RfA: Many thanks
Many thanks for your participation in my recent request for adminship. I am impressed by the amount of thought that goes into people's contribution to the RfA process, and humbled that so many have chosen to trust me with this new responsibility. I step into this new role cautiously, but will do my very best to live up to your kind words and expectations, and to further the project of the encyclopedia. Again, thank you. --jbmurray (talkcontribs) 05:53, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

Major brain fart, anyone? I probably shouldn't be editing when I don't even know what month it is anymore :P Fvasconcellos (t·c) 13:36, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

Yep, you have to be careful of reverting, especially with BLPs. miranda 02:18, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

User:Miranda/userpage

Now that Nick has restored it, IMHO, you should put it back to its original state. It's obvious the outcome of the DRV would have been to restore it to what it was, so Nick decided to restore it himself with the caveat that you remove the section he disagrees with, which he did when he restored it. One of those "hurry before consensus rules against me" moves. - ALLST☆R echo 13:30, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, I will. Have to find those difs. again. miranda 18:53, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi Miranda, I was wondering if I could borrow your expert but non-scientific eyes to see if this article manages to introduce articles like DNA, Gene and Genetics in a comprehensive but completely non-technical way. Are there any parts that you find unclear/confusing/badly-written? If you have time to give this a look-over I'd be most grateful. All the best Tim Vickers (talk) 21:50, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Might want to have more sources on Modern synthesis section and avoid using "it". Other than that, the article is fine. miranda 18:08, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

Weird Question

Hi Miranda, hope this finds you well.
I have a strange question that I hope you will humor for me. I created two adverts (Image:Qxz-ad141.gif and Image:Qxz-ad142.gif), uploaded them to commons as per the instructions on your page, and got them working properly with the template. I do have a question, though: {{Wikipedia-adnavbox}} is supposed to be placed on image description pages, but how do I do this when the image is uploaded to commons? Is there some step I've missed here?
Feel free to reply here or on my talk. Thanks in advance! L'Aquatique[talk] 03:40, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

You can just add the template to the page. I did it for you in this case. Here. miranda 17:35, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
Ah, I see. Thanks so much- L'Aquatique[talk] 06:58, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Miranda, I saw you recently listed yourself on Wikipedia:WikiProject League of Copyeditors/Members and was hoping I could enlist your assistance. We are in desperate need of a copyeditor at Natalee Holloway, per a couple editors' concerns at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Natalee Holloway. If you don't have a current project, we could really use your assistance and a solid copyedit. Thanks, - auburnpilot talk 04:27, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, but I am kind of busy right now with other projects. miranda 06:26, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
You and everybody else it seems. I'm starting to get the feeling that project needs to be marked {{inactive}}. Thanks anyway, - auburnpilot's sock 14:59, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
With today being a major holiday in the U.S. and summer beginning in the U.S., editors like myself are pretty busy. But, I will see what I can do. miranda 23:45, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
I definitely enjoyed my Memorial Day weekend, and I'm always happy to take a Monday off. Thanks for copyediting the Holloway article; I was beginning to doubt I'd find somebody, and greatly appreciate the work you're putting into it. Thanks again, - auburnpilot talk 03:17, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

GA Review of Ethiopia

Yes, I suppose the nomination was probably premature, but I wanted to get a good idea of what issues, if any, were still outstanding from an uninvolved reviewer. If you could list the most outstanding problems here, and any suggestions you had for improvement, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks for your time! Kaldari (talk) 21:56, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Hello. I see you reviewed this article, and passed it as a GA, but Judgesurreal777 has almost immediately changed the article status tag to "B". I was going to revert it, but I thought it would probably be better if you did, as they are claiming you didn't review the article, when you clearly did. Thanks. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Thatextrahalfaninchuk.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Thatextrahalfaninchuk.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:14, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Aloha, Miranda

Ummm... was there a reason you re-inserted an unsourced statement here? Mahalo. --Ali'i 18:20, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

Yep. You deleted the author attribution as well, which is discussed on the talk page. miranda 18:31, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
Ummm you shouldn't use rollback in that situation then... you should have just re-added the name, and left the unsourced statement out. Rollback should be used for "undoing edits that are blatantly nonproductive." (emphasis in original). My edit was very productive, and I shouldn't have to tell you how to use (or not use) your tools properly. I'll re-delete the statement again. Mahalo. A hui hou. --Ali'i 18:39, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
Nevermind, you got it. Thanks! --Ali'i 18:40, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

I'll just stick this here so another section won't be created... I don't know how much it matters, but your vote on my request was made after it should have closed. I don't know what the procedure is (or if there is one) for this. Just thought I'd let you know. Mahalo again. --Ali'i 17:41, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

RFA closes when the bureaucrat or bureaucrats come to the consensus to promote or not promote a candidate for adminship. Bureaucrats can extend the time for a candidate to be on adminship. I have seen this occur many times. miranda 17:54, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. But wouldn't they normally make a note that they were extending it? Thanks. A hui hou (see you later). --Ali'i 18:03, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

Oops I just read your previous email (I never check my email very often). That's fine. Let me know when. Naerii - Talk 20:13, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
I never offer to do this kind of thing but during and following peer review suggestions I'll try to give the article a decent copyedit as i think parts of the article could be better expressed. I'm not some kind of copyedit hero though so still try to get a serious copyeditor to review it if the article's heading for FA. Don't wait up for a response from the league of copyeditors though! Sillyfolkboy (talk) 21:24, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for your help! miranda 18:25, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

WikiProject Law ← requested article

I decided to request an article on "selective publication." Maybe, however, that is not the right name for the concept (i.e., who decides which cases have precedential value?) and it already has an article. The closest topic that I can find on here is judicial opinion. 69.140.152.55 (talk) 00:57, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Sorry for taking so long to respond. I have started a draft at User:Miranda/selective publication with some sources. You are welcome to edit the draft and I will move to main space when done. Kind of busy with other projects. However, you can call this your own independent project. :-) Cheers. miranda 18:10, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
Ah, this looks like a much bigger project than anything I have taken on so far; I would not be able to get it beyond stub or Start-class status, and would be more comfortable if the article were done by, perhaps, a law student? The flip side of it is that if I were to get even a start- or C-class article going, I think that would be a major accomplishment. 69.140.152.55 (talk) 19:48, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

You may want to join this discussion

The "deletes" from the AfD on Reaction to Tim Russert's death are attempting a backdoor delete through a redirect/merge now. There's a discussion at the talkpage regarding this, but they're now attempting to redirect it without having built consensus for doing so. S. Dean Jameson 17:30, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

  • Miranda, the reason it redirects there is because the "deletes" merged/redirected without consensus. S. Dean Jameson 17:56, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
    • The article has been restored, and thus the link can be readded. S. Dean Jameson 18:09, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
Might want to discuss it at ANI. I just added a picture. miranda 18:34, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Can you help?

I see you were listed as a participant in the League of Copy-Editors so it seems likely. The thing is the Military history wikiproject urgently needs prose pros to help with our best articles. Milhist covers a broad range of interesting and varied subjects from film to biography, battles to weaponry, and Roman emperors to twentieth-century dictators. In Milhist, A-Class has become the last port of call before FAC and we are looking for people to help identify prose and MoS issues at A-Class A-Class Reviews and help fix them prior to featured article candidacy. We also have a copy-editing section in our Logistics Dept and that can always use experienced copy-editors. For most of our articles, you don't need to be a specialist in the subject matter, just good with words.

If you think you can help, please do! Thanks for your time, --ROGER DAVIES talk 04:12, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
