BHU VC

The new VC has not taken charge yet. He visited university, went to temple, but didn't take charge. Rector Shukla is still in charge. The reference you gave, it too didn't say anything about taking charge. Also, Rector Shukla's name has been linked to the wiki page of a politician. If you'll please correct this. @Muhandes: One must reply, and ask to what does one owe an explanation? One must also ask what exactly is being attributed as 'promotional material', and if that is cleared it would easy for one to answer. One doesn't mind at all, since one assumes good faith, and expects all to. I apologize if I sounded harsh and condensending, let me try again. You are here for four years and seem to know your way around so I thought there is no need to treat you like a newcomer. Instead of slapping a {{COI}} and a {{Third-party}} on the page and a {{Uw-coi}} warning on your talk page, I am pointing you attention to the fact that if you have a relationship with BHU you are required to disclose it, even if it is not paid contribution. I always assume good faith, which is why I am asking politely instead of going directly to WP:ANI. No matter if you have such a relation or not, I will continue to assume good faith on your part. As for the material itself, perhaps "promotion" is a strong word, but since this is en encyclopedia and not a brochure, we are much less interested in primarily sourced material, and most of you edits (e.g., here and here but frankly all of it) is primarily sourced. I removed some material which was stricly against policy or consensus, but I am not really interested in editing this page extensively so I will leave that to you. Happy editing. @Muhandes: Thanks for clearing. I'd have loved to answer about 4 years part, being active and inactive, but let's save that for my UserPage's History section, I'll ping you when I update that. Indeed, I am from Varanasi; and aim to only edit about subjects I know. BHU has a special print on modern India's history, and its independence; it has a rich legacy, which includes being probably the only university in India of such scale which was actually crowdfunded from beggars to rulers. It is in light of these and other facts that I keep working on this article in order to improve to, to upscale it on ranking parameters of Wikipedia. I have seen your retractions, and while I welcome them on policy grounds I don't want you to leave this editing article and look forward to working with you to improve one article, with consensus and WP policy insights. Misuse of minor edits checkbox

Hi User4edits! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Varanasi‎ that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia – it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. It's concerning that you used the right less than a dozen times in that trial, to be honest. I have not reviewed them, but go read Wikipedia:Vandalism again. Neither of those edits were vandalism. One was a sourced edit, that the creeper was originally meant to be a pig. The other I'm not an expert on the subject matter, but by all appearances it was not blatant bad faith vandalism. This is an important distinction. There are many reasons to revert something that ISN'T vandalism, and labelling such as vandalism is disruptive on it's own. Hello, I would like to know what part of the sourcing guidelines you think the sources already included are failing. I understand that the first two sources are not independent/secondary to the subject, but it doesn't make sense to not include them as they are used to outline the goals of the study and what is to be reviewed and are a useful reference to confirm that what the article says is the stated intent. The other two sources should be sufficient to prove the notability of the subject, but if not, I had already attached further sources for article expansion in the future on the talk page, but I didn't want to waste the reviewer's time by including additional sources that all say the same thing. Should I include some of these other sources despite not saying more?

1) First of all the issue mainly concerns of events in Bangladesh. I also only gave tags of Bangladesh in it. Why are Indian editors deciding whether an article concerning Bangladesh is notable or not instead of Bangladeshi editors?

2) You mentioned "Similar and much bigger instances of such protests (from Nepal, Maldives) have been moved/merged to respective country-India relations". You contradicted yourself because Wikipedia has a separate article on the current crisis in Maldives-India relations, see 2024 India–Maldives diplomatic row.

3) The article on this topic exists already on Bengali Wikipedia already. Here it is. It is a pretty big thing in the country right now. Do you suggest to instead translate the Bengali page?

I also replied to you in my talk page but you didn't bother to check it. Why are you, an Indian editor, deciding whether issues concerning Bangladesh are notable or not? The one you showed for Maldives shows the Civil society perception. That has nothing to do with the movement in general. It doesn't have any mention of it either. Completely different topic.

I'm just showing that the event is notable. You constantly keep claiming that it's not while editors in the Bengali Wikipedia says otherwise. The article there is a bit different because it also includes the information about the movement in Maldives too

The article also meets the inclusion criteria

1. It will have a lasting effect because the whole opposition in Bangladesh together with the civilians who support them are creating an effect already and have plummeted sales of Indian products. This will have an effect on trade and relations of the country in the future. All the references are in my draft. Read it if you don't believe me.
2. It also received fairly good coverage on both local and international media. The movement is mostly a social media movement. You would see hashtags of the movement have been trending on social media since January as I proved in my article.

I think the article creator should be encouraged to improve the article with better sourcing instead of deleting the draft. I have addressed your previous comments by adding several more sources about Mehta from other highly reputed science publications, Wired and Quanta magazines. You have requested that I not move the article myself if the article is in AfC, but the article is no longer in the AfC process. Could you please explain further why you have reverted this article?

If you again take issue with the quality or nature of the sources referenced, I would like to emphasize that in the comments on the draft page, it says:

meet any of the eight academic-specific criteria OR cite multiple reliable, secondary sources independent of the subject, which cover the subject in some depth

Make sure your draft meets ONE of the criteria above before resubmitting”

Mehta's page certainly meets criterion 3 of WP:NACADEMIC, so fulfilling the latter is

not strictly necessary; although, I would argue it is met. This is because Mehta has been elected a Fellow of the American Physical Society. The equivalence of being elected an APS Fellow and establishing notability has been agreed upon elsewhere, including on the talk page for APS Fellows. I would appreciate if you would more fully and specifically justify your actions and undo your reversion. I am not aware of any policy that prevents me from creating a page by moving, even if it has previously been in AfC. I am a confirmed user and have already created multiple pages through AfC. If you doubt the page I have created satisfies the criteria for being a Wikipedia page, a more appropriate process might be WP:PROD, not reversion of creation without discussion.

Thank you for your response. I am not aware of a policy that prohibits creating an article myself even if I have previously submitted the draft to AfC. If such a policy exists, I would greatly appreciate a link. Autoconfirmed users who have already created a page through AfC are not required to go through AfC again (see Wikipedia:Drafts#Publishing a draft). A relevant page and policy might be WP:DRAFTIFY which specifies that draftification should not be used as a proxy for deletion and one of the reasons outlined on that policy page must be specified when draftifying. On that policy page, it additionally states that draftification should not be used during new page review if “the topic is plausibly notable”. I would additionally review WP:DRAFTOBJECT.

As a gesture of good faith, I have resubmitted the page to AfC, and I would appreciate if you evaluate whether C3 of WP:NPROF is satisfied yourself as you previously rejected and then draftified the page, justified by it allegedly not meeting one sufficient but not necessary criterion. Again, if you know an academic, please ask that person what these numbers mean and you will find out that these numbers mean that Sandip Sinharay had a significant impact in his scholarly discipline. Criterion number 2 is that "The person has received a highly prestigious academic award or honor at a national or international level." and I provided links to prove that Sandip Sinharay received multiple awards from a well-recognized organization (National Council on Measurement in Education) in his field. Criterion number 6 is that the person has held a highest-level elected or appointed administrative post at a major academic institution or major academic society and Sandip Sinharay is a Distinguished Presidential Appointee at Educational Testing Service that is known all over the world. Thus, I request you to reconsider your decision after doing a little more homework on your part. h-index of 38 and i10-index of 113 may be very impressive for you, but that is not. I am somewhat of an academician myself, and I know that there are far more people with far better indices, and they are not on Wikipedia, and that is fine. Further your other points are answered below:

They should be approached with caution because their validity is not, at present, completely accepted, and they may depend substantially on the citation database used. They are also discipline-dependent; some disciplines have higher average citation rates than others.
• For the purposes of Criterion 2, major academic awards, such as the Nobel Prize, MacArthur Fellowship, the Fields Medal, the Bancroft Prize, the Pulitzer Prize for History, etc., always qualify under Criterion 2. Some less significant academic honors and awards that confer a high level of academic prestige can also be used to satisfy Criterion 2. Examples may include certain awards, honors and prizes of notable academic societies, of notable foundations and trusts (e.g., the Guggenheim Fellowship, Linguapax Prize), etc. Significant academic awards and honors can also be used to partially satisfy Criterion 1 (see item 4 above in this section).

For C6, you said Sinharay is a Distinguished Presidential Appointee at Educational Testing Service. ETS is a private company, not an academic institution, and does not arise the question of a major academic institution or major academic society.

I see your points about criteria 1 and 2. It is true that Sandip Sinharay will never win anything like the Nobel prize. However, you avoided commenting on my first comment--what about criterion 8? Sandip Sinharay is the editor-in-chief of a major journal in his field (Psychometrika) and has been the editor of two other major journals in his field. These facts seem to qualify his biography for Wikipedia. Or please explain how they do not. I removed the mention of ORCID from his bio. To a question from you, I am an early-career researcher and receive occasional advice from Sandip--so I have no conflict-of-interest about this matter and I just wrote some plain facts about his career in the bio---there is no promotion, selling etc. And he is not paying me. But interestingly, I was chatting with him after your decline and he said that he received an email from some Laura Walters who offered him to rewrite and include his bio in Wikipedia for $380.
