Careless Whisper revison specifically the cover versions

please help i have tried to add in information that is accurate to the cover versions section of the page dedicated to the song Careless whisper the problems is there is no website that documents the information aside from ebay and a youtube video [1]of the song and other places so i am unsure what to do as it got taken down

i inserted this into the page

• Japanese singer Hideki Saijo released a cover in 1984 with the title of "Dakishimete Jiruba" which was released as a single and featured on his album "In Search of Love" which was released a year after

Edit-warring on oyama (onnagata)

Everyone knows onnagata (女形), a female kabuki role played by a man, but many people (including me, a couple of hours ago) do not know that it can also be read oyama. An IP removed the entry from Oyama (disambiguation page), then tried to remove the relevant text from Onnagata by simply deleting every occurrence of 'oyama', resulting in a mangled template and incoherence. I restored the Oyama page, and started to rewrite the relevant bits of Onnagata, but the IP simply reverts everything. Can someone else please have a look. (Incidentally, the entry in Daijirin is quite a satisfactory account; can someone remind me how to quote that as a reference.) Thanks Imaginatorium (talk) 05:46, 13 May 2023 (UTC)

Kōshi or kōshijima (Japanese tartan/plaid)

After some 2021 argumentation (not involving me) at Talk:Tartan about the article being to Scotland-specific, I've started a Tartan#In other cultures section with a Tartan#Japanese kōshi subsection. I was kind of surprised there was not already an article or at least a section on this element of Japanese textile and clothing history which goes back to at least the Edo period. The section definitely needs work, as it is using not-too-great sources (all that I could find). It would benefit from expert source material (which is probably going to be in Japanese and will need a Japanese-fluent editor to parse it). In the interim, I've redirected relevant terms to this section when possible and disambiguated when not. PS: I have used simple {{lang}} markup; I know some prefer more complex templates; feel free to re-markup as needed.  — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼  00:36, 16 May 2023 (UTC)

The general idea of a pattern with crossing lines has a word in most languages, I'm sure, but I doubt many of them are separate encyclopedia topics. As far as I know, in Japanese this is just a pattern without any particular cultural meaning. The direct translation of "tartan" in Japanese is "kōshi moyō" (lattice pattern), and there does not appear to be an article on the Japanese version on the Japanese Wikipedia (the closest equivalent article corresponds to our article on Stripe (pattern)). The individual names in the subsection on the Tartan page are basically descriptive rather than "titles" (misuji literally means three lines, futasuji literally means two lines, ō- means large, and ko- means small). The reference on the Scholten site... I don't know. "The grid motif was associated with strength; the larger the stripes, the greater the power" looks a bit like they are just trying their best to sell the print. Dekimasuよ! 05:32, 16 May 2023 (UTC)

2007 Komae city assembly election

I was surprised to discover that there's an article on 2007 Komae city assembly election, but then unsurprised to find that it has minimal text. For anyone reading this who's unfamiliar with -shi or the western Tokyo burbs, "Komae city" is the standard translation of Komae-shi, shi has little in common with "city" in a European context, and Komae is an unremarkable patch of suburbia. The election seems to have been unremarkable. Or am I missing something? -- Hoary (talk) 12:39, 25 May 2023 (UTC)
