Greenhouse gas emissions by Turkey

Hello:

The copy edit you requested from the Guild of Copy Editors of the article Greenhouse gas emissions by Turkey has been completed.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

I have added tags to a number of sentences in the article where the meaning is unclear to me, or a fact should be updated if new information is available, or a citation is needed.

While the flow in some parts of the article has changed somewhat I would say its prose is "engaging" (as engaging as it can be in a technical article) and of a professional standard". Best of luck with the FA nomination when you get to it.

Regards,

Thank you very much Chidgk1 (talk) 18:23, 3 August 2021 (UTC)

Thank you..

Thank you for all the help. I am just asking that you added the update tag on the Abul Kalam Qasmi article. The major source of information in the article is a 2006 book that I've in my own library. There's another 2016 book, and sadly I don't have its access, and I'm trying to get it. The only source online that mentioned his research articles is from 2010. I understand that it needs update, because he definitely wrote after 2010 (in my knowledge). But provided the consequences we have, can't we just rephrase the statement right now and remove the tag? It looks awkward for DYK articles to have these tags. I'd love to hear your ideas and suggestions. ─ The Aafī (talk) 06:32, 5 August 2021 (UTC)

COI Request to Update Rivian

User:Chidgk1 I work for the electric vehicle company Rivian and we have a need to update our page. I am in a conflict of interest (COI) relationship and therefore need to work with a volunteer editor. Given your interests in environmental topics and electric cars, I was wondering if you might find it a good use of your time to work with me on allowable edits to improve the page. One example is, I’m not sure the Amazon delivery van content belongs in the history section. For several months I’ve reached out to over half a dozen volunteer editors without much success. It is always my goal to stick to the rules and standards of Wikipedia. I look forward to your reply. Thank you IanRivian (talk) 20:18, 6 August 2021 (UTC)

DYK for Energy in Turkey

On 9 August 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Energy in Turkey, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that a large amount of energy in Turkey is underground and under the Black Sea? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Energy in Turkey. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Energy in Turkey), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. GhG in Turkey

Hi Chidgk1, my edits to the Turkey article were very bold, especially the lead one. Please feel free to adapt/revert as you feel best. I saw you'd nominated it at FAC, and I was unable to find time when it was at PR and the initial FAC, so I am hoping to be able to find time to pitch in this go around. CMD (talk) 10:27, 18 August 2021 (UTC)

Chipmunkdavis Your edits are very useful - please continue - the article has got stuck in a rut and needs breaking out. It is hard for me to see it with the eyes of a new reader. Nothing I saw so far needs reverting - although I may do a few small tweaks later. Chidgk1 (talk) 10:43, 18 August 2021 (UTC)
I suspect you will have to pull the excerpted text directly into the article, per WP:TG. CMD (talk) 14:51, 19 August 2021 (UTC)
Done - thanks

An article you recently created, Turkish Electricity Distribution Corporation, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Currently neither source mentions this corporation. Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. DYK for 2021 Turkey floods

On 2 September 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article 2021 Turkey floods, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. Hi Chidgk1, thanks for your edits to the English Football League play-offs article. I intend to submit it at GAN in a day or so, if you'd like to formally review it, that would be great! I'll get back to those pre-FAC comments I made either later today or tomorrow. Cheers. The Rambling Man (Keep wearing the mask...) 11:19, 16 September 2021 (UTC)

I think it would be best if a non-Brit did the review as (although I am not that into football) they may spot more which needs clarifying. If there is any pic that might make it a bit more colourful as I found it a little dry. Chidgk1 (talk) 11:26, 16 September 2021 (UTC)

DYK for Extreme event attribution

On 21 September 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Extreme event attribution, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. FAC note

I see you just renominated Greenhouse gas emissions by Turkey for FAC; good luck with that -- it's a worthwhile topic and I hope you can get it promoted. I was looking through some recent FACs and thought I would drop you a note about some of your FAC comments. I see you've made several comments that aren't attempts to do a full review of the other articles, and have followed up those comments with a suggestion that the nominator might like to take a look at the article you've nominated. Of course there's nothing wrong with just leaving a couple of comments -- nobody is obligated to do a full review of any FAC. There's also nothing wrong with asking others at FAC (reviewers or nominators) to take a look at your article. However, you might want to avoid doing too much of both at the same time, because a full FAC review is a pretty time-consuming thing to do, and it makes it looks as if you're just leaving a brief note in order to have a reason to ask for a review, rather than because you're genuinely wanting to help promote the article you're reviewing. I'm sure that's not the case, but I wanted you to be aware of the way it might look to others. All the best with your current FAC; I will try to take a look at it myself this weekend, though I can't promise I'll have time. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 13:26, 5 October 2021 (UTC)

Mike Christie Ah but you are right that I am not that interesting in reviewing other articles and certainly won't be doing full reviews. Having said that I never "support" without reading the whole article carefully. But spotting one or two things which could be improved in other articles is so much easier than spotting deficiencies in my own writing. So I hope it will be quick and easy for other FAC nominators to do likewise. If you have an idea for better wording to tempt more people and be clearer that I am not asking for full reviews please suggest - very few people have been tempted so far. I see you have a quantity of maths books - although I have only used simple arithmetic maybe you can spot a logic flaw - for example double counting GHG in 2 sectors misleadingly. Your comments on the Battle of the Granicus

Hello, some time ago you commented on Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Battle of the Granicus/archive1. I didn't have to time to respond before the discussion there closed and took a break from Wikipedia afterwards, so I'm responding on your talk page now. I had some questions and comments. 1) Thank you for all your copy editing. 2) I have searched extensively, but I haven't been able to find anything about archaeological evidence. 3) Will add a photo of the modern Granicus river. 4) Haven't been able to comment to your FA nomination in time, but I proably wouldn't have had the opportunity to do so because I feel exhausted after doing so much work on the Battle of the Granicus article. I'm sorry to see that you're also getting fed up with enormous effort required to elevate your article to FA status, but I'll take it slow and renominate mine after gradual improvement. --AlexanderVanLoon (talk) 14:46, 27 October 2021 (UTC)

Re: Photovoltaic power station

Hello, I have no interest in this article; all I did was move an old version of it after an email request. In general, please don't post messages to user talk pages of people who've only done minor edits on articles or talk pages; this is considered disruptive and spammy. In this specific case it was helpful in a very unusual way though. I was wondering why you'd sent me that message, noticed that I hadn't edited the article, then checked the talk page history ... and noticed that the article and talk page histories were out of alignment, which I went and fixed! Feel free to edit in a link. By the way I know the province is the same as the city but most readers will not - they might think the province is bigger. Chidgk1 (talk) 13:22, 5 December 2021 (UTC)
  • Thank you for your recommendation. I will follow up. On the other hand, I don't know how familiar you ar with the geography, of Turkey. Wie have "şehir" (city) and "il" (province), which are completely different. A "şehir", in this case "Istanbul", is part of the "il" (province). "Şehir" (city) is the central populated area of a "il" (provimce). It has in most cases the same name, but must not., such as "İzmit", the city and "Kocaeli", the province of it. When we say "Istanbul", we mean the city, and if a remote place like "Işıklar" meant, we have to say "Istanbul Province". This is why I used the category for Istanbul Province and not for Istanbul. Please explain if I am wrong. Cheers. CeeGee 10:10, 6 December 2021 (UTC)

Carbon dioxide removal article

Hi Chidgk1,

I just wanted to provide some context on why I removed/edited the reference to the EU Allowance scheme for carbon credits. That scheme basically sets an allowance for companies to pollute x amount. If they pollute less, they can sell carbon credits based on the difference. If they pollute more, they need to buy the credits from other companies. These allowances are very different from carbon removal offsets where the offset represents carbon physically removed from the atmosphere by companies or processes that are net negative as described by the article in question. This means the companies literally removed carbon from the atmosphere rather than polluting less than they were "allowed to" within the context of the EU's program. I think it is important not to confuse carbon removal initiatives with the current EU Allowance system, which is overall a good initiative but which comes with all the baggage of a normal cap and trade system. I left your reference to the potential future development of the scheme to include carbon removal, which would be relevant.

I also left the reference to the discount rate that you re-added... However, the sentence lacks context needed to make it clear. Any form of valuation, without exception, would be highly dependent on the discount rate and thus it does not tell me anything. Without more context, the sentence will only confuse readers, which is why I deleted it. I don't wish to offend you so I left it there, but I would suggest reviewing it to make the meaning clearer or if you are not comfortable doing so removing it yourself.

Thanks for your contributions and the work you do to contribute to the community. Although we may have differing perspectives on this topic I think we are both aligned in our passion for combatting climate change! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Werner81 (talkcontribs) 14:31, 10 December 2021 (UTC)

(page watcher). The old graph was outdated. Back in the days, we had a very poor coverage of the Southern Hemisphere. This caused the graph to show warming around the year 1000, which we now know was mostly limited to the North Atlantic. I should put some 'outdated' note on Commons. Re: your subsidies article reassessment request

Hi Chidgk1,

Thanks for your edit. I responded to your concerns and removed the tags as per explanation given on the talk page here and also in edit summaries. I hope this answers your point and stay at your disposal for additional info if needed.

PS: The Atlantic Council article you added is GREAT (really).. i agree with it completely but the real problem is vested interests who are for the status quo. The reason is that there are people who think they are winning with the status quo (i.e. low fuel prices) while it is just the opposite because they don’t understand basic economics imho (eg Norway which is oil rich, has the most expensive fuel prices).

PSS: the subsidies in Iran could be a SEPARATE *broader article* in its scope and could be linked to it. What do you think? You can respond below for convenience if you so prefer.

Cheers. 172.58.239.19 (talk) 10:34, 29 December 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for those updates. I will take a look and will probably ask for more. I don't think there should be 2 articles as I think the reform plan is small enough that it can fit inside the more general subject fine. But if you think my rename was a bad idea and there should only be the specific reform plan info you or I can rename the article back to the original more specific name. You probably know better than me as I don't know much about economics or Iran. Also is it possible you could get a Wikipedia user-id so I could discuss with you more easily? Chidgk1 (talk) 16:03, 29 December 2021 (UTC)
Hi again, I agree that (may be) 2 articles would be 2 much at this point. What i can/will do is to update the last section of this article with the content from your good [[Atlantic Council] article which says the newly elected IR-gov will seek to address the issue of subsidies (again) seriously... PS: I follow the economy of Iran (and many other topics) out of *pure curiosity* and haven’t seen any update beyond the point you have provided... I think renaming the article back to its original title would be helpful. I let you revert that part if you agree. PSS: I like IP /anon editing but it not only for this article...😁 Thanks for y/understanding. Best, 172.58.239.19 (talk) 16:53, 29 December 2021 (UTC)

Koloğlu Holding moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Koloğlu Holding, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Question regarding editing

Greetings. I'd like to know how to avoid misunderstandings regarding edit conflicts within the future, since I am still learning and growing as a wikipedian. I ask from a place of neutrality and understanding.

Also, I feel like animals caring about their names is a bit of a confusing strawman. Firekong1 (talk) 00:53, 24 January 2022 (UTC)

Firekong1 I think the software that Wikipedia uses has a design fault in that it should not allow users to change other users comments - but only allow admins to delete other users comments if they were libellous for example. Young people like yourself are probably used to better designed software, but the software Wikipedia uses is rather old. But as I understand there is a big backlog of technical change requests I doubt that will be fixed any time soon. Meanwhile it is Wikipedia convention not to edit other people's comments - which I think is polite. Not sure if that answers your question. If not please ask.

By the way as I live in Turkey I tried to make some improvements to Wildlife of Turkey, Fauna of Turkey and Flora of Turkey but they could do with some other editors - if you have time and interest you might like to read and fix/feedback mistakes and missing info - I am sure there is plenty wrong with those articles. Chidgk1 (talk) 06:47, 24 January 2022 (UTC)

I see. Thanks for the info. I don't mean to come off as impolite, it's just that the way I phrase my statements may sound bizarre to most people, and in addition, I see grammatical errors that I feel must be corrected, since I'm a bit of a grammar nazi.

Also, calling animals by different names is important by the region they live in, which is why I see it as important, since we can refer to different populations, but I'm not trying to argue, I just simply didn't understand your point. Firekong1 (talk) 21:37, 24 January 2022 (UTC)

Ah if you enjoy checking grammar, as well as grammar mistakes I hope you might find in the 3 articles I just linked if you have time could you tag "clarify" anything which is unclearly written so I can then try and rewrite in a more understandable way Chidgk1 (talk) 07:04, 25 January 2022 (UTC)

Thank you. I feel an urge to edit wherever and whenever I see bad grammar. I can't help it, and I have no malintent such as disruptive editing and vandalism. I'll try to link examples when I can. For example, bhagayamani made a few poorly stated sentences in English, and I felt a need to correct it. Firekong1 (talk) 16:34, 25 January 2022 (UTC)

Hello! I wanted to drop a quick note for all of our AFC participants; nothing huge and fancy like a newsletter, but a few points of interest.

  • AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.

Thanks a lot!

Thank you so much for your edits at SpaceX Starship, especially at your in-line tagging. They were genuinely helpful for me as well, on where to rephrase sentences. May I get a copyedit for the rest of the article as well? :) CactiStaccingCrane (talk) 15:16, 11 March 2022 (UTC)

CactiStaccingCrane Too busy at the moment on Hydroelectricity in Turkey sorry. But I have found that when I tell GOCE I am aiming for FA they put one of their best on the job. Having said that I see you had a copyedit from them in October, so maybe next time emphasise that you want them to tag "clarify" anything they don't understand. I only tried to get one article to FA and gave up in the end. But if you put it in for FA again please ping me as I may have more time by then. Meanwhile https://www.economist.com/science-and-technology/2022/02/19/spacexs-monstrous-dirt-cheap-starship-may-transform-space-travel could be worth citing:

"Starship’s upper stage (which, in isolation, is rather confusingly also called “Starship”)"

"serious problems with the Raptor engines" - what?

Contrast "Falcon 9 ..... second stages ... remain expendable."

"belly-first" instead of your belly-flop?

“rather like how skydivers use their hands and feet”

"When it is within a few hundred metres of the ground it will flip itself upright, relight some of its engines and make a rocket-powered landing of its own."

"hopes that each Super Heavy booster could be ready to fly again within an hour."

"he hopes they might one day manage three flights a day"

"Some steel alloys, though, get significantly stronger as they cool down, meaning less is required for a given strength. And since Starship uses cryogenic propellant, cooling is in abundant supply."

"America’s armed forces would welcome the ability to replenish shot-down satellites quickly and cheaply"

So will the Russians try and shoot down Starlink satellites do you think? Chidgk1 (talk) 17:48, 11 March 2022 (UTC)

Yeah... I am pissed of how the mainstream media try to describe the latest news about the project. I remembered the Time Person of the Year 2021 award to Elon Musk, which accompanying him is a real bad article on a technical level. Anyways, best in luck at your article, I really hope that it succeed! CactiStaccingCrane (talk) 17:53, 11 March 2022 (UTC)
Oh I did not spot the Economist technical mistakes. Your article does not mention the point about "The firm’s Boca Chica facility was built on the understanding that it would be used for the Falcon Heavy, a much smaller rocket than Starship." I think Chidgk1 (talk) 17:59, 11 March 2022 (UTC)
Alright, I forgot this. Actually, this is a whole debacle, but it should be moved to the sub-article as the section is already becoming a tad too long. Maybe a sentence is enough here. (About the Economist article itself, they actually did the job well! I should read the text much more carefully next time :( ) CactiStaccingCrane (talk) 18:00, 11 March 2022 (UTC)

GAR for Starship

Hi Chidgk1, I noticed you recently closed the GAR for StarshipX as no consensus/keep GA. I don't believe your assessment is in line with the substance of the discussion, which included a number of criticisms that remain unfixed, not simply neutrality as you mentioned in your very slim rationale. Sourcing and grammar were also major points of contention, which you appear to have glossed over. Could you please undo your close and allow for closure by someone with perhaps more experience closing GARs or assessing articles to perform the closure? ♠PMC(talk) 21:15, 12 March 2022 (UTC)

Premeditated Chaos The discussion was extremely complicated and I could see no consensus. Sorry but I am not going to spend any more time on it. On a more general point I raised 3 community GAR a long time ago but no one has closed them yet. One of them I have asked both the most relevant project to close and administrators to close namely https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Good_article_reassessment/Sea_surface_temperature/1 The discussion is very short if you have time to close it. I doubt I will bother with community GAR in the future but will just do individual ones as much less hassle. Chidgk1 (talk) 06:30, 13 March 2022 (UTC)
So you are not going to reconsider your "no consensus" close of a GAR with several outstanding prose and sourcing issues? WP:GAR says: "After discussion, consensus must decide if the article has improved enough to meet the good article criteria" -- it does not say "After discussion, consensus must decide if the article does not meet the good article criteria". Based on my reading, the opposite result would be mandated of your close; that "no consensus" reverts to the article no longer be a GA. Urve (talk) 10:43, 13 March 2022 (UTC)
Chidgk1, this is a really disappointing and dismissive response from you. When another editor challenges a close you have made, there's an expectation that you will be able to respond and explain your reasoning. To simply declare that you won't be spending any more time on it - and then to ask for me to close a GAR you started - is, to put it mildly, insulting to both me and the process. ♠PMC(talk) 21:29, 13 March 2022 (UTC)

(Talk page watcher) Chidgk1, are you OK with another editor re-closing the GAR discussion? You don't have to do anything. Just say "yes" and others will take care of the paperwork. Take care Clayoquot (talk | contribs) 23:27, 13 March 2022 (UTC)

Clayoquot Thanks for watching and explaining that I would not need to do anything, but I stand by my decision that the community GAR was so complex that I could see no consensus. If anyone thinks the article is still not good presumably they can do an individual GAR and list the problems in summary style so that other editors can see exactly what they are and fix them or not. Even if they were not fixed immediately and the article was delisted at least there would be useful guidance for future editors. Nobody is going to want to reread the community GAR. April might be a good month to do an individual GAR, after allowing editors a week or two to incorporate the results of the environmental report due 28th March. It seems as if the results of the report could change the company's plans considerably. Also I am guessing that the economics will change now Russian launch vehicles are being boycotted by many countries - for example don't know yet how OneWeb will launch https://www.nytimes.com/2022/03/03/science/russia-oneweb-launch.html but presume UK will decide soon. Chidgk1 (talk) 06:26, 14 March 2022 (UTC)
I'm sorry, to be clear, your allegation is that no one will bother to read the GAR, so the article should be... kept as a GA? Because the clearly-noted problems (which have now caused the article to SNOW fail FAC a third time) weren't listed in a format that was simple for you to read? This is an absurd position to take. In addition, your arguments that the article may change significantly as a result of OneWeb and an upcoming environmental report seem to imply that the article would fail the GA stability criteria. I would like to urge you to reconsider one more time. ♠PMC(talk) 06:47, 14 March 2022 (UTC)
Suggest you wait 4 weeks then do an individual GAR Chidgk1 (talk) 06:51, 14 March 2022 (UTC)
Another poor response that completely ignores the substance of everything I've said. I'm going to ask for additional thoughts at WT:GAN. ♠PMC(talk) 06:58, 14 March 2022 (UTC)
I've pinged you, but if you don't have pings on, the discussion is here: Wikipedia talk:Good article nominations#Requesting opinions regarding poor/biased GAR close. ♠PMC(talk) 07:07, 14 March 2022 (UTC)

Arbitrary break

A bit unrelated, but I think Chidgk1 may be interested at the environmental aspect of Starship, such as carbon emissions. This is the part that I am the most shaky on, and I think that having an expert would clear out any misconceptions. CactiStaccingCrane (talk) 04:25, 31 March 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for asking - I am not an expert and perhaps a bit early to consider carbon emissions as depends how often they fly. Totally speculating but I could imagine Elon Musk trying to balance off "carbon savings" from Tesla cars replacing gas cars against Starship emissions. Ask me again maybe next year. "oblong"

Hi, thanks for the copyedits at Chicken turtle, much appreciated. Just wanted to send you a message about this edit where you tagged "oblong" with a clarification needed template. The adjective "oblong" is the one used by the source (Ernst & Lovich 2009, p. 227) and as a BrE speaker myself, it sounded a bit odd to me at first too. In dictionaries, though, the definition for the adjective (sometimes tagged as "US") seems to cover this usage: "deviating from a square, circular, or spherical form by elongation in one dimension", "having a shape that is longer than it is wide", "longer in one direction than in the other direction", nothing about being two-dimensional. However, the fact you as a drive-by reader had such a strong reaction as to add a tag makes me think I'll just delete the word oblong and stick with elliptical (I could write "ovoid" but to describe an egg as ovoid seems rather tautological). Cheers, BigDom (talk) 05:43, 15 May 2022 (UTC)

BigDom Its not a big deal - I don't have a strong opinion - do as you and the main reviewer think best - maybe by the time you get to FA there will be more chicken turtle egg pics on Wikimedia Commons Chidgk1 (talk) 16:06, 15 May 2022 (UTC)

Hello again! Could you give me a shout when you've finished copyediting the page? I started the GA review yesterday and refreshed the article this morning to find you'd already addressed some of the issues I was going to flag. I'll hold off doing any more for now while the content is being updated. Cheers, BigDom (talk) 07:17, 15 May 2022 (UTC)

BigDom Ah sorry about that - as waiting for GA takes a long time I knew I would be adding bits and pieces while waiting so thought it was not worth polishing until someone picked it up. So long as you don't "quickfail" I expect to have time to fix the many problems you will no doubt find. Please go ahead. Also I noticed in some previous reviews that reviewers list minor grammar problems. If you spot commas in the wrong place or prefer different phrasing or suchlike feel free to directly edit if quicker or easier for you than listing small faults. If you accidentally change the meaning I can easily revert. Also feel free to tagbomb with "clarify" or other tags wherever anything would be unclear to say an 18 year old of average intelligence. Chidgk1 (talk) 16:21, 15 May 2022 (UTC)
No worries at all, and don't worry, it's nowhere near quick failing! Cool, I'll do some minor copyediting myself and then leave a few comments where I'm not sure what's meant or if there's anything missing. Cheers, BigDom (talk) 16:27, 15 May 2022 (UTC)

Hi! On your Graphics Lab request you mention Both the above pipelines can send to both Greece and Bulgaria so please show this schematically - no need to show exact routes in Thrace. Just a note on formatting

Many thanks for your help on the tipping points article, Teşekkür ederim!

I think you may not have noted that the author format is |last1=Doe |first1=John, with an optional parameter |author1-link=John Doe (if the linked article exists). All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 08:28, 25 July 2022 (UTC)

You added |author1=John Doe (removing |last=Doe |first=John, by the way). I replaced that with |last1=Doe |first1=John |author1-link=John Doe. If it's author #3, it's |last3= |first3= |author3-link= . All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 08:34, 25 July 2022 (UTC)

Cut and past moves

The correct way to accept a draft with a redirect in the way is to first nominate the redirect for speedy deletion (using {{Db-afc-move|Draft:page to be moved}}), waiting a few hours til an admin has cleared the way, and then accept the draft. A WP:history merge is significantly more effort as I understand. Femke (talk) 18:03, 29 July 2022 (UTC)

@Femke: I have the "TW" twinkle on far right of my top menu so can choose "CSD" on the dropdown list. So I did look for something like "technical deletion of redirect" as a reason for speedy deletion but did not spot anything like that. Perhaps I should have chosen the radio button marked "Custom rationale using {{db}} template".
Anyway I followed the instructions on https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Climate_change_in_the_Maldives&oldid=1100331139

which say " please do not create an article from this redirect (unless moving a ready draft here)". I thought "moving a ready draft here" was what I did but perhaps I misunderstood.

Probably the first time I have come across this and not likely to happen again soon as I very rarely approve draft articles.

Chidgk1 (talk) 18:43, 29 July 2022 (UTC)

No worries :). That is a bit confusing yes. Moving has a very specific meaning on Wikipedia: renaming a page, which keeps its history intact. We need that to ensure attribution is done properly. With a copy-and-paste move, it seems like you wrote it instead. Femke (talk) 18:56, 29 July 2022 (UTC)

Oil and gas in Turkey

Hi Chidgk1, I saw that you nominated Oil and gas in Turkey for GA. I'm not in for a full review, so I'll just place a few comments here.

  • Some MOS:DATECOMMA issues.
  • The lead seems to be a bit messy. Consider merging single-line paragraphs: "general rule of thumb" is to have four, and eight is well over that.
  • "However transit via Iran is technically possible" — Comma after "however"; MOS:HOWEVER. Done several times in the article.
  • "In 2005 the Oil spill response law was passed" — Needs some clarification, what does this law do? Also MOS:DATECOMMA.
  • "The country would like to become a hub to supply the EU,[73] however EU gas consumption is expected to decrease, so analyst Kadri Tastan says this is unlikely in the long term due to the EU green transition.[74]" — Unclear which part of the sentence the bolded "this" refers to. Reword as "The country would like to become a hub to supply the EU,[73] however, analyst Kadri Tastan says this is unlikely in the long term as EU gas consumption is expected to decrease due to the EU green transition.[74]"
  • "It is hoped that further electrification, of sectors such as road transport…" — I believe this is a misplaced comma? Should be after "sectors".
  • I'm again not thrilled by the history section, so I've left a few sources below. Consider browsing through DergiPark for some more sources.
  • İlhan, Emin (1961). "Türkiye Petrol Araştırmaları". Scientific Mining Journal (in Turkish). 1 (2). Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects: 63–67. ISSN 2564-7024. Archived from the original on 6 August 2022. Retrieved 6 August 2022.

Climate change temperatures in Ireland, the UK and the US - 2022

There will warm winters in all those countries? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Reference_desk/Miscellaneous#Climate_change_temperatures_in_Ireland,_the_UK_and_the_US_-_2022 86.130.4.135 (talk) 20:09, 3 September 2022 (UTC)

@86.130.4.135: Ah I think you mean "There will be warmer winters in all those countries?". Good question. I am not an expert but I understand winters will be warmer most of the time, but the polar vortex getting weaker might mean some winters will be colder. The scientists don't know it all yet and some things about climate and weather are complicated, but we can trust the Met Office to tell us the best they know. They have some other videos and a podcast about weather and climate. I think those are mainly for adults but if you are a teacher or a student they have stuff for children too like this. By the way there is also info for teachers and students who want to edit Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Guidance_for_younger_editors
Some other websites for children about climate change:

https://www.c2es.org/content/climate-basics-for-kids/

If I get time I might write more on https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_warming
By the way you don't have to tell me whether you are child or adult or in-between as I am following https://xkcd.com/2667/. As I am an adult but not American I will now have to look for "Explain xkcd" to find out who "Green Day" is! Chidgk1 (talk) 13:45, 4 September 2022 (UTC)

Text-source integrity

Good afternoon. Could you please be more careful about WP:text-source integrity? It's concerning to see an experienced editor like you say in an edit summary that the added text is not supported by the cited source.

You seem to be making quite general statements with news articles unsuited for that kind of statement, something I also saw at solar power. If you want to make general statements, you really need to use different sources such as academic textbooks, the IPCC reports or other high quality reports. I think one of the best source easy to understand by lay people is the United Nations emission gap report.

Correcting errors with text source integrity is an extremely time intensive process. And vital to keeping trusting Wikipedia high. Remember, quality is better than quantity. —Femke 🐦 (talk) 12:38, 27 November 2022 (UTC)

Akkuyu

Thanks, that was why I added "fuel" into the citation even though it was not in the referenced source.

The contract, obviously, caters only for the high-activity fuel waste, as that is the concern as far as nuclear waste goes. No one is going to ship tens of thousands of low-activity waste abroad indeed. Low activity waste is never an environmental concern - it does not need any special treatment and can be handled as any other radioactive waste from hospitals etc. It is a financial concern as still needs special handling. But not an environmental one so no one - in the business - generally cares about it. The referenced article is ambiguous up to misleading on this as it itself sourced from specialist domain sources where above understanding is par for the course. The current text better conveys what my version only implied. 83.240.62.117 (talk) 15:41, 29 December 2022 (UTC)

Friendly advice

@Chidgk1

If you remember I had been one of firsts to offer a small help in your DYK. Co incidentally you seemed to be interested in some of Gender and sexuality related topics many of them are considered contentious disputed and more closely regulated areas. In usual procedure one gives this formal awareness notice first and later personal issues are taken up @ arbitration committee. Over the months I have observed one gets used to personalize every small disputes against each other and that is not the best environment to work for anyone.

Users like me who are aware of policy restrictions can not become reckless in the name of being bold and need to follow WP:DR. My personal advice is to go slow in contentious topic areas by giving priority to consensus building at talk pages and avoid to be WP:Pointy and study Gender and sexuality related regulations. Wish you happy editing and cheers.

An article you recently created, Gübretaş, is not suitable as written to remain published. And please remember that interviews, as primary sources, do not count towards GNG.(?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). Proposed deletions

Hello, Chidgk1,

Please provide policy-based deletion rationales for any article that you tag for a proposed deletion, do not just write one or two words or make up a reason why you think the article should be deleted. I removed several PROD tags you added because you either gave no deletion rationale or all or the one you provided was inadequate. Even with PRODS, you still have to give a justification for why an administrator should delete an article or file. Think fewer articles tagged with more fuller deletion explanations. Thank you for being more thorough in the future. Liz Read! Talk! 05:44, 31 March 2023 (UTC)

You can look through User:DumbBOT/ProdSummary and see the type of deletion rationales provided by other editors to give you an idea of what I'm hoping you can start to supply with the articles you tag. Thanks. Liz Read! Talk! 05:49, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
@Liz I blame my tools! Oh OK the drop down PROD tool did give a warning when I left the reason blank but it allowed me to go ahead. I thought PROD was supposed to be easy. So it seems giving a reason is not mandatory for PROD or maybe the tool should be amended if it is mandatory - however I will try and remember to follow the warning in future not that I am likely to do many PRODs in the near future. Or if the types are pretty structured maybe the tool should be multiple choice for the different types of reasons (although of course the text box should remain in case people want to give more explanation). Quick notice

Hi Chidgk1, I will be going for a trip tomorrow, so the review will stall for a day. I'm sorry for that, but I can say that the article looks good. After a few more copyedits, I will pass it. Great work! Aintabli (talk) 15:27, 6 April 2023 (UTC)

İyi yolculuklar Chidgk1 (talk) 16:53, 6 April 2023 (UTC)
Thank you. I am sorry that I had to fail the review, because I believe there should be some major changes in the article. I don't want you to be discouraged in any way. I thought the progress of the review would be further hampered by the necessary major changes. I encourage you to rewrite the lead with parts from the former version so that it gives a clear picture to anyone clueless about Turkey. I would also encourage you to revise the wording, paraphrase, etc. Feel free to raise questions about how the article can be improved. I am eager to review the article again if you renominate it. Info box with no parameters

Hi, you’ll note that I reverted your addition of an infobox to Britney Schmidt— info boxes are not helpful with no parameters filled. Feel free to re-add with some parameters filled in, or I will do so once I’m editing on a desktop. Thanks, Eddie891 Talk Work 10:34, 14 April 2023 (UTC)

Of course you know how to add an infobox but I doubt new editors do. Adding an infobox with no params gives many more people a chance to fill it in Chidgk1 (talk) 10:42, 14 April 2023 (UTC)
That's an interesting point of view, one that I hadn't considered. Still, I think it may be worth taking the time to fill in some of the basic parameters, if you have such time. Regardless, I've restored the ibox and populated parameters, so no issues there. Eddie891 Talk Work 11:40, 14 April 2023 (UTC)
