Yuki Goto

Thanks for reviewing Yuki Goto (singer). I have a question, though... the original Yuki Goto article was merged into Nice Girl Project! and it was for another singer who was also named Yuki Goto (except she uses different Japanese characters and is female). Would the rename be confusing? lullabying (talk) 18:38, 17 October 2018 (UTC)

@Lullabying: -- Yes that might be confusing. I think the article titles are sufficient for the time being, but there is a group of editors called Wikipedia:WikiProject Disambiguation that handles this stuff. I will see if they have any advice. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (Talk|Contribs) 18:42, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
@Lullabying: -- You might like to see Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Disambiguation#Help with Some Japanese Disambiguation, where I discussed this with the group I mentioned above. Based on their advice, your new article is now back to your original title, Yuki Goto (singer, born 1986). The woman singer used to have her own article before it was deleted and her name was redirected to Nice Girl Project!, because she did not qualify for her own article. To avoid confusion with your new article, she is now classified as Yuki Goto (singer, born 1993). I also created Yuki Goto (disambiguation) just in case. Thanks for contributing! ---DOOMSDAYER520 (Talk|Contribs) 17:47, 18 October 2018 (UTC)

Thank you for assisting me with the Juliana Hall composer page I recently added.

I've provided footnotes now, and wonder if I have done this right. If you have a moment, I would really appreciate you taking a look; I want to learn to do this correctly since I'm a musician and would love to add much more about musicians and related subjects in the future...again thank you! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Webcellist

NPR Newsletter No.14 21 October 2018

Chart of the New Pages Patrol backlog for the past 6 months.

Hello Doomsdayer520, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

Backlog

As of 21 October 2018, there are 3650 unreviewed articles and the backlog now stretches back 51 days.

Community Wishlist Proposal
Project updates
  • ORES predictions are now built-in to the feed. These automatically predict the class of an article as well as whether it may be spam, vandalism, or an attack page, and can be filtered by these criteria now allowing reviewers to better target articles that they prefer to review.
  • There are now tools being tested to automatically detect copyright violations in the feed. This detector may not be accurate all the time, though, so it shouldn't be relied on 100% and will only start working on new revisions to pages, not older pages in the backlog.

Operation Yellowhammer

The actual name Operation Yellowhammer has perhaps eased into history. The fundamental behind the thing ... which is UK contingency planning for for No-Deal BR-exit is actually not part of Br exit negotiations (certainly aprt from being a scare tactic) ... which is to some degree a history log of events .... However an up to date viewpoint of the (current) state of No deal contingency plans would actually be useful in my opinion and is very distinct from BR-exit negotiations. However I spend my life at dePRODs and AfDs and may return to that when/if I have time but I fear MI5, MI6, and various other foreign agencies prefer I am occupied at AfD and PROD and would not have time to justify that transformation myself at present. Thankyou for reviewing the article though. Djm-leighpark (talk) 17:52, 23 October 2018 (UTC)

October 2018

Hi, do you know how to upload pictures onto wikipedia?Worldworldisgreat (talk) 06:35, 20 October 2018 (UTC)

@Worldworldisgreat: - Start with "Upload File" under TOOLS in the main menu area at the side of the screen. Technically it's a simple file attachment, but legally you have to answer a bunch of questions about copyright and whether usage of the image here is legal. If not, your image will be deleted later. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (Talk|Contribs) 13:12, 22 October 2018 (UTC)
Hi, is it possible if you can help to upload a picture of GBB as I do not know which picture on google is ok to be uploaded due to copyright issues. Thank You Worldworldisgreat (talk) 03:54, 25 October 2018 (UTC)
@Worldworldisgreat: - Any picture that you found on Google will probably be rejected by the Wikipedia system, because photographers typically own their copyrights and permission must be given by them. For GBB, we will have to wait for someone officially associated with the group to contribute a photo. There are many Wikipedia articles for famous bands and actors that have no photo for just this reason. See Wikipedia:Non-free content, especially section 8. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (Talk|Contribs) 14:08, 25 October 2018 (UTC)

Deletion article

Hi there. Could you take a look at the evidence I provided on the howard fields deletion article? I’d also like you to know that my undoing of the edits was in no way intended for malicious intent. I only reverted it twice, and one of those I simply added in more sources to provide evidence of notability.Citybuild122 (talk) 21:40, 25 October 2018 (UTC)

Unable to Complete Article Nominations

Unable to complete AfD for the following: "U Mad", "The Glory", "Drunk and Hot Girls", "RoboCop (song)", "Say You Will"

The rest can be merged into main articles for respective albums: "Coldest Winter", "The Bounce", "Down and Out", "Nobody, "Spaceship (Kanye West song)", "Two Words"

Others such "Never Let Me Down" are currently up for deletion or awaiting deletion/redirects. Many of these articles, such as "Drunk and Hot Girls", were redirected but user involved has removed redirects time and again with the proposition that any such article should be put up for AfD. Potentially a COI in place.

Apologies for any and all past incomplete or malformed AfDs. For background info, refer to comments made on User talk page

A page you started (Water Coaster (roller coaster)) has been reviewed!

Thank you. I notice your comment. These "water coasters" are a kind of roller coasters. Not the same as the name of the product "water coaster" as a slide. Take a look at the german, french, dutch articles about water coasters, and the pages dedicated at these ones on rcdb.com. I agree about the "prose"-style of the page. Have a good day. New review request

Hi User:Doomsdayer520 , kindly check and review my contributions on James Gardiner (Actor), Thank you.MrOrhin (talk) 08:43, 2 November 2018 (UTC)

I'm curious about your patrolling of Aspidomancy. I had come across the page but noticed some weird technical stuff going on so I hadn't acted on the page. From what I can find there are almost no RS using the word and there is also almost no academic record of it either. Words in general are tricky to patrol and so I was wondering if you found something I didn't. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 21:18, 5 November 2018 (UTC)

@Barkeep49: - I may have been confused by technicalities as well. Given the history of the article as listed, I assumed that the person who created the article also placed the "additional citations" tag at the top, perhaps in a call to the community for help. So I figured it is an acceptable stub article in which the author has invited assistance. But on second thought that chain of events seems odd. I did check that the term was defined in the books that are currently cited, so Aspidomancy at least exists as a concept. We could switch the article to unreviewed, or perhaps the term could be transferred to Wiktionary. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (Talk|Contribs) 21:33, 5 November 2018 (UTC)
It did feel like a better Wikitionary than Wikipedia entry in my reading of the source material. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 22:21, 5 November 2018 (UTC)

Hello Doomsdayer520,

Community Wishlist Survey – NPP needs you – Vote NOW
  • Community Wishlist Voting takes place 16 to 30 November for the Page Curation and New Pages Feed improvements, and other software requests. The NPP community is hoping for a good turnout in support of the requests to Santa for the tools we need. This is very important as we have been asking the Foundation for these upgrades for 4 years.
If this proposal does not make it into the top ten, it is likely that the tools will be given no support at all for the foreseeable future. So please put in a vote today.
We are counting on significant support not only from our own ranks, but from everyone who is concerned with maintaining a Wikipedia that is free of vandalism, promotion, flagrant financial exploitation and other pollution.
With all 650 reviewers voting for these urgently needed improvements, our requests would be unlikely to fail. See also The Signpost Special report: 'NPP: This could be heaven or this could be hell for new users – and for the reviewers', and if you are not sure what the wish list is all about, take a sneak peek at an article in this month's upcoming issue of The Signpost which unfortunately due to staff holidays and an impending US holiday will probably not be published until after voting has closed.

NPR Newsletter No.16 15 December 2018

Hello Doomsdayer520,

Reviewer of the Year

This year's award for the Reviewer of the Year goes to Onel5969. Around on Wikipedia since 2011, their staggering number of 26,554 reviews over the past twelve months makes them, together with an additional total of 275,285 edits, one of Wikipedia's most prolific users.

Thanks are also extended for their work to JTtheOG (15,059 reviews), Boleyn (12,760 reviews), Cwmhiraeth (9,001 reviews), Semmendinger (8,440 reviews), PRehse (8,092 reviews), Arthistorian1977 (5,306 reviews), Abishe (4,153 reviews), Barkeep49 (4,016 reviews), and Elmidae (3,615 reviews).
Cwmhiraeth, Semmendinger, Barkeep49, and Elmidae have been New Page Reviewers for less than a year — Barkeep49 for only seven months, while Boleyn, with an edit count of 250,000 since she joined Wikipedia in 2008, has been a bastion of New Page Patrol for many years.

See also the list of top 100 reviewers.

Less good news, and an appeal for some help

The backlog is now approaching 5,000, and still rising. There are around 640 holders of the NPR flag, most of whom appear to be inactive. The 10% of the reviewers who do 90% of the work could do with some support especially as some of them are now taking a well deserved break.

Really good news - NPR wins the Community Wishlist Survey 2019

At #1 position, the Community Wishlist poll closed on 3 December with a resounding success for NPP, reminding the WMF and the volunteer communities just how critical NPP is to maintaining a clean encyclopedia and the need for improved tools to do it. A big 'thank you' to everyone who supported the NPP proposals. See the results.

Training video

Due to a number of changes having been made to the feed since this three-minute video was created, we have been asked by the WMF for feedback on the video with a view to getting it brought up to date to reflect the new features of the system. Please leave your comments here, particularly mentioning how helpful you find it for new reviewers.

Hi, you proposed this article for deletion and that AfD was closed as "delete". However, the article was reècreated hours later. It appears to be sufficiently different that WP:CSD#G4 does not apply, but I thought I'd give you a heads-up anyway. --Randykitty (talk) 11:25, 21 December 2018 (UTC)

I've explained how and why I recreated the article on Northamerica1000's talk page, here: User talk:Northamerica1000#Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Crown Pop. By the way, I would appreciate if you remove the notability tag. The group charted and I don't think the coverage qualifies as "trivial" or "routine". See WP:NOTROUTINE, routine coverage would be box scores. (For a musician, that would probably mean concert and appearance schedules without details.) --Moscow Connection (talk) 17:16, 21 December 2018 (UTC)

Fanny stuff

Good work so far on Fanny. A video of them at Beat-Club in 1971 has been doing the rounds on social media in the last few weeks, and the general consensus is "flipping heck, this band are brilliant and should have been as big as the Stones". I think Megalibrarygirl's become a fan of June Millington in particular. Anyway, as you've probably noticed, I've been improving the article towards GA status for Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Green; the one part I'm stuck on is the sources for post-band activities (outside the Millington sisters which is reasonably well documented) which I've put a {{fact}} tag on pending sources for it. I also created an article for Nickey Barclay as she's guested on quite a few other albums outside Fanny, despite disappearing off the fact of the Earth in about 1976. Any improvements to that lot are most welcome. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 16:35, 24 February 2019 (UTC)

Have you thought of modifying it to be about musical journeymen in general? I think would make an excellent essay in this context.
Thank you again. Pete AU aka --Shirt58 (talk) 09:31, 1 March 2019 (UTC)

Shirt58 - I've only seen this kind of situation a few times. Here is another interesting example: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Lenny Castro. For most of these "journeymen", media coverage on their own careers can typically support a brief stub article at least. Not so for Mr. Ross. If these types of musicians start appearing in a lot of AfD's, the "journeyman" effect could possibly be added to the musician notability guidelines, for better or worse. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (Talk|Contribs) 14:34, 1 March 2019 (UTC)

NPR Newsletter No.17

Hello Doomsdayer520,

News
Discussions of interest
  • Two elements of CSD G6 have been split into their own criteria: R4 for redirects in the "File:" namespace with the same name as a file or redirect at Wikimedia Commons (Discussion), and G14 for disambiguation pages which disambiguate zero pages, or have "(disambiguation)" in the title but disambiguate a single page (Discussion).
  • {{db-blankdraft}} was merged into G13 (Discussion)
  • A discussion recently closed with no consensus on whether to create a subject-specific notability guideline for theatrical plays.
  • There is an ongoing discussion on a proposal to create subject-specific notability guidelines for chemicals and organism taxa.
Reminders
  • NPR is not a binary keep / delete process. In many cases a redirect may be appropriate. The deletion policy and its associated guideline clearly emphasise that not all unsuitable articles must be deleted. Redirects are not contentious. See a classic example of the templates to use. More templates are listed at the R template index. Reviewers who are not aware, do please take this into consideration before PROD, CSD, and especially AfD because not even all admins are aware of such policies, and many NAC do not have a full knowledge of them.
NPP Tools Report
  • Superlinks – allows you to check an article's history, logs, talk page, NPP flowchart (on unpatrolled pages) and more without navigating away from the article itself.
  • copyvio-check – automatically checks the copyvio percentage of new pages in the background and displays this info with a link to the report in the 'info' panel of the Page curation toolbar.
  • The NPP flowchart now has clickable hyperlinks.

Tyler Morris Page Falsely Deleted

Hello, After reviewing the your conversation about the Tyler Morris page I did some research and found links to substantiate Billboard and other aspects of this article. How can I go about undeleting this page?

@Doomsdayer520: Hello, I have looked at this page and your comment on the deletion and I believe the page for Tyler Morris and be tidied up a bit and actively reflect this artist’s accomplishments. 2600:1000:B00E:F856:59F7:6083:265F:BF9 (talk) 17:52, 17 March 2019 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Chhom Nimol Dengue Fever.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Chhom Nimol Dengue Fever.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:36, 11 April 2019 (UTC)

The Surrounded Page

Dear Doomsdayer520,

Thank you for your suggestions on the new page for The Surrounded. Everything is clear (adding citations and scaling back detail) except the "essay style" comment. Would you be willing to point out an example of a personal opinion or original thought in the article so that the students in the Indigenous Literature course (registered with Wikipedia) can see an example of best practices? I am the professor for the class, and I want to make sure we're all on the same page.

Many thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by VP2019 (talkcontribs) 16:36, 11 April 2019 (UTC)

page on Pier Augusto Breccia

@Doomsdayer520: Dear Doomsdayer520, thank you for your feedback, I have re-edited the page Pier Augusto Breccia several times (reducing the number of details in section "A turning point: from bistouri to pencil") and made the "intricate details" very clear within the limits of the topic -considering that this page is about a hermeneutic philosopher/artist, it is inevitable to come across complex and elaborate ideas; the same way as when you read for instance Hans-Georg Gadamer, one finds a number of complex concepts which a non familiar reader might perceive perhaps as intricate details.

Please do let me know if you agree I would remove the template

. Or if you think that the page needs re-editing please would mind giving me some specific guidlines? For instance, pointing out which paragraphs do not work and why (so to have an idea of what needs to be changed).

Thank you

Ratings for Cannonball Adderley albums

Hi – I'm just curious, not trying to pick an argument, and certainly not going to get into an edit war about it, but I wonder what you think of your ratings for African Waltz and Domination (Cannonball Adderley album) ten years down the line... would you still give them B and C-class ratings? Richard3120 (talk) 18:13, 30 April 2019 (UTC)

@Richard3120: As you noticed, I made those assessments ten years ago. Back then, the grades were looser and the Jazz Project was more forgiving than the Albums Project, as I recall. For those two albums, "Mid" importance is probably too generous, and I have no particularly strong opinion on the letter grades. Since the process of giving a grade is subjective anyway, I have never had any dispute with someone making a change... except for the occasional fanboy who thinks his favorite underground album is TOP importance. :) ---DOOMSDAYER520 (Talk|Contribs) 18:23, 30 April 2019 (UTC)
I know, I just wondered if you even remembered making those assessments. ;-) I agree with you about the fanboys – it's why I'm trying to work my way through all the albums in the assessment table (yes, I know it's going to take years), especially the still-unassessed ones, and try and get a more accurate assessment of class and importance for them all. Would you mind if I re-rated those two to "Start/Low"? If you prefer I didn't, I'll leave them alone. Richard3120 (talk) 18:57, 30 April 2019 (UTC)
@Richard3120: I don't mind, do whatever you think is best. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (Talk|Contribs) 13:17, 1 May 2019 (UTC)

NPR Newsletter No.18

Hello Doomsdayer520,

WMF at work on NPP Improvements

Niharika Kohli, a product manager for the growth team, announced that work is underway in implementing improvements to New Page Patrol as part of the 2019 Community Wishlist and suggests all who are interested watch the project page on meta. Two requested improvements have already been completed. These are:

  • Allow filtering by no citations in page curation
  • Not having CSD and PRODs automatically marked as reviewed, reflecting current consensus among reviewers and current Twinkle functionality.
Reliable Sources for NPP

Rosguill has been compiling a list of reliable sources across countries and industries that can be used by new page patrollers to help judge whether an article topic is notable or not. At this point further discussion is needed about if and how this list should be used. Please consider joining the discussion about how this potentially valuable resource should be developed and used.

Backlog drive coming soon

Look for information on the an upcoming backlog drive in our next newsletter. If you'd like to help plan this drive, join in the discussion on the New Page Patrol talk page.

Thank you for your review

Hi, Thank you for your comment on my article on En Orient:impressions et réminiscences. I was wondering have you found any secondary or tertiary sources on the book then? My research was unconclusive so I would be really grateful if you might help me with that. Or if you have an alternative to solve this issue I would gladly hear it and then review the page. Kind regards, Jimsally (talk) 06:41, 6 June 2019 (UTC)

@Jimsally: - I reviewed the quality of the article in terms of Wikipedia's standards, but I don't know very much about that particular book. The article is fine in its current state but I suspect that other editors in the future may raise issues about the lack of secondary or tertiary sources Wikipedia has no deadline so you can continue to research that book's place in history at your own pace. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (Talk|Contribs) 14:48, 6 June 2019 (UTC)

New Page Review newsletter July-August 2019

Hello Doomsdayer520,

WMF at work on NPP Improvements

More new features are being added to the feed, including the important red alert for previously deleted pages. This will only work if it is selected in your filters. Best is to 'select all'. Do take a moment to check out all the new features if you have not already done so. If anything is not working as it should, please let us know at NPR. There is now also a live queue of AfC submissions in the New Pages Feed. Feel free to review AfCs, but bear in mind that NPP is an official process and policy and is more important.

QUALITY of REVIEWING

Articles are still not always being checked thoroughly enough. If you are not sure what to do, leave the article for a more experienced reviewer. Please be on the alert for any incongruities in patrolling and help your colleagues where possible; report patrollers and autopatrolled article creators who are ostensibly undeclared paid editors. The displayed ORES alerts offer a greater 'at-a-glance' overview, but the new challenges in detecting unwanted new content and sub-standard reviewing do not necessarily make patrolling any easier, nevertheless the work may have a renewed interest factor of a different kind. A vibrant community of reviewers is always ready to help at NPR.

Backlog

The backlog is still far too high at between 7,000 and 8,000. Of around 700 user rights holders, 80% of the reviewing is being done by just TWO users. In the light of more and more subtle advertising and undeclared paid editing, New Page Reviewing is becoming more critical than ever.

Move to draft

NPR is triage, it is not a clean up clinic. This move feature is not limited to bios so you may have to slightly re-edit the text in the template before you save the move. Anything that is not fit for mainspace but which might have some promise can be draftified - particularly very poor English and machine and other low quality translations.

Notifying users

Remember to use the message feature if you are just tagging an article for maintenance rather than deletion. Otherwise articles are likely to remain perma-tagged. Many creators are SPA and have no intention of returning to Wikipedia. Use the feature too for leaving a friendly note note for the author of a first article you found well made or interesting. Many have told us they find such comments particularly welcoming and encouraging.

PERM

Admins are now taking advantage of the new time-limited user rights feature. If you have recently been accorded NPR, do check your user rights to see if this affects you. Depending on your user account preferences, you may receive automated notifications of your rights changes. Requests for permissions are not mini-RfAs. Helpful comments are welcome if absolutely necessary, but the bot does a lot of the work and the final decision is reserved for admins who do thorough research anyway.

Other news

School and academic holidays will begin soon in various places around the Western world. Be on the lookout for the usual increase in hoax, attack, and other junk pages.

Our next newsletter might be announcing details of a possible election for co-ordinators of NPR. If you think you have what it takes to micro manage NPR, take a look at New Page Review Coordinators - it's a job that requires a lot of time and dedication.

Editing of Nad Sylvan page

Good morning, I do not know if this is the correct way to reply to your message. You wrote me about issues in the Nad Sylvan page I created. I am new to Wikipedia so your help and advice are really welcome. It is not clear to me what should I do now to improve this page in the way you suggested. Most of the content of the page was taken from interviews and after contacting Nad Sylvan himself (that was the most difficult part!), since I wanted that all the information therein was correct. Can you please enlighten me on what to do now? Thank you very much. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Isoladellenote (talkcontribs) 07:05, 1 July 2019 (UTC)

@Isoladellenote: -- I recommend reading this Wikipedia policy: WP:NMUSICIAN. In short, something or someone deserves to be in Wikipedia if they are "notable", and the same is true about the details. Nad Sylvan himself is notable, but a lot of the details in your article about his life are not, such as his grandparents' stern behavior or whether his house had a piano in it. Consider the reading needs of the regular person who would like to know more about the man and his music. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (Talk|Contribs) 16:22, 2 July 2019 (UTC)
@Doomsdayer520: -- Thanks a lot for your suggestions. I have just read the WP:NMUSICIAN. It would be great if you could help me improve this page. I have difficulty in understanding what you think might be be notable or not. I guess it is also subjective at times. For example, precence (or abscence) of a piano at home was an important point in Nad Sylvan's life and influenced the developing of his music. I have checked other artist pages too and, for example, in Adele's Wiki page I read: "She spent a lot of her youth in Brockwell Park where she would play the guitar and sing to friends". I do not think this is more notable but, at the same time it is a piece of information that helps understand how and artist's careed developed. If you could suggest what to remove (or change) I'll do. Thank you a lot for your help. Isoladellenote (talk) 13:52, 8 July 2019 (UTC)

Ways to improve Hannes Vartiainen and Pekka Veikkolainen

Hey! Should I just add more film critique / reviews of their work/films? Wikipedia is still a bit confusing for me. Ciao! Alexeidmitriev (talk) 09:38, 1 July 2019 (UTC)

@Alexeidmitriev: -- The key thing to remember is whether people or concepts deserve to be in Wikipedia, and that requires evidence that they are notable in some fashion. In fact, "notable" is the key to being in Wikipedia. So far, your article on the two filmmakers pretty much only mentions that they exist. But my friend's dog also exists, so does that mean she is "notable" enough to be in Wikipedia? I think those two filmmakers have achieved some professional reviews that help with their notability, so the article should be written to reflect that. Good luck. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (Talk|Contribs) 16:17, 2 July 2019 (UTC)
@Doomsdayer520: -- Got it. Will be fixed.Alexeidmitriev (talk) 16:47, 2 July 2019 (UTC)
