Untitled[edit]

The first and third paragraphs of History repeat each other. I think I'll have a go a starting this from scratch when I get timeBebofpenge 03:05, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Since the ward disappeared, it is becoming more difficult to define the extent of Anerley. It seems to be shrinking on all sides. I have rewritten most of the 'History' section. This is mainly to remove repetition and improve readability.Bebofpenge 23:46, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Anerley has not disappeared it has just suffered a thousand cuts, again and again. Most of the memories of Anerley are just that -Memories. The best archive of images is on the Beckenham History Gallery.

I have just re-read the piece about a Nazi Vengeance weapon destroying Station Rd buildings. This was Crystal Palace Low Level Station Rd, not Anerley Station Road. The latter were mostly there in their Victorian efficiency in 1945 when I has brought in to no 28. The view from our front windows towards the BBC tower was the same as the shot on the main webpage therefore our house was probably a shop & dwelling built about 1840 on the site of the land bought from the Croydon Canal Company by the Croydon Railway.

The Perks family has moved away, the Hakewill family have moved away, the Naidoo family moved, the Tenner(baum)family have gone. The Library in Betts Park followed the Croydon Canal into obscurity. Why are there no names of the schools which served the locals and still do? I played on the bombed site which became the Malcolm family of Primary and Junior. Two of us won scholarships from the school and gained interviews at Dulwich College. Nowadays Malcolm seems to be a failing school from their position in the league tables.

Following the influx of Carribean colonials into the Brixton area an ethnic dispersal policy was adopted and two or more families were billeted onto an empty property two doors down the road. They were selling carpets to anyone. We only had lino. The other neighbours thought we were posh because we had "The Times" kept on one side for us in the newsagents across the road. The carpet families were terrified of us they thought we were going to eat them. They lasted there about 5 years before moving away.

Along Jasmine Road at 40a was the depot of Otway and Golder, polite drivers and very large trailer low loader lorries carrying a boys Christmas wish of equipment like cement mixers, steam rollers, ex-army lorries. It is only recently I found they had been operating before the war. Low loaders, from which the rear wheels can be detached are claimed as modern. Commercial Motor Archive 15 Sept 1939 page 34 prove otherwise with a picture of a Dyson trailer with detached wheels.

Were Anerley there first in the technology stakes?

Is this why the Nazis tried to bomb Anerley into smithereens?

Main image in info box[edit]

Ok so the main image in the info box does not actually show the main part of what would be Anerley town centre. The main centre of Anerley is along Anerley Road, but where the town hall, surrounding shops, nearby Anerley railway station and nearby Anerley Arms are. This is also the historic centre of Anerley where the original Anerley House stood. If we have to have an image which shows the main street then it should at least be the true centre of Anerley. The current one shows the hill just a short distance down from Crystal Palace town centre. I will therefore be updating in due course.QuintusPetillius (talk) 14:25, 13 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
