Huh?

As is well known, I think Trump's an idiot and his policies an affront to decency and common sense, but how in the world do you come up with delete (or, indeed, anything else) as the outcome to WP:Miscellany_for_deletion/User:Broter/Ban_on_Muslim_immigration? While we're not supposed to call other editors assholes, if they want to advertise themselves as assholes, I really don't see why we should be stopping them. EEng 14:39, 29 May 2017 (UTC)

Ping. EEng 18:01, 8 June 2017 (UTC)
EEng#s. I'm sorry I thought you were pissed off at me and that this was a rhetorical question. I think that policy allowed for the deletion. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 19:20, 8 June 2017 (UTC)
I wasn't angry at you; when I'm angry at you you'll know it. I was, however, annoyed at what I consider (and, as you saw in the ensuing discussion, just about everyone else considers) your overanxious interpretation of BLP. Anyway, all of that happened after I left my OP here.
You say "policy allowed for deletion"; that's just another way of saying "I decided it should be deleted" without really explaining anything. Since when do we delete userboxes that express run-of-the-mill political beliefs, even ones we (as individual editors) might consider foolish or even offensive? We certainly don't delete userboxes that express things like "I believe in protecting the rights of immigrants" or something like that. I really want to know how policy calls for one to be deleted and the other left to remain. Certainly nothing explaining that was offered in the deletion debate, which brings me back to the question of how you could have arrived at the close you made. Seems to me that at best it's no consensus. EEng 16:50, 9 June 2017 (UTC)
EEng#s It was covered in Wikipedia:Userboxes#Content restrictions. And if you want to MfD any userbox, including the ones on my talk page, I will certainly give proper consideration. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 17:18, 9 June 2017 (UTC)
I have no interest in having any of your userboxes deleted, not that I've looked at them. You are applying the same overbroad interpretation that earned you such criticism in the other matter on which our paths recently crossed (see User_talk:EEng#BLP_violation_at_WP:ANI). User pages, and userboxes in particular, have always been allowed more latitude in the expression of social and political views than would be acceptable elsewhere in the project, and by applying this interpretation you're simply going to alienate a succession of editors for no good reason. Pinging a couple of level heads who may be able to explain this to you better than I've been able to: Tryptofish, David Eppstein, Mandruss. EEng 18:02, 9 June 2017 (UTC)
The existence of bad stuff does not justify the retention of other bad stuff, and we can't fix everything at the same time; that's part of the idea behind WP:OSE. Had I known of the MfD discussion I would have !voted Delete per Wikipedia:Userboxes#Content restrictions bullet 3: "Userboxes must not be inflammatory or divisive." (emphasis theirs). If I became aware of an MfD for a userbox on the other side of the same inflammatory and divisive issue, I would likewise !vote Delete there. What's inflammatory and divisive is necessarily a judgment call, but this case seems clear enough; you don't get much more inflammatory and divisive than this issue.
The close doesn't seem improper to me. It merely demonstrated that consensus is about strength of arguments, not numbers.
So much for my "level head"! ―Mandruss  18:28, 9 June 2017 (UTC)
Perhaps I should have said blockhead?[FBDB] But your opinion is valued anyway. Now, what about the userbox here: "In support of the Karen National Union and their ongoing struggle against genocide." Is that OK because fighting genocide is a "good thing", while a Muslim ban is a "bad thing" (and you know how I actually feel about that fool Trump and his policies). Pinging Blade of the Northern Lights, since I'm dragging his userbox in, it being the most saintly one I could think of. EEng 19:30, 9 June 2017 (UTC) And no, calling Trump a fool in this discussion is not a BLP violation.)
EEng#s Fixing your ping to The Blade of the Northern Lights. And no I didn't see that remark as a BLP as you were expressing your opinion. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 19:38, 9 June 2017 (UTC)
If I became aware of an MfD for that one, I would probably !vote Keep because it is not sufficiently inflammatory or divisive to be deleted. Karen National Union is not a frequent topic on the home page of The New York Times, and I would include it on the long list of things that I'm too busy to care about. But I don't care to get any deeper into hypotheticals. ―Mandruss  19:47, 9 June 2017 (UTC)
Well, I'm going to push the point just a bit more. Certainly this is in the headlines:
This user supports the independence of Palestine.
OK? Not OK? EEng 19:55, 9 June 2017 (UTC)
I'm responding to the ping. It's difficult for me to give a clear opinion, because I cannot see the now-deleted userbox for myself. I've always found CambridgeBayWeather to be a reasonable and clueful colleague. I've read the MfD, and I would probably have relisted it for further discussion instead of making a decision one way or the other, but that's me. I think that the example about Palestine that EEng put here is perfectly fine, and I would feel very negatively about any proposal to delete it. Speaking in general (and of course the devil is in the details), I tend to believe that editors should be given wide berth on what userboxes they have on their own userpages, except that this should not go so far as to permit anything that is intended to insult or defame other users or non-public eye non-editors. Expressions of political opinion, if volunteered freely, should be permitted. --Tryptofish (talk) 23:43, 9 June 2017 (UTC)

Tryptofish: Thanks for taking the trouble, and I think you see my concern. The userbox being discussed in the MfD linked in my OP here said (from memory): "This editor supports a ban on Muslim immigration". EEng 23:57, 9 June 2017 (UTC)

Thanks. Oh, bleep. My gut reaction is a very strong WP:IDONTLIKEIT, so I'm having to check my gut reaction. It steps right up to the line of what I described as insulting others. But no, we should not censor that. I think a useful test is what we would do if it said, instead, this editor opposes such a ban. Of course, that's technically a violation of the rule that boxes should support instead of oppose things, but I would make an exception given the context. I doubt anyone would have brought that one to MfD, and we should not try to have it both ways. --Tryptofish (talk) 00:04, 10 June 2017 (UTC)

Protection removal request for Tekmill

Hi CambridgeBayWeather, I noticed that Tekmill was create protected by you on 1st December 2016. I'm requesting you to kindly remove the protection as I want to create a page for him. He is a notable artist and since December 2016, has received several coverage articles in Turkish media. Some of the publishers covering him are Olay newspaper, Londra newspaper and Avrupa newspaper. I can provide you the hard copies upon request. Thank you, Tekmillion (talk) 21:12, 29 May 2017 (UTC)

Tekmillion. A better idea would be to create Draft:Tekmill and see if that passes. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 21:52, 29 May 2017 (UTC)

Vivid Entertainment

Before you put protection on the article entitled Vivid Entertainment for alleged edit warring, did you read the talk section concerning the portion of the article that Hullaballoo Wolfowitz keeps removing? He cites a different reason each time he vandalizes the segment regarding historical Vivid Girls, and refuses to engage in constructive discussion, actually ANY discussion. First he cited the segment as unsourced, but the segment was clearly well sourced. Then he claimed it was publicity. Then he claimed it was merely a laundry list. Wikipedia has so many instances of lists of historical persons. He has NEVER claimed the information re "Vivid Girls" was inaccurate or irrelevant. He is just personally opposed to having the information in the article. Furthermore, I have NEVER seen any editor have so many complaints against him, all of which he and you administrators IGNORE. He is one of the reasons I would never contribute any money to Wikipedia. Anonymous editors without any formal knowledge of the subject and editing ruin so many good articles. I thought you would at least review and contact the parties, but instead you just protected the article without good cause. Under what authority did YOU protect the article? 2601:989:4200:BAA2:5912:EBF7:708A:C30A (talk) 05:37, 5 June 2017 (UTC)

Protection of Malcolm Nance

Thank you for the protection of Malcolm Nance.

But now I can't edit the page to improve it.

What we have here is not a content dispute, but a few editors violating WP:BLP, against consensus, to engage in disruptive editing.

There's gotta be a better way to deal with that than full-protecting the page.

Maybe you could add

{{Ds/editnotice|1=1RR|topic=ap}}

to the talk page?

And could you also add it to Template:Editnotices/Page/Malcolm Nance, as can be seen for example, at Template:Editnotices/Page/Russian interference in the 2016 United States elections ?

Unidentified file

Greetings! A user here has been adding an original research caption to a skull, whose file source does not specify the ethnicity/clan or place of exhumation of the cranium. It just indicates in the original Hausa that it is kasusuwan mutum [1], which translates as "the bones of a man" [2]. The file was just renamed accordingly for that reason [3]. Can you please therefore remove this unidentified file? Kind Regards-- Soupforone (talk) 15:35, 18 June 2017 (UTC)

Soupforone Someone reverted already. I have warned the user about OR and opened a section on the article talk page. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 16:18, 18 June 2017 (UTC)
Soupforone The place of exhumation is Berbera, Somaliland as mentioned in source [4] "The research team of science have used the shovel to evacuate the tomb and buried many people in the town of Barbera in Somaliland.", as for the ethnicity/clan it clearly states they were Isaaq "But these people are ethnic Isaaq." Your edit warring and labelling as 'unidentified skull' was unwarranted, and your request for removal of categories and replacement with 'fossils' is particularly disruptive [5]. --Kzl55 (talk) 16:59, 18 June 2017 (UTC)

Requesting unprotection of Cricket World Cup

Hello CambridgeBayWeather, hope you are doing well. As you were the last admin to protect Cricket World Cup, hence I would like to request you to please remove the indefinite move protection of the article from sysop to none because this protection was applied several years ago and is no longer required and necessary. Thank you. TheGeneralUser (talk) 18:38, 18 June 2017 (UTC)

Hello Thomas, protection is applied to any page to stop disruption to it. In this case, there is no such disruption and hence it is not required. TheGeneralUser (talk) 18:56, 18 June 2017 (UTC)
@TheGeneralUser: I know why pages are protected, unlike you I also know that there are users who love to move cricket pages, and add ICC in front of the name, even though the common name is, and always has been, just "Cricket World Cup" (with Special:Contributions/MOTORAL1987 being one). So the only reason Cricket World Cup still has the name that is in common use, is that editors can't move it... - Tom | Thomas.W talk 20:07, 18 June 2017 (UTC)
I do agree with your reasoning, but consensus can change and every page can't be move protected in the same way. Protection should not be an endorsement for a current name or page version. TheGeneralUser (talk) 20:24, 18 June 2017 (UTC)
As far as I can tell all of the many page moves that have taken place over the past few days, all adding ICC in front of the name, have been undiscussed moves, the kind of moves that move protection is intended to protect against... - Tom | Thomas.W talk 20:33, 18 June 2017 (UTC)
{{u|TheGeneralUser}] as Thomas.W says WP:Requested moves would have been good place to start. You could have also asked Nev1 who was the original protecting admin and still active. Until they express an opinion I will not change it. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 20:56, 18 June 2017 (UTC)
TheGeneralUser CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 16:06, 19 June 2017 (UTC)
Thank you for the ping CambridgeBayWeather. Sorry for the slow reply, it's a while since I logged in. On the whole indefinite protection of any kind should be used sparingly, and I admit if a new user hadn't recently renamed a few articles without discussion I'd be more inclined to remove the protection. However, at the moment my feeling is that move protection is appropriate as the page gets a lot of traffic (getting between 40,000 and 90,000 readers a month in what might be considered the off-season) and it means that anyone who wants to move it has to go through the requested moves process and gain consensus. Nev1 (talk) 10:58, 26 June 2017 (UTC)
Nev1. Thanks. That was my felling as well. I'll leave it and if the user starts a discussion and consensus is to move then that's different. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 14:08, 26 June 2017 (UTC)

Request that you vacate wrongful block

Hi there. A while back you blocked me for allegedly using a sockpuppet. I don't know what the basis for your mistaken assumption was, but I have never used another account nor edited while logged out. Thus I request you vacate the block, clean out my block log appropriately, and post an apology on my talk page. Thanks. Factchecker_atyourservice 23:51, 28 June 2017 (UTC)

First things first, though. Before you vacate the block and post the apology, I would appreciate if you could point me to anything anywhere on Wikipedia that would explain what actions you took and why. I don't see a link to any discussion and as a matter of fact it appears nobody ever notified me any discussion was taking place. Seems like a rancid abuse of process. Factchecker_atyourservice 23:53, 28 June 2017 (UTC)
Factchecker_atyourservice. I am not sure what you mean by "vacate the block". I can't clean a block log. And what would I apologise for? Also see Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Factchecker atyourservice/Archive. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 03:25, 29 June 2017 (UTC)
What would you apologize for? How about blocking me for somebody else's tomfoolery based on laughable premises? Factchecker_atyourservice 23:14, 29 June 2017 (UTC)
I don't think so. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 23:58, 29 June 2017 (UTC)

Slim Jxmmi

Hi,

Noticed you reversed the changes on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slim_Jxmmi. You may be unfamiliar but Slim Jxmmi is one half of Rae Sremmurd and brother of Swae Lee. He is one of the most popular rap group out right now and is responsible for the 2016 smash hit 'Black Beatles'. Further, he will be releasing a solo album in the upcoming months. Please do not remove the page again.

thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sukhvirlam (talkcontribs) 03:39, 1 July 2017 (UTC)

Sukhvirlam. No I didn't, look again. I protected the page and made no edits based on content. Others changed it into a redirect. I will point out that being a member of a group does not in itself confer notability. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 03:49, 1 July 2017 (UTC)

Regarding Recent Full Protection Action

I noticed that CambridgeBayWeather recently took bold action to WP:Full the article Francesca Ramsey due to the recent content disputes since VidCon. I wanted to suggest that you might consider Full Protection of Anita Sarkeesian. Evidence of the need for this action is here and throughout that pages recent history. Thanks in advance for any consideration! - Sleyece 00:29:53, July 4, 2017 (UTC)

OK. It looks like there is close to consensus on the talk page so just a couple of days. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 00:47, 4 July 2017 (UTC)

Anita Sarkeesian

Can you please explain why you protected Anita Sarkeesian, a page which had not been edited in nearly 29 hours? Mark Schierbecker (talk) 10:28, 4 July 2017 (UTC)

Mark Schierbecker. It looked like a minor edit war and an incomplete discussion on the talk page. See section above. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 12:35, 4 July 2017 (UTC)
I request that this action be reversed immediately. Full protection is an extreme overreaction to just three reverts. Mark Schierbecker (talk) 00:09, 5 July 2017 (UTC)
Mark Schierbecker. OK but keep an eye on it. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 00:16, 5 July 2017 (UTC)
Thank you! Mark Schierbecker (talk) 00:38, 5 July 2017 (UTC)

Btw, you removed the indefinite page-move protection - {{pp-move-indef}} - that predated your recent protection.... maybe that should be restored? Shearonink (talk) 01:18, 5 July 2017 (UTC)

Yes, autoconfirmed and move protection need to be retired. IPs are already after the page.--Cúchullain t/c 12:07, 6 July 2017 (UTC)

Malliya Rechana, Kavijanasrayam

I believe you had blocked me and Abrahmad111 few days back. I have a question. Abrahmad111 is constantly fooling and undoing and removing much older and antique (The Indian Antiquary) research references in order to attribute a poet to his region rather than sticking to the history. I have kept his references (which are mostly a thesis and individual writings unlike The Indian Antiquary) and only removed his unreferenced personal theories but he has been removing all my referenced info to put forth only his theories. Now he removed my content and writes one has to stick to the old style. This fellow creates duplicate pages and vandalizes pages to put forth his theories. He is not able to bear if I keep the theories in chronological order and removes the old theories which do not attribute the work or the poet to his homeplace. Unlike him I am trying to keep both theories but he keeps the newer theories and adds his personal theories as well. What do you advise? I am going to wait for your advise. Thanks SubhashiniIyer (talk) 12:01, 7 July 2017 (UTC)

I am very sorry CambridgeBayWeather, I do not know how else to fix the article. I have added all the historical theories in a balanced chronological manner. Nothing is written in stone about this subject. Some people who are of biased nature are trying to claim the subject to their region without showing the historical debates and the controversial nature of the subject. I will wait and see for now. Please do advise. Thank you SubhashiniIyer (talk) 22:31, 9 July 2017 (UTC)

List of Canadian provincial and territorial symbols

Hi CambridgeBayWeather. Would you mind checking this edit you made to List of Canadian provincial and territorial symbols? It looks like the three images you removed were all from Commons. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:30, 9 July 2017 (UTC)

Marchjuly. Thanks. That's strange because when I checked the first time they were the non-free files. Fixed it. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 05:24, 9 July 2017 (UTC)
Non-free images which are continously re-added to an article after they have been removed sometimes starts me thinking in terms of patterns instead of individual edits, especially if the same editor is doing the re-adding. So, when that person deviates from the pattern and actually adds a free image instead, it can be easy for me to just react the same as before unless I remind myself to actually check the file each time. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:16, 10 July 2017 (UTC)

caution, or maybe block is in order

Hi,
My health is not well at all at the moment. So please excuse my message for being concise and vague. You had not so recently blocked two users for 24h. They never stopped fighting. Now they have escalated to mild personal attacks, and comments about each-other's nations. It is very serious as it is India-Pak. I didnt realise it sooner cuz I have been unable to follow my watchlist due to my falling (degrading/deteriorating) health. Kindly take a look at the matter. Talk:Malliya Rechana. Thanks. —usernamekiran(talk) 21:49, 9 July 2017 (UTC)

Oh my God, usernamekiran, seriously brother your health is too much deteriorated otherwise you would not call a debate on an author and authorship and his association with some regions within India as some fictional intercountry thing that you wrote. This is purely an Indian subject and you need not worry too much. Wow! SubhashiniIyer (talk) 03:11, 10 July 2017 (UTC)

Summit Airlines question

Hi, not really a Wiki contributor, so not sure if i am doing this right. But https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Summit_Air&type=revision&diff=739594288&oldid=738767665 you edited the ICAO code in the above entry .... I just need to know where you got that specific piece of info. Since ICAO codes are always 3chars long .... and further more "SU" is used by a Russian Airline, so something does not add up. From what is see in other sources "SMM" is still the correct ICAO for Summit. let me know thnx SebU — Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.20.26.130 (talk) 15:28, 14 July 2017 (UTC)

It seems that I can't find a source for either SMM or SU. I removed it for two reasons. One I can't find anything to source it with and a look at List of airline codes (S) shows that the SMM is for a US based airline called Summit Airlines with a call sign of "SUMMIT-AIR" rather than "SUMMIT". I'm not sure why you get logged out. It used to happen quite often but that was years ago. You could ask at WP:Village pump/Technical as they might know. The Planespotters link may be correct but it might not. I recall that it was not a reliable source for fleet size. Notice that Planespotters has a fleet size of 9 but Transport Canada has 19 aircraft. Not sure about the other link. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 20:07, 14 July 2017 (UTC)

Protection decline for 2017 Jobar offensive

Regarding your reasoning that there has not been enough disruptive activity to justify protection I will list all of the disruptive edits. In three days there has been: four removals of sourced info by IP editors [6][7][8][9] (possibly same person, with highly non-neutral edit summaries), one removal by an apparent single-purpose account [10], two additions of unsourced information by two IP editors [11][12] (one being with apparent non-neutral wording). If you are still of the opinion that this isn't enough then I will not push the matter further. Thank you for your time! Cheers! EkoGraf (talk) 10:38, 20 July 2017 (UTC)

Pahlevun. It's a BLP and you removed several references. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 12:48, 24 July 2017 (UTC)
That's not an adequate explanation. Are you able to prove that these references were legit? Pahlevun (talk) 12:53, 24 July 2017 (UTC)
No but if you remove the three of them then all the statements they support must be removed as well. Are you saying they don't support what is said? CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 12:56, 24 July 2017 (UTC)
One of the three sources is not accessible at all. Of the remaining two, one is an op-ed, which is not even published by a reliable source and the other, which is in English, cites the claims he made in the court, which is presented as a fact in the article. Clearly WP:SYNTH. Pahlevun (talk) 13:10, 24 July 2017 (UTC)

Request for Reprotecting the page Arijit Singh

Hello This is to inform you to, that your protection of the page Arijit Singh is expired but the vandalism is going on by editor Umair Aj. They are deleting references and damaging formatting and removing attributed contents which are not WP:PEACOCKING. It seems they strong dislike the singer and are also deleting contents on the song's article sung by him placing tags and taking it into Afd's etc. Although the article Arijit Singh's formatting and structure has been damage due to vandalism by the editor but I do not intend to revert those back, as it will create editing conflicts. I am not here to fall in conflicts, I am here only to contribute as much as I can by reviewing new pages, adding new well sourced contents on existing pages, creating articles, Participating at Afd and other important stuffs. Currently I am also busy due to real life commitments. I hope you will counter vandalism as you have lot of more experience than me. Human factors and ergonomics

You previously fully protected this article to stop the edit-warring: Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/3RRArchive346#User:RickyBennison_reported_by_User:Ronz_.28Result:_Protected.29

RickyBennison has finally responded now that the protection is ended and I undid his revert when he ignored the talk page discussion. He is threatening to continue edit-warring [13]. I was going to request that full protection be restored, but thought it might be better to see what you think. --Ronz (talk) 17:54, 30 July 2017 (UTC)

Ronz The protection expired on 27 July and RickyBennison hasn't edited it in that time. For now it should be fine. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 20:45, 30 July 2017 (UTC)
Thanks. You're correct. The page protection didn't get him to participate in building consensus, so it probably won't again. If he continues his edit-warring without further discussion, I'll request he be blocked once again. Meanwhile, I'll try other methods of resolving the issue. --Ronz (talk) 21:18, 30 July 2017 (UTC)

NBA Playgrounds

Hello,

Regarding the censoring of the page by some individuals and their abuse of the Wikipedia system to stop me from providing a vital piece of information. The game does not allow offline play (on PS4) as it requires a constant internet connection and there are many complaints on the games official forums with acknowledgment from the developers that they might address this issue in the future.

As for the these individuals asking for a source, then by that logic the entire "Gameplay" section must be removed from the Wikipedia page as there is no source to that as well.

Thank you for protecting this page, but please add this important piece of information as people are paying $20 and are shocked that the game does not function in single player without a constant connection on the PS4. I am trying to help others avoid a problem by providing essential information before heir purchase. Any attempt to delete that data would be viewed as censorship.

This is one such complaint from he official game forum and an acknowledgment from the developers of the issue:

Alt-Right Footer Template - Should Donald Trump be here?

Hi Cambridge, hope all is well for you at the moment. In light of Washington Post's article on Trump being an alt-right figure, I've originally added him on the template for the alt-right footer. However, DarkKing Rayleigh reverted the footer. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, but I'm concerned undoing his edit would trigger an edit war. Would you mind adding a third opinion so the page won't end up spiraling into an edit war? Thanks! Nexenhero91 (talk) 23:20, 17 August 2017 (UTC)

Nexenhero91. I have no opinion on him being alt-right or not. It's a good job you didn't revert because at Template talk:Alt-right footer it says that the page is subject to one revert per 24 hour period. The talk page is where you should now be taking this. I looked at the the NYT piece. It looks like an editorial/opinion piece. Also it does not seem to me to flat out say he is alt-right but that, as per the headline, he sides with them. Louise Linton page

Hi

You appear to have locked the Louise Linton article for excessive editing, which is fairly accurate as some of the ongoing edits were extremely biased and opinion based.

It has been locked, however, AFTER considerable 'positive' washing by what appears to be an individual or organisation positively managing Ms Linton's media profile.

The controversies section has been removed entirely (this has been in place since 2016) as well as all reference to negative media coverage and source links regarding the recent Instagram controversy. It appears that the relevant sections have been redrafted to positively reflect and diminish the negative coverage of yesterday's media event.

Yesterday's Instagram controversy gained extensive international media coverage, mostly neutral to negative, similar to the coverage regarding her withdrawn memoir.

I believe the current article needs editing to reflect both sides of the recent event, not just Ms Linton's PR perspective.

kind regards — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fjb3012 (talkcontribs) 22:46, 22 August 2017 (UTC)

Need your help to protect the article

Greetings, dear sir. I'm asking you to protect the following page, as it is being attacked by an anonymous user ([14]), who is waging an edit war there (and who has already violated the three-revert rule) in an effort to replace an interpretation accepted by scholars and supported by reliable sources with his own historical revisionism taken from thin air. The user ignores any sources cited in the article, as well as a warning left on his talk page, labels everything he doesn't like as "dogwhistle" and "propaganda". Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Jayden222

Hi CambridgeBayWeather. A while back you closed Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Jayden222 as delete. I think the same editor is back as User talk:Jayden27572, and I think there may be a few more "JaydenXXXX" accounts out there as well I removed some images from per WP:NFCC#9 . I usually just remove the file, but for some reason this time around I made the connection between the latest sandbox and that particular MfD discussion. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:17, 28 August 2017 (UTC)

I can't remember right now what the other accounts were; it's possible they weren't even Jayden accounts to begin with. I do remember removing similar Big Brother logos from user pages which were similar in content to the Jayden pages though, so maybe one of them will pop up on my watchlist again. -- Marchjuly (talk) 10:50, 28 August 2017 (UTC)
Thanks. Let me know if you do find any more. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 10:57, 28 August 2017 (UTC)
I see this has been dealt with. I'll just note that many of these Big Brother fantasy game players do the same thing. they copy an existing Big Brother article to their user space and then modify it so it can be really difficult to identify if they various accounts are sockpuppet accounts or different people paying games teh same way. -- Whpq (talk) 14:08, 29 August 2017 (UTC)

Myrobotlab is not a business or a commercial enterprise. It is a technology resource created by developers, for developers as well as learners and is a valuable educational tool. Myrobotlab has been in use and development for at least five years and is administered by a team of skilled developers who continually provide their own time to develop the resource for people all around the world.

In terms of the impact of Myrobotlab, it is the principle platform used by Gael Langevin, the creator of the inMoov humanoid android robot, in the world's first, life-sized, 3D-printed humanoid robot. Gael is also one of the developers of the Myrobotlab platform and he actively uses and promotes the Myrobotlab robotics platform. As such, Myrobotlab is discussed extensively on the internet as well as at international Maker Faires where Gael presents his robots.

I am concerned that this resource is being blocked from Wikipedia when so many meaningless and pointless subjects are supported and promoted despite having no educational value, use or real interest. The Myrobotlab educational resource is already well known in the robotics community and certainly warrants community access.

I ask that you assist in fixing this issue.

Thank you, Annie Darkhorse — Preceding unsigned comment added by Annie Darkhorse (talkcontribs) 09:00, 31 August 2017 (UTC)

Dear Sir, as others have stated, myrobotlab is a robotics platform, the brain of the robotics and worldwide used in open source robotics. A few are the inmoov, designed by Gael langevin (inmoov.fr) and build by thousands. Also the automated chess board was programmed and automated with the help of myrobotlab (https://en.chessbase.com/post/world-s-smartest-chess-board-is-here).

And there are many other projects that are beeing made on universities around the world that use the myrobotlab software. If you need links to sources, and all, let us do so, and let us make the myrobotlab page. it was 2012 when it was discussed, and since then we (users and developers on myrobotlab) have made such a big impact in robotics, with the proudest our inmoov. and i say our, yes it is designed by Gael Langevin, but it was with the help from all the users, mods and owners from myrobotlab that inmoov became such a succes.

There is no way denying a full sized humanoid 3d printed robot that does ted talks, maker fairs and travels all around the world, powered by myrobotlab software.

Please let us show myrobotlab has evolved from a small single user project to a worldwide accepted and loved platform for all platforms. If after say a month you still think we do not have enough sources and quotes and links, you could delete it again, but we would be able to prove our point that what was small in 2012 is huge now.

Thank you for your time and it would be great if we could show what we have made for the entire robotics community.

Annie Darkhorse and HappilyDefinedHumanoid. I have put these two together as they are part of the same thing. There were no references in the article, see Help:Referencing for beginners for more information. The sources must be separate from the company reports. I was going to suggest, but I see that Draft:Myrobotlab is already in place. Create it there with proper source then suubmitt it. Hello, What is the purpose of continuing too leave things, part of greater Montréal, when it is not true. Why revert back for the proper spelling of Québec not Quebec?

Well Rosemère, Quebec says it is part of Montreal. Protection of Bigg Boss Telugu (season 1)

Thanks for protecting Bigg Boss Telugu season 1. Can you extend the page protection for 2 more days because all vandalism happenes mostly in weekend & Monday.Joshq.JQ 08:11, 8 September 2017 (UTC)

Invitation to Admin confidence survey

Hello,

Beginning in September 2017, the Wikimedia Foundation Anti-harassment tool team will be conducting a survey to gauge how well tools, training, and information exists to assist English Wikipedia administrators in recognizing and mitigating things like sockpuppetry, vandalism, and harassment.

The survey should only take 5 minutes, and your individual response will not be made public. This survey will be integral for our team to determine how to better support administrators.

To take the survey sign up here and we will send you a link to the form.

We really appreciate your input!

Please let us know if you wish to opt-out of all massmessage mailings from the Anti-harassment tools team.

America's Got Talent (Season 12)

I hate to be a bother but America's Got Talent (season 12) just became unprotected again and disruptive editing, test editing, and addition of unsourced material is already being done by IP editors. IP at the Jennifer's Body article

Hi, CambridgeBayWeather. As seen at Jennifer's Body (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views), an IP hopper continues to edit disruptively, removing things on a WP:IDON'TLIKEIT basis. The IP hopper has been repeatedly reverted by me, General Ization and Gladamas. After you protected the article, Anarchyte protected the article. The IP waited for the latest protection to wear off and then went back to the WP:IDON'TLIKEIT editing. Will one of you consider protecting the article for significantly longer, like for a few months? I do not see that the IP hopper will stop, and it's a waste of time for editors to keep reverting him or her. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 19:08, 17 September 2017 (UTC)

Flyer22 Reborn I gave it a month. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 20:21, 17 September 2017 (UTC)

Yes usually. Trying to find something long enough that the IP goes away. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 21:56, 17 September 2017 (UTC)
Yes, but seeing as it's only one IP hopper the protections will be increased more incrementally than if it were hit by lots of vandalism from various people. Anarchyte (work | talk) 21:57, 17 September 2017 (UTC)

Talk:Manny_Pacquiao#BLP_issues

Note that one user insists that as no BLP issues exist (?) that he can revert the deletion of what appears to be problematic material using the comment " (revert to the previous stable version, that is fully supported by reliable and verifiable sources. There are no BLP issues.) " and then editwar the removal of the material which has been questioned with "undo revert with no explanation given in summary) " which appears to me to be a problematic means of editing. He did not hit 3RR as the other re-insertion was by "IP 124.106.132.39" . Note that htree seasoned editors have removed the material as being possibly violative of WP:BLP and only one seems to reinsert it asserting that no BLP issues exist. I rather think that where three editors do see BLP issues, and only one says they do not exist, that a neutral RfC is the minimum requirement? Your view? Collect (talk) 15:50, 21 September 2017 (UTC)

Collect Well it looks like I'm a bit late here. The page is currently semied and the editor has been blocked. It really needs a proper discussion at the BLP noticeboard. The last discussion seemed more about editors complaining about each other. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 11:32, 22 September 2017 (UTC)
The real problem editor got only 48 hours - and not for the Pacquaio material. Seems a tad unequal treatment, considering the number of non-Filipinos he got blocked as "socks" in rapid fire succession. I suggest you scan the discussions a tad further as a result. Collect (talk) 13:14, 23 September 2017 (UTC)
There seems to me that there is little point in taking action until the material is put back in. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 03:03, 24 September 2017 (UTC)

Arctic weather seems bizarre

Ulukhaktok#Climate has some bizarre elements: in nine of the twelve months, the number of average precipitation days is less than the number of average rain days plus the number of average snow days. What's wrong? This doesn't seem like a rounding issue, and while I suppose I can see it being the result of rain and snow occurring on the same day, this particularly makes no sense in March and December. These months' record highs are below freezing, and there are 0.0 average rainy days in each month, yet there's 0.1 snowy day in each month not appearing in precipitation days — despite precipitation requiring 0.2 mm and snow requiring 2 mm. Shouldn't there be more precipitation than snow in the wintry months, since showing up as snowy requires ten times as much snow as showing up as precipitation does? Nyttend (talk) 02:48, 24 September 2017 (UTC)

I'm not sure. I see that it is exactly what the source says. Ulukhaktok isn't the only one. Cambridge Bay#Climate is similar. Also look at the totals for the year. 29.4 and 51.5 which = 80.9 but the source has 78.9. You might try the Wikipedia:Reference desk/Mathematics and see if they have any idea or try this. For the last sentence. The snow is collected and melted. It is measured before and after melting. So 2.0 cm of snow may equal 2.0 mm but may just as easily be 1.8 mm or 1.6 mm. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 03:45, 24 September 2017 (UTC)

Doesn't the protection policy support protecting pages under the ARBPIA restriction?

Hey, sorry to take this to your talk page, but this got archived, and I still do not understand your rationale for not protecting the page, since in your reply you specifically said that you had protected another page based solely on someone applying a very broad interpretation of ARBPIA to the Edward Said article, but the narrower one I was working with required evidence of specific disruption on the Straits of Tiran article? IPs and new accounts are not allowed edit that page anyway per WP:ARBPIA3#General Prohibition, and they have been doing so recently. Hijiri 88 (やや) 10:11, 26 September 2017 (UTC)

That said, if you want evidence of disruption rather than simply treating it as a procedural matter: here is an IP in June vandalizing the page; here is a new account (less than 500 edits) removing maintenance tags and replacing them with citations of Wikipedia articles; here is an IP in March making (what looks like?) a POV edit based on his/her personal opinion of the author of the source, which if said author was still alive would have been a BLP-violation meriting removal of the edit summary. There has been only one other non-minor edit to the page this year -- the entire page history since 2017-01-02 has been nothing but disruption by editors who shouldn't be editing the page, reverts of said disruption, and minor grammatical fixes. Hijiri 88 (やや) 10:27, 26 September 2017 (UTC)
Did you see Wikipedia talk:Requests for page protection#ARBPIA3 500/30, Wikipedia talk:Requests for page protection/Archive 9#Mass request on pages related to Arab-Israeli conflict(s) and User talk:Samsara/Archive16#2013–14 Israeli–Palestinian peace talks. However, I have protected it now. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 14:23, 26 September 2017 (UTC)

Full protection on Sexism

I think Semi would have been just fine; there were some reverts from autoconfirmed editors, but those stopped 13 hours before the protection, and the last IP or new user edit was more than week ago. ᛗᛁᛟᛚᚾᛁᚱPants Tell me all about it. 23:52, 27 September 2017 (UTC)

MjolnirPants. As the last IP edit was 18 September I would have refused the semi. If the editwarring editors decide they have a consensus then I will be more than happy to unprotect it. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 00:00, 28 September 2017 (UTC)
I don't think it's an edit war; there's a discussion at talk and another at BLPN. I think that one of the editors is pushing a BLP vio, but they don't seem inclined at all to edit war over it. But if you think full protection is a reasonable preventative measure, then I'll defer to your judgement and let you know when a consensus is reached. ᛗᛁᛟᛚᚾᛁᚱPants Tell me all about it. 00:05, 28 September 2017 (UTC)
You're probably right and neither one will edit again. But I would much rather editors were annoyed with me for the protection than have to block someone for reverting. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 00:21, 28 September 2017 (UTC)
That's an approach I know all too well, and use all too often. It's a great approach, except for the niggling fact that it usually works. ;) But I'm cool with it if you are. Pun intended, thank you (referring to your username). ᛗᛁᛟᛚᚾᛁᚱPants Tell me all about it. 01:43, 28 September 2017 (UTC)

Polar oases

Thanks for the help with the rain + snow > precipitation question. Here's another question.

What is a polar oasis? It's mentioned in the infobox image's caption at Devon Island, but I'm not sure what's meant. Just a wet spot in a polar desert? An exceptionally warm place surrounded by "ordinary" polar climates? A Google search basically just finds irrelevant stuff, especially some company by this name that sells frozen snacks from food trucks in the Kansas City metropolitan area. Nyttend (talk) 02:41, 3 October 2017 (UTC)

Nyttend. I'm not a 100% sure but it seems to be an are where the climate is milder and the ground would have more moisture than the surrounding area giving greater plant life, oasis. As the polar desert points out most of the Arctic has little precipitation but the Truelove Lowlands has a "favourable microclimate". I did find some references to polar oasis but they tended to be about plant/animal life in that area(Truelove Lowlands, "polar oasis" define), what is a polar oasis). Alexandra Fiord and Svalbard (Svalbard – A Polar Oasis by Wayne Lynch) are given as polar oasis. I did find Antarctic oasis but nothing really useful. By the way Devon Island seems to be the only mention on Wikipedia ("polar oasis").
Thank you. This is somewhat like I was imagining with "an exceptionally warm place...", although I wasn't expecting that greater moisture would also be involved. Do we have a good article explaining why the poles are deserts? I'm not clear if it's related to the ice cover (i.e. sublimation produces less water vapor than evaporation does, and thus it's not possible for as much precipitation to fall), or if it's more related to the prevailing winds and thus analogous to the deserts in the Horse latitudes, or if there's some other cause. Nyttend (talk) 00:17, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
I'm not sure why the Arctic has little precipitation and polar climate doesn't seem to help. Although we seem to have a lot of freshwater. Right now I'm at work and Internet is dial up speed and can't really look off Wikipedia. Some links you may find interesting. Compare the precipitation at Cambridge Bay#Climate and Phoenix, Arizona#Climate and then use something like Google Earth to compare the amount of visible water around Cambridge to Phoenix. Also Polynya and the North Water Polynya are interesting. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 00:49, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
It basically comes down to the Clausius-Clapeyron equation. Saturation vapor pressure is approximately an exponential function of temperature. Therefore, in a cold climate there is relatively little moisture in the air that will be available to condense out as rain or snow. User:Nyttend's point about saturation vapor pressure over ice being lower than over liquid also is relevant for some circumstances.
The Arctic is a "desert" in the sense that annual precipitation is less than 250 mm over much of the region (though it is considerably higher in some locations, such as coastal Greenland). That's a fairly commonly used criterion for "desert" but it's a rather arbitrary one. Arguably a more meaningful functional definition is whether precipitation is much less than potential evapotranspiration, for example as used in defining dry (B-type) climates in the Koeppen climate classification scheme. By this measure the fraction of the Arctic covered by desert would be much smaller. Shock Brigade Harvester Boris (talk) 04:10, 4 October 2017 (UTC)

Small request

Hi, it is too small a thing to take to admin noticeboard for now, but following WP:3RR and WP:BRD could you suggest user TechnicianGB to edit constructively, discuss on talk page to reach consensus with editors he is in conflict with and self-revert following his violation of 3RR rule in 24 hours here:

I have asked him myself, but it would be great for you to encourage him to follow proper procedures when attempting to unilaterally change an article. I am personally not involved in the edit dispute. Farangizsaifi (talk) 11:27, 4 October 2017 (UTC)

Farangizsaifi. I see that you and TechnicianGB have posted on your talk pages and Talk:African admixture in Europe which is good. Right now they can't revert because I fully protected it. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 11:33, 4 October 2017 (UTC)

I just warned today this user for breaking the 3RR rule and to check the sources for a constructive edition on the page and now it's accusing me of doing it, lol. I'm telling him that the 3 RR doesn't count for self reversions or for reversions of 3rd party anonymous IPs but he is just in the "this is my version mood" and doesn't want to hear nothing.

After those 3 reversions I warned him and then I proposed the page for protection:

I also warned him and he started this senseless discussion blaming me for breaking the rules... this user is pretty new and i'm sure that he has to read a bit better about the rules, as he blamed me before for "breaking the self reversion rule" which is clearly stated that a self reversion does not enter in a 3 RR reversion.

He is also neither editing constructively editing the page, as he is putting changes which contradict the source'. in that African admixture page. I'm just writing things which are mentioned on the sources and below, as those things are not mentioned on any source and he claims that it's a stable version, which was posted months ago by an anonymous IP. --TechnicianGB (talk) 11:42, 4 October 2017 (UTC)

CambridgeBayWeather, TechnicianGB: I am not involved in this nor do I aim to become involved in his content dispute with another editor. My only role here has been asking for discussion on talk upon coming across the edit war initated by this editor who disliked the stable version. I have just noticed a breach of procedure TechnicianGB reverting 4 times in 24 hours (EXCLUDING self-reverts - that would make it 5 or 6 as can be seen from his edit history). I also note that it is bad faith to initiate an edit war with another editor to change a stable version and upon the 4th revert to request for the page to be protected to the version he is trying to push through against the stable version. CambridgeBayWesther, I know that there is a rule regarding WP:WRONGVERSION, but I request that when the protection expires, you or TechnicianGB revert it to its original stable version (which has remained for a number of months) and encourage discussion on talk page as per WP:BRD). This is my understanding of Wikipedia rules - note I have avoided taking these breaches to noticeboard - I hate wasting the time of administrators. TechnicianGB as you know I have tried to reason with you as cordially as possible. Rules are there to be followed. Best regards,Farangizsaifi (talk) 11:57, 4 October 2017 (UTC)

That page didn't have a stable version! Those changes were made by anonymous IP users which made a few changes on the page and then never appeared back. Nevermind, we are amending it. That wasn't backed up by the source so it's senseless to revert again to that version. It's as simply as that, if a source can't back up the text (or says different things) then that text has to been removed, as in this case we have lots of sources there and no one says or shows "southern" or "western" but specific places, which you were reverting.

It's not hard to understand, you were reverting good edits based on sources to edits which are not backed on sources. Nevermind again, the admins took care of the issue to see which are factual sources or not. Senseless to continue this ! --TechnicianGB (talk) 12:05, 4 October 2017 (UTC)

TechnicianGB The version has been stable since 2015. That is 2 years. Please self-revert as soon as you can and discuss proposed edits on talk page. You are in breach of WP:BRD, WP:3RR and WP:STABLE. CambridgeBayWeather I'm not sure whether I should take this to admin noticeboard. It is a violation of 3 Wikipedia rules in one go, which is pretty serious. Farangizsaifi (talk) 12:14, 4 October 2017 (UTC)

@Farangizsaifi: 1st of all, you broke the 3RR, the WP:BRD and the sources were not backing up the text !!! there is no stable version in this case, as it's false information. What is hard to understand for you ? Facepalm Facepalm I already did the job, I proposed it for protection and the admis are taking care of it. What do you want more ? Your accusations against me are very weak and they haven't got any backup as i'm just sticking to edit factual information and deleting false one which is not mentioned in any source... --TechnicianGB (talk) 12:18, 4 October 2017 (UTC)

I even let a new message in your talk page considering that this discussion is resolved? But I see that you are still in your "I don't hear mood". Ok, for me the discussion is over. Admins are taking care to check sources and data... --TechnicianGB (talk) 12:19, 4 October 2017 (UTC)

In June, you added 30/500 protection to Malcolm Nance. I don't think that is necessary any longer, can you decrease it to semi-protection? power~enwiki (π, ν) 19:10, 4 October 2017 (UTC)

OK. I removed the protection but it is still under discretionary sanctions. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 21:23, 4 October 2017 (UTC)

Incorrect level article protection

Hi, it seems you have protected the Israeli involvement in the Syrian Civil War as 30/500, even though the article belongs to the SCW&ISIL sanctions regime (not WP:ARBPIA which generally is associated with 30/500). The Syrian Civil War arena is not a part of the Arab-Israeli conflict as concluded in motion and later Community Level Sanctions decision. We can consider SCW&ISIL sanctions to be raised to 30/500 level, but do you think it is necessary?GreyShark (dibra) 15:43, 8 October 2017 (UTC)

Greyshark09. I missed that. So there is no need for any protection. However, I wouldd caution you to be careful. It appears that you made what could be classified as 2 or 3 reverts on the same day. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 18:43, 8 October 2017 (UTC)
Thank you for the reply and the notice. Do you refer to my 4 edits on October 4th [19]? If so, to my best understanding those are consecutive reverts and are to be counted as 1 for the purpose of 1RR or 3RR. Am i wrong?GreyShark (dibra) 11:42, 10 October 2017 (UTC)
Now that you mention it I'm not sure. I'll look it up again. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 21:03, 10 October 2017 (UTC)

WikiProject Canada 10,000 Challenge submissions

Hey, I want to draw your attention to the The 10,000 Challenge.

It is soon be reaching its first-anniversary. Please consider submitting any Canada-related articles you have created or improved since November 2016. Please try to ensure that all entries are sourced with formatted citations and no unsourced claims. I am contacting you because I know that you wrote a lot about the north (Yukon, NWT, Nunavut) and articles from those areas are vastly underrepresented.

You may submit articles using this link for convenience. Thank-you, and please spread the word to those you know who might be interested in joining this effort to improve the quality of Canada-related articles. OhanaUnitedTalk page 17:13, 10 October 2017 (UTC)

Kay Tipton

Regarding Draft:Kay_Tipton, I have been trying to gain approval for inclusion, but meeting pushback ("heroic teachers aren't notable"). I have described national-level awards with citations. Biographical data, actionable suggestions, or weighing in on notability would help. The ongoing notability debate is happening at User_talk:Kostas20142#13:51:27.2C_9_October_2017_review_of_submission_by_Pacingpoet. I added a comma, (with the surface melting, leaving much of the construction under water). Surface melt would be used properly as a noun, but I think using it as a verb would be better. --kelapstick(bainuu) 20:47, 24 October 2017 (UTC)

EDITS TO BRITISH RADIO CAR ASSOCIATION

Hi

Many thanks for undoing a couple of hours of my work while i try and get the page, semi representive of what the BRCA is, who is running it and where we are based!

We are not a paid company, and all of the edits I actioned are based from our public information, nobody else has ever bothered to update this page in as many years, the last edits were also from myself.

Example is our head quarters, it hasnt been there for around 25 years!

I wasnt aware i was breaking any terms? I believed this place to be a community place where everybody contributes, my actions following my edits was to ask some of our long term racers to come and contribute now i had (read had as its now gone) some form of structure for them to follow and adjust, however thats down the pan unless you can restore it?

I really would like to get this sorted out as i wish to get the page representive are to what we are

Regards

Darren — Preceding unsigned comment added by Secretary-brca (talkcontribs) 22:45, 9 November 2017 (UTC)

Secretary-brca. None of your edits are completely removed and can be seen in the history, here or here. On Wikipedia a conflict of interest (Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide) is not just confined to money matters. It is anything that you have a relationship to. In general, editing with a COI is not forbidden but it is preferred that you make your case on the talk page first. You must let others know, on your talk page or the article talk page, that you are associated with the BRCA. Some of the problems I saw were that Wikipedia doesn't like links to other websites in section headers. They could be used as references at the end of the section. Also there shouldn't be <small></small> tags in the article like that. The last problem was that you copied directly from the BRCA website. That is a copyright violation and has to be removed. As you must know the BRCA site has "Copyright © 1971-2016 British Radio Car Association [BRCA]. All Rights Reserved." at the page bottom. Template:CFS

Hello.

I noticed that you partially reverted my change on {{CFS}}. If that's really a title, it should not change depending on date format, should it? And shouldn't the title be in italics, or at least in quotes?

Also, parenthetically, the word "to" makes the template violate WP:Copyedit#Punctuation.

HandsomeFella (talk) 21:18, 19 November 2017 (UTC)

HandsomeFella I hadn't thought about that but it probably should be in quotes. It's off the front cover and the date changes every 56 days. See File:CanadaFlightSupplement20Jan05.jpg for an example. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 22:00, 19 November 2017 (UTC)

"Silver Chair" versus "Silver Chair (disambiguation)"

Dear Sir,
You have recently reverted my Move Article of the disambiguation page from Silver Chair to Silver Chair (disambiguation). I feel you have made this revert with little forethought nor regard to the relevant associations with that page. I am not in a position to undo your revert (and doing so would be unwise). I therefor ask that you take a closer look at the intent and impact of the Move Article I initiated.

It began when I attempted to access the Prince Caspian/The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (1989 TV serial) article, but Wikipedia instead dropped me on the The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian article. Initially, I added the TV serial article to the {About} template, but then decided that this further cluttered an already cluttered template. Having realized that the disambiguation Prince Caspian covered the content in the cluttered {About} template, I opted to remove the clutter.

I then proceeded to check the other related articles for this problem, finding the The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (disambiguation) page does not exist and had to leave the The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader {About} template cluttered as is.

When I had reached the The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair article, I had discovered that the disambiguation page of Silver Chair, was minimally populated compared with its counterparts, and included an Australian rock band Silverchair which had no association with the Narnian franchise other than its similar name.

Thus, in keeping with the article title formatting of most disambiguation pages known to me, and that the Silverchair rock band was also included in the list, this signifies a necessity to change the page name to Silver Chair (disambiguation). This was a very logical and well thought out change, in which I went back and checked for any article I could find that might link to Silver Chair. While you state that the change was "Not necessary", you had not explained your reasoning behind this, nor did you adjust any of the pages which link to Silver Chair (disambiguation), which leads me to believe your revert was simply based on an un-researched whim rather than any logical conclusion.

As I have previously stated, I am not in a position to directly challenge your revert. But I do ask that you at least go back and review the changes made, and if you still feel Move Article is "Not necessary," then I would like to know your thoughts on that position and to reconsider your revert. Most disambiguation pages state so in their article title, and article title formatting should at least be used consistently.
Christopher, Sheridan, OR (talk) 06:39, 20 November 2017 (UTC)

DeNoel. I was going by Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Disambiguation pages#Page naming and Wikipedia:Disambiguation#Naming the disambiguation page. Both of these say "The title of a disambiguation page is the ambiguous term itself, provided there is no primary topic for that term. If there is a primary topic, then the tag "(disambiguation)" is added to the name of the disambiguation page, as in Jupiter (disambiguation)." Also, Wikipedia:WikiProject Disambiguation#Create or move a disambiguation page So you get Arm (disambiguation) because arm is the primary topic but DDB (it's a disambiguation) which has no primary topic. In this case Silver Chair does not appear to have a primary topic so go with the simpler term. Having "Title (disambiguation)" which redirects to "Title" at the top of a page is so that bots (and humans) know that the disambiguation link was done on purpose. It can be done like {{Redirect|Psychedelics|other uses|Psychedelic (disambiguation){{!}}Psychedelic}} which can be found at the top of Psychedelic drug. Of course I can't find the instructions for that right now. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 12:40, 20 November 2017 (UTC)
