Orphaned non-free image File:Sony pictures logo.jpg

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Sony pictures logo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

PLEASE NOTE:

  • I am a bot, and will therefore not be able to answer your questions.
  • I will remove the request for deletion if the file is used in an article once again.

Unspecified source for File:HilinaSlump.gif

Thanks for uploading File:HilinaSlump.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged files may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 21:59, 14 September 2010 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? -Gump Stump (talk) 21:59, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

Your block of 121.54.97.248

Hi there. I noticed you recently indefinitely blocked 121.54.97.248 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log) indefinitely. I have to say that I am troubled on several levels by this block. First and foremost, this user never received any "final warnings" to warn them that they were at risk of being blocked. They had 1 or 2 low level warnings, but that's it. Also, their most recent warning was back in February, which I would consider far too old to be a "final warning", even if it had been a 3rd or 4th level warning. Second, I noticed you blocked them 4 days after their last edit. As you know, blocking should be preventative and not punitive, and I think a 4 day delay between the user's last edit and the block is hard to justify as preventative. Finally, and I believe most importantly, your block was way too harsh. Per WP:Blocking IP addresses IP addresses should almost never be indefinitely blocked. You indefinitely blocked this IP with no previous blocks, and with not even enough adequate warnings for a 24 hour block in my view. Even if their history was riddled with long blocks and had adequate warnings, an indefinite block would have been inappropriate. I would ask that you reconsider and unblock this IP address. Thanks, VegaDark (talk) 18:22, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

File:Map of USA highlighting Northeast.jpg needs authorship information.

Dear uploader:

The media file you uploaded as File:Map of USA highlighting Northeast.jpg is missing information as to its authorship (and or source) , or if such information is provided it is confusing.

Although images may not need author information in un-controversial cases, or where an applicable source is provided, such information aids those making use of the image, and helps verify the copyright status of an image.

If possible, please consider updating the media information page to make the authorship (and or source) of this media clearer.

If the media is your own work, please consider explicitly including your user name or using the {{own}} template on the media information page.

If you have any questions please see Help:Image page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 12:24, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

MyNetworkTV

Your editing that they are no longer an active network is incredibly untrue. It still continues to maintain affiliates, is rated on a nominal basis by Nielsen, and has many affiliates that wouldn't fail to identify it as a network. You hardly know the editing history of the article, also, as it is always sourced and updated by us at WP:TVS whenever there is a change or addition of stations to the network. I have brought up your concerns on the WP:TVS talk page and will continue to defend this article. Nate (chatter) 19:44, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

WikiProject Good Articles will be running a GAN backlog elimination drive for the entire month of March. The goal of this drive is to bring the number of outstanding Good Article nominations down to below 50. This will help editors in restoring confidence to the GAN process as well as actively improving, polishing, and rewarding good content. If you are interested in participating in the drive, please place your name here. Awards will be given out to those who review certain numbers of GANs as well as to those who review the most. On behalf of my co-coordinator Wizardman, we hope we can see you in March. MuZemike delivered by MuZebot 00:28, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

MSU Interview

Dear Davodd,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, were it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 02:52, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

Seeking consensus on when to edit File:Samesex marriage in USA.svg following new legislation/court-rulings

Hello, I have noticed you made edits on File talk:Samesex marriage in USA.svg and/or File talk:Samesex marriage in USA.svg/Archive 5, so I am contacting you to take part in a newly-formed discussion at File talk:Samesex marriage in USA.svg as for whether we should update the map directly when a new legislation or court-order hits the books or if we should wait until said action takes effect. Historically, we have been updating the map when the new legislation is signed (or veto overrode or won at the ballot box, etc.), and thus it can be inferred that the consensus is to update as soon as one of those occurs. A discussion has emerged in regards to whether we should begin updating from the effective date instead of from the date of signing/etc. If you have an opinion over this matter please post it at File_talk:Samesex_marriage_in_USA.svg#When_to_update_map.3F_Effective_date_or_signing.2Fruling_date

Non-free rationale for File:Red Herring 2005 08 29.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Red Herring 2005 08 29.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. WikiProject Good articles (Participant Clean-Up)

Hello, you are receiving this message because you are currently a participant of WikiProject Good articles. Since the creation of the WikiProject, over 200 user's have joined to help review good article nominations and contribute to other sections of the WikiProject. Over the years, several of these users have stopped reviewing articles and/or have become inactive with the project but are still listed as participates. In order to improve communications with other participants and get newsletters sent out faster (newsletters will begin to be sent out monthly starting in October) all participants that are no longer active with the WikiProject will be removed from the participants list.

If you are still interested in being a participant for this WikiProject, please sign your user name here and please help review some articles so we can reduce the size of the backlog. If you are no longer interested, you do not need to sign your name anywhere and your name will be removed from the participants list after the deadline. Remember that even if you are not interested at this time, you can always re-add your name to the list whenever you want. The deadline to sign your name on the page above will be November 1, 2012. Thank-you. 13:24, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Woolrich requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.) or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. — Arthur Rubin (talk) 17:27, 16 December 2012 (UTC)

Removing Speedy at Woolrich

Hi Davodd, you recently removed a deletion tag from Woolrich. Because Wikipedia policy does not allow the creator of the page to remove speedy deletion tags, an automated program has replaced the tag. Although the deletion proposal may be incorrect, removing the tag is not the correct way for you to contest the deletion, even if you are more experienced than the nominator. Instead, please use the talk page to explain why the page should not be deleted. Remember to be patient, there is no harm in waiting for another experienced user to review the deletion and judge what the right course of action is. As you are involved, and therefore potentially biased, you should refrain from doing this yourself. Thank you, - SDPatrolBot (talk) 08:44, 6 January 2013 (UTC)

And a non-automated program (me) restored the deletion. Under the circumstances, you should request restoration, rather than restoring it yourself. You are quite definately wheel-warring. — Arthur Rubin (talk) 09:35, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
Please re-look at the definition of wheel-warring. - Davodd (talk) 09:45, 6 January 2013 (UTC)

WikiProject Good Articles Recruitment Centre

Hello! Now, some of you might be wondering why there is a Good article icon with a bunch of stars around (to the right). The answer? WikiProject Good articles will be launching a Recruitment Centre very soon! The centre will allow all users to be taught how to review Good article nominations by experts just like you! However, in order for the Recruitment Centre to open in the first place, we need some volunteers:
  • Recruiters: The main task of a recruiter is to teach users that have never reviewed a Good article nomination how to review one. To become a recruiter, all you have to do is meet this criteria. If we don't get at least 5-10 recruiters to start off with, the Recruitment Centre will not open. If interested, make sure you meet the criteria, read the process and add your name to the list of recruiters. (One of the great things about being a recruiter is that there is no set requirement of what must be taught and when. Instead, all the content found in the process section is a guideline of the main points that should be addressed during a recruitment session...you can also take an entire different approach if you wish!) If you think you will not have the time to recruit any users at this time but are still interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still add your name to the list of recruiters but just fill in the "Status" parameter with "Not Available".
  • Co-Director: The current Director for the centre is me (Dom497). Another user that would be willing to help with some of the tasks would be helpful. Tasks include making sure recruiters are doing what they should be (teaching!), making sure all recruitments are archived correctly, updating pages as needed, answering any questions, and distributing the feedback form. If interested, please contact me (Dom497).
  • Nominators, please read this: If you are not interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still help. In some cases a nominator may have an issue with an "inexperienced" editor (the recruitee) reviewing one of their nominations. To minimize the chances of this happening, if you are fine with a recruitee reviewing one of your nominations under the supervision of the recruiter, please add your name to the list at the bottom of this page. By adding your name to this list, chances are that your nomination will be reviewed more quickly as the recruitee will be asked to choose a nomination from the list of nominators that are OK with them reviewing the article.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to seeing this program bring new reviewers to the Good article community and all the positive things it will bring along.

A message will be sent out to all recruiters regarding the date when the Recruitment Centre will open when it is determined. The message will also contain some further details to clarify things that may be a bit confusing.--Dom497 (talk)

Song: "Das lila Lied" (The Lavender Song)

Mr. Speakman,

My name is Matt Pohlhammer, and I confess to having no experience directly editing, nor contributing new content to any wiki. It is for this primary deficiency that I reach out to you for guidance on how to proceed.

I have some question(s) about what I consider to be a rather historically significant, and topical music composition. One of the places I have researched is the English-language WIKIPEDIA web-page for "Das lila Lied" (The Lavender Song).

It is my understanding that you may have originated this wiki, and/or authored contributions and/or edits to the content.

Let me give you some background, to provide context for my questions that follow. My hobby is re-transcription of music scores, using music notation software. I live in the United States, specifically California, where same-sex marriage has been a highly politicized battlefield. I'm heterosexual, but have people close to me, whom I love and care for, who are not.

It's my understanding that this composition is of seminal importance, from a historical perspective, to any comprehension of the equal rights movement for same-gender (If it seems that I'm being oblique, it may be due to the fact that I don't like the term, "gay marriage". It seems misleading to me, which is another discussion.)

For over a year, I have been trying, without success, to obtain a legible copy, in any language, of the sheet music for this composition. Sources in Europe are fairly readily identifiable - my local library Reference desk folks were able to identify a World Cat source in Austria, but they are not permitted to Request materials from outside the United States. Finding an "official" source in North America has proven unbelievably fruitless. Perhaps it is my ignorance, or naivety, but it seems as if information about this subject has been suppressed. Perhaps my personal bias about this is influenced by the fact that the original German-language sources were officially banned in Europe after the collapse of the social reforms made under the Weimar Republic. If possible, I would like to see this material become more freely available to the general public, without the "teeth-pulling", Herculean effort that is now necessary.

I have obtained a reasonably-legible copy of the German-language original sheet music for this composition. It correctly attributes LYRIC credit to Kurt Schwabach. However, the MUSIC credit is: "Musik von Arno Billing".

My understanding is that Mischa Spoliansky was the composer, but may have used "Arno Billing" as a pseudonym for publication purposes, as he gradually fled West, from Russia to France to England, to escape persecution. This persecution may have been due to his ethnicity as much as lifestyle, for which I lack objective historical facts. This seems like a potentially important void to fill with factual data, in the wiki.

There is also the topic of the English language translation. The translation which now appears in the wiki seems to be a literal translation, and does not give a TRANSLATION credit to anyone. (Which is to say, I could not detect such a credit.)

However, that literal translation is nothing like the English-language LYRIC which was recorded and released under the English-language Title: "The Lavender Song". A very famous version of this was performed by Ute Lemper, and it is my understanding that the English-language LYRIC she sings may be credited to a copyrighted translation by Jeremy Lawrence. I do not have specific details about the exact year of the copyright, if it indeed exists. Much of the material about topics such as this one were being censored and burned by the authorities in both Russia and Nazi Germany when such copyrights might have been obtained, so verification may be somewhat difficult.

And yet, surely some academic authorities must exist, who can share their expertise on this subject.

Have you any words of advice on how to effect the inclusion of a more robust, accurate, verifiable, and politically-neutral collection of facts into the wiki?

Sincerely,

Matt Pohlhammer

For reference, please find my transcription of Jeremy Lawrence's English-language translation LYRIC, as sung by Ute Lemper. Any factual errors here are due to my incompetence.

THE LAVENDER SONG

What makes them think they have the right
to say what God considers vice?
What makes them think they have the right
to keep us out of Paradise?
They make our lives hell here on Earth,
poisoning us with guilt and shame.
If we resist, prison awaits,
so our love dares not speak its name.
The crime is when love must hide.
From now on we'll love with pride.

CHORUS:

We're not afraid to be queer and different.
If that means Hell, well, hell! We'll take the chance.
They're all so straight, uptight, upright and rigid.
They march in lock-step, we prefer to dance.
We see a world of romance and of pleasure.
All they can see is sheer banality.
Lavender nights are our greatest treasure,
where we can be just who we want to be.
Round us all up, send us away,
that's what you'd really like to do.
But we're too strong, proud, unafraid.
In fact, we almost pity you.
You act from fear. Why should that be?
What is it that you are frightened of;
the way that we dress,
the way that we meet,
the fact that you cannot destroy our love?
We're going to win our rights
to lavender days and nights.

REPEAT CHORUS:

GAN December 2013 Backlog Drive

Hello! A GAN Backlog Drive will begin in less than 4 days!

In past Backlog Drives, the goal was to reduce the backlog of Good article nominations. In the upcoming drive, another goal will be added - raising as much money as we can for the Wikimedia Foundation. How will this work? Well, its pretty simple. Any user interested in donating can submit a pledge at the Backlog Drive page (linked above). The pledge should mention the amount of money the user is willing to donate per review. For example, if a user pledges 5 cents per review and 100 nominations are reviewed, the total donation amount is $5.00.

At the time this message was sent out, two users have submitted pledges for a total of 8 cents per review. All pledges, no matter how much money, are greatly appreciated. Also, in no way is this saying you must make a pledge.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me or leave a message on the Backlog Drive talk page. And remember, there are less than 4 days before the drive starts!--EdwardsBot (talk) 03:17, 27 November 2013 (UTC)

GAN December 2013 Backlog Drive

Hello! Just a friendly reminder that the GAN Backlog Drive has begun and will end on December 31, 2013!

March 2014 GAN Backlog Drive

It's that time again! Starting on March 1, there will be another GAN Backlog Drive! There will be several changes compared to previous drives:

  • This drive will introduce a new component to it; a point system. In a nutshell, older nominations are worth more points than newer nominations. The top 3 participants who have the points will be awarded the Golden, Silver, or Bronze Wikipedia Puzzle Piece Trophy, respectively.
  • Unlike the December 2013 Backlog Drive, earning an additional barnstar if you reached your goal has been removed.
  • The allowance to have insufficient reviews has been lowered to 2 before being disqualified.
  • An exception to the rule that all reviews must be completed before the deadline has been created.

Also, something that I thought I would share with all of you is that we raised $20.88 (USD) for the WMF in the December 2013 drive. It may not sound like a lot but considering that that was raised just because we reviewed articles, I would say that's pretty good! With that success, pledges can be made for the upcoming drive if you wish.

More info regarding the drive and full descriptions regarding the changes to this drive can be found on the the drive page. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a message on the drive talk page.

I look forward to your participation and hope that because of it, some day the backlog will be gone!
