I removed the BLPProd from the article as references were provided. A BLPProd requires that no references be in the article. Bgwhite (talk) 06:48, 29 June 2012 (UTC)

I really wish there would be some kind of consensus as to whether any kind of external link rules out a BLPPROD, or only reliable sources (sigh). Well, It's now up as a PROD, so I'm hoping that that takes care of the article. DoriTalkContribs 06:42, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
I agree. Last summers back and forth changing of the rule didn't help. Personally, I think a reliable reference is required... No reliable reference and a BLPProd is in order. Bgwhite (talk) 07:58, 30 June 2012 (UTC)

Hello Dori,

As you may have probably realised by my article, I'm new. I was wondering if you'd like to perfectionise it? I don't know who else I should ask for this. If so, thank you! x — Preceding unsigned comment added by SeeminglySubdued (talkcontribs) 08:25, 30 June 2012 (UTC)

There's not a lot at Orienbank I can help with, sorry to say. The article has no verifiable and reliable independent third party sources with significant coverage, which is what it needs to have in order to stick around. DoriTalkContribs 08:58, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
Hello Dori,
I was wondering what you meant with reliable sources. The sources are copied directly from their website, so I'm not certain by what you mean with that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SeeminglySubdued (talkcontribs) 09:36, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
If you follow the links in my last sentence (there are six of them), you should get a pretty good idea of what Wikipedia means by reliable sources. Here's a tip: a subject's own web site is never a reliable source for notability, or sufficient as a sole source. DoriTalkContribs 09:41, 30 June 2012 (UTC)

Not surprisingly, your PROD of Manit Dani was removed without explanation by an IP (as well as the maintenance tags again). I have restored the tags, and nominated the article for AfD, as I agree with the reasons for your proposed deletion. Singularity42 (talk) 10:26, 30 June 2012 (UTC)

Revisions to try to resolve tagged criticisms of "Decision-making software" article

Dear DoriSmith, I have tried to resolve the 3 tagged criticism at the top of this article by: adding citations to reliable sources (thereby resolving the 1st and 2nd issues); and re-writing some of the embedded lists in prose and expanding on the article’s main points (thereby resolving the 3rd issue). I explained this in the article's talk section and invited discussion. I am not sure of the protocols here, but I wondered if you would perhaps 'referee' these intended improvements and adjudicate as to whether the criticisms have been resolved (if so, can you please remove the tags?). If this is not the way this is handled, would you please advise me what is the proper next step. Very best wishes. Paul Hansen Paulwizard (talk) 12:54, 2 July 2012 (UTC)

Hello. Just to let you know I was uncomfortable deleting Ip law leaders as a speedy because of the amount of references. It might be an AFD candidate, however... The JPStalk to me 13:08, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

At the time I speedy'd the article, few or none of those refs were there—so, fair enough. DoriTalkContribs 21:37, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

Please stop changing the text of the page, and why put a code with "no references" when YOU deleted them all? And the page was made like some of the pages on Wikipedia, as the same model/type, so why changing it? --Julie Arnaud (talk) 21:30, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

Removed 3 instances of identical text written four times
I'm changing it because it doesn't meet Wikipedia's standards without those changes. As to why I removed the references, I clearly stated my reasons in my edit summary, as required.

I recommend that you either find verifiable and reliable independent third party sources with significant coverage, or request that the article be deleted. Of course, that's assuming that you aren't affiliated with the band; if you are, you shouldn't be touching the article at all (per WP:COI). DoriTalkContribs 21:34, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

How an official website of the band can't be a verifiable/reliable source? I can't do better... How can I find better sources? Who's better to talk about the band on internet than the band himself?
And no I'm not affiliated with the band.
And why did you delete all the External Links?
--Julie Arnaud (talk) 21:55, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
This is all per Wikipedia policy, which is why I keep pointing you to Wikipedia policy pages.
  • How an official website of the band can't be a verifiable/reliable source? See WP:Self-published sources
  • why did you delete all the External Links? See WP:ELOFFICIAL.
  • As to why I think you might be affiliated with the band: it's because your account was created by User:OfficialFrenchSupportBlowsight?
I know you're new to Wikipedia (or at least the English Wikipedia). I've just added a number of links to your talk page, which may give you some useful places to start learning about how things are done here. DoriTalkContribs 22:15, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
"Official websites may be included in some infoboxes, and by convention are listed first in the External links section." This is what I did. For the other links okay it's not possible to let them, it's okay I can understand but the official website of the band needs to be in the external link. (it's ok that it's not a reference, just let it as an external link)
and for the references I will see and try how to make it better in the future. --Julie Arnaud (talk) 22:25, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
Personally, I don't see a point in having an EL section if all it does is duplicate the sole link in the infobox. As to additions to the article, please, please, please read WP:Best practices for editors with conflicts of interest first. DoriTalkContribs 22:31, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
Okay, but I see some pages with the link in the infobox plus the link in the external links, I prefer to be sure. It's ok so, I won't put external links.
And I'm just a French fan of the band I'm not affiliate with the band, I just want them to be a part of Wikipedia and if people want to learn more about them they can read the article. And I didn't write something with my point of view, all was about what they did nothing more.
--Julie Arnaud (talk) 22:37, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
I don't see how you can simultaneously be just a French fan of the band and the Official French Support of Blowsight. But apparently someone else also thought that the band showed insufficient notability, as the article has now been deleted. DoriTalkContribs 21:57, 5 July 2012 (UTC)

Regarding your helpme request response

Hi Dori! I came upon your response to a helpme request at User talk:RobertNesbit#Help request, where you gave WP:Peer review as a viable option for the user to seek initial review of his stub. Peer review is for high-quality articles that have already undergone extensive work, often as a way of preparing an article to become a featured article candidate. I didn't want to simply post there that the advice you gave was incorrect and that if he followed it, and posted to WP:PR, it would be rejected out of hand (as it would be), but at the same time I feel some duty to not leave that advice for a beginning user in place. So I came here hoping that by informing you of the issue you'd go make a change to your post. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 05:25, 5 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi, I wanted to let you know that I challenged your WP:CSD A7 on Sarvesh Tripathi 'Kavya'. In my opinion, being nominated for notable awards such as Saraswati Samman and Vyas Samman is a claim of importance sufficient to survive criteria A7. Without more, it doesn't establish notability, but the question of notability should be establish via either WP:PROD or WP:AFD. I have no objection if you would like to pursue either of those options on the article. Monty845 23:25, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

Just a quibble: Pulitzer Prizes and Pushcart Prizes are also notable, but being nominated for either is not. I don't see anything in either article about what it takes to be nominated, so I'll assume they're similar. End result: unremarkable person, i.e., {{db-a7}}—but I'll prod it instead, I guess. I did tag it to be deleted for copyvio, and then you removed it the CSD. I'm pretty hardcore about copyright violations, so I manually removed all the copyrighted info. Removal of Malcolm Mejin

Hello, I am the page maintenance person for the Wikipedia entry Malcolm Mejin. There is a proposal to remove the page, even though it is substantiated with references and links and some verifiable sources, with NST (a reputable online newspaper) as a back-up. Are you affiliated with Malcolm Mejin? If so, I strongly recommend that you read User:DoriSmith/onCOI. Best practices on WP say that you shouldn't edit the page at all if you have a COI. And whether you have a COI or not, you shouldn't remove maintenance templates without even trying to fix the underlying issues. Please stop vandalizing the article. Drowning Link

Why did you remove the external link to Dr. James Lowson's description in the 1892 Edinburgh Medical Journal of his personal experience drowning? Why you consider that a conflict of interest? I don't treat people and there is no advertising on the site.

As a medical doctor who experienced first hand the effects of drowning, I think his perspective is valuable and of aid to both the people who experience drowning first hand and those who treat them.

Also as a fairly new contributor to Wikipedia perhaps you can guide me.

Proposed deletion of List of serving utensils

The article List of serving utensils has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not really needed on Wikipedia

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Mdann52 (talk) 16:27, 15 July 2012 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of List of serving utensils

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on List of serving utensils requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Mdann52 (talk) 10:10, 16 July 2012 (UTC)

Proposed Deletion of Constantine Callas

Hey DoriSmith --

The article in question is sourced to at least 1 ISBN Published work as well as the bio written by the subject himself and published on his corporate website. He's a fascinating man about whom an Biography is being compiled by an acquaintance of mine.

Obviously it still needs some formatting work, and will continue to expand as my friend gets more source material, but according to Wikipedia's policies 1 source seems to be sufficient. Hence the articles creation.

Is there something you took particular issue with? I'd appreciate the feedback, obviously this is my first Wikipedia article, but I did try to follow the guidelines.

DiscontentDisciple (talk) 22:43, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

First, did you read the WP:COI message I left you? According to WP, you shouldn't be touching the article at all. Regarding COI, I recommend that you read the articles I list here; in particular, best practices for editors with conflicts of interest.
Second, I'm not sure where you read "1 source seems to be sufficient"—what's actually needed are verifiable and reliable independent third party sources with significant coverage. In particular, WP:BASIC says:

A person is presumed to be notable if he or she has been the subject of multiple published secondary sources which are reliable, intellectually independent of each other, and independent of the subject.

• If the depth of coverage in any given source is not substantial, then multiple independent sources may be combined to demonstrate notability; trivial coverage of a subject by secondary sources may not be sufficient to establish notability.

• Primary sources may be used to support content in an article, but they do not contribute toward proving the notability of a subject.

Which category at WP:Notability (people) do you think he qualifies under? If you think that he "has made a widely recognized contribution that is part of the enduring historical record in his or her specific field", then the article need to cite sources that say so. Clarification of Question in Talk:Delivery (weapons) Article for Creation

Dori, the page that you pointed out as being a completely blank Article for Submission is actually the Talk Page for my as-yet unaccepted Delivery (weapons) article.

Wikipedia doesn't seem to have any obvious, directly-supported way to create a Talk Page for an article that has not yet been accepted. While I did manage to figure out how to create one, as a result of a bug, that Talk Page itself got submitted for review as a proposed new article.

Now granted I just spattered Wikipedia's brains all over the wall, but really, Articles for Creation really ought to be able to have Talk Pages before they are accepted.

I still don't know all the ropes here at Wikipedia. One might reasonably argue that I'm requesting a feature, but I regard the lack of Article for creation Talk Pages as a User Interface Bug. What's the procedure fr reporting it?

Thanks for your help. - MichaelCrawford 50.131.200.103 (talk) 04:48, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

What you think of as a bug, Wikipedia thinks of as a misunderstanding on your part. What you perceive as a talk page for the article is actually a sandbox space for you to be writing your article. Perhaps it makes more sense for you to develop your article in a sandbox in your userspace (with attached talk page) and then just move the article to AFC space when you're done? Alternatively, there are a number of places you can use as a talk space, from your own userspace to the Teahouse, as mentioned in the message I left on your talk page. Yes —and that license is incompatible with Wikipedia. Wikipedia content must be allowed to be changed, because that can and will happen. DoriTalkContribs 20:21, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Talk:Cbehave

Hello DoriSmith. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Talk:Cbehave, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Not valid G8 as it is not an orphan page. Thank you. Alexf(talk) 11:48, 20 July 2012 (UTC)

to Tommy's tools

Most of you are well educated, with deep philosophies. Pete Townshend works for me.

Some elevate pinball to a religion, with a structured church. Been there, done that.

Some realize, sooner or later, that pinball is just a game, and is played by some seriously shady characters.

The numbers changed, I got bored. They will again, as will I.

Later. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.36.25.10 (talk) 12:03, 20 July 2012 (UTC)

Booming buds

I'm sure that should be Blooming... Anyway, I'm afraid you can't A7 it as it's a book. A7 is people (or groups of...), named animals or web stuff. It's a prod or AfD case as it's possibly not spammy enough for G11. Could be worth a try on G11... Peridon (talk) 23:54, 28 July 2012 (UTC)

The title of the article might be Booming buds, but the content was 99% about the author, not the book itself. I suppose I could rename the article and then put it up for A7 again… or maybe I'll just G11 it, as you suggest. DoriTalkContribs 00:04, 29 July 2012 (UTC)
