  • Hook wording tweaked. Edwardx (talk) 14:17, 28 August 2014 (UTC)
  • Well, it's new enough and obviously long enough, and this hook isn't bad: interesting factoid. I started by making some tweaks to the article, but I am not going to do a full review since I see many minor problems that need handling, IMO, esp. with sourcing. For instance, Domm 84 (ref. 8) does not verify the bankruptcy or the 1992 date, and I can't access Zimmerman to check; note 10 is to an unreliable (commercial) source and the information is somewhat important (number of passengers first year); I already removed a personal blog. The references for the fact cited in the hook are a bit skimpy as well: there's a PDF of a newsletter from an awards ceremony (and that it's from a historical society helps, but still it's not great), and there's this local magazine--neither of them are very strong, though they may suffice. At any rate, in my opinion (after spending a half an hour on the matter) this requires some more work and a follow-up from another DYK volunteer, since I don't wish to turn it down on the sourcing issue, but I can't pass it in good conscience. • Let me take the issues one at a time to solve.
1) - Took out the working referring to "bankruptcy". Yes, I did have the Zimmerman book in front of me when I wrote up the article where I got the information. I received the book by ILL and have sent it back to the lending library. In Google Books preview you can verify on page 30 the information on the Bankruptcy and the February 1992 info. Added additional source for bankruptcy information from Ludington Daily News. Since there are two independent sources verifying the same bankruptcy information I put the bankruptcy lines back in.
2) - removed info on first year of operation. Put the information back in of 115,000 passengers, thirty thousand beyond their goal, since I have additional source with inline reference.
3) - Yes, the reference source for last coal-fired steamship is from the Steamship Historical Society of America.
4) - No, and the other hook source of the Lakeland Boating magazine is from Walter "Bing" O'Meara, a Chicago publisher = NOT a local magazine. SS Badger's home port is Ludington, Michigan, some 240 miles away. The publisher has no relationship to the Badger or Lake Michigan Carferry company (owner of Badger).
