Why copyright?[edit]

Pls help me understand. The source is listed. What are the copyright regulations here? Only Ama Deus (talk) 11:22, 31 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

We may not copy word for word unless there is no copyright. WP:COPYRIGHT. Example: several psalms had a translation from Hebrew into English, which had to be erased (all intermediate revisions rendered not visible) because it was not free to be copied. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:12, 31 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

why is hilmar h. werner's translation used as "citation" for another translation?[edit]

one reads: "The incipit is Von guten Mächten treu und still umgeben (By loving forces devotedly and quietly surrounded).[1] The seventh and last stanza, Von guten Mächten wunderbar geborgen (By loving forces wonderfully sheltered),[1] has been used as a refrain in a popular version." the first line of the quoted translation goes like this: "By loving forces silently surrounded, ...". the second quotation however is correct. if the first translation here is meant as a word by word, very literal (not so much poetic) translation by the author of the article, then it should be: "By good forces devotedly and quietly surrounded", and should be commented as such. thank you!

I suggest the following changes: ' The incipit is: "Von guten Mächten treu und still umgeben", which can be translated word by word as: "By good forces devotedly and quietly surrounded", or, in a more poetic, singable, widely used version: "By loving forces silently surrounded, ..."[1]. The seventh and last stanza "Von guten Mächten wunderbar geborgen" respectively "By loving forces wonderfully sheltered" is used as a refrain in the mentioned popular rendition.
