Your recent additions to SA/OTD[edit]

Per WP:DATE#Calendars, I hope that the articles that you recently added to the SA/OTD pages make it very clear and definite on their equivalent solar calendar dates.

I can see how one might get confused when reading the current second paragraph of Tran Dynasty#Downfall. The first sentence begins with "On March 15 of the lunar calendar, 1398", then has the relevant "on the 28th day of the second lunar month (March 23) 1400" phrase. Someone who is unfamiliar with the lunar calendar might, at first glance, incorrectly interpret "March 23" as a lunar date and then remove it from Wikipedia:Selected anniversaries/March 23. There is not a consistent date format in that whole article (including the infobox, which currently reads "February 28 (Lunar calendar) 1400") per WP:DATE#Format consistency, and it will only lead to misinterpretations.

This is especially true if your preferred lunar date formatting uses the same 12 names of the months as in the solar calendar (January, February, March, etc.) instead of "X day of the Nth lunar month". If that is the case, you'll be better off in doing something similar to {{OldStyleDate}} like "March 23 [February 28 Lunar Calendar] 1400"; or maybe the formatting used on such articles like October Revolution and write "February 28 1400 Lunar Calendar (March 23 1400 Gregorian Calendar)". Thanks. Zzyzx11 (talk) 06:14, 8 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Also, I believe these are the first such articles added to SA/OTD regarding historical Vietnamese events, and whose sources give dates based on the Vietnamese lunar calendar. Therefore, I think there might be a higher chance of misunderstandings, since there will be more users unfamiliar with that lunar calendar system. Thanks. ATtending to it YellowMonkey (vote in the Southern Stars and White Ferns supermodel photo poll) 06:26, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I forgot to thank you for adding these articles. It's a change of pace than some of the topics you currently see on SA/OTD. Unfortunately, we are still nowhere close to having exclusively only B-class and above pages. There are still numerous days when you can barely find 5 decent articles to post. I wouldn't mind only listing one or two events on these days, but then people would get upset if we have to put stale old news back on ITN, or shorten DYK and thus increase the backlog. Cheers. Zzyzx11 (talk) 17:47, 10 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I did leave messages on the FA and GA pages for people to self-serve, but they didn't, so in the meantime we might have to end up with lots of stuff from areas I'm interested in. I could have added some more Tran Dynasty articles but they were unevenly spread and some of them clashed with some better quality VN articles already on the same day YellowMonkey (vote in the Southern Stars and White Ferns supermodel photo poll) 06:26, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"Driveby nom"[edit]

Can you please explain what a "driveby nom" is and why it is not acceptable? I saw you use the phrase and an unfamiliar with it. Thanks, Kansan (talk) 02:31, 29 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's when a person not really involved in the building or cleanup of the article just nominates something. Usually these articles are way below standard, because if it has been worked on properly the authro will nominate it YellowMonkey (vote in the Southern Stars and White Ferns supermodel photo poll) 04:18, 29 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

GA review for Tinh Xa Trung Tam[edit]

I've reviewed the article and left notes on the talk page. I've put the nomination on hold for seven days to allow the issues to be addressed. Feel free to contact me on my talk page, here, or on the article talk page with any concerns, and let me know one of those places when the issues have been addressed. If I may suggest that you strike out, check mark, or otherwise mark the items I've detailed, that will make it possible for me to see what's been addressed, and you can keep track of what's been done and what still needs to be worked on. Stephens City FAC[edit]

Hello YM, I have replied to your questions on the FAC page. Please let me know if you have anything you would like me to add, remove, tinker with, or work on, as I will be glad to. I will be up for awhile (I am a night owl) so if you have anything, let me know and I will get it done tonight. :) Take Care...NeutralhomerTalk • 03:26, 27 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oh well, some guys like PericelsOfAthens write a whole heap but their aarticles are so long. Re: Zelda FAR[edit]

Not really sure. I don't have time to thoroughly inspect it for the next couple of days, but I'd tentatively say to delist. I think it will gather more attention as a FFA, and it needs some basic building in areas, not just polish. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs(talk) 21:27, 30 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

QCQ request[edit]

I'll try to get to it either tomorrow or Thursday, but I unfortunately can't do it tonight. There's an article I want to review that's slipped into the older nominations, and every time I leave an article like that for another day it seems to get archived before I get a chance to look at it. Will Beback has raised concerns that User:Edith Sirius Lee is in fact User:Lumiere/User:Étincelle/user:-Lumière. Could you do a checkuser on the three accounts that are blocked against User:Edith Sirius Lee, please? Thanks. - NeutralhomerTalk • 06:28, 6 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unblock request of Quigley[edit]

Hello YellowMonkey. Quigley (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log), whom you have blocked, is requesting to be unblocked. The request for unblock is on hold while waiting for a comment from you. Regards,  Sandstein  20:00, 12 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well, if you look at his edits, it's rather obvious that he editing in the equivalent way of a Chinese Communist Party internet policeman, blanking anything negative to the CCP etc, and engaging in POV-pushing and synthesis/OR for said purpose, eg Buddhist terrorism and the AFD, Genocides in history and so forth...And yes he has been warned about POV pushing on his talk page before, by another user YellowMonkey (new photo poll) 08:00, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, it's not obvious to me, and I can't see any warnings about this in their talk page history. Could you please provide a few diffs of edits that you think exemplify this POV-pushing, as well as the diff of any relevant warning?  Sandstein  10:04, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

1920-21 Burnley F.C. season[edit]

Seeing as the autobiography thing has sort of killed the Willie Irvine FAC, I've gon back to my previous efforts on the 1920–21 Burnley F.C. season. However, it was you that put paid to that one so I thought I'd check here before wasting my time returning to FAC again. Would you be able to have a check through the article to see if it meets your (IMO outrageous) standards? I've tried to address the comments you made before, so would be interested to see what you think. By the way, books about Burnley in the 1920s still don't exist, and they never will. Cheers, BigDom 11:14, 4 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I'm actually not harsh at all; the sports reviewers are not firm and many stubby North Americans sports stuff gets past all the time. Luckily for those guys, the main rigorous guys on FA don't go for sport, usually, except Brianboulton getting stuck in. Still I see heaps of cricket articles by the likes of Sarastro1 that are very detailed eg Wally Hammond, Douglas Jardine and Wilfred Rhodes, with plenty of quality books. Things could be worse, if you anger a guy like Fowler&fowler (talk · contribs). He followed dineshkannambadi (talk · contribs) to each of his FACs and posted 50k oppose comments everywhere, saying that every sentence was wrong. DK then retired. Yes I'll have a look YellowMonkey (vote in the Southern Stars and White Ferns supermodel photo poll) 01:31, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. You can hardly compare England international test cricketers to footballers who spent a years at a couple of small town football clubs; there's obviously going to be more books and sources for the cricketers. Nobody cared enough to document the early lives of Burnley players, so maybe I should give up all hope of ever getting one to FA standard. Same with the Burnley seasons - the only thing that's available is the results of matches, there's no in-depth analysis etc. BigDom 13:05, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
True, that's why I don't bother to try and FAC non-international players if I can only find stats about them, but that's just my preference YellowMonkey (vote in the Southern Stars and White Ferns supermodel photo poll) 02:58, 6 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Anniversaries[edit]

This was Rhodes' 1,000th match, but doesn't say anywhere, only able to find it by searching for fc matches on player oracle, so I'm not too sure how to reference it. The only thing jumping out for Wally is when he had a load of runs, wickets and catches in one week in 1928, but it was only f-c, so not too notable. --Sarastro1 (talk) 07:29, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

ah, well just cite it to the oracle list and the reader and count down 1000 or up 100 odd to verify it, and add the date, and a note/cite that Rhodes is the only 1000-capped player and it'll be reserved on the main page. I've put up Hutton's 364 for Aug 23, and Jardine winning the Ashes. Pity about Wally :( unless you can think of a good pun YellowMonkey (vote in the Southern Stars and White Ferns supermodel photo poll) 07:34, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Contest[edit]

Hi, YellowMonkey, I'm busy verifying the enteries in the Mil hist article contest for July. I've moved a few of yours from the 31 July scoring period to the August scoring period as they hadn't received an assessment in July. Rather than simply scoring 0 pts in July and affecting your contest average, I thought it best just to enter them in the next contest as they will be eligible for points there if they are assessed in August. Please let me know if this an issue. Cheers. AustralianRupert (talk) 10:43, 7 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
