Deletion

Deletion of this kind of list is being discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of religious leaders in 1946. -- Jonel | Speak 07:52, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

Colonial governors

The List of colonial governors in YYYY series was originally created back in 2004. In the last two years they haven't expanded beyond Portugal and therefore aren't really doing any good. I noticed because one of the articles has been listed on cleanup since August of last year (List of colonial governors in 1841). I'm of the mind to prod them all, but wanted to know if there was a real possibility that these might get expanded in the near future. I've spoken with Jonel, who indicated to me that there probably wasn't much potential for expansion (see [1]). I'm dropping this note here as a warning that I intend to prod them all within the week unless a cry of protest is raised. Best, Mackensen (talk) 02:40, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

It seems like it's more harmless to leave the articles be and hope somebody starts to improve them. But they really do suck, huh? john k 18:10, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
Agreed, if nothing else in the fact that we've been starting to get this project active again, and now would probably not be the best time to start taking the pages away. I'm not going to promise magical progress, since I personally will be working on the main leaders before colonial leaders, but it doesn't hurt to have them there when we're starting work again. matt91486 18:49, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

Category listing and a question

Look here. That is not sorted in a crononical way (as it should be). I don't know if Wikipedia will accept a format like this for year 200 (example): . In fact, to imply it is CE, there should be another '1' in the beginning, as opposed to the year 200 BCE.

200 BCE:

200 CE:

We assume that year 10000 will not be a problem. This will require us to edit ALL the previous articles. Note: If Wikipedia ignores numbers beginning with "0", we could use '1' for BCE and '2' for CE.  :) Thanks in advance! --[Svippong - Talk] 14:44, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

Try:

←2000 BCE ⒆ ⒅ ⒄ ⒃ ⒂ ⒁ ⒀ ⑿ ⑾ 1000 BCE ⑼ ⑻ ⑺ ⑹ ⑸ ⑷ ⑶ ⑵ ⑴ ←0 BCE

0 CE→ ⒈ ⒉ ⒊ ⒋ ⒌ ⒍ ⒎ ⒏ ⒐ 1000 CE ⒒ ⒓ ⒔ ⒕ ⒖ ⒗ ⒘ ⒙ ⒚ 2000 CE→

eg.

This unicode character will order into hundreds the years from 2000 BCE to 2000 CE.

I will do Category:Lists of state leaders by year to demonstrate what I mean.

Template

I have made an attempt to create a template for this project, if anyone can make it any better then please do so! Davewild 14:18, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

Formatting Debates Revisited

We've been missing some continuity on the formatting, and I propose that we do set a style and stick to it.

The first thing I've noticed is the hypens after country names. I don't see them particularly necessary; I've been doing it for continuity. An example is, of course:

  • Spain -
    • President Whatever

I think we can do without the hyphen and should perhaps remove it from the template. I've been using it lately just to fit, but let's decide if we need to keep it.

The other formatting that has not been strictly followed is linking to years. I think we should stick with the linking to years in formatting. Any other thoughts? matt91486 23:05, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

Firstly I agree that we should stick to linking the years. The only lists that do not seem to have had this happen are from 2000 onwards. I presume at some point someone came along and removed them as all the other lists do have them. I have not been adding them back as it seemed to be a large task without much benefit (I could just see someone objecting and getting into a revert war). I do think that in December we should create a List of state leaders in 2007 as a sublink to this page with the year links all done so we can put the list in place on the 1st January complete.
As to the hyphen I have been using it because when a state has only one leader (eg. just a monarch) I have been following this style:-
This keeps the information on one line thus keeping the overall size of the list down, (makes the hyphen important) and means that we don't put the office title twice. Obviously if there is more than one leader for the state (eg. President and Prime Minister) then I have been using the format set down on the project main page.
To give an examples of how this looks this is how I have been formating. Davewild 07:59, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

Project directory

Hello. The WikiProject Council has recently updated the Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. This new directory includes a variety of categories and subcategories which will, with luck, potentially draw new members to the projects who are interested in those specific subjects. Please review the directory and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. It is my hope that all the changes to the directory can be finished by the first of next month. Please feel free to make any changes you see fit to the entries for your project before then. If you should have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you. B2T2 20:26, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Newcomer

Hello. I have just found this project, more or less by chance. I noticed that leaders of my native Hungary are missing for most of the 20th century, I will start by putting them in. I have also noticed that when Hungarian leaders are in, for example Hungarian prime ministers in the Habsburg (Dual Monarchy) era, their title is given as "Minister-President". True enough, this looks like the translation of Miniszterelnök - but this is a compund noun that effectively translates into English as Prime Minister. Mr Ferenc Gyurcsány, the present holder of the post, is officially Miniszterelnök today, and English-language media consistently refer to him as the Prime Minister of Hungary - why would it be different in the past? Anyone with ideas?

Wikipedia Day Awards

Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 22:33, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
