Hi. Thanks so much for your excellent edits to Bryan Gunn. I did notice that in this one you introduced overly descriptive alt text, contrary to what it says in WP:ALT (see the picture of the Queen!) In Recognition

I was on the election page and saw your proposal to grant SMasters the title of Coordinator Emeritus. I not only support giving him the title, but also propose we create a new award in his honor, of which he will be the first recipient. I apologize for leading you all the way over here, but I would like to surprise him with an unexpected honor; he more than deserves it. I think we could arrange a copyeditor's badge of some sort. Something he could show off that no-one else has gotten before him, and something very hard to get so that he'd feel as special as we all know he is. I think I would prefer if the wording was in a more active tense. Using the past tense makes it sound like he's going away and will not return, which I don't think is going to happen. Copyediting of "Tramways in Wrocław"

Hi there, you copyedited Tramways in Wrocław on 2 July 2011, but you accidentally placed the distance convert template incorrectly. In many eastern European countries a , (comma) in numbers actually signifies a . (point); ie 258,2 km is 258.2 km, and a . (fullstop) is used in place of a , (comma); ie in western currency - $1,000.00 in eastern European it would be $1.000,00 (not in all cases, but in many). I thought I should alert you to this idiosyncrasy so as to avoid mistakes like the one on Tramways in Wrocław, where you inadvertently stated that the route length was 2582 km instead of 258.2 km. Ninja is a wonderful name for a cat! She's beautiful. In the pic here are Bryn and Mikey (Mikey is getting a bit senile now, but I can still remember holding him in the palm of my hand the day he was born). We also have Bryn's brother Iffy, and a mostly-German-Shepherd bitch (the bit which isn't GSD is Newfy, so she's heavy!) ... ahh, and 13 ponies, and an eight-foot boa constrictor. Why did you remove the flags from the Axis powers article, the images help users who recognize the flags used in the war infoboxes

As I said, the flags of the countries of the Axis powers help users with visual identification of the flags with those in the World War II infobox. The flags also helps to show that each section is about a distinct country. Stripping the article bare of almost all pictures that could help users with visual recognition.--R-41 (talk) 02:04, 28 March 2012 (UTC)

Most people would not recognise the flags of the countries; some of these countries no longer exist, and some of the flags have been changed. My feeling is that using photographs could give the reader a better understanding of the issues of WWII than a collection of flags ever could. --Dianna (talk) 02:10, 28 March 2012 (UTC)

It helps with visual identification and the flag image is a neutral image representing the country. This is done in infoboxes to aid with visual identification. Displaying the flag of Italy at that time of the war helps users who notice black and white images of a tricolour flag with a cross shield on it. Also a picture should be shown of the primary political leader shows who was responsible for the actions of each country - in the case of Italy since King Victor Emmanuel III was largely a figurehead for most of the war, an image of Benito Mussolini should be shown.--R-41 (talk) 02:15, 28 March 2012 (UTC)

A lot of the flags in info boxes are considered WP:flagcruft, so I do not find your argument to be very compelling. I did introduce an image of Mussolini with this edit. There is no picture of King Victor Emmanuel III in the article. -- Dianna (talk) 03:02, 28 March 2012 (UTC)

With this edit you changed a free image into a fair-use image with no explanation. The image is the flag File:JDS-party-symbol.jpg and it's similar to three other flags:

Ribison Family Murders

Dianna,

The fair use free doctrine certainly pertains to the ROBISON FAMILY MURDERS family portrait that was first place in August of 2009 and image update in February of 2013. It has appeared in numerous magazine articles, newspaper articles, books and on-line since July of 1968. It is imperative that it be reinstated in this 45th year of remembrance to the slain family members.

Hello Mr Vidocq. The image was not tagged for fair use, but tagged as being in the public domain. The image is not in the public domain, as the professional photographer (or his employer) who took the shot owns the copyright. Help test better mass message delivery

Hi. You're being contacted as you've previously used global message delivery (or its English Wikipedia counterpart). It doesn't feel so great to be spammed, does it? ;-)

For the past few months, Legoktm has built a replacement to the current message delivery system called MassMessage. MassMessage uses a proper user interface form (no more editing a /Spam subpage), works faster (it can complete a large delivery in minutes), and no longer requires being on an access list (any local administrator can use it). In addition, many tiny annoyances with the old system have been addressed. It's a real improvement! :-)

You can test out MassMessage here: testwiki:Special:MassMessage. The biggest difference you'll likely notice is that any input list must use a new {{#target:}} parser function. The problem is that the permission email did not meet our requirements in some way. Usually this means that they did not specify a license, or they specified a license that's not compatible, or they specified "for Wikipedia use only", or specified "for non-commercial use only". Ah, now I understand - the other website has copied and pasted from the Wikipedia page. You can confirm this by viewing the copyvio report and looking at what appears on the other website (smithforensic.blogspot). Between halfway and two-thirds of the way down it says,

I've been warned previously about usage of copyrighted material on Wikipedia and I am aware it is banned, however my edits to Kawaii metal did not break these terms. I purposely used information from the website loosely as I did not want to be warned again, the similarities in wording were referring to the genres that influenced the genre and the term "incorporates elements", and I don't understand how this is similar enough to denote being on my final warning, Thank you. I'm sorry if I sound rude but the first section removed stated "Kawaii death is a subgenre of kawaii metal that incorporates elements of death metal, melodic death metal, deathcore, black metal and or post-hardcore into its sound and was pioneered in the late 2000s by bands like Dazzle Vision, Exist Trace and Blood Stain Child" while the source said "Kawaii Death refers to when Kawaii Metal bands incorporate elements of Death Metal/Melodic Death Metal, Deathcore, Black Metal or Post-Hardcore into their sound. Bands like DAZZLE VISION, Blood Stain Child and exist†trace pioneered a proto-Kawaii Death sound in the late 2000s.", these sections are not "identical" they are simply stating the same information, especially as the source refers to the bands playing the genre while the text in the article refers to the genre itself.

Additionally, the second section was based on multiple source the first saying "Hardcore, metalcore, mathcore, deathcore; this list goes on and on. But we’re taking a look at its most recent and incredibly polarizing addition: kawaiicore.", the second saying " “Nipppn Manju”, has been dubbed “kawaii-core” (“kawaii”/cute + hardcore)" and the third saying "(Ladybaby) specialize in "kawaiicore," a mix of danceable pop and mosh-friendly metal" while the article said "Kawaiicore is subgenre of kawaii metal that incorporates elements of hardcore punk, metalcore, mathcore and or deathcore, originating in the mid-2010s, pioneered by Ladybaby and Babymetal", Thank you, (talk) 16:49, 21 September 2016 (UTC)

Sorry but there's just too much overlap between the copyright source page and the material you added. Please have a look at the copyvios report before I did my edit. You can see the highlighted phrases that are identical to the source web page. There's too much overlap, with some of the phrasing identical to the source web page. Here is the copyvio report after I did the revisions.

But a majority of the similarities highlighted are musical genres, and if those are excluded (which they clearly should be as they are just referring to what influenced the genre) the only similarities are "Evolving out of" and "builds upon attributes of", I don't understand how these are similar enough for me to be on my final warning, thank you, (talk) 17:11, 21 September 2016 (UTC)

Content has to be written in your own words and not inclusive of the source material at all. It's been suggested that not so much as three words should be together in the same order as the source. One thing I find that works for me is to read over the source material and then pretend I am verbally describing the topic to a friend in my own words. Stuff should also be presented in a different order where possible. Summarize rather than paraphrase. This will typically result in your version being much shorter than the source document. There's some reading material on this topic at Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing and/or have a look at the material at Purdue. The facts RE: articles and adding to them

Hi Ninjidiannaa;

Articles printed for public view and referenced like those posted to the world wide web are for public view and use. This is the difference between internet (public) and intranet (private). When one uses an article and posts facts shared by the author, then credit belongs to the author. One can subscribe to services like JSTOR and by doing so, have free range of thousands of documents. The only caveat is that authors should be cited / referenced for their work. (which I have complied with) When facts or opinions discovered by the author are referenced, then appropriate and common sense citations universally accepted in the world of research can move forward. Millions of research papers are written with this premise, unless it's a personal interview which obviously requires permission from the author. Authors of articles use a term known as PUBLISHING, it's a term that takes works and makes it available to the masses, folk like you and I to read, reference and cite.

An example would be if one were to write a research paper on Einsteins Theories. Hardly is it appropriate for one to personally contact Einstein and ask for permission, as he is no longer living, nor is it necessary to ask for those who manage his estate. What I did do and what 90% of all Wikipedians do, is to use documents and resources that are already published for public viewing, then cite the source. Siting the source is not the same and receiving personal permission from the author. If you are in fact inferring that ALL articles written in Wikipedia using facts fall under permission than everyone citing facts need personal permission from the authors. Wikipedia then needs to publish all the written permission letters as well as all the citations. There is a difference between citation of fact, and plagiarism. To read an article, uncover facts, cite the facts in ones own words then cite / reference the fact, is not a Copy Right Violation. Your accusation is (completely unreasonable). If however you absolutely feel you are accurate, them, please follow your prescription below to the editors of the article.

The Editors of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have not received permission from maroni, Jesus Christ, nor Alma, to post their thoughts, opinions and works. Perhaps it's time that the editors go back and get full written permission from these individuals to cite their thoughts and opinions, otherwise under you argument, It's all infringement and a violation of Wikipedia. This seems to be what you are suggesting and perhaps we need to open your thoughts to ALL of wikipedia for their input?

If the Article is CLOSED to editing, please state it as such, if you are deliberately blocking editing of Wikipedia articles because of your close personal ties to the subject, you are in violation of Wikipedia policy. Otherwise it's unclear as to what you are suggesting. If it's that latter, then, perhaps one needs to become familiar with the mission statement of Wikipedia. Please help keep Wikipedia an open source of information based on facts, not emotions.

Thank you for responding to my comment to your talk page. I will take your advice and put it to the test. I have gleaned very worthy and accurate information that should be added to the subject article which you and I are referring to. I will extract (in my own words) and then add the information to the article titled: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I will also properly cite and reference the information. The information will come from the electronic archives of UNLV and are Journals that are peer reviewed, These are not religion magazines, nor are they pamphlets or brochures, handed to church members by fellow church members. These articles are objective that focused on the practice of religion. The cited works DO NOT promote religion or any religious faith, their sole focus is based on religious studies of ALL RELIGIONS from around the world including that of the subset article. If the material is then removed, then we will both know the validity and objectivity and focus of the articles sole intention is to use the power of Wikipedia to push an agenda. I hope you are on board with the prior. Thanks again.

Thank you for your recommendations, but keep in mind, I make partial translations. sometimes coming from a number of different languages, sometimes very short, so in some cases attribution is complex, that does not apply in all cases, so I usually add multiple references to support contributions. If you check the specific article in wikipedia in French that you mention it (Cathédrale du Sacré-Cœur de Buôn Ma Thuột), you can see that the article in Spanish is previous [Catedral del Sagrado Corazón (Buôn Ma Thuột)], French user Chaumont 1 day later translated the article into French as you can verify in history [1] [2] the same day I create a English version.--Warairarepano&Guaicaipuro (talk) 17:52, 21 September 2016 (UTC)

You are correct, I probably got some of these wrong, as I could only guess which ones you used. In some instances I took the oldest one, which may not have been the one you actually used, but may have been the original ultimate source. If attribution is complex, that's fine, you should still do it though. For example, your edit summary could say "Attribution: content was translated in part from the corresponding articles on the Italian and French wikis on August 31, 2016. There's definitely a song named "Almost Over You" but in your review of this version of the article you missed the bit about Kenny Loggins covering the song on the film Ghostbusters. That's a hoax! Thank you for your comment. However, I disagree. The information from the source was very specific to the location of the library site and well worded. Since I have not had the privilege of visiting this site, I did not feel that a free-content equivalent with acceptable quality could be created with the same effect, and therefore elected to use the copyrighted text verbatim. The policy does not require that all content be free content nor does it state that block quotes cannot be used. It states that if one decides that a free content equivalent cannot be created with acceptable quality and the same effect and one chooses to use non-free content then the "copyrighted text that is used verbatim must be attributed with quotation marks or other standard notation, such as block quotes."^[1] Caragall384 (talk) 00:14, 17 October 2016 (UTC)

Firstly, I would like to thank you for your time in spotting an apparent mistake that I had made while editing the article National Police Cadet Corps. It always helps when someone who is more senior than me, and has been editing for a longer time on Wikipedia than I have, comes and corrects me so that I know what I have done wrong so that I can correct my mistakes and not repeat it again.

Secondly, I would like to dispute your argument that I had "appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license." After reviewing my edit, it seems like the reason why you flagged it was because my wordings followed the wordings in www.hsnpcc.com too closely. My answer to this is that you cannot paraphrase or simplify a mission, vision, song or pledge just like how you cannot do the same for your country's national anthem or pledge. All the information I had added in was obtained from the official NPCC website, www.npcc.org.sg.

Besides the song, mission, vision and pledge, I had also added in information to the infobox. I had paraphrased the information from the National Police Cadet Corps Annual Report 2011 whenever necessary, which was in this case, only the total amount of cadets NPCC had as of 2011. I could not paraphrase the location of NPCC Camp Resilience, nor could I paraphrase the number of school units, or the previous names of NPCC before its present name today.

Also, Hougang Secondary School's National Police Cadet Corps Unit, which owns www.hsnpcc.com, does not own any copyright whatsoever to any of the information that I had added in, simply for the fact that they did not create the mission, vision, song, pledge or do the original research, which was done by www.npcc.org.sg, the official NPCC website, which I had credited.

Hello Itzsdgyyy. Regarding the mission, vision statement, and song: we don't normally include that content. See Wikipedia:Avoid mission statements for details. We wouldn't include the lyrics of the song, even if they weren't protected by copyright. So those things are not suitable for inclusion here regardless of the copyright issue. But while I was checking, I noticed that I removed by mistake some changes you made to the lead and infobox that are actually ok to keep, so I've put those back. The current image exits on Wikimedia but isn't what the band would like used - they prefer the professional photograph used.
