Much better

Yes. Careless of me. Navy looks much better on Template:User Penn State. Thanks.
Are you considering attending PSU? -Xanderer 03:32, 3 April 2006 (UTC)

  • Not really (A little too far from where I live). I just figured that at least the Big Ten schools should have college templates, so I was looking around to see which schools didn't.--Wizardman 03:35, 3 April 2006 (UTC)

On March 25, you created the article Robert Brooks (congressman), which indicates that Brooks is a congressman from Colorado. I could find no verification that Robert Brooks is in Congress - specifically, he is not listed on the U.S. House of Representatives] website. If this is an error, please request a speedy delete (placing {{db-g7}} on the page) - a request by the author for a page with no further edits. —ERcheck @ 23:26, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

  • AFD is not required since you are the sole author on the article. If you put {{db-g7}} on the page, it will indicate that you, as the author, created the article in error and are requesting deletion. Thanks. —ERcheck @ 23:34, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

2005 NFL Draft

I see your concern. However, note that I wasn't the one who added the color changes in the first place; it was only added after 2005 NFL Draft went through a FLC (which incidently just got promoted today). I did however think that the change was for the better; it made the list seem more attractive. However, this is a very debatable opinion and I won't press it. However, if your only concern is that all the other pages will need to be changes; well, that can be taken care of. Anyhow, in the future, please use edit summaries, whether your change is major or minor. Also, I see from your user page that you are working on fixing the NFL Draft pages. Since the 2005 Draft page was promoted, that opens the way for other draft pages to be promoted. Per the discussion on the FLC page, there is no problem with 40+ articles being featured lists, as long as they fit the criteria. Since your interested in working on the draft pages (as am I), would you like to work together and try to fix up these draft pages? Pepsidrinka 00:38, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

Re 2006 NFL Draft players

Im creating stubs for each player into the 3rd round as they are most likely to play for the NFL. After the 3rd round not really. Thanks Jaranda wat's sup 22:59, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

I'm gonna do it anyway, I'm a NASCAR fan, and I'm just bored because of the rain delay lol.. just using a common template and editing names/teams/colleges.

Hey, Wizardman. I saw that you recently prodded the Parma Witch Hunt article, and I thought I'd mention that the anonymous chief contributor to the article has agreed to allow the article to be converted into a redirect back to the main. Unless you object to this, I'm going to go ahead and do that. AmiDaniel (talk) 22:55, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

Derekone message

How come you are saying that I'm vandelizing this website, you need to see carefully what I'm doing and then send me a message. that is not nice on your behalf? What are you "writing last warning anyways" if you check carefully in my contributions you see that i'm not here to bandelize. User:Derekone

Please do not simply remove speedy deletion notices from articles -- if you want to dispute a speedy deletion, then follow the instructions given in the speedy deletion box. This particular article has been deleted a number of times before -- hence the justification for the deletion: Wikipedia:Criteria_for_speedy_deletion, G4, Recreation of deleted material. I put it up for AFD again, but I fully expect it to be speedy deleted anyway. - Motor (talk) 13:38, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

Ohio Civil War regiments

Thanks for your comments on the 1st Ohio Infantry article. Dyer and Reid are the two main resources to use for information on Ohio regiments, officers, battles, and related subjects. They may have copies of these in the B-W library for you to use as a reference for future articles. If not, then the Cleveland Public Library should have them. Take a look, and have a go at creating more articles. Scott Mingus 12:01, 19 June 2006 (UTC) (a former resident of Lake County, Ohio)

WizardMan - I have also created a page for the 2nd OVI and will continue to add more periodically. Scott Mingus 23:44, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

I don't understand why you deleted the word Regiment from the 155th OVI article -- if you look at the References, External links, the extracts from Dyer's book, and the article itself, it clearly was the 155th Regiment. David 21:03, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

David, the Wiki Military History Project team members have been trying to standardize the format, name, style and other attributes of all Civil War articles (a daunting task, I might add). There is a preferred style guide on User:Hlj page, which we try to follow. The convention is to title articles as XXth State Infantry (e.g. 155th Ohio Infantry). Each state had different "official" names (155th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry), but for consistency from article to article, the administrators and project team decided to use the standard convention. What WizardMan did was in line with the Wiki naming convention. Scott Mingus 23:44, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

Catsorting

Hi, I notice you added Category:Living people to Nick Mangold ([1]). Can I suggest that you also add a catsort tag (family name then first name, like this: [[Category:Living people|Mangold, Nick]]) so that it's properly organised in the category? All the best, Ziggurat 21:21, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi again - oo, crikey, hundreds? I normally wander through Category:Living people finding unsorted articles, so if it's too big a job I'm sure it's fine if you leave it for other people to sort out. I was offering more of a suggestion for future categorization than a request to edit all the previous ones! Thanks for the response, Ziggurat 03:08, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

Date Links

Hello, I was wondering what the rationale was behind adding date links to articles - it seems we are having a dispute over whether the article Paul Reubens needs them or not. From what I understand from editing many other pages on TV shows, date links are widely considered undesirable on Wikipedia because it does not necessarily link to something important. Your thoughts?

Parma edits

Hello. Hemto had begun to compromise by eliminating the material on the pet stores from the economy section. The mall is important enough to the city to remain, the demographic information is fact and comes from a recent Almanac (the small decline in safety listing), and the history section concerns THE biggest news story for the city for several years. The rest of us have agreed to concede and compromise on the pet store section and to allow for a greatly reduced economy section of the page, as well as to eliminate the seemingly biased current status and future outlook section, but the other old and new material should not be contested and going along with Mycroft's blanket deletions and reverts will just persist the edit debate. The whole history section has been GREATLY toned down, referenced, ect. from its original versions. Compromises should not be one-sided. Thanks and Happy Halloween! --172.163.102.252 01:12, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for helping categorize the backlog of uncategorized pages! We have a lot of work and any efforts are much appreciated. Please remember, however, to remove the uncat template from articles you categorized, otherwise they don't show up as done. Thanks again! Crystallina 03:40, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

About my escapade with the categories. I looked right after I did that, which was last night (PST), and saw that. Should have looked into it before I acted. List of fictional books

Hi Wizardman -- you were kind enough to take the time to respond to the Featured List nomination for List of fictional books. It failed to make the cut pretty resoundingly, so it's been subbed for a peer review. Any detailed comments or suggestions you'd care to offer would be welcome at it's peer review section. Thanks! --Bookgrrl 19:28, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

"Geography-stub"

Hi Wizardman - silly question, but is there any reason you're using {{geography-stub}} rather than the far shorter {{geo-stub}} to stub articles? I only ask because, although they do the same job at the moment, it's likely that the geography-stub redirect will get used for something else soon (there's a proposal for a stub type relating to the science of geography). it also seems you're making a little bit more work for yourself with the longer name! Grutness...wha? 00:27, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

Wikiproject Biography

Hey. Just wondering, i was lookign through the full list of the articles in Wikiproject Biography, and the list keeps breaking up. Every time I try to fix it, another section of notes for someone messes up the table. I them noticed each time that the notes you're putting in when you're discussing your rating choice are apparently messign up the table. Basically, it you look here: Wikipedia:Version_1.0_Editorial_Team/Biography_articles_by_quality/5 and get to the point where the table stops, you'll see what I'm talking about. My main questions are if you were aware of this, and if not, how could the format be fixed without removing your stuff completely? You seem to put a lot of time in each one so I don't want to remove them, but they're also messing up the numbers of each kind of bio on the main page. --Wizardman 05:37, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

  • I was not aware of this, thanks for pointing it out. Not being much of a programmer, I do not know what in my syntax causes the problem. I was trying to respond to the request to document "present staus" and progress. There is nothing sacred to me about how the information is presented, and if you or others could suggest a better way, I will use it and modify what is out there. stilltim 11:50, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Did you know

Updated DYK query On 6 December, 2006, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article John Baldwin (founder), which you created. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

--GeeJo (t)(c) • 22:28, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

DYK update frequency

Did you know is updated a maximum of once every six hours. It really just depends on whether an admin is around at the right time or not; I've seen the section go for 35 hours without an update before, though it tends to be around 7-8 nowadays. GeeJo (t)(c) • 15:44, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

No problem. I'm still getting used to the assessment criteria, so I appreciate the help. - AdelaMae (t - c - wpn) 05:12, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

Thames Vallely Request for Deletion

Hi I have left the following comment for you at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Thames_Valley_College. To be clear the disambiguation page is completely unrelated to the page being considered for deletion

The message left was: "Sorry, but you are mistaken. Maybe the comment at the top of the page was a bit too ambiguous, I have therefore changed it. The original article was moved to Thames Valley College (London, Ontario, Canada), by TruthbringerToronto and that has created confusion. Can I please ask that you revise your vote with this new information in mind." -*- u:Chazz/contact/t: 12:00, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

Abdul Hafeez (English cricketer) and other cricket bios

Hello. Could you please not change "england" to "England" in external Cricinfo links in cricket-related articles. As you can see by comparing this to this, it does actually make a difference, and the lower-case version is what we've standardised on. Thanks! Loganberry (Talk) 13:13, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply; it's appreciated. It's true that the main statistical part of the page is the same for each version, but what I was referring to was the list of links down the left-hand side - that includes a specific "England" section near the top of the page that the capitalised link does not. Loganberry (Talk) 23:12, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

List of Mario Party mini-games has been proposed for deletion. An editor felt the subject might not be notable enough for an article. Please review Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability for the relevant concerns. An example of notability guidelines can be found at Wikipedia:Notability (websites). If you can improve the article to address these concerns, please do so.

If no one objects to the deletion within five days by removing the "prod" notice, the article may be deleted without further discussion. If you remove the prod notice, the deletion process will stop, but if an editor is still not satisfied that the article meets Wikipedia guidelines, it may be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion for consensus. Your WP:RfA comment

I readily acknowledge I added additional detail in response to other editor's comments. Folks requested additional detail on what tools I'd use as an administrator and why I'd use them, so I attempted to answer their questions. Your certainly free to interpret my doing this as you see fit. My original comments were out of desire for brevity, not out of any lack of intention to use the mop to do work. I appreciate your taking the time to participate and comment in my RfA and I value your feedback. Best, --Shirahadasha 06:35, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

3 mins, that was fast... feydey 00:07, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

I understand two of the three objections you've raised, but I still have some questions:

  • Why do you feel the article lacks references? Six different references are listed, and in my experience, professional athletes in mid/early-career don't have much in the way of heavy text references that get the most respect. The majority of the information is readily available in the external links; so I fail to see the problem.
  • The other two objections (lack of proper lead, lack of images} seem to me to be the more easily correctable superficial problems, as the bulk of the article IMO is pretty decent.

Anyways, I tend to agree that peer review is the way to go. I wasn't really sure how the good article process compared to the FA process. --Scimitar 20:48, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your support

Thank you for your support in the RfA on my behalf. It is an honor to have received your expression of confidence. To be chosen as an administrator requires a high level of confidence by a broad section of the community. Although I received a great deal of support, at this time I do not hold the level of confidence required, and the RfA did not pass. It is my wish that I will continue to deserve your confidence. Sincerely, --BostonMA talk 22:13, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

Ya might want to revise your "moral support" in some way, now that the RfA has more support than opposition, and is continuing to move in that direction. :-) Grandmasterka 05:55, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks

thanks for the tip on the semi-protection of the horse article, but so far the bottom line is most vandalism comes from different IPs each time...lots of newbies and kids, I suspect. We have a problem with what one wikipedian called the "tee hee" effect. This is one of those articles that people vandalize just because they think they're being funny. It's usually a waste of time to warn these types of IP unless it's the same one. Sigh. But thanks again. Montanabw 01:21, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

Horse article

Thanks for helping keep an eye on the horse article. Seems totally random if we get protection or not, sometimes we ask and get it, sometimes we don't. And even when we get it, someone else removes it within a week or so, but it's an article getting constant, steady hits of the same nonsense, usually from one-time IP addresses. It really needs permanent protection. Don't know why people seem to think that a horse's face should be compared to those of ugly humans or why people have such interest in the anatomy of the male horse <grin> but seems that those are pretty persistent themes <sigh>, <yawn>. Semi-protection would save everyone a lot of work. Let me know if you have any ideas for getting the powers that be to see things our way. Thanks! Montanabw 18:15, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

Editor review

Thanks for having requested an editor review. A month has passed since it has been posted there, and it has been archived. Lee Smith comments

Thanks for giving me some suggestions on things to improve for the article. I will get on it as soon as possible. As for the image, I'm not totally sure what I should do. I uploaded the image under fair use, and I contacted some fellow admins on the issue, but I guess Jaranda still felt it was not proper. Since this player was not one who is totally well-remembered nowadays, I don't think I can really find a picture anytime soon. However, I do have a baseball card of him, and maybe I could take a picture of that. Nishkid64 02:35, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

A lot of people frown on baseball card pictures no matter how much fair use criteria you attach. Smith seems a little hard to pin down lately. If he was a pitching coach somewhere, we could try to find someone to take a picture of him... —Wknight94 (talk) 03:14, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

I've tidied up the structure and prose of the article, but refs in the lead aren't a requirement. There are many FAs without refs in the lead as the lead is considered to be just a summary of the article, where any facts are referenced in the body.

Anyway, as I think the article is now up to scratch, I was wondering if you'd consider taking another look at the article? Readro 23:08, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

I've also had a look through it, and can't see any problems with structure or writing. It seems clear and informative to me. This either means there are no problems, or that Readro and I are too close to the topic to spot them ;) Either way, your view would be welcome! 4u1e 23:12, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

I guess I also feel like I have all the tools I need to keep building the areas of the encyclopedia that I've been working on. Maybe that'll change someday, but not yet... :) thanks. -/- Warren 01:01, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

Big Ten Conference Wikiproject

Hello...just wanted to let you know that I joined your new wikiproject. If you want me to do anything in particular, just leave a message on my talkpage. By the way, I used the Big Ten Conference logo in the member userbox, and I am not entirely sure whether I can use it due to the free-use and copyright issues. If we are not allowed to use it, please remove it from the template, or just let me know. Thanks! Lordmontu (talk) (contribs) 02:01, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

How in depth are we tagging? Are we to include stadiums/arenas of Big Ten schools, or coaches or players in the Big Ten? Or are we trying to keep it simple? Lordmontu (talk) (contribs) 05:10, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

Rfa

How did little ol me get your eye for Rfa?Rlevse 02:54, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

I'm flattered. I'll have to think this over.Rlevse 03:01, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
    • I decline at this time. I may reconsider in 4-6 weeks.Rlevse 02:41, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi Wizardman,

I realise you've already given a third opinion on Kriss Donald, but I feel the issues in the dispute have been clarified by further discussion and am requesting that you comment further on this matter in light of recent developments. While the alleged OR or non-NPOV phrasing of certain passages may be an issue, I feel discussion is more crucially needed on interpretations of NPOV, particularly regarding the terms "prominent" and "tiny minority", and whether NPOV equates to mainstream point of view. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Kriss_Donald#The_causes_of_the_dispute.3B_fresh_call_for_third_opinions

Wizardman, thanks for responding to my request asking for a rating, but you didn't leave any comments. It would help if I knew why you gave Ellis Paul a B rating. Kmzundel 17:23, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

Wizardman, per your comments I have done substantial editing. Please take another look and leave comment and/or rating. Thanks again. Kmzundel 11:08, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

Re: Re: Rfa

Thanks for the successful nomination, and thanks for monitoring the Rfa and keeping it up-to-date. feydey 01:35, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

Do you not even bother to read edit comments from users on IP acconts before blind reverting them? Apronym is a mere neologism created by just some nonnotable website and not something that meets any Wikipedia criteria for inclusion. See[ Wikipedia:Neologism. Please try to pay attention to your edits before assuming that anyone on an IP account is a vandal. 216.165.144.240 01:38, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

OK, you REALLY need top back off, as yo have no clue at all what you are doing here, based upon your comment on my talk page.

"Apronym" per the very article in question, says it was invented in 2003 by Apronym Forums = WHOLLY RIDICULOUS NEOLOGISM OF NO NOTABILITY WHATSOEVER. You claim that what it was redirected to "Aptronym" looks like more of a neologism, except the person who created that term did so ALMOST A CENTURY AGO so that lots of sources have heard of it. Do you not get that the whole concept of neologism, is, well, how new it is?? Go read Wikipedia:Neologism and stop undoing edits you clearly do not understand. DreamGuy 01:49, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

Note that I put this article up for AfD and it got deleted, which means this comment is in fact amusing.Wizardman

Template for adminsphip

Hello, Wizardman! When you nominated Feydey to be an administrator, you put a template on his/her talk page. What is the code for that template? Kamope | userpage | talk | contributions 02:27, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

My RFA

Hey, thanks so much for supporting my recent RFA. A number of editors considered that I wasn't ready for the mop yet and unfortunately the RFA did not succeed (69/26/11). There are a number of areas which I will be working on (including changing my username) in the next few months in order to allay the fears of those who opposed my election to administrator.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you sincerely for your support over the past week. I've been blown away by the level of interest taken in my RFA and appreciate the time and energy dedicated by all the editors who have contributed to it, support, oppose and neutral alike. I hope to bump into you again soon and look forward to serving you and Wikipedia in any way I can. Cheers! The Rambling Man 19:13, 11 January 2007 (UTC) (the non-admin, formerly known as Budgiekiller)

Thank you also for being generous enough to reconsider your vote. I know that to properly research each RFA takes time and I'm extremely grateful for your open-minded and fair approach. The Rambling Man 19:13, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
