Welcome!

Hello, Allen4names, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on discussion pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{helpme}} before the question. Again, welcome! (You seemed to be doing well even before you registered, but I welcome you with that message because it's good to check those pages once in a while and there's always something new to learn. Redirecting vs. contesting

I merely redirected the article to a better target. Nothing about that should imply that I contested the prod. If anything, what I did was to "speedy redirect" the page as a plausible search typo. youngamerican (wtf?) 16:36, 23 September 2009 (UTC)

I think it used to say something about redirects. Oh well, you'll find that things change around here when one isn't paying attention. :) youngamerican (wtf?) 16:57, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
I've chimed in over at the prod talk page. I still think I'm acting within the spirit of "prod," but I'm always open to community consensus. BTW, many Wikipedians prefer to keep their discussions on Wikipedia rather than email in the name of transparency. youngamerican (wtf?) 23:38, 23 September 2009 (UTC)

For tackling the complicated topic of prod, I've awarded you a barnstar. Check your user page. Congrats. youngamerican (wtf?) 00:12, 24 September 2009 (UTC)

Thank you

I advise you to report the user to Wikipedia:Administrator_intervention_against_vandalism--Dwayneflanders 22:45, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

(edit conflict, another response)

The best thing to do is to warn the user, with an appropriate template - see WP:WARN. If the user has already been warned several times, then it might be appropriate to report the problem on the administrators' noticeboard.
In this specific case, however, no further action is required - the user has now been blocked, as it was a 'vandalism-only' account.  Chzz  ►  22:45, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

Rollback

Hello Allen4names,

I have granted rollback rights to your account; the reason for this is that after a review of some of your contributions, I believe you can be trusted to use rollback correctly, and for its intended usage of reverting vandalism, and that you will not abuse it by reverting good-faith edits or to revert-war. For information on rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature. If you do not want rollback, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Good luck and thanks. Acalamari 16:42, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

Thank you. -- allennames 16:52, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

You seem to have jumped the gun on reverting my link, since the AFRS was written and maintained at Natick Labs for decades. Also, I've been a WP user since 2004; please don't dump boilerplate on my talk page when a simple "are you sure about this?" would suffice. Haikupoet (talk) 17:22, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

I guess I did jump the gun. I did not, however, see anything in the edit summary to indicate that this was a legitimate edit. Please remember to leave an edit summary especially if your edit is questionable. -- allennames 17:27, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

Motley Crue

Please be careful on what you revert. Because firstly, it's a greatest hits album which should belong to the discography page. The main page is studio albums exclusive only.

And finally, even if it's allowed, it is very inappropriate to feature a non-linked album in the discography section.--猛禽22 04:20, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

You did not move it and I do not see it on the discography page. I will give you some time to edit Mötley Crüe discography or show why the text should be deleted. -- allennames 04:25, 1 November 2009 (UTC)
I've confirmed it's a legitimate album. I'll add it unlinked per MOS:DISCOG in the discography, but If it gets reverted, I'm not doing anything about it.--猛禽22 04:34, 1 November 2009 (UTC)
That will be acceptable. I thought you where simply trying to remove a red-link. That is why I reverted your edit. Thank you for your time. -- allennames 04:39, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

Luxair

Hmm, when I enter {{subst:uw-editsummary|Luxair Flight 9642}} just like that, it displays normally. Is this what you are referring to? WhisperToMe (talk) 04:55, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

Re Godannar

Note - The first message was posted here on the talk page of EyeSerene. -- allennames 19:08, 8 November 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for reverting that. If you notice clearly inappropriate edits such as that one, you can also leave the editor a warning on their talkpage. We have a standard hierarchy of warning templates you can use at WP:WARN; normally we assume good faith on their first infraction and call it an editing test, then if there are further infractions the warnings escalate (perhaps skipping levels in particularly egregious cases). If the editor has already received a level 4 warning and vandalises again, feel free to report them to WP:AIV (this is for obvious vandalism, so content disputes/POV edits shouldn't be reported here). Sometimes a personal message can be more helpful than slapping a templated warning (read WP:DTTR), but that's up to your judgement. Thanks again :) EyeSerenetalk 09:08, 26 September 2009 (UTC)

Dead links

re https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/w/index.php?title=Neon_Genesis_Evangelion_(anime)&diff=next&oldid=324410380

Obviously it did exist at one point, and a quick Google would've shown you mirrors like http://neon-genesis-evangelion.moviechronicles.com/2006-05/new-weta-workshop-concept-art/ or http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=16790

And even if you had missed that, it is guideline (Wikipedia:Linkrot#Repairing a dead link) that you are supposed to check the Internet Archive or WebCite, which would have given you http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.wetaworkshop.co.nz/projects/filmography/film/neon_genesis or http://www.webcitation.org/5PSTPs1cI --Gwern (contribs) 20:25 14 November 2009 (GMT)

re Neon Genesis Evangelion (anime) - (diff)
Any potential notability the live action movie referred to in that link had is gone. BTW - The Wayback Machine is down for maintenance. -- allennames 01:43, 15 November 2009 (UTC)
WP:MOVIE only speaks about articles proper, not sections or paragraphs. Until it is officially dead (almost guaranteed at this point, yes, but we don't know for sure), it retains all the notability it had before. And even if canceled, it arguably merits mention as part of the Eva film history. A failed attempt (like invading Russia) is still of interest, after all.
None of which has anything to do with your sloppy dead-link handling. Please be more careful in the future. --Gwern (contribs) 03:36 15 November 2009 (GMT)
True, it retains all the notability it had. NONE! As for your comment about my dead-link handling I will continue to remove dead links that I believe have no use as references. -- allennames 04:34, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

De-prod of The A-Team (film)

I have removed the {{prod}} tag from The A-Team (film), which you proposed for deletion. I'm leaving this message here to notify you about it. If you still think the article should be deleted, please don't add the {{prod}} template back to the article. Instead, feel free to list it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Thanks! KV5 (TalkPhils) 02:13, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

I will think it over. That article was started far too early. -- allennames 04:23, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
The AFD has been snowballed, but you do have the option to appeal it if you feel it was not listed long enough, or had enough participants. And you'd probably have a point with that, though the outcome would most likely still be keep (my opinion, of course). I guess we both had some frayed nerves here, but that's OK if we don't let it get any further. It is just a movie. - BilCat (talk) 03:20, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
I still believe that The A-Team (film) is a "run of the mill production" but I will leave you to edit that article in peace. -- allennames 03:26, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

Copyvio links

This is a courtesy note that I have removed a link on Talk:Heart no Kuni no Alice to a website that list and links to manga scanlations and/or scanlation groups. Scanlations are an infringement of the creator's copyright, and per WP:COPYLINK, we cannot link to websites containing such materials. —Farix (t | c) 21:20, 27 November 2009 (UTC)

Stardates

Hello... apologies, but it took a while to get back to you. I did some checking around and, according to one of the senior production staff, the new movie apparently uses a modified version of the original stardate system. Stardates are apparently still four digit numbers, but the four digits now represent the calendar year, while the additional digits behind the decimal point represent the day of the year (based on Earth's calendar). So, the Kelvin's captain did say those numbers (per the movie), but the date would be "23xx.04", not "23xx04". I had the article interview out a few days back, but then closed that window without bookmarking it. I'll try to find it for you. Cheers. --Ckatzchatspy 09:52, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

I am not going to look it up now but I think the article "Stardate" mentioned Captian Robau(?) omitting a decimal point in his reply. Anyway thank you for getting back to me. -- allennames 18:12, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Can you show me any other anime article that has music in it as a list? None that are well written, that info is in each season list and in prose, not in bullet list. Please know wiki rules before editing. Gambler (talk) 12:41, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

I see what you did now. There are six leads that will need to be rewritten. -- allennames 15:18, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

I stubified the article per the RfD discussion (I closed it as a withdrawal, is that okay?). But the problem is...and this is going to sound ridiculously idiotic...I can't for the life of me figure out how to present the information, or even what the information is. Is he an anime artist, and author, a screenplay writer? All of those? I am seriously terrible at article writing. I've added the refs as (temporary) external links, but they're really just establishing some notability so it won't get PRODded. If there's anything you could do to help it, that would, well, help. But if there's not, that's fine too. Thanks anyway... Lord Spongefrog, (I am Czar of all Russias!) 16:03, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

I have added an inter-wiki link and there are Newtype USA articles that may be of use. (User:Allen4names/Newtype USA) Hopefully these are of some use to you. If you need a reference from my Newtype USA collection let me know. -- allennames 16:19, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
Ah, that's okay then. I thought I might have made some horrible glaring error in the stub, but apparently not. Wait. Have I? No, surely not, you would have told me or fixed it. Well, thansks, Lord Spongefrog, (I am Czar of all Russias!) 17:38, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

Re: cites

Please try to use the citation templates found at WP:CT when adding in cites.-- 00:11, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

What I think of the {{Cite journal}} template is not fit to print. – allennames 06:36, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
I'm not really sure what you mean.-- 07:30, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
I do not want to be foul mouthed on the talk pages. Because of your recent edit I must now consider using the "#time" (example: {{#time:F j, Y}}) Parser Function. I would have thought you would remember that Newtype USA was published monthly even after you missed the period (.) in the references I left. – allennames 19:40, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
If you had simply used the template, there would have been no misunderstanding.-- 02:00, 13 March 2010 (UTC)
No misunderstanding you say? Okay. This reference is from a 35mm microfilm roll and I do not think it is available from Google New Archive Search yet. See how {{Cite news}} formats it.
{{cite news |title=Tri-City voters approve mass transit system 2-1 |first=Bob |last=Woehler |newspaper=Tri-City Herald |location=Kennewick, WA |date=May 20, 1981 |page=Front page }} → Woehler, Bob (May 20, 1981). "Tri-City voters approve mass transit system 2-1". Tri-City Herald. Kennewick, WA. p. Front page.
Is the date when Mr. Woehler was born? I think you know the answer but a newbie may not. I now consider the use of such templates to be contrary to WP:BITE guideline. – allennames 16:17, 13 March 2010 (UTC)
WP:BITE? You do realize that the references that you add in are formatted the exact same way after I use the template, right? See your edit version and mine. The only difference is that you merely don't use the template. While you may be right that some people might misunderstand, as I did earlier (though it was a simple enough mistake), it's still general convention to use the templates so all the cites have a consistent style. If you don't want to take the time to use them, then fine. I'm not asking you to change your ways; I was merely suggesting you follow convention.-- 19:50, 13 March 2010 (UTC)
I am going to try again. What follows is a reference to a review by Chris Johnston.
Johnston, Chris. "My Santa". Newtype USA. 6 (12) 103. December 2007. ISSN 1541-4817.
Johnston, Chris (December 2007). "My Santa". Newtype USA. 6 (12): 103. ISSN 1541-4817.
Now I will tear into what {{Cite journal}} did to the reference. Johnston, Chris born December 2007? No, but some may think so. The article and publication titles are correct. Volume, issue, and page numbers may be a problem. (I have the same problem.) ISSN is okay. When was this published? Oh yes, December 2007. Confusion and misunderstanding indeed. – allennames 03:09, 14 March 2010 (UTC)
I still don't see why you would jump to the conclusion that someone would misconstrue that date as the author's birth date; why would anyone think that would be relevant information in a reference?-- 19:24, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
One word. Context. Where the date is put determines what context the date is used in. If the date is placed with the authors name it can be misunderstood to be a date or birth. It is better not to cause people to ask "What is a birth date doing in a reference?" – allennames 18:33, 17 March 2010 (UTC)

.hack//Roots references

just letting you know, if you want to add references, you have to add it in the end of s entence, don't put the reference on the reference section right away. you place the ref tags (<ref_>[insert reference here]</_ref>)like this, but without the underscores on the tags. then you place <refernces_/> in the reference section (again without the underscores). so whenever you place a ref on a specific spot, the reference list automatically updates.Bread Ninja (talk) 15:53, 22 March 2010 (UTC)

You are wrong on at least two counts. One: Some styles of citation allow or even require you to place the references in the reference section. Two: The Cite extension used on Wikipedia allows you to place named references within the references tags if you use the references inline. (See example wiki-text below.)
Text that may be disputed.<ref name="book-cite-1" />

==References==
<references>
<ref name="book-cite-1">A reference found in a book.</ref>
</references>
Earlier versions of Cite may not allow you to do this but the one we use does. – allennames 01:58, 23 March 2010 (UTC)

Odd csd criterion applied to an article

Hi Allen4names, on Fight Fire With Fire this morning you asked that the article be deleted because it is a foreign language article that exists on another project here. I assume this was a mistake, since the article was in English. Syrthiss (talk) 13:53, 6 April 2010 (UTC)

I think it is a flaw in Huggle that I will have to keep in mind. I think I was looking at this diff when I added the tag. It looked like a dictionary definition. You may also note that the edit summary does not match the edit. I hope this clears things up. – allennames 00:41, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

Reverts

Please watch your reverts, on Dania_(latin) the user who blanked the page was the only editor and creator, so blanking the page is fine and not vandalism. Q T C 00:35, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

The creator and only content-editor of this page blanked it, which you then undid and warned him about page-blanking--this is the same issue you were warned about yesterday. Any objection to letting the blanking stand as a request for speedy-deletion as a blank page? Alternately, the content appears to be a fork of other pages the editor is working on (and embedding this same content), so it should technically become a redirect, but the name is nonstandard, so any objection to sending it to speedy-deletion as a recently-created nonstandard redirect? DMacks (talk) 20:56, 11 April 2010 (UTC)

I've updated the link for the release dates. Adding a second reference to NewType really isn't necessary for that (over referencing). If the NewType issue has some other information, such as a review or the like, that would be a great addition to the article. However, if you want to add that information, please follow guidelines and respect the existing citation style of the article, rather than trying to add in a new one as you did here[1], per guidelines "Once a style is selected for an article it is inappropriate to change to another, unless there is a reason that goes beyond mere choice of style". -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 16:42, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

Sorry for the delay. I am not going to answer everything now but the article in Newtype USA mentions Cartoon Network's Adult Swim programming block, the date of release (March 4) and the prices ($24.98 / $119.95) for volume 1 and the box set of DVDs, and the lead character Saya Otonashi. The other Blood+ article in this issue is "The Official Art of BLOOD+" p. 133–139. There are some problems including missing last names. I may not be able to reply until as late as Monday next week so feel free to take your time. – allennames 13:15, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
Ah, I wondered what you meant about the prices being irrelevant (and correct). The release date isn't really an issue, however the phrase "Cartoon Network's Adult Swim" has been contentious, so I reformatted the ref into the article's current style and moved it there :-). Also would love to know what the Art article has. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 13:57, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
First a mea culpa. The Cartoon Network is NOT mentioned in either article. I did not think it was not general knowledge. The second article has staff in small print character name and seiyu as well as comments from the staff. Another problem I found is about the spelling of Vin [sic] Argiano's name. He is voiced by Junichi Suwabe. Hopefully I will be able to straiten things out next week. – allennames 14:17, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
Ah, okay. No worries, we have three sources on that. To me it is "general knowledge" but one editor kept repeatedly objecting to it and changing the article that we had to stack three sources on that phrase just to make her stop. When you get a chance, I noticed in your NewType listing that you also have another issue which has a multi-page spread on Blood+ and would love to know if it has any useful information, like production details or critical commentary :-)-- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 14:22, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
I need to get other things done so I made a list.

Wait

Have patience, if removed them, it wasn't because i wasn't going to fix it later.Bread Ninja (talk) 17:38, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

We don't need broken section links. The {{Anchor}}s were probably put there because the section headers were/are being changed frequently. This is not something to be fixed later so check for inbound section links first. – allennames 17:45, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
i sense hostility or double meaning in your words. Well anyways, they are being fixed now, which is odd, they haven't been edited frequently.Bread Ninja (talk) 17:48, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
Okay. You may want to check to see if WildBot has edited the talk pages of articles that are linked to Evangelion (mecha). If not you can add {{User:WildBot/tag}} to the talk page so that WildBot can check for broken section links. – allennames 17:57, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
