Got an idea about the Epic Metal controversy[edit]

Hi, Deiz! Just a question: do you remember the "Epic Metal" article i wrote (and was deleted) quite a while ago? If I post it inside the "Power Metal" entry, as a subchapter, would it be ok or would it be deleted? Waiting your answer, thanks!

It's entirely your call. The problem was that "epic metal" is not a well defined term, so if you're going to attempt to show it pertains to a particular genre or group of bands, you should be able to back up your edits with reliable external sources. I absolutely encourage you to do this, but only if you accept your edits might be changed, removed or disagreed with. If you introduce a subsection I would recommend writing the material from scratch using what you had before as a reference, rather than cutting and pasting. Deizio talk 14:30, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

Firstly, careful with the name. As an active contributor at Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Usernames, usernames containing the names of real people in a way that can be interpreted as negative are often disallowed and blocked. You can head off this possibility by choosing a new, less controversial name, which I strongly recommend. So at this point let me know if you wish to choose a new name and what that name is, or if you want your existing name to go through the comment procedure. After that I'll send you a welcome message full of helpful links. There is also a CKY / skateboarding wikiproject which I'm involved with, and you can ask questions there. I have to advise not including a reference to Kerry or any person at all. If you edit the Kerry Getz article you would still have a conflict, and likely a block. This dialog would also be visible to anyone interested in commenting on your name, hence its meaning would be clear. It is possible to apply for a name change, but its far simpler to open a new account, especially as the account is new and has no significant history. Kupugani[edit]

What is your justification for deleting the two short articles entitled Semiotic Cohesion and Kupugani? Do you not feel that they were historically relevant? Kupugani was quite a large charity organistaion in its time and I see no reason why Semiotic Cohesion is not out of place with the sort of articles that wikipedia promotes.

Hi Deiz! Just a question: why can't the Epic metal page be modified? It redirects to Power metal while it is, in fact, something completely different from a musical aspect. An appeal for help[edit]

Hi Deiz, this is about a case currently unfolding in the biography of Meher Baba. An Australian follower seemingly appaled from the mention of Peter Townsend started by deleting it. It was reverted, and in spite of continious personal attacks, things took the course of a straw poll for some agreement. Then there appeared 3 identities that seem to be the same user. Together with an editor who has contributed long term to the article, we have reported the case in Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/Liam7 on the 4th of December. Yet there is a backlist to clear in investigations and things are going slow (no implied blame on busy admins). Personal attacks continue, somewhat milder now, and a whole comedy of a situation is developing on the talk page. In the meanwhile, we (me and user Cott12) are trying to work on the article as per the recent peer review (in my user namespace/sandbox) but we don't dare any edits on the main article until someone does something about the new editor. By the way the editor has removed the tags of sock puppet suspicion from his user page and all the suspected puppets. We removed the Townsend section in the hope this would calm things down, but this user seems to be in for a personal show. The Meher Baba followers are not in any way extreme people and their faith is one of the least biased and most philosophically inspired that I have come across (I could liken them to the Bahai faith people). The article history had no big arguments previously, apart from a mild discussion on the whether Baba's origins were Persian or Irani. This is a unique case. I'm not sure if it can be called "disruptive", but it is certainly draining at least 3 previous editors' energy and any further progress is not possible. Should we also apply for User Check? Is there anything that can be done to restore some peaceful atmosphere so we can start working on the peer review? Hoverfish 14:20, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

The article was written by Jeff Tremaine and Dave Carnie, people who have worked closely with Kosick before. I have heard some of te other stories before (such as Tremaine buying his buddy breakfast every mornin at 7-11) so I am inclined to believe it. I do not believe that I have ever visited the Loddon Campaspe site. (In fact they have probably lifted it from somewhere else - any one of a number of community / history sites, I'd suggest.

The pool of accessible information on the Red Ribbon Rebellion is limited, compared with say, the Eureka Stockade. In effect most of it is statement of the known historical facts, rather than commentary.

Interesting that some wiki police would sooner accuse me of copyright abuse and have nothing about this significant historic movement on wikipedia.

Which discussion?[edit]

Per your comment about not deleting votes: I started to "unstrikeout" the stricken out vote of another editor, because I thought that it was inappropriate for someone to strike out someone elses words, but thought that I did not do so, after I saw that the redacted editor had agreed with the strikeout. So which deletion debate do you refer to? There are so many! If you refer to my edits to my own comments, I feel it is appropriate to edit a comment an make a clarification without markup symbols if no one has replied to it, so it remains as my final thoughts on the subject at that time.I would use strikeout to show a change of heart if someone has convinced me my 'Keep' should be changed to a 'Delete or vice versa, or that my comments were ill-founded, since it allows a later reader to follow the time course of the debate. OK, I posted something at 17:45, and looked into it further, and at 18:04 there had neen no further posts in reply, so at 18:04 I rephrased it, then at 18:08 you restored my earlier comment and answered it. Since my previous comment had been removed from the Deletion debate, you could just have replied to my talk page. Sorry about the confusion, an agreed, I should have clarified in the edit summary.. I would not have changed my comment if you had already replied to it, since that would have made your reply look like a nonsequitor. On the larger question, going beyond this particular singing group to the larger question of notability, I have seen several cases where an article was deleted for lack of sources where the subject received, say, a paragraph in a feature story in the New York Times, and the editors opposed to the article here deleted it calling the source a "passing reference." I do not feel that the "primary subject" criterion makes a lot of sense, since the same "note" might be taken of a notable subject by a paragraph of 50 words in a 1000 word article or by the same paragraph of 50 words in a 100 word article where the entity is the "primary subject." In either case, it should help to establish notability. In the Fortune article, the entrepreneur thought the group was impressive or he would not have used them to impress guests. In the NY Times article, the university thought they were impressive, so they used them to impress high school seniors. In neither case would they have trotted out a lousy non-notable squad of singers. In cultural reviews, the music editor is likely to talk about several events, and I look for favorable mention in the paragraph devoted to the particular group. I don't know what the best course is. It's generally frowned on to semi-protect for a long period of time and I'm especially hesitant over a single spam link being added once or twice a day (which you have to admit isn't that big of a deal). It's too bad you can't protect a single article against a range of IPs. Range protection. (Something to propose to the developers maybe, eh?) Textbot announced his retirement, so a block wasn't high priority. Given his cooperation with the Textbot thing, I was waiting for a response about the Tanqueray issue before blocking, with it being the festive season not everyone is on WP all the time. Well, I figured it wasn't a problem to put the tag on, because it only says suspected. However, you will notice that he has the IP address from which, says User:Mackensen, "there is little to no activity... that does not come from Willy on Wheels.": see [3] and Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard#195.188.152.16_blocked. Thus, seeing that this user has also been uncooperative in the past, the connection seemed at least likely enough to plop a sock tag on his page. Why was that IP blocked? I am using my high school computer I have told this to several people, It shares the same IP address. I can assure you that it is not me. I want nothing for the best, for ALL Wikipedia articles. It was most likely someone from my high school. But on the WP:CKY page I noted that a vandal did some stuff to the Gnarkill page, and that it should be formated and watched. Just to let you know I am keeping a very close eye on the Bam Margera Wikipage, and have not seen nothing wrong since the "Ă" problem. I originally listed it since I thought the user was just a troll so asking would probably do no good. I had thought he/she was consistently asking about Muslims or Arabs and terrorists/terrorism in the reference desk but one a closer look a number of his/her questions have been in other areas. Deletion Review[edit]

Could you take a look at an AFD for me as an administrator? Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Scott Johnson (artist) The article contains no sources for notability. I suspect the administrator that ruled keep simply looked at the number of keep votes and ruled as such. The problem, however, is that the subject himself pleaded the readers of his blog to argue on his behalf and those who voted for keep were either anonymous IPs or newly created users.
