About sensomusic Usine[edit]

hello, just few comments about Usine,

Usine is a young soft (a year) and has a 2000 users community which increase around 20% each month... How can you decide that it's not a 'notable' soft?

I'm a spammer because I've included a link on max/msp page? If you look at the French version you will see that the page contains around 10 links to related softwares... So on the English version of the article I have only reproduce the same kind of link. If I resume the 'related software' section is allowed in French but not in English? It's not a problem but I didn't know! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sensomusic (talkcontribs) 14:39, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Also the article has been rewritten to fit to 'wiki spirit'.

Regards Olivier Sens —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sensomusic (talkcontribs) 14:37, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • The problem is that Sensomusic usine has not been written about by any reliable publications, which is where we get most article information from. Please see WP:RS for why reliable sources are necessary for Wikipedia articles. Wickethewok (talk) 22:33, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Recovering Articles[edit]

Hello Wickethewok, Can you help me recover some deleted gamecruft articles from User:Proto/gc and other sources. I am using them for Encyclopedia Gamia and cant access them since I am not an admin :( --Cs california (talk) 07:12, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Sure thing, what articles do you need specifically? Wickethewok (talk) 08:56, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks It would be helpful if you had a wikia account too I just want to start with these ones if possible. If you import them list them here [1]

Sorry for the messy list. Thanks again! This may take lots of time unless you can run a script. --Cs california (talk) 17:04, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • That is quite a few, so it may take awhile for me to get a chance to do all of these. If you want them sooner, it might be better to post over at deletion review as temporary/userspace undeletion. Wickethewok (talk) 03:32, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I can make a sub page on my user page if that works. Just do them slowly. --Cs california (talk) 12:57, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

requested move[edit]

Hey Wicket, slight admin scenario here... I tried to move bassline (dance music) to bassline house earlier, but couldn't since bassline house used to be a redirect to UK garage before the article was created. I moved it to its current title from bassline (music) because that was a bit misleading, but having read several sources while writing the article it seems "bassline house" is widely in use, and "bassline" is just a shortened form, and it does seem to make sense not to have a dab modifier in the article title, though I can't find a guideline in WP:NC to support this... in any case, firstly, would you regard this as a non-controversial move or would you advise taking it to RM? If you don't think it's an issue, could you delete bassline house to make way? Cheers, - Zeibura (Talk) 01:45, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Done. I think its non-controversial. It is indeed preferable to have non-disambiguated pages, which is somewhere in the MoS. Wickethewok (talk) 03:27, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted Article[edit]

Hi, I was wondering if I could get a copy of the deleted article:

19:25, 6 October 2006 Wickethewok (Talk | contribs) deleted "Quizardry.com"

I'd like to make a new page for this site, but cannot find a summary of why it was deleted. Cheers

Karengpve (talk) 22:42, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • The article was deleted because of it was marked as "likely failure of WP:WEB" and was deleted through the WP:PROD process. Additionally, the article read like an advertisement. If you have secondary reliable sources (eg. newspaper/magazine reviews about the site or something like that), then you can create a page on it. If you do not know how, there is a tutorial here: Help:Starting a new page. Wickethewok (talk) 01:21, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Amidst the Raindrops[edit]

Sorry to ask, but I haven't been able to find if you have this song available elsewhere on the net. Can you put me down for a copy of "Amidst the Raindrops" too at capsule7.1@netzero.com ?

I understand it may be something you're saving so if that's the case then that's completely OK. I myself am new to electronic music making, and there are very few electronic songs I desire to save, this being one of them (from what I've heard).

If you have a music account somewhere then a link there would be just as fine,

thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by RaceGT (talkcontribs) 10:50, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deep Crow[edit]

I saw your post on Deep Crow's deletion page; I figured if you were worrying, I'd give a reminder that the Deep Crow is actually mentioned at the end of Gabriel's paragraph and has an external link to the second comic (the funny one with the electrician). I'm personally hoping it gets mentioned a third time to give it a position as a minor character. Pylze (talk) 22:53, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Amidst the Raindrops[edit]

I was just glancing through other posts & found that many, like me, have found your "Amidst the Raindrops" tracks to be absolutely wonderful. The music is so heavenly & hypnotic that it simply takes you to another world. Could you please mail me the full length track to my email id @ kaushik.dhar@gmail.com

Since you are into electronic & ambient genre, could you please suggest me some other tracks similar to "Amidst the Raindrops"? Like something in the line of Telefon Tel Aviv's "Fahrenheit Fair Enough" ...where a steady melody is being looped constantly and diverse percussion & beats are thrown to it. Something like your track Amidst the Raindrops.

Thanks & much appreciated.

Hello! :) In 2006, Hsing-sing was apparently proposed for deletion. At the time, there was no suitable page for this article to be redirected to, so you deleted the article. Updating the Lynda Benglis Article[edit]

Hello, I am a long time Wikipedia Reader who would like to contribute to the Arts Project. This is my first article I would like to edit. I studied art extensively in school, moving through painting, art history, and finishing in Digital Media. Anyway, I would like to update the page to account for her video work, her current work, and a more nuanced discussion of her role in feminism and art history. I will cite all sources and would like to continue refining some articles, before maybe starting some of my own. My wife and I have a large collection of art scholarship and education, and I would love to share it with the Wikipedia community.

Still Working on Lynda Benglis Entry[edit]

Hey, I just got a copy of Challenging Art: ARTFORUM 1962-1974 by Amy Newman(2000), it contains a pretty extensive and contemporary discussion of Benglis's work as it relates to the Artforum ad. I am setting up a subpage with the changes and additions I would like to make. Would you mind reviewing it before I post it? It is my first edit and it seems like it will be extensive. I hope it is the first of many successful and community involved edits and updates. I put my user page up, check it out. BTC deletion[edit]

Curious how your 'notable contributions' have nothing to do with webcomics, comics, or internet culture. Yet you consider yourself qualified to deem webcomics 'non-notable'. I could say likewise for several dozen ultra-obscure baseball players, but hey, I don't go parading around like I know everything about everything. Actions like deleting the wiki article on an up-and-coming webcomic such as 'Bigger than Cheeses' only furthers anger and hatred across the internet. BTC doesn't have a fanbase entirely composed of morons so I doubt Wikipedia has copped much flak over this, but still, actions like this have caused flame wars in the past. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.206.243.195 (talk) 06:16, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • I assume you are referring to the deletion of an article that occurred almost two years ago. If you are actually concerned about this and don't just want to yell at the internet, you are welcome to take a look at WP:V and see that Wikipedia articles should rely on reputable third party sources - at the time I don't believe there were any on this subject. If this has changed, I invite you to either go to deletion review or start a new article which cites reputable, independent sources (the Achewood article for example cites Time and the AV Club as sources). Dozens of other webcomics articles manage to do this, so I see no reason to believe there's a bias. Wickethewok (talk) 17:43, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Harmonic Mixing article[edit]

Hi Wickethewok,

I'm commenting on the harmonic mixing article. You suggested a previous revision because harmonic mixing is a technique, not a company.

You are partially correct. Harmonic mixing (using that specific term) was coined by Mark Davis, the creator of Harmonic-Mixing.com. He created the Camelot wheel, found here: http://www.Harmonic-Mixing.com/HowTo.aspx It's the industry standard for harmonic mixing. Additionally, the Harmonic-Mixing.com website has been online since 1998 according to WebArchive.org.

Based on our survey of thousands of Mixed In Key customers, 94% use the Camelot notation and the Camelot wheel for harmonic mixing. This technique is described on the http://Harmonic-Mixing.com website, as well as http://www.MixedInKey.com/HowTo.aspx, and http://www.mixshare.com/wiki/doku.php?id=mixing_harmonically I believe it's an oversight to exclude the Camelot system. Every top DJ who's using Mixed In Key is also using the Camelot system for easy mixing.

I propose the following:

1) Add the link to Harmonic-Mixing.com using your own template

2) Reference (or better yet, explain) how the Camelot wheel works to simplify harmonic mixing

3) Cite the acquisition as a recent development -- it has the same level of importance as other news items in the "Recent Developments" section

Would you be OK with that?

Thank you, Yakov —Preceding unsigned comment added by Djyakov (talkcontribs) 07:02, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • If you want to write an article about a company called Harmonic-Mixing, I suggest you create a new article for it. If you want to put in information about this company, note that it should be from a source independent of their website (not a press release or something written by them). Something like a music mag article or interview by someone unaffiliated with this company would suffice. Do not use an infobox with the company info in the harmonic mixing article though - it makes it appear as if the article's main subject. Also, if you could find something independent that says this guy Davis came up with the phrase "harmonic mixing" that would be good, too. The concept of harmonic mixing (or key mixing or whatever else it can be called) though has been around for awhile (at least ~1990 or so), so I'm a little dubious that this guy coined the phrase. Information Depth[edit]

Hi Wickethewok, I just want to know how much depth is allowed in articles of wikipedia? I found many of the San Francisco Politician articles to include bias information that is POV and was wondering how much what is the limit on depth. Such as should candidates decision not to run for an office position be included? and should job descriptions, endorsements, bills that they passed or authored/ their descriptions be included?--Cs california (talk) 12:23, 23 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • There isn't any magic rule, but from my interpretation of WP guidelines, but if you are unsure as to whether something a political figure did was notable, I would go by whether multiple reliable sources covered a particular event. If a candidate said they were not running for office, was it noteworthy enough to have been written about by multiple publications in non-trivial depth? I would think that bills that they passed could be of interest if they were actively involved in creating the bill or if publications make special note of it. Stuff like job descriptions I would expect would be mainly in the article about that position - though if the position is particularly obscure or unique, I don't think it would be harmful to briefly state what position they occupy. Wickethewok (talk) 15:09, 23 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Seems like most political figures use their job description to make POV points for examples:
As XXX John Doe helped drug addicts, emergency services, tenants, consumers, unions, the environment ...etc. (This seems to present a POV argument since it says helps but not how.)
John Doe has one of the best track record in getting his bills (Note: "has one of the best track record" was not compared to any other individual and using the word "best" seems to give a bias perspective)
Also I found some things that are copy paste from candidate's websites or referenced to their websites, which creates a bias point of view which definitely supports them. A example of a good NPOV article I would say is Angela Beesley founder of wikia (Note that it does not quote from Angela's blog). I think this is becoming a trend since people can use wikipedia for mud slinging and candidate promotions. --Cs california (talk) 06:42, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • I absolutely agree that these things are POV and should be removed or modified into NPOV. If you want to try enlisting others to help you clean up CA politics articles, Wikipedia:WikiProject Politics might be a good place to find people with similar areas of knowledge. Wickethewok (talk) 15:51, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the info. I will see if I can get help monitoring some of the things--Cs california (talk) 04:40, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, in November 2006 you deleted Guecubu and Sibriex because the PRODs on them expired. I was wondering if you would mind restoring the articles and redirecting them to Demon (Dungeons & Dragons) to preserve edit histories? Thanks!  :) BOZ (talk) 05:03, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, sir! :) BOZ (talk) 14:21, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

One more thing - I've asked you to do a few of these in the past, and you've always been helpful. I decided to check the deletion log to see whatever other D&D article PRODs you may have taken care of, and it looks like you did all of them on the same day (most likely, the same user PRODded them all in the first place). It looks like there are only two left, Laghathti and Uzollru. I'm not entirely sure where those should be redirected to, but could you also restore the articles and I can have a look and see where they should go? Thanks! BOZ (talk) 14:35, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • It looks like they were both demons like the last couple of articles, so I restored the history and redirected. Also, I see that at Demon_(Dungeons_&_Dragons)#Types_of_Demons, there is a list of articles with similar issues to these ones that were deleted before. Either they should be improved with WP:RS/WP:V-qualifying sources or their information should be merged somewhere and they should be redirected/deleted. They've been tagged for ~6 months, but the problems haven't really been addressed. Wickethewok (talk) 16:10, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again - I'm going to be taking a look at all of those soon.  :) BOZ (talk) 19:04, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My uncited edits[edit]

Hello sir.

I have recently made some uncited edits under the IP address 86.7.31.118. I realise that not logging in and not adding citations was lazy and I will cite my sources from now on. I have restored my addition of John Digweed's real name, with a citation. I hope you agree that this enhances the article. I have read your Talk page and I share your value of reliable sources. My next task is to locate and correct the pages that I edited anonymously. It seems that you had no trouble doing this! Nightmares on wax[edit]

As i know you have a love for dance music i thought i would bring this to your attention http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nightmares_on_Wax just wanted to bring up the point that Kevin Harper one of the founding members of Unique 3 was in Nightmares on wax from the start infact he left unique 3 to live in leeds when he met the other guy, however kevin is not given any credit on the page, i feel it is very unfair to take all the credit for somthing someone ells helps you with. if you are interested i will see what i can find on Kevin harper, this case is very much like that of Bahar, some one ells taking all the credit but only providing part of the work. Bahar was not give the credit on 10 Records but on the Chill mix that was the first releas his name can be found, im sure you know how record labels dont always get all the facts correct, its just that mistakes happen in all things. i too have a love for dance music and hope i will always seek to provide reliable information

--Radicalthinker (talk) 23:43, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • As I said before, I am not disputing the notability/verifiability of an article about the group Unique 3. I am disputing the article about David Bahar, who seems to be only tangentially related to Unique 3. You need to show that there is reliable information out there about David Bahar, not Unique 3. RitchieWiki Article and entry in List of Wikis Listing.[edit]

Hi Wickethewok,

I've recreated the RitchieWiki article (it was originally deleted due to propaganda speak at the time of the site's launch (not my edit!), however, the site now has appropriate notability as a reference site for that niche industry. I'm re adding the reference in the list of wiki's page. Feel free to contact me if you have any objections/suggestions.

For every category you create, you should specify parent categories to which it belongs. You do this by listing the parents near the bottom of the page, each enclosed in double brackets like so:

[[Category:Albums by artist]]
[[Category:Parent2]]

Wiki1001 link[edit]

Hi Wickethewok, it seems you removed the external link "Wiki1001.com – a directory of wikis that anyone can edit" from the article "List of wikis" at 18:11, 22 February 2009. Could you explain why you removed it? I think Wiki1001, along with the other external links, helps readers explore a more expanded list of wikis than those shown within the article. I guess I don't understand how the other external links are deemed appropriate while Wiki1001 is not. Thanks. Derekwwww (talk) 17:20, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • It's just that there are so many of these type of things (wikis listing wikis) out there. If you can ensure that it meets WP:EL, you can re-add it. Wickethewok (talk) 17:23, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • While I agree that there are many wiki lists out there, most of them are selective (i.e. only a handful of wikis are included), or are subject specific (e.g. only for encyclopedia wikis, only for religious wikis), or are wiki engine specific (e.g. only MediaWiki wikis). Wiki1001 and WikiIndex (already on the External Links) are the only comprehensive lists of wikis that I am aware of. They list all wikis, not a subset of them. Therefore, I think they are helpful to readers who want to explore a more expanded list of wikis than those shown within the article. I believe WP:EL guidelines are met, and I have added back Wiki1001 to the external links. Cheers Derekwwww (talk) 20:14, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, ok, I had some doubts if I can use the mix (File:Tudor Tulok - sample from 'Old Vibes Mix'.ogg) of two songs on wikipedia, but could you please very yourself if the following files are ok for wikipedia:

If you want you can put the deletion log on the File:Tudor Tulok - sample from 'Old Vibes Mix'.ogg, or I'll put it myself. Thank you --TudorTulok (talk) 21:47, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I notice you've removed the example I inserted ([4]). Don't you agree a reference to the discussion there would be useful? Rp (talk) 19:09, 30 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Genres by bpm list on electronic dance music article[edit]

Hey wicket. Since you've contributed to this article lots, could you give any light on the current section on genres? I must have had to revert that quote from hillage and giraudy's article over a hundred times now from people adding more genres (thus WP:SYN), and have added an editors note above it which has become completely obnoxious and people still don't get it.. it's just getting impossible. Fact is, that list is slightly out of date and there's probably a better way of explaining the different genres. verifiably. - filelakeshoe 20:03, 4 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'm with you - it really is a friggin' pain that people refuse to read no matter how big you put the text. Should we just maybe remove the source entirely? Wickethewok (talk) 22:54, 4 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Flash Brothers[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Flash Brothers, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

non-notable music act

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. neon white talk 15:42, 7 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks....[edit]

...for tidying up my sloppy addition to The Orb. I'm Andy Thomas and I knew Andy Falconer and Richard (forgotten his family name) the tape-op at the time of the Ultraworld sessions. Being a fan of the Orb I was always interested in what the guys were doing in the studio and I also got to know Alison the manager of Berwick Street Studios where most of the album was recorded and mixed. I made my contribution as I had Ultraworld running on the Hi-Fi and realised I had never checked the band on Wikipedia. As the man behind the page I hope you don't mind my additions and I hope other readers find the insight into the recording process of interests. Also I wanted to update the note concerning Andy as I've always found it a shame that popular history has rather side-lined his contribution to the album and band membership regardless of how brief it was (circa 6 months). BTW, great job on the bands entry and all the best.

I really don't know.

I did a bit of studio work in London myself which is why I was sort of hanging on the fringe of some of the bigger studios and got to know these people. Apart from Andy Falconer I met Youth, Steve Hillage and Thrash on a couple of occassions as well as knowing some of the studio personal either directly or indirectly involved in the ORB project. Andy used the same bar in Soho as myself (The Blue Post in Berwick Street) so we had a lot of discussions regarding the sessions for the Ultra World Album. I could probably bore you for ages with Technical details or stories that I remember (such as psyclosonic 3D stereo devices or the day they had smoke machines and strobes in the studio while mixing). If there is any particular question that you think I could answer then try me.

Hello Wickethewok! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 2 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. AfD nomination of FireworX[edit]

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is FireworX. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/FireworX. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Orphaned non-free image File:Ableton Operator logo.svg[edit]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Ableton Operator logo.svg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 09:58, 9 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:AHEGPB_clip.ogg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:AHEGPB_clip.ogg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Melesse (talk) 03:32, 11 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Request?[edit]

Hey, Wicke. I was wondering about your samples and I love them and your modifications. I wanted to ask if you do give out copies to your fans of your edits if I could have the editted version of your Breezer sample on the DJ Sasha page please? This particular 30 second piece i've taken a serious liking to. Only asking and thank you for reading this.

  • I'm not sure I understand your request. I only edited the song down to 30 seconds from the original, I didn't do any remixing or anything. If you Google for Junkie XL - Breezer, I'm sure you can find somewhere to get it from. Wickethewok (talk) 01:05, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Each mix I listened over however, didn't contain this 30 second piece. I'm only asking for a sample because it's something I hadn't heard to be honest on Breezer. I'd be forever happy though, lol. I love the song to begin with, which is why I asked. I may see if it could be a ringtone, Lol. Only if you don't mind, Wicke. I will say, each mix that you have is awesome.

A tag has been placed on Liquid Asset (label) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for organizations and companies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Ambient Music / Dr Calculus Designer Beatnik album[edit]

If you listen to the above (eg on iTunes etc) you will hear where the KLF and the Orb got their ideas for ambient house / chill out from (the sounds of trains, planes, sampled speech, choirs etc plus photographs from this period show them wearing the same "floppy-eared hats" and dark glasses as Dr Calculus.) If you agree can you please put the information back in, thankyou. Extrafacts —Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.194.238.103 (talk) 08:24, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • What I think doesn't matter, as I can't find any sources saying that they served as inspiration for these genres. Searching for "dr calculus" ambient on Google doesn't bring me anything about their inspiration. Not that it matters, but from what I listened to on Amazon.com, any influence didn't seem overly obvious (not moreso than other artist in the 80s using environmental sounds and such). Wickethewok (talk) 03:27, 11 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The reason nothing showed up about their inspiration when you googled "dr calculus" ambient is because it's detailed information that hasn't been put on yet - you can't cross reference new info that's come to light! I was in London in the second half of the eighties when "Dr" Alex Paterson (as he called himself) of the Orb played chunks of Dr Calculus at fashion shows as an early DJ. He and the KLF wore exactly the same ear-flapped hats and glasses as Dr Calculus. The KLF (Kopyright Liberation Front) and Orb were not going to let on where they liberated their ideas from. If you listen to full length downloads of the Dr Calculus tracks Moments Of Being (Reprisal/Interlude) and Candy Floss Pink you can hear a girl being interviewed just like the Orb's Little Fluffy Clouds and the sounds of trains/planes just like the KLF (Perfume From Spain for the underwater ambient dub reggae, Designer Beatnik for complete ecstasy trippy track.) The original Designer Beatnik vinyl album sides ran non-stop / the Orb did the longest non-stop single: the length of an album side. Full name on the back cover of the 1986 Designer Beatnik vinyl album - Dr Calculus MDMA, the front cover showing Rolls Royce's "Spirit Of Ecstasy" mascot. Not a main inspiration for the ecstasy fuelled ambient house of the Orb/KLF? That's just not the way it was, and their inspiration does matter when there was this much of it. To leave out an entry on this album is changing what really happened. If you're the significant contributor to Wikipedia on the Orb you should get in touch with Alex Paterson and ask him about it! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Extrafacts (talkcontribs) 10:28, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Wikipedia is not the place for new information. How would we know if it was true or not if someone credible hasn't verified it? Wickethewok (talk) 01:05, 16 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That's why you should contact Alex Paterson and just ask - he won't mind, he'll probably think it's all a laugh after all these years. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Extrafacts (talkcontribs) 08:39, 16 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Orb page[edit]

Hi Wickethewok,

Firstly thank you for writing the Orb's wikepedia page, I work for the Orb, and have been trying to update there profile picture and the intro text, but you keep deleting it.

I am new to Wikipedia, so havnt been able to display the picture correctly, but would like to update the picture currently displayed. There are better pictures of Alex and the Orb then the current one. I also want to re-write the opening so it is more up to date and succinct.

Many thanks for your help on this.

  • The photo you were using looked like a promotional image (whose copyright would most likely be owned by the artist or label), which you claimed to be a free image. Was this image your own photograph which you own the copyright to? We get a lot of people uploading images for musicians that they do not own the rights to, but nonetheless claim that the work is free-use anyway. A tag has been placed on Matthew Dekay requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. New Page Patrol survey[edit]

New page patrol – Survey Invitation

Hello Wickethewok! The WMF is currently developing new tools to make new page patrolling much easier. Whether you have patrolled many pages or only a few, we now need to know about your experience. The survey takes only 6 minutes, and the information you provide will not be shared with third parties other than to assist us in analyzing the results of the survey; the WMF will not use the information to identify you.

  • If this invitation also appears on other accounts you may have, please complete the survey once only.
  • If this has been sent to you in error and you have never patrolled new pages, please ignore it.

Please click HERE to take part.
Many thanks in advance for providing this essential feedback.

You are receiving this invitation because you have patrolled new pages. For more information, please see NPP Survey. Global message delivery 13:52, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Greathall Productions requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. MSU Interview[edit]

Dear Wickethewok,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your nameHERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar — Preceding unsigned comment added by 35.9.115.210 (talk) 21:50, 2 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:OrbColors.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:OrbColors.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 15:15, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Pvd-45rpm.jpg[edit]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Pvd-45rpm.jpg.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • I am a bot, and will therefore not be able to answer your questions. If you have questions, please post them here.
  • I will automatically remove the request for deletion if the file is used in an article once again.
  • If you receive this notice after the image is deleted, and you want to restore the image, click here to file an un-delete request.

Orphaned non-free media (File:OrbSALT.ogg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:OrbSALT.ogg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Andy Moor (DJ), requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which articles can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may be soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:

  • It seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. (See section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.
  • It appears to be a clear copyright infringement. (See section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. However, even if you use one of these processes to release copyrighted material to Wikipedia, it still needs to comply with the other policies and guidelines to be eligible for inclusion. If you would like any assistance with this, you can ask a question at the help desk.

—Kerfuffler 13:21, 10 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Just a quick word on Sasha's very very early career. Prior to him working at Shelly's and before he got his first Wednesday night gig at THe Hac , he DJ'ed out of a very dark and dangerous nightclub in Ashton-Under-lyne called "Buggsy's" on a Friday night. He was the resident for about a year from 88-89 and it was there that he honed his skills prior to him hitting Shelly's in Stoke. I know...I went there...and he also DJ'ed at The Thunderdome in Miles Platting , Mcr , alongside Jay Wearden who was the resident at manchesters most ominous venue of them all. Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity[edit]

Information icon Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in over one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e. as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised, that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions, and that you have not been inactive for a three year period of time). If you remain inactive for a three year period of time, including the present year you have been inactive, you will need to request reinstatement at WP:RFA. This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. Extended confirmed protection[edit]

Hello, Wickethewok. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins[edit]

Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. New deal for page patrollers[edit]

Hi Wickethewok,

In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.

Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.

Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:29, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A new user right for New Page Patrollers[edit]

Hi Wickethewok.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:48, 15 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Anthony Pappa requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
