I'm working on a draft of a stub for an article I began about a year ago. I've attempted to shorten and use primarily external sources. Where should I submit it for an initial edit before submitting it as a formal article?RobertNesbit (talk) 00:09, 4 July 2012 (UTC)

{{help me}} I recently submitted a draft of an article that was declined. While the subject may not be notable enough for an entire article, would it possibly be a candidate for a stub? And, if so, how would I go about submitting it as a stub? Thank you!
- Hi Robert. A "stub" is simply a way of describing a short and not yet well-developed article; it is in no way a separate type of thing. This means that if the subject is not suitable for an article, this inherently includes not being appropriate as a stub, since that just describes a phase in an article's development. Keep looking for independent, reliable, third party sources discussing the topic and write it as neutrally as possible and resubmit. You might also post to the WP:Help desk or maybe the WP:Teahouse/Questions asking people there to help.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 05:11, 5 July 2012 (UTC)

- Generally yes, with a caveat or two. Note that, per WP:SOURCES (emphasis added)
...Other reliable sources include university-level textbooks, books published by respected publishing houses, magazines, journals, and mainstream newspapers. ...
- One caveat is to note the qualifier "university-level"
- A second caveat is that, to the surprise of some, textbooks are often not subject to any formal peer-review, so do not enjoy the same stature as academic and peer-reviewed publications on the same subject matter. Finally, it might depend on the subject matter, as there may be some textbooks covering fringe issues which might not be acceptable.
