Proposed merger with WikiProject Belgrade

Wikipedia:WikiProject Belgrade has been tagged as inactive. Potentially, this leaves the project open for deletion. Would the members of this project favor moving the above named project as a work group or task force of this project? If required, I could perform changes to the banner to permit separate assessment. Flag of Serbia

As everyone's noticed theres been a change to the colour or hue of the flag, particularly the blue. I know that the change was based on the National Assembly site but the Government site which has the symbol as well shows the blue as the original darker hue which is consistent with Serbian flags through out history (general present with a darker blue rather than lighter) [1] So we are presented with conflicting sides here. I generally dislike the lighter blue and its quite evident when seeing the Serbian flag in actual photos that it is darker... at least darker than what is presented here. Let me know what you think. What is the point of it, when it is not yet independent? It's still part of Serbia, so until it is officially an independent country there should not be a separate wikiproject for it, should there be? We could have wikiproject Pristina too I suppose, if we can have this one. (LAz17 (talk) 05:10, 16 February 2008 (UTC)).

Draft Guidelines for Lists of companies by country - Feedback Requested

Within WikiProject Companies I am trying to establish guidelines for all Lists of companies by country, the implementation of which would hopefully ensure a minimum quality standard and level of consistency across all of these related but currently disparate articles. The ultimate goal is the improvement of these articles to Featured List status. As a WikiProject that currently has one of these lists within your scope, I would really appreciate your feedback! Small Cyrillic problem

Dejan Medaković

Is anyone interested in helping with a biographical article on a Serbian academic? Dejan Medaković, a former president of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SASA) apparently has just died (1 July 2008 or 2 July 2008 - some confusion about that at the article). I've just had to remove most of the text of the article because it appears to have been copied from the SASA website (and it probably needed some rewrite for WP style, anyway.) I'd think the info from the SASA site would be a good source for the article, we just need to not copy it directly. I don't think I'd have a chance to get to it before this coming weekend at the soonest, and since his death is a "current event" (at least in Serbian academic spheres), I thought someone else might like to work on it before then. Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

  • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
  • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
  • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. Kosovo geographic articles introduction

Recently there has been some drawn out edit warring regarding geography articles where some editors would like to say that something is in Kosovo, without mentioning Serbia at all.

In general, in geography articles, we say that "X is a city in Country" or, if the country has significant subdivisions (which Kosovo certainly is), "X is a city in Subdivision, Country". Prior to Kosovo's UDI we tended to use "X is a city in Kosovo, a province of Serbia under UN administration". However, some editors object to doing this anymore.

So, I am suggesting that we flesh out a proposal on what should be an acceptable description; for example, it may be "X is a city in Kosovo, Serbia<ref>Kosovo declared independence that Serbia does not accept blah blah.</ref>". Then, we can invite editors from Wikiproject Kosovo, and perhaps other interested editors via a RfC to comment and reach a compromise; then, implement the compromise on Kosovo-related geographic articles. Help request: 501 Serbia-related articles needing geographical coordinates

Based on a search of Wikipedia's articles related to Serbia, I've found some articles that I believe are about places in Serbia, and could usefully have geographical coordinates added.

The articles in question are listed in Category:Serbia articles missing geocoordinate data. At the time of writing, some examples included:

  1. Countess Ljubica's Residence
  2. Despot Stefan Tower
  3. Drenovac
  4. Gruža (lake)
  5. Museum of Contemporary Art (Belgrade)
  6. Obrež
  7. Rakovički potok

...and there are many more, as well. At the time of posting this notice, there were 501 articles in this category needing geographical coordinates.

Why add coordinates?

By adding coordinates, a Wikipedia reader can easily view the location on a street map, nautical chart, topographic map, by satellite photo, realtime weather map, and in many other ways. Coordinate data makes an article eventually appear in various services such as Google Maps' Wikipedia overlay, Google Earth, and Wikipedia's own internal map service. Coordinate data also helps readers looking for geographically-based data, such as locations near a reference point, or related information.

How can I do it?

The articles are all marked with {{coord missing}} tags, which need to be replaced with {{coord}} tags that contain the location's latitude/longitude coordinates; or you might be able to add coordinates to an existing infobox. You can find out how to do this at the Wikipedia:Geocoding how-to for WikiProject members.

Need a bit of help sorting out the Stadion Fk Detelinara article. The text of this article appears to be about FK Novi Sad, but I can't figure out enough about either one from the text to figure out if one is a stadium and the other a football club, or they are names for the same thing, or what. Belgrade Metro

We need to expand the page of the Belgrade Metro. Major issue, maps

We are dealing with croat POV that is trying to undermine truth, that will paint a distorted reality of what is really going on. Therefore I feel htat it owuld be good if anyone else gave some input as to the hellzone that has been created on this talk page... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image_talk:Bih_1991.jpg I have undertaken the long needed cleansing of Ceha's fraud maps that portray wrong data. Cathedral of Saint Sava

Could somebody who knows something about this pleeese go to the page, read my comments on the discussion page annd make the necessary adjustments to the statements which are currently meaningless to the ordinary reader. This is important.

Secondly, someone with a little knowledge of architecture really needs to write about the style of the building. It is drawn directly from Hagia Sophia in Istanbul. This article cannot possibly warrant a B grading if the very obvious nature of the architectural tradition is not included in the article. You cannot base a building directly on one of the most famous buildings in the world, and then not write that this is where the design comes from!

Is Weird Al Serbian?

There is some dispute on the Serbian American article on whether "Weird Al" Yankovic is of Serbian descent and should be included in the article. Some source say he is only Yugoslavian, including his personal website and an interview. Other sources say he is Serbian such as IMBD and another website. Also, though this is a weak argument, Yankovic is a Serbian name and he is listed as Serbian in the Serbs and List of Serbs article. Essentially I'm looking for some assistance to avoid an edit war.
