Arbitration

  • A motion has standardised the 500/30 (extended confirmed) restrictions placed by the Arbitration Committee. The standardised restriction is now listed in the Arbitration Committee's procedures.
  • Following the closure of the Iranian politics case, standard discretionary sanctions are authorized for all edits about, and all pages related to, post-1978 Iranian politics, broadly construed.
  • The Arbitration Committee encourages uninvolved administrators to use the discretionary sanctions procedure in topic areas where it is authorised to facilitate consensus in RfCs. This includes, but is not limited to, enforcing sectioned comments, word/diff limits and moratoriums on a particular topic from being brought in an RfC for up to a year.

Miscellaneous

  • Editors have approved expanding the trial of Growth Features from 2% of new accounts to 25%, and the share of newcomers getting mentorship from 2% to 5%. Experienced editors are invited to add themselves to the mentor list.
  • The community consultation phase of the 2021 CheckUser and Oversight appointments process is open for editors to provide comments and ask questions to candidates.

Centering tags

I just happened to be browsing Wikipedia:Ribbons when I noticed that you replace the <center> tags with <div> tags. I've not come to object to the change, but your obs tag edit summary caught me by surprise. Is this true, that <center> tags are obsolete? Where can I read more about this development? — CJDOS, Sheridan, OR (talk) 06:15, 11 October 2021 (UTC)

@CJDOS: Hello. The help page is on mediawiki and local obsolete HTML tags can be found at Special:LintErrors/obsolete-tag. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 06:18, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for the helpful reply. I have read the links you've provided, and will have to check my pages tomorrow for some of these obsolete tags. Why is the Special:LintErrors/obsolete-tag page not in alphabetical order? I filtered the results by User page, but it would make it easier to check for any other obsolete tags I may be using if I knew about where my user name should alphabetically appear in the list. — CJDOS, Sheridan, OR (talk) 06:35, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
@CJDOS: Special:LintErrors/obsolete-tag is sorted according to the last edit date. To check for the lint errors on a particular page, you can use Special:PageInfo. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 06:40, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
So, if I don't see any errors being mentioned in the Page information link on the right, then I'm good? I mean, I should replace obsolete tags, but if they're present, they're not throwing errors. — CJDOS, Sheridan, OR (talk) 06:46, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
@CJDOS: Yes, no errors = ok. As of now, they're not giving any big issues and since this is a large wiki, any broken template will most likely be noticed by someone and they can fix it accordingly. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 06:48, 11 October 2021 (UTC)

Tagging pages for speedy deletion

Hello, Minorax,

I'm not sure about other admins patrolling CSD categories but, for me, it's always best to stick with approved CSD criteria rather than writing in your own rationales. I'm not even sure how to verify "cross-wiki spam" or how you know about what is occurring on other Wikipedia projects. Thanks for your work. Liz Read! Talk! 01:54, 28 October 2021 (UTC)

@Liz: Hello. As there is no option to add in a comment when tagging a page under the preset criteria, I chose to have a custom rationale indicating which CSD criteria it fulfills and proceed to add in additional comments. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 01:59, 28 October 2021 (UTC)

Hello! Voting in the 2021 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 6 December 2021. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. Page mover granted

Hello, Minorax. Your account has been granted the "extendedmover" user right, either following a request for it or demonstrating familiarity with working with article names and moving pages. You are now able to rename pages without leaving behind a redirect, move subpages when moving the parent page(s), and move category pages.

Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Page mover for more information on this user right, especially the criteria for moving pages without leaving a redirect. Please remember to follow post-move cleanup procedures and make link corrections where necessary, including broken double-redirects when suppressredirect is used. This can be done using Special:WhatLinksHere. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password. As with all user rights, be aware that if abused, or used in controversial ways without consensus, your page mover status can be revoked.

Useful links:

If you do not want the page mover right anymore, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Thank you, and happy editing! Cabayi (talk) 12:52, 16 January 2022 (UTC)

Removing pd-ineligble-usonly

Hi, would you mind explaining why you made this edit with no explanation, despite me explaining why the file can't be copied to Commons? As this is a British logo, font choice is copyrightable, so there is a reason I tagged it with pd-inelegible-usonly. — Berrely • TalkContribs 20:00, 21 January 2022 (UTC)

@Berrely: Hello. I believe that the logo is simple enough to be ineligible for copyright protection. As per this, "minimum threshold of originality seems to depend on the type of work, and a clear distinction between quantitative and qualitative labour that has to go into the work to turn it original cannot be made out". IMO the font used is a generic enough to not be copyrighted. If one were to argue that the font used is copyrightable, files such as c:File:NSPCC official logo.svg or anything in c:Category:Logos of the United Kingdom would need to go. However, this is just my POV and comments are welcome. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 00:11, 22 January 2022 (UTC)
Meh, I guess you're right. Frutiger is so generic at this point that it probably isn't creative enough. I've reverted my <nowiki> edit. Thanks for your file work and have a good day :) — Berrely • TalkContribs 07:24, 22 January 2022 (UTC)

Article deletion discussion

Hello my name is Satish and I have written an article and the name of the article is siddhant Ghegadmal (Actor) I have put many references in that article but wikipedia editor repeatedly puts templates to remove that article lest that article Do not be removed, I made this article with great effort, please make this article better and not delete it 2409:4042:D08:F051:5CBA:5D05:A6D4:BD07 (talk) 09:06, 27 January 2022 (UTC)

Instead of repeatedly removing the AfD template despite being told not, you could've participated in the discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Siddhant Ghegadmal (Actor) and the article might have a slim chance of being kept. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 09:09, 27 January 2022 (UTC)

Thank you!

Hello, Minorax,

I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to PROD all of these unused, personal photos, most for over a decade old. They will never be used in articles and are unneeded. There must be some gigantic category containing all of these self-published photos so thank you for going through and tagging the most obviously unnecessary ones. Liz Read! Talk! 01:37, 10 February 2022 (UTC)

@Liz: Glad to help to clear Category:Copy to Wikimedia Commons (bot-assessed). :) --Minorax«¦talk¦» 01:46, 10 February 2022 (UTC)
What is especially helpful when you do this is that you spread your file taggings over the 24 hour clock...or at least the hours when you're working on Wikipedia! Sometimes, when editors get the urge to PROD a lot of pages, they can tag dozens of pages over a ten minute or hour long period. Since the patrolling admin has to examine each page to make sure it is eligible to be PROD'd and hasn't been part of a deletion discussion before, this can be burdensome. But you spread your file taggings over a few hours or even at different times during the day and night which makes the situation much easier for the small group of admins who look over the PROD lists & categories. Thank you for pacing your taggings out over hours instead of doing them all over a very short period of time. Liz Read! Talk! 19:20, 12 February 2022 (UTC)
@Minorax: Happy for you to delete the picture you mentioned. It was added when served as Chairman of the Investment Analysts Society over a decade ago. No longer involved there, so happy for you to delete it.Garrethe

Hi Minorax, I have now noted, concerning the Chris Stedman image at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Chris_Stedman,_at_First_Unitarian_Society_of_Minneapolis,_Oct_2011.jpg, that I have now released this image (which is my own unpublished creation) freely into the public domain.
