Genres[edit]

Very Important Note[edit]

This poll has been moved here from the project talk page, and it's "rules" and closing dates unilaterally changed by Ley Shade. As such, the original votes which were "carried over" and the rationales behind them were made under different rules to the ones below. This alteration to the poll does not reflect a consensus of those who began the poll, and I fear the usefulness of the original exercise has been seriously, perhaps irrevocably, damaged.

In the original poll we were aiming to strip down the template to the "core" metal genres, in order to agree a common position and facilitate consensus when additions or alterations to the template were proposed. It was never intended to be a popularity contest or a place to promote your own personal tastes.

The votes were to decide which genres would be on Template:Heavymetal and also which section of List of heavy metal genres a given sub-genre would fit into. As such it was possible to vote in one of three ways:

  • Keep, for sub genres to go on the template and the "core" section of the list
  • Delete-Minor, distinct metal sub-genres but not major enough to go on the template. These would go in the "minor" section of the list
  • Delete-Cross-reference, cross-over and mixed sub-genres which would not go on the template and would in the "cross references" section of the list.

While it is important for members of the project to participate on this vote, it is also important that members understand why they are voting and what they are voting for. To paraphrase what Ley Shade personally declared on the project talk page, "...if "cross-reference" genres like speed metal are included on the template, then all the cross-referenced genres will have to go on".

If the result of this poll is to be very inclusive about what counts as a core metal genre, it will be very hard to object to metal-related genres, sub-genres, sub-sub-genres and cross-referenced genres which have a main Wikipedia article (i.e. everything on the Heavy metal list for starters) being placed on the template.

Overview[edit]

This page is for voting on the inclusion of genres on the Heavy Metal Template, and will act as a guide point to future work regarding other projects that the group chooses to partake in. The simple voting rules are below.
