Cities in Greece[edit]

Hi, thanks for adding more cities to List of cities in Greece. Where did you get your census data from? I found this official looking page (see table 38, local level), but these population data (from the 2001 census) do not agree with both your 2001 data and what I copied from German wikipedia (seems to come from worldgazetteer.com). Do you have a clue what could be the "real" populations? Markussep 13:02, 20 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Yiannis! Where exactly did you find these 2001 census data? They're different from the ones in the table 38 I mentioned above. I think the ones in table 38 are data for municipalities, that may cause differences for the smaller cities. Markussep 20:29, 21 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Image Tagging[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Valtadorio.jpg. I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag. Until a more informative tag is provided, it will be listed as {{no source}}, which means it can be deleted in 7 days. Could you add a better tag to let us know its copyright status? If you made the image yourself, an easy way to deal with this is add {{gfdl}} if you're willing to release it under the GFDL. Alternatively, you could release all rights to it by adding {{NoRightsReserved}}. This would allow anyone to do whatever they wish with your image, without exceptions. However, if it isn't your own image, you need to specify what free license it was distributed under. You can find a list of the tags here. If it was not distributed under a free license, but you claim fair use, add {{fairuse}}. If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know where you got the images by posting to my talk page. If you do this, I can tag them for you. Thanks so much, Superm401 | Talk 02:30, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:View of kozani.jpg. I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag, so its copyright status is therefore unclear. Please add a tag to let us know its copyright status. (If you created/took the picture then you can use {{gfdl}} to release it under the GFDL. If you can claim fair use use {{fairuse}}.) See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have tagged them, too. Note that any unsourced and untagged imaged will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thanks so much. --Michael 07:42, 1 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Links[edit]

Hello. Many of your last edits changed working wikilinks to a redirect to a disambiguation page, which sidetracks our readers. Some of your other edits changed working links to redirects. Please check links when changing them. And please don't blindly revert. When I fixed a couple of these mistakes, you reverted me. Can I ask you to be more careful and to please use edit summaries? Any questions, don't hesitate to ask me. Thank you. Jonathunder 19:43, 15 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Please also read the policy on WP:3RR. It looks like you've gone over that on more than one page today and I'm sure you don't want to be blocked. Please take care. Jonathunder 20:55, 15 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked[edit]

Edit warring is not a valid tactic around here - I've blocked you for 24 hours for violating the three reversions limit. Please don't do it again. -- ChrisO 21:47, 15 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop adding nonsense to Wikipedia. It is considered vandalism. If you were just trying to experiment, then use the sandbox instead. Thank you.

Please stop. If you continue to vandalize pages, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia.

hello there[edit]

Please use the talk pages of the articles instead of reverting. I must tell you that I don't understand your change from "Greek Macedonia" to "Greek region of Macedonia". +MATIA 16:05, 9 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I don't understand it either - the two have the same meaning. -- ChrisO 11:27, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Vergina Sun[edit]

In case you haven't seen Jkelly's editing notice on Macedonia (Greece), could you please contribute to Talk:Macedonia (Greece) regarding the use of the Vergina Sun? If you have any information, and most importantly sources that you can cite, please add them to the discussion. -- ChrisO 22:40, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Makedonas. As ChrisO said, we need citations (aka proofs) that the flag was used. I remember that it was used during the 1980s, but I haven't found something yet. I don't think it was used by Demos Thessalonikis, so it would either be Nomarchia or the Ministry of Macedonia-Thrace. If you find anything that might be useful please leave a note at Talk:Macedonia (Greece) +MATIA 22:22, 12 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

+MATIA 17:10, 14 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Μήπως να κρατήσουμε μόνο μία ή δύο, πχ την Image:Prefecture of Kozani.jpg; Αν ναι, να παρακαλέσω κάποιον αντμίν να σβήσει τις υπόλοιπες; +MATIA 18:22, 14 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Images uploaded[edit]

Hi. I understand that you recently uploaded some images to Wikipedia. I would appreciate it if you would state what license they are under. If you are, as the author, releasing them under the GFDL, I would appreciate it if you could indicate that on the pictures' description page. Please feel free to ask me any questions that you might have about this. Jkelly 18:18, 14 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

As I said before he left me a message in greek. I had asked him if he could take some photos the other day and today he replied: "Well, I took those at the Prefecture of Kozani. I don't know if they'll fit. I waited for a quarter (of an hour) for the wind to blow..." And I believe he releases them under GFDL-self. +MATIA 18:22, 14 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Macedonia (Greece)[edit]

Stop reverting the article or you will break the 3RR rule and be blocked from Wikipedia. The "Macedonians" part has aleady been discussed in the talk page, and now with your edits, the note in the article does not make sense and it is implying false referencing on the authors. -Macedonia

Totally disputed tag at Macedonia (Greece)[edit]

Please do not keep undoing other people's edits without discussing them first. This is considered impolite and unproductive. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia under the three-revert rule, which states that nobody may revert an article to a previous version more than three times in 24 hours. (Note: this also means editing the page to reinsert an old edit. If the effect of your actions is to revert back, it qualifies as a revert.) Thank you. Jkelly 21:46, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

NikoSilver 14:36, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Slavic Macedonians[edit]

Macedonas, Thanks for the sympathetic words. I have some interest in this issue because I am 1/2 of Greek descent and born in Athens. As I said, I live in Quebec where there is also an ethnic issue.

Greece's linguistic minorities, Slavs, Arvanites, Vlachoi, are well integrated, and most of them are proud to be Greeks. This is similar to Alsace: Alsatians are proud to be French because historically, France has represented the republican values of Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité. They speak a German dialect that is slowly disappearing.

Things in Greece are complicated by the Greek Civil War 1945-48 when many Slav-speaking Greeks sided with the Communists. There are also many (several hundres of thousands?) like User:Macedonia who left Greece. (You may have noted that Macedonia's ancestors "[...] have always referred to themselves as Macedonians or local natives, they were ντόπιοι, they spoke ντόπια). It is understandable that these expatriates perpetuate resentments born from events in the 20's and 30's and during the Civil War.

Let me give you another analogy: After Germany lost WWI, Upper Silesia came under allied administration. The allied organized a census, including the question: What is your native language. A majority answered "Polish. (see First_Silesian_Uprising. A few years later, when there was a referendum to decide about the future of the region, a majority voted for Germany. In fact, many inhabitants of Upper Silesia spoke Polish at home, were catholics like the Poles, but were using German in public and regarded themselves as Germans. When you read the article you will notice that there is some controversy there, too.

All the best, Andreas 17:10, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hm. I understand the objection. There are some items in the "Did You Know?" section that are referencing events in Greece and not distinguishing between the region and the modern country. On the other hand, this is in Portal: space, and is not really subject to the same processes as article editing. I'd suggest just letting it go, at least for now. There is still so much work to be done with the articles that I am not sure that worrying about Portal-space projects is the most productive way to spend editing time. I notice that you also left a note at User talk:ChrisO. I will be curious to see what his response is, and likely defer to it. Jkelly 03:25, 1 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bitola vs Monastiri[edit]

I changed the opening paragraph of the Bitola article regarding its name, but I would like to ask you for your opinion, since you have worked in the Florina region. Do Greeks from Florina refer to this town today as Bitola or as Monastiri, for example when they go shopping there? Admittedly, your personal experience will not count in this context because of the no original research policy, but it is still a starting point to decide whether Monastiri is a former name or a Greek name of the town. Andreas 16:14, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Some personal questions[edit]

Please excuse my curiosity. I am wondering why you decided to study in Bulgaria, and if there are many Greeks studying there. I have read some stories of strengthening ties between Greece and its Northern neighbours after the breakup of the Eastern block. Are there also Bulgarians or people from RoM studying in Greece? Another question that I have is: did you understand or speak Ntopia before you went to Bulgaria?

In a web site on a dance festival in the Florina region [2] I read that people were listening to Radio Skopje, especially to popular music. So just listening to the radio it would be evident to everyone in the region that the language is the same on both sides of the border. I guess that the old woman you wrote about that was surprised that people in Bitola spoke the same language did never listen to Rodio Skopje. Greetings, Andreas 16:14, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please help[edit]

Hi Makedonas. I was wondering if you could please help me out on the Adana page. Some Turkish editor wants to remove the Greek name and a paragraph about the Adana massacre. Thanks. --Khoikhoi 02:35, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  3. Επιλέγεις edit this page από πάνω.

Image Tagging Image:Say FYROM.PNG[edit]

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Say FYROM.PNG. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an arguement why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Jkelly 18:24, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Look what happened at the Banitsa disambig page [6]. There is already a Vevi page that describes the village. Andreas 14:20, 24 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Say_FYROM.PNG to Wikipedia. I have noticed that the file was previously deleted due to missing source information. The last time you uploaded the image, you marked it as a fair use political poster. Now you claim that you have made it yourself. So which one is it?

I have listed the image at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images. Unless the its copyright status can be verified, it may be deleted. Regards, Mike Rosoft 13:56, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
