Penn and Teller: Bullshit!

I see that one of the Bullshit! episodes for next season is about Mt. Rushmore but does anybody know what they will saying about Mt. Rushmore? Will it be pro Mt. Bullshit! "aims to debunk an array of popular misconceptions". Mount Rushmore is not a misconception, and their opinion of the mountain (or its sculpture) is unlikely to interest people, but perhaps there is some myth associated with it that they intend to debunk.--Shantavira 13:24, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

Some of their episode descriptions or titles can be vague. Such as "Death Inc." (they're not debunking death or attempting to do a 28 minute show on being in favor or against). I would guess they speak of those president's vices, similar to the "Holier Than Thou" show, where they talked about Gandhi, Mother Theresa, and... somebody else. Perhaps they are going to address why Theodore Roosevelt was included, since he doesn't seem to be of the same reputation as the other faces (George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Abraham Lincoln). The closest poll to the time when the monument was made puts him 7th. He is respected for creating the US National Park system and being anti-monopoly, but also advocated the imperialistic Spanish-American War, prior to the Presidency, thus leading to all our problems with Cuba, like the Bay of Pigs Invasion and Cuban Missile Crisis, years later. yeah Calvin Coolidge was president when Mount Rushmore was started do your homework before you speak. i dont think they will say these presidents were bad because George Washington is probably the reason we are even a country today. Thomas Jefferson was the principal author of the Declaration of Independence why on earth would they say he was a bad president? Abraham Lincoln he ended slavery and won the civil war I cant find a reason why they would say hes was a bad president. and Theodore Roosevelt built the Panama Canal.

Considering Penn and Teller's libertarian beliefs, i would expect that they would have frowned upon the construction of Mt Rushmore in the first place, on account of the heavy government involvement in it, as well as the fact that the land was seized from Indians who were supposed to have owned it by treaty. They would also object to the government's continued involvement in the monument considering the enormous amount of tax money that surely has been spent on maintenance and attracting new tourists.

As far as what they think of those individual presidents, i'm sure they're mostly OK with Washington and Jefferson (because of their apparent libertarian beliefs and styles of governing), but most likely frown on Lincoln and Roosevelt due to the great deal of 'initiation of force' they engaged in. ~ lav-chan @ 01:33, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

steps tp making a movie or television show

hi, i was wonder what and how many steps there are to making a show or movie. Like what do you have to do to even consider getting sponsered or if you already are sponsered what do you have to do to get a movie going or television show like what is the proccess??. thank you 06:07, 23 January 2007 (UTC)~ Nick S

Well, according to the Filmmaking article, the steps are as followed:

• Development
• Pre-production
• Production
• Post-production
• Distribution

Sponsorship can occur at any of these stages; the Beyblade cartoon series will have been funded by Hasbro from the day that it was suggested, Bond films gain their sponsorship during pre-production and production, while something like Coronation Street was probably only sponsored by Cadburys during distribution. Promoting a concert

Does anyone here have any knowledge/experience of putting on small-scale rock/acoustic concerts? There is an artist who will be touring Europe in the spring and I would really like to have him play in my home city. He is just one guy with a guitar, not very well known in Europe yet. Most of the small-sized venues in my city don't promote their own shows, they hire out the space. So it seems to me that my two main expenses would be the hire of the space, and the artist's fee. Then I would need to recoup that money in ticket sales in order to break even (which is all I'm looking to do; I don't care about making a profit). Obviously I would need to choose the venue carefully - right part of town, not too small/big, and make sure that it has all the technical equipment to enable my artist to perform. What other factors do I need to take into consideration?

Some other questions that occur to me are:

• Do most artists also expect to be put up in a hotel for the night at the promoter's expense, or do they pay for their own accommodation?
  
• To stimulate ticket sales the show would obviously have be advertised well in advance - but would the venue do this, or would it be my responsibility?
  
• What about bar takings - does the promoter/artist get some of these, or are they retained by the venue?

If you are renting the venue, I would think that they wouldn't care if you made any money or not as long as they get their rental fee. Therefore, I wouldn't expect them to advertise the show for you. Also, it may be a CYA (Cover Your Ass) thing with venues. If they were going to promote it and then nobody showed, you could sue them for not doing a good enough job of promoting the show, promoting it on the wrong radio stations, etc. I've never put on a concert so that's just what my cynical side tells me. I know A LOT about this topic. We should talk offlist.

1. The first thing you should do is contact the artist to find out if s/he is willing to play your city, and what the fee would be. That will help determine the size of the venue. Ask if s/he would consider a profit share, although that would necessitate you giving a good plan as to how you are going to promote the concert, and it might include a rider on the part of the artist that s/he can cancel if you don't do a certain amount of pre-concert sales. Ask her/him for technical requirements, but make it clear that you are a small scale operation; s/he might have a 'bare' set design vs a more elaborate one. When you are talking to venues, make sure you get things like the actual size of the stage, times for setup, whether you have to pay a fee to set up if it's during open hours, if there are stairs to negotiate, etc. The artist may bring most of her/his equipment, make sure the venue has the proper outlets to deal with big electricity suckers.
2. Accomodation and per diems are negotiable. Lots of small artists will accept private accomodation (your spare room or even your sofa). You needn't go overboard; unless it's Eminem or Loreena McKennitt, they won't be expecting much. Believe me, I've been on BOTH sides.
3. Most venues will do some advertising, but if you want good sales you should expect to do some too, on your own dime. It's not true that venues are just happy with your rental fee; they want to fill their venue for bar sales, and they want to preserve their reputation. But don't expect too much. This is also something you can discuss with the artist; some artists have mailing lists, lists of stores where their records are sold, etc. They might be doing their own promotion, and/or they can coordinate with you.
4. House percentages (whether ticket sales or bar) are on a venue by venue and even gig by gig basis. The venue is more likely to split with you if you're bringing them someone they are pretty sure will fill the place and/or if you show you're doing a lot to promote the gig.

Dragonball Z - Veggetto question 2

Vegetto in normal form is stronger of a SSj3 end probabily the stronger (except him in SSj form) of Dragon Ball Z (in normal form is stronger than Gotenks SSj3? Buu is stronger than Gotenks SSj?), in SSj form (Super Vegetto) he is 50 times stronger than normal form. Then Vegetto is stronger than both Goku and Vegeta. templates for certain subjects?

Are there templates for certain topics, like music bands? I noticed most of the music bands entries look the same. Is there a template I can easily use to do this? Or do I have to copy the formating from an existing entry to create a new one?

Sorry, you have to make your own. There is a standard however, and you can see it in the band templates we use, such as Template:Green_Day for example. fairly odd parents

I swear I remember seeing a promo for an episode of The Fairly OddParents in which Timmy sang about the joys of being a boy. I have seen all the episodes and movies and cannot place that song snippet. I looked in all the episode lists I could think of and found nothing, meaning either that episode was shown once and yanked (maybe not at all) or I totally daydreamed this. It was before or during the same season where Timmy wishes all the halloween costumes were real. Does anyone else remember this? This has been driving me nuts for years. I know you asked this a few days ago and it was deleted as being unsuitable for the Ref Desk. Strictly speaking, it probably is, although it's also fairly harmless IMHO. (It'll probably get deleted again.) But your question is so vast. Do you mean songs written especially for films, or songs which already existed and were added to films? Hah! Not that easy, Mac Davis ;). Clancy60, the page on Academy Award for Best Original Song gives you a long list of which ones were picked by a specialized crowd as the greatest original movie songs of the corresponding year. Another, slightly different, crowd's choices can be seen at the page on Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song.
