Saint?[edit]

The Anglican Communion has no mechanism for identifying saints. Is infobox Saint really an appropriate template?Peterkingiron (talk) 22:52, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Strictly there is no process of canonisation, he is however commemorated in the latest lectionary, and regarded as one of the great Anlgican divines, so it's not too bad a fit. David Underdown (talk) 15:42, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Most Anglicans do not venerate saints in the way that Catholics do. I think there is an appropriate info box for bishops and other clerics etc, but I am not sure what it is: I do not habitually set these up, on;ly succession boxes. Peterkingiron (talk) 23:26, 12 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Those don't have the option to display his "day", he has a Lesser Festival, so the saint box is useful so far as it goes. Obviously there's a far wider variation int eh understnading of waht veneration means, and maybe there needs to be an improvement to the infobox on that front. There is indeed an Anglican "mechanism for identifying saints". Inclusion in the calendar is standard. There is no canonisation process as you find in the Roman Catholic Church. -- Secisek (talk) 19:23, 20 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, there is a canonisation process similar to the Roman Catholic kind, but it has only ever been used once after the Protestant Reformation, to declare King Charles I of England a Saint (Now St. Charles Stuart or King Charles the Martyr). The rest of Anglican "minor" saints are not canonized, but are included in the Anglican Calendar of Saints, so they are, indeed, Saints. Veneration is also practiced within the Communion's High Church and Anglo-Catholic parishes. Some Anglicans even pray the Anglican Rosary and use votive candles. The Angelic Salutation (Hail Mary), Patron saint prayers, and others are used in parts of the Anglican Communion. --Willthacheerleader18 (talk) 14:05, 5 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

New image[edit]

I recently uploaded a higher-resolution of Lancelot Andrewes (right), an engraving by Wenceslas Hollar, but it's significantly different so it's up to you whether to use it or not. Dcoetzee 23:29, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Was Andrewes at the Synod of Dort?[edit]

This list of delegates does not include him, and Urban Tigner Holmes in A history of Christian spirituality: an analytical introduction (p. 116) says that Andrewes "was opposed to Calvinism, refusing to be in the Anglican delegation to the Synod of Dort." But the Classic Encyclopedia says he "attended" the Synod - could he have attended, but not as a delegate? StAnselm (talk) 04:53, 9 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the claim. StAnselm (talk) 11:25, 10 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
