Welcome![edit]

When posting to my talk page, I have a couple of things that I would like you to keep in mind:

  1. When starting a new discussion, please put it in its own section. The easiest way to do this is the click on the "new section" or "+" tab (depending on what skin you're using) at the top of the page and then give the discussion a title.
  2. Please be specific. Comments like "Why did you make that edit?" will get us both nowhere. Which edit? To what article?
  3. I'll answer here on this page.
  4. And finally, please sign your comments. You can do this by putting four tildes at the end of your comments like this: ~~~~

Thanks, Dismas|(talk)

Cheers[edit]

Damon Runyon's short story "Dancing Dan's Christmas" is a fun read if you have the time. Right from the start it extols the virtues of the hot Tom and Jerry

This hot Tom and Jerry is an old-time drink that is once used by one and all in this country to celebrate Christmas with, and in fact it is once so popular that many people think Christmas is invented only to furnish an excuse for hot Tom and Jerry, although of course this is by no means true.

No matter what concoction is your favorite to imbibe during this festive season I would like to toast you with it and to thank you for all your work here at the 'pedia this past year. Best wishes for your 2020 as well D. MarnetteD|Talk 23:09, 18 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. Notice

The article Bling! has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:GNG.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Krokan!![edit]

Ha!! The GBBO is exactly why I created that article :) I googled it and all that came up was (a) croquembouche, (b) a reddit thread asking whether "krokan" had some other name because no one could find it, and (c) google asking me "did you mean kraken?" I did laugh at that last one, heh heh. Luckily I was able to pull most of the text from the Swedish wikipedia -- so glad they had a photo I could use! Disputed non-free use rationale for File:NYC UN Gift of Italy.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:NYC UN Gift of Italy.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Vanjagenije (talk) 22:31, 24 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Admin Needed[edit]

How do I get an admin to protect a page or section that constantly gets reverted, removing additions to articles that someone doesn't like.

Do repeated reverts get the attention of anyone? etc.

thanks

FrostyBullet (talk) 00:29, 7 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You can make a request here: Wikipedia:Requests for page protection. Or, you can tell me what article is it about, so that I can take a look. Vanjagenije (talk) 22:07, 7 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
First, FrostyBullet (talk · contribs), I'm not sure why you're asking me. You can ask this sort of question at the Help Desk. I barely edit articles anymore and there are users there, who are more active, that can answer your question.
Second, I think the removal of the information you're trying to add is justified. The other user has pointed out the exact reason (with a link to the relevant guideline) for why they're removing your edits.
Third, thank you to Vanjagenije (talk · contribs) for jumping in here to respond to Frosty.
