Translation of the name[edit]

The prophet's name, in its elongated form "Micaiahu", is commonly translated "Who is like Yahweh?" or possibly, "He who is like Yahweh",

If you simply delete the question mark, so that it says "Who is like Yahweh", with no question mark, then it means the same thing as "He who is like Yahweh", except that in recent decades that particular bit of English usage seems to have been forgotten. English dictionaries published in the 19th century would, for example, say that "invisible" means "that cannot be seen", so that an invisible thing is a thing "that cannot be seen". Likewise if Micah means "who is like Yahweh", then a person to whom that adjective is ascribed would be a person "who is like Yahweh". In other words, "who is like Yahweh" is not a question. But speakers of current 21st-century English often seem unaware of that, and so they think that "who is like Yahweh" is a question and put a question mark there.

Age[edit]

The infobox suggests Micah was born circa 740 BC, suggesting that Micah 'prophesied' from the age of about 4 (737BC). This seems 'unlikely' (even quite apart from the 'prophesying' bit). What is the basis for the years given??--Jeffro77 (talk) 07:06, 12 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Good catch. Neither the biblical text nor any of the half dozen or so commentaries I just looked at dare to guess when he was born. The time span when he prophesized overlapped the reigns of 3 kings, so he would have been alive at least in those years. How old he was when called as a prophet is not made known AFAIK. The time frame in the article of 740-670 BCE for his prophesying spans 70 years. It seems best to eliminate the birth and death times from the infobox.

The Sons of Micha are not labeled on WikiPedia. Its for a good reason. They're not trying to expose the truth. The son, Pithon, carries the same name of the people of Peshawar, Pakistan. They are known as PATHANS(PASHTUNS).
