DYK for Bacon ice cream

Bacon

Great job with the bacon ice cream article. That's the first GA about a bacon dish(as the most are on books). You should think of joining the Bacon WikiCup to expand bacon coverage. Spongie555 (talk) 21:19, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

Chakotay RfC

You are welcome to amend it however you see fit. Dlabtot (talk) 18:40, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

Well, that didn't work out. You changed it to a completely different question. The subject of the dispute is whether or not 'Amal Kotay' is his 'real name', not whether or not 'Amal Kotay' should be included in the article. Dlabtot (talk) 16:16, 26 January 2011 (UTC)

Greetings, It seems you created the Wiki entry for Faith Theological Seminary. I tried to edit it by adding more information as Academic Dean, but it appears to revert to the original automatically. Could you please allow me to save the revised page? Thank S.H. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Stephenhague (talkcontribs) 19:23, 26 January 2011 (UTC)

Welcome to the Bacon Challenge 2011

You already seem well accustomed to how things work at the Bacon Challenge 2011, but here's the fancy official welcome message for you to gaze upon and enjoy nonetheless.

Hi, Worm That Turned, and welcome to the Bacon Challenge 2011! The goal of this event is to expand as much bacon-related content as possible, so get started whenever you can! A side event to the Bacon Challenge is the Bacon WikiCup 2011, an event where participants in the Bacon Challenge have a chance to score points for creating and expanding bacon-related content, all while trying to score as high as they can. Be sure to submit all your bacon-related contributions to the submissions page in order to score points. At the end of the Cup, the winner will get a nice trophy along with all other participants receiving a medal for their efforts (virtual, of course; don't go waiting by your mailbox for it). For any questions or comments regarding the Challenge, please head on over here, and for any questions or comments relating to the Cup, go here. Thanks and good luck.

By the way, you can choose a country or state to represent in the Bacon WikiCup. Anything particular in mind? ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 02:25, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

WikiCup 2011 January newsletter

We are half way through round one of the WikiCup. Signups are now closed, and we have 129 listed competitors, 64 of whom will make it to round two. Congratulations to The Bushranger (submissions), who, at the time of writing, has a comfortable lead with 228 points, followed by Zanzibar Hurricanehink (submissions), with 144 points. Four others have over 100 points. Congratulations also go to Greece Yellow Evan (submissions), who scored the first points in the competition, claiming for Talk:Hurricane King/GA1, Principality of Sealand Miyagawa (submissions), who scored the first non-review points in the competition, claiming for Dognapping, and United Kingdom Jarry1250 (submissions) who was the first in the competition to use our new "multiplier" mechanic (explanation), claiming for Grigory Potemkin, a subject covered on numerous Wikipedias. Thanks must also go to Jarry1250 for dealing with all bot work- without you, the competition wouldn't be happening!

A running total of claims can be seen here. However, numerous competitors are yet to score at all- please remember to submit content soon after it is promoted, so that the judges are able to review entries. The number of points that will be needed to reach round two is not clear- everyone needs to get their entries in now to guarantee their places! If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. I note your participation in the RFC/U regarding Bidgee, but I'll leave that aside and respond there.

In the meantime, if you're interested in playing an impartial mediator between Pdfpdf and I, you'll agree that:

If I can, not only am I happy to help - I'm quite keen. FYI, I have entered into an undertaking to avoid pointing out the (adjective deleted) behaviour of a certain (noun deleted).

...is tantamount to actually calling whatever he deleted from those two sections (or leaving it to my imagination what he intended to call me). This is categorically inflammatory and, while it isn't against the letter, I believe it's against the spirit of our agreement to leave each other be. I haven't posted anything like that in reference to Pdfpdf, even while I was disagreeing with him. -danjel (talk to me) 06:13, 16 February 2011 (UTC)

Does this artist have the resources to have an article? [[1]] Thanks Worm — Preceding unsigned comment added by 6stargeneral (talkcontribs)

This query was written just before you were blocked for sockpuppetry, and since there's a chance you will read my reply I will write it here. First, yes, Qwel is notable, a few moments research gives [2], [3], [4] and [5]. I've done a thorough search on Mikie Da Poet and have not found sufficient evidence that he meets notability. If he is indeed an integral part of the documentary you have mentioned, then when it is released I am sure he will gain the coverage to be notable. For now there is insufficient evidence of the same.
Regarding yourself, whilst I am happy to help a new or established editor building an article I must point out that you must not use sockpuppets to bypass the system. If you want to edit, request an unblock on your primary account, declaring all other accounts you have created. I also think it might be a good idea for you to stay away for a period of not less than 6 months, to allow Mikie Da Poet some time to gain coverage and to show that the community can trust you to not break it's rules. If you cannot hold to these requests, I cannot help you. WormTT 09:15, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

Mikie da Poet

Just to let you know that there is a coordinated trolling campaign involving all sorts of nonsense (including email petitions to the Foundation) to get this guy a page. There has been dozens of people look at this and there has been an extremely strong consensus over several discussions that Mikie da Poet should not have an article. I recommend you do not waste time with 6stargeneral and his socks. Stifle (talk) 21:11, 17 February 2011 (UTC)

I have no problem with the RfC/U being closed but if I had have seen your proposal I would have added at the very least a caution for Danjel and MelbourneStar. Your proposal talked about "shared blame" and yet only suggested cautioning Bidgee and not the other parties who seemingly shared blame. Sadly, it is all too late. Bacon Challenge 2011 coming to a close

Dear ever-so-valiant Bacon Challenge 2011 participant:

Almost a year ago, the Bacon Challenge 2011 kicked off for the third year in a row with the annual mission of expanding and bettering Wikipedia's coverage of bacon. We are almost at the end of this year's Bacon Challenge, which ends on March 1st. I am pleased to say that, during this time period, Bacon Challenge participants have done a great job. Ten new pages have been created. Two articles have been granted the status of being good articles. Over one hundred reliable sources have been placed into articles, and over 7,500 words have been added. Six articles have been featured on Wikipedia's main page under the "Did you know..." section. These are all excellent results.

The Bacon WikiCup has also been exciting to watch. Contributors have been racking up more and more points as the deadline approaches. As I post this message, Devon Worm That Turned is in the lead, with Belgium Cirt in second, and United Kingdom Acather96 in third. Belgium Cirt currently has created the most new pages, while Devon Worm That Turned has done the most work in expanding articles and achieving DYKs. United Kingdom Acather96 has done the most work with image uploads. Remember, while the Bacon Challenge is ending in just a few days, it's not too late to make any last-minute contributions to get a few more Bacon WikiCup points. Everyone who contributes at least something will earn a virtual commemorative medal, so if you haven't contributed anything bacon-related to Wikipedia, now's your chance. Contributions can be submitted up until the end of March 7th, but only for contributions that were done before the beginning of March. The extra week is provided for participants to report any last-minute contributions, and to allow for any contributions that require a timely process (such as a good article or DYK nomination) to go through. At the end of the event, scores for the Bacon WikiCup will be completed and re-checked, and prizes will be distributed. Thanks and good luck! ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 04:12, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

Mentoring students: be sure to check in on them

This message is going out to all of the Online Ambassadors who are, or will be, serving as mentors this term.

Hi there! This is just a friendly reminder to check in on what your mentees are doing. If they've started making edits, take a look and help them out or do some example fixes for them, if they need it. And if they are doing good, let them know it!

If you aren't mentoring anyone yet, it looks like you will be soon; at least one large class is asking us to assign mentors for them, and students in a number of others haven't yet gotten to asking ambassadors to be their mentors, but may soon. --Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 20:09, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of World Federation of Music Therapy

Hi Worm, I do not understand the arguments, why this page shall be deleted. Found this as an explanation: "This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable." This organisation is a non-profit organisation, Link problems were there, but they are checked so far. Apart from that what else should be done? There are other "World Federation of ..." pages that kind of have the same structure. However what is need to be done?Joefac (talk) 11:26, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

Well, Wikipedia has a requirement of notability for articles, there has to be a criteria to stop articles being created on just anything (see WP:N for an explaination). Although it's not a paper encyclopedia and not looking like it's going to run out of room, we do need limits. When it comes to notability, there are two parts, the first is the "assertion" so we know why, and the second is the sourcing - to prove the assertion. One editor felt that the article did not even "assert" notability, so it wasn't even stating why it could be notable, and he therefore felt it could be speedily deleted (under this rule). However, another editor disagreed (in this edit). So, for this article to be deleted, it would have to be nominated for a deletion discussion, where editors would discuss it for at least a week before deciding if it is indeed notable.
As to what to do, I'll have a look at it when I get a chance, though I'm a little busy today, it may be tomorrow or towards the end of the week. The article is not under any threat of deletion at the moment, since the speedy deletion request was declined and no further request was made. WormTT 11:39, 22 February 2011 (UTC)
Further, I've put some suggestions on Talk:World Federation of Music Therapy. Please be careful regarding copyright violations. WormTT 12:41, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

Up for adoption

Hi, looking for a parent if you're interested? We get on well and you clearly know what you're on about. Just let me know how to arrange things and i'll do what i can Thanks =] Jenova20 17:13, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

Homophobia in the media

I am stopping this discussion. Christian and Jenova, please walk away from each other. Your disagreement will be resolved, but not now - I am to busy to mediate at the moment. At this point in time, NEITHER of you is right, NEITHER of you has "won"

I think i've found what i need for a homophobia in the media article =] There's a few stories i know of already and then there's links for a lot of the Daily Mail ones here http://www.gaytimes.co.uk/Magazine/InThisIssue-articleid-6115-sectionid-721.html What do you think? Jenova20 09:35, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

Well done, I'm impressed! I can't look at the link as I'm at work and it's firewalled, but why don't you start up the article at User:Jenova20/Homophobia in the media. See how it goes, perhaps even mention it at Talk:Homophobia, to see if anyone is interested in helping. I'll keep an eye on it to, help out where I can. Remember to write it as a commentary, not based on examples of homophobia that you've found but rather based on other people's commentary on the subject. WormTT 09:47, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

Well i've asked for help on the Homophobia Talk page aswell since i obviously don't catch every one and read every news source. Besides, all i have is one for the Sun and a load for the Daily Mail. Thanks for the help, will keep you updated Jenova20 12:42, 21 February 2011 (UTC) Good idea. It can take a little while to get an article up to scratch, but I'm sure you'll be able to do it. Like I say, I'll be hanging around to give you a hand, but keep me posted if there any big developments. WormTT 12:44, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

Will do =] Thanks Jenova20 09:47, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

What do you think of this? Mail Online I only added the last paragraph, but the source is the Daily Mail so there shouldn't be any complaints as far as i can see. Thanks Jenova20 12:47, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

Well, I'm not keen on the "often taking hours" comment. It may be true, but it's unsourced. The rest all seem to fit with their terms and conditions, and is worded in a neutral manner, so looks good. WormTT 12:50, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

I may look for a possible source or just delete that then, unfortunately someone has saved time by deleting the entire paragraph. Is that reversible? Thanks Jenova20 14:49, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

I wouldn't edit war over it, but suggest at the talk page that you remove the "often taking hours" part, as that could be seen as POV, but the rest is neutrally worded and sourced and should be included. Then leave Christian1985 a fair chance to respond. The only problem is that the source is a "primary" source, which isn't something we should be using really. Not that it's exactly a well sourced article in any case. WormTT 14:53, 22 February 2011 (UTC)
ACTUALLY - I've just realised that the page that I get to doesn't say "where there is speculation or where police involvement is ongoing". Is this on the security page? WormTT 14:54, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

What a surprise, just noticed it's Christian again. So he not only controls the Daily Mail article, but also their Mail Online article aswell. What happens here as i'd like to avoid the admin this time? Thanks Jenova20 14:59, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

Well, first things first, don't edit war (I know you haven't yet!) There is no rush to get the information into the article, but lets how this unfurls. Firstly, do you agree with the fact that "often taking hours" is a point of view, with no source to confirm? Secondly, does the source say "where there is speculation or where police involvement is ongoing"? Have a think about how this sentence can be worded so that it conforms to a neutral point of view and agrees with the sources, then start a new section on the talk page, explaining what you believe should be added and why. Try not to make any accusations - remember to assume good faith. I'll be watching. WormTT 15:04, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

The last bit you mentioned is on a few of their articles when they state they are unable to accept comments for legal reasons. Thanks Jenova20 15:00, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

Can you find a link to one of the articles for me? WormTT 15:05, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

I've changed the article slightly so that he shouldn't have a problem with it, let me know what you think. I'll look for an article that doesn't accept comments but that could take a bit. Thanks Jenova20 15:13, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

Right, well I think that is a much better sentence. You would have done well to discuss the matter on the talk page first or at very least to put an edit summary explaining the reinsertion. Please please please please PLEASE read WP:BRD. It one of the most important essays regarding collaboration on wikipedia. Remember, getting the information in isn't as important as how you edit, because if you edit in an un-collaborative manner, you may end up getting blocked for disruption (especially if you edit in a contentious area), and then you will be no help to anyone WormTT 15:19, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

I must be lucky as i found one already, read the bottom of the article and theres a text box. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1359382/Big-Fat-Gypsy-Wedding-Paddy-Doherty-police-guard-fearing-revenge-attack.html Thanks Jenova20 15:16, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

Thanks. "Legal reasons" is much better than what was there before. Please do read my previous comment, starting "Right, well..." WormTT 15:21, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

I read that link and believe that i should take this to the talk page for discussion? Also, the new edit has left me with a message on my talk page about vandalism. Can i get a third opinion? Thanks Jenova20 15:28, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

replied all over the place. Don't revert him. just discuss on the talk page, I'm dealing with the "Vandalism" comment. WormTT 15:32, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

Sure, but i can't edit the article again because of that vandalism claim right? I'll post on the talk page Thanks Jenova20 15:36, 22 February 2011 (UTC) You can... but I would advise against it. Per the article I suggested you read WP:BRD, you've made an edit and he's reverted. Now it's up to you two to discuss the matter on the talk page. If after some discussion, it's clear that it's going nowhere, perhaps you could ask for a third opinion or some outside comment, but we'll come to that if needed. There's no rush to get the information on there, "edit warring" is not going to help, discussion is the way to do it. WormTT 15:40, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

I've added to the discussion page. Hopefully this will go well, but i doubt it after last time. Thanks for the help Jenova20 15:43, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

Hi, can i request that you put the filtering part back into the comment on the Mail Online article? I didn't put anything in the original i had not already looked into and i now have a link with the mail admitting they use filters. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/coffeebreak/chat/r/t-10228545/index.html?threadIndex=12

I know we both want this ended but i do not like to concede to Christian on this as he is wrong. Thanks for the help and don't think me ungrateful as the addition to the article wouldn't be possible without your work. Jenova20 13:14, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

I'm afraid not. The source you've just provided there isn't acceptable under reliable sources and the text in the article is perfectly reasonable in that "filtering" and "pre-moderation" is effectively the same thing. I think it might be a good idea for you to read Wikipedia:The Truth, which explains that "right" and "wrong" are not what this encyclopedia is based upon, but rather the concepts of "neutrality" and "verifiability". WormTT 13:19, 23 February 2011 (UTC)
This is just what I am referring to Jenova20, you are attacking me yet again. We agreed 'filter' is not appropriate because it is not stated in the reference. Trying to add that word just to 'get one over' on me really is very childish. You really need to change your attitude or you will not last long on this site. Worm that Turned will be adding the section as agreed, I consider this an end to it. Thank you Worm TT for your assistance in this matter. Christian1985 (talk) 13:33, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

My biggest flaw is probably that i always over research but when commenting on the Daily Mail or Mail Online it clearly becomes my biggest strength =] Thanks Jenova20 13:17, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

Worm That Turned, I am glad to hear you will be mentoring Jenova20, will you please tell him to stop attacking me. I have read some of his earlier comments on this thread and he is being very insulting. 'He controls the Mail article'. I am getting very very annoyed at being accused of such nonsense and I would like to see a stop to it. Jenova20 really needs to change his attitude. Christian1985 (talk) 13:37, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

Christian, while I understand that you take offence to Jenova's opinion I plan to discuss his point of view with him over the next few days and hopefully help him understand what the issues are with the way he is expressing himself, to allow him to not get into such situations in the future. I see this as essential to his growth and simply telling him off without explaining the reasoning will not help in the long run. I'm actually planning to discuss some slightly more important Wikipedia concepts with him first, so I ask you to have patience. I have asked Jenova in no uncertain terms to avoid articles that might stir up the issues, and I'd appreciate it if you would step back and put your criticisms on hold for a week or so too. If you'd be agreeable, I would like you and Jenova to have an interaction in the future where hopefully you two can put the past behind you - and I'll leave you a note when Jenova has passed through a few stages of the adoption process. WormTT 13:45, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

Christian quit bullying. It is not for yo to choose what goes into the article and what doesn't, it broke no rules and you still disagreed. As you said to Worm, you disagreed with the statement and felt it had no place. Well i did and you solely can't be the one to decide that as you don't own the article. Has anyone added to that article other than you? I very much doubt it.

I am not the first person this tactic has been used against and i know your tricks from last time. You are the one bullying and you will not get an apology. If i want to edit, i produce sources, others have been helpful and also suggested improvements and helped out. The only two articles i have had trouble with are the Daily Mail and the Mail online, both times because you do not allow anything you don't agree with. Thanks Jenova20 14:00, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

"This is just what I am referring to Jenova20, you are attacking me yet again." I did not, and you are a liar. I stated you were wrong, as the link showed, whether appropriate for the article or not. The only reason to see that as a personal attack is if you are affiliated closely with the Daily Mail. Either way i did not attack you, you have no credibility there. I read the link worm by the way Worm. Jenova20 14:04, 23 February 2011 (UTC)
