medcabal

Hi there -- I saw that you were listed as a medcabal member; as a fellow medcabalist, I thought I'd drop you a line to say that there are a number of new cases that have been added recently and there seem to be too many for the "regulars" to handle. I suggest giving it a shot! (If you forgot you signed up for the cabal, and want off, sorry to bother you!) Yours, Sdedeo (tips) 19:25, 25 January 2006 (UTC)

My talk page

Do not take it upon yourself to re-add other people's comments to my talk page. Reposting the comments of someone who makes personal attacks against me on his/her user page and accuses me of being a "Satanist Apologist" on the talk page of the article he/she got all bent out of shape on really is not a good idea. DreamGuy 01:00, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

  • I only reposted the one relevant comment, which did not come across to me as vandalism. If I was mistaken, then I appologize, however, the comment seemed relevant to me. I assumed that you had reverted to an earlier version to remove vandal comments, and that one got caught in the middle. However, i'd appreciate it if you did not order me around. You have absolutely no authority over me, and need I remind you that you do not own your user page (under the terms of the GFDL). Personally, I think you need a refresher in[[{WP:FAITH|Assuming Good Faith]]. Firestorm 01:08, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
  • Apology accepted. But, by the way, I *DO* own my own talk page, per the policies here on Wikipedia. I can and will remove anything I find inappropriate. I can and am ordering you to not restore things I deleted or to modify anyone else's comments. Any GFDL issues are handled by the history page. DreamGuy 01:19, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

ContiE has impersonated me on other wikis

Hi, I'm in a potentially awkward position with an Administrator. I have read the Wiki pages on dispute resolution but I'm still not sure how to proceed.

The Admin ContiE has a personal grudge against me for reasons I do not fully understand. He has been this way since I began frequenting wikipedia.

I have done work improving the furvert article. He has basically gone on a crusade against any edit I make. He controls every furry category article and several others ruthlessly. He is an iron fist and bans anyone he edit wars with. I had uploaded pictures and he deleted them with no talking. He seems to believe I am every person he has had an edit war against. He is always using personal attacks, calling me troll without reason. I uploaded them again and he voted them for deleted, but to his surprise the person who runs the images, thank you Nv8200p, found they were acceptable once I tagged them properly. Just recently he removed both the images without himself discussing it in the talk page (unless he was the same person who discussed only one) with the edit here [1] Then ContiE assumed bad faith, added his constant insult of troll in the talk page. It appears on a completed different wiki, a comedy one in all things, somebody else stole my username and I believe this was Conti himself and uploaded them. ContiE showed it as his reason. While vandalism like his, I would revert and mention it, he would ban me permanently if I undid his edit. That is why I am asking admins for help. He holds a couple of accounts on wikipedia and I think they are administrators so I have to be careful who I tell about this. Arights 07:23, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

Project updates
Greetings, Star Wars editors! Deckiller here. It's the first edition of the WikiProject Star Wars newsletter, and yes, it's a semi-ripoff of the Esperenza newsletter. I think it's important to begin with some good news: Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, and Jabba the Hutt have reached featured article status! Kudos to the editors who helped obtain these achievements!

WikiProject Star Wars is also on a mission to improve Star Wars articles using the following ideas:

  • An out of universe perspective versus an in universe perspective (see Wikipedia:Writing about fiction and the future ammendments to our manual of style)
  • Evolving lists into regular articles
  • Moving excess information and specifics to Wookieepedia (and providing links to Wookieepedia per the "see also" and/or "external links" sections)
  • Enhanced communication amongst WikiProject members
  • More to come

These should provide the basic steps needed to improve and "encyclopedia-fy" the Star Wars series of articles.

Things to do
There are plenty of Wikipedia:WikiProject Star Wars/things to do. An update to the page is coming very soon, and it will represent the new and exciting changes that Star Wars pages will be receiving!
Out-of-universe versus in-universe perspectives
Although details are forthcoming, I would like to take this time to explain the gist of this concept. Wikipedia has generally agreed that fictional articles should write about the topic from a "real world" perspective, focusing on real world issues and topics, with a section or two for plot synopsis and so on. Jabba the Hutt is a solid character example, and Clone Wars (Star Wars) is quickly moving toward an out of universe perspective.
Article evolution

As many of you know, lists of minor Star Wars-related themes are very common on Wikipedia; however, since these may be seen as violations of Wikipedia policy (and having seperate articles would breach even more policies), the tentative solution is to create general articles on a list's topic (for example, turning List of Star Wars devices into Technology of Star Wars, which allows us to cover everything from hyperspace to comlinks in a general encyclopedic fashion). This can be very tough for some broad topics, so the key is organization. I encourage all editors to list their ideas on the WikiProject talk page. It will be a very difficult — but tangible — effort.

For an example, let me point you to the Final Fantasy WikiProject. Some of us over at that WikiProject decided to turn various components of Final Fantasy X, such as Pyreflies, Yevon, and the backstory — into an article describing the world of Spira. Location descriptions were given a List of locations in Spira article, and the details themselves were placed on the Spira (Final Fantasy X) page. This is a decent template to follow — however, we will need to place priority on out-of-universe, "real life" topics and perspectives in realtion to the article.

Sounds confusing, eh? It won't, for examples will be popping up left and right in the near future!

Signed...

i appreciate your position in returning a great deal of deleted material in this article. however, most of what you returned has been challenged with {{fact}} tags. anything which has been legitimately so challenged, and which has not subsequently been cited, is subject to immediate, unilateral deletion. if you want it to stay, please cite sources for the statements there within wikipedia's Verifiability Criteria. thank you. Speedy deletion

Hello Firestorm

I just saw you tagged National Identity and Language for speedy deletion, while this article may be unencyclopedic being unencyclopedic is not a criteria for speedy deletion. Next time I advise you to use {{subst:prod|reason}} or go through the WP:AFD process when deleting those kind of article.

I'm taking care of that particular article right now and made a clear explanation on the talk page of both the article and the author talk page to explain what are your concern. And tagged for proposed deletion this article. if the author can't completly rewrite this article in a matter of 5 days. - Esurnir 05:39, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Grand Admiral Martio Batch, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Grand Admiral Martio Batch is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Grand Admiral Martio Batch, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. The Sith article

This article is rife with uncited information, in-universe cruft. I posted a request that cignificant citation work should occur or information would be removed. None has occurred, and I am about to start removing those parts which aren't cited from the article and most of it will end up on the discussion page until it can be cited. I invite you to assist in this process, as it appears you have an interest in the subject matter.- Arcayne (cast a spell) 19:58, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

Rhino novel AfD

Thank you so much - that was rather embarassing. Is it permissable to remove the back and forth about the tech problem so as to not confuse the AfD? I wouldn't want to be accused of removing comments from an AfD - somebody could use rollback on me. ;) Pairadox (talk) 09:18, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Not a problem at all, it seems as if at some point you called the article {{subst:*pagename*}} instead of *pagename*. I don't think anybody would have a problem removing it, but you never know, so it might be best to make a note that you had a technical problem and those comments are related to that. Personally, I don't have a problem with it, but you never know how others would react. Firestorm (talk) 09:22, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
Kewl. BTW, is your name related to a certain flame-haired hero? Pairadox (talk) 09:24, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
No, its not, its actually an extremely obscure Star Wars reference. If you have any questions about how things work around AFD or the wiki in general, please feel free to ask. Firestorm (talk) 09:42, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
(Running for Star Wars encyclopedia) Thanks. I've actually done my fair share of AfD noms; that's what made this so horrifying. I know how to do them. Ah well, probably a sign I should get some sleep. Pairadox (talk) 09:49, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Sourcing problem

I've created a list of Star Wars articles that have no sources or merely low sourcing, and since you seem to be involved in improving WP:SW's activity, I thought you might like to be involved. The list isn't of what to merge, what to delete, or would I say that all of the articles have bad sourcing. If you need clarification on why a certain article is listed or where sourcing is needed, feel free to ask. Feel free to also add to the list, but discuss removal first. - A Link to the Past (talk) 18:01, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

Interference with request for deletion

Why would you remove my request for deletion of the Vinnie Roslin page and suggest that the subject be made to jump through hoops.

I created this page and because of constant and vicious vandalism he would like it removed, I agree!

If you know him please contribute to his stub, if not please do not interfere with my attempt to repair this destructive conduct.

-Thank You,

Michael Parker

MrMac (talk) 17:24, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

I removed your Proposed Deletion because that is not the correct way for someone to have an article about themselves deleted. First of all, the article in question is not subject to "constant and vicious vandalism", considering that there have been less than 50 edits total in over a year. Of that, maybe 15 of them seem to be an edit war. That is not valid reason for deletion. If the subject of this article wants to have it deleted, then he needs to contact the Wikimedia Foundation. That is the proper procedure we have for these situations. Also, once a proposed deletion has been contested, you may not re-propose it. The next step after proposed deletion is taking it to Articles For Deletion. Happy editing! Firestorm (talk) 19:01, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

Lets discuss this one issue at a time:

I (the author) submitted the request for deletion, not the subject. So your argument about "correct way for someone....." is moot and not a reason for rejection.MrMac (talk)

I requested deletion because there are no reliable sources that say that this village exists. If you can provide evidence that it exists, then it will meet our inclusion criteria for villages. If not, then it has to be deleted. If the village really has over 2000 people, then somebody must have written something about it at some point.Firestorm Talk 19:48, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

Royalbroil 12:45, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

I left this note on the creator's talk page: "I decided not to delete the page "speedily", but it's still possible this article will be nominated for a 5-day deletion discussion, unless the article adopts a more neutral tone, and multiple reliable sources are found that back up the claims of notability." This was a judgment call; I have speedied similar articles that were just slightly more resume-like. It was also a factor that we don't have a lot of noted architects trying to use Wikipedia as their marketing website. But I don't mind at all if you let the creator know what we're looking for, and if they can't provide it, head to AfD (or holler and I'll AfD it if you like). I did very speedily delete some of your other nominations, and gave you props on the creator pages, too. (Watchlisting) - Dan Dank55 (push to talk) 00:07, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for your notice. If I have free time, I may import the article into my sandbox and then see how much of it is salvageable, and then decide whether or not to nominate for AFD or improve it in keeping with our standards. Also, when you say "on the creator pages," what pages do you mean, precisely? Firestorm Talk 00:36, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
In this case, just User_talk:Prarch. Thanks. - Dan Dank55 (push to talk) 01:28, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

According to Wikipedia's inclusion guidelines, a company must have received significant coverage in reliable sources. This usually means newspapers, magazines, and books, as well as a few other types of sources. If you can find a few of these, I have no problem with keeping the article. In addition, it cannot look like an advertisement. It would have to be rewritten to include only what hte sources say. If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask. I'm sorry, I meant to revert it to red. The script I was using accidentally undid your edit instead of the vandal's. Please accept my sincerest apologies for this. Firestorm Talk 18:49, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

No problem, I do my best to watch out for things like that. Firestorm Talk 06:18, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

You're invited!

In the afternoon, we will hold a session dedicated to meta:Wikimedia New York City activities, sign official incorporation papers for the chapter, review recent projects like Wikipedia Loves Art and upcoming projects like Wikipedia at the Library, and hold salon-style group discussions on Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects (see the January meeting's minutes).

In the evening, we'll share dinner and chat at a local restaurant, and generally enjoy ourselves and kick back.

You can add or remove your name from the New York City Meetups invite list at Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Invite list.

To keep up-to-date on local events, you can also join our mailing list.
