WikiLubber

I have a question that I hoped you could answer. If a user, WikiLubber, has been accused of sockpuppetry in the past, why in the world was he granted reviewer status? That doesn't seem very logical to me. Nicholasm79 (talk) 02:58, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi Nicholas, and hi again WikiLubber. For the best answer to your question, Nicholas, I recommend that you ask the administrator that administered the right; the right is given based on the judgment of a sole administrator, so there's sure to be disagreement every so often. My answer? I really can't give you a good one, since I'm not the one that gave him the right, nor can I give it even if I wanted to; I can, however, give my input on why I believe that the reviewer right may have been given to WikiLubber. Reviewer rights are granted based most heavily on a user's experience with editing articles and the related policy that is used in maintaining articles. WikiLubber is quite experienced in article editing, and has demonstrated knowledge of related policy (e.g. verifying through sources, removal of excessive and unnecessary content, detecting and reverting vandalism, etc.). That is basically all one needs to know to get reviewer rights, per the criteria for becoming a reviewer. The point of reviewer rights is to enable a user to approve an edit if it follows policy; WikiLubber, I believe, can detect that. It is true that he has been blocked in the past for both edit warring and sockpuppetry, but the policy regarding edit warring and sockpuppetry is more indirectly related to article content; in other words, one could write an excellent article and can know what should and should not go into an article without ever knowing the rules regarding edit warring and sockpuppetry. That is the train of though that I believe the admin may have had when WikiLubber was granted those rights; in addition, I think WikiLubber may have learned his lesson from those previous blocks. In another addition, reviewer rights aren't a huge deal; last I checked, close to 5,000 editors have it. That's just my input as to why he may have been granted them, though - again, be sure to ask the admin who gave the right if you disagree with their judgment, and they may be able to give an answer that actually reflects their train of thought, instead of me providing my own. Spam blacklist

Even if nobody else had taken care of it, I wouldn't have done it — the blacklist is helpful, but I don't understand the way it works, so I'd be afraid of breaking something. Nyttend (talk) 03:15, 14 July 2010 (UTC)

GOCE Newsletter

GOCE July 2010 backlog elimination drive chart Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive! We have now passed the halfway point, so here's an update. Progress Report - Progress toward the targets has been good. 751 articles out of the approximately 1,600 we would like to get completed by the end of the month were done by July 15, so we will be very close to meeting the target for volume. However, we would like to clear all of the 2008 articles from the backlog, and there are still 892 left to do. Please consider choosing one of these older articles when looking for something to copy edit. If we focus our firepower we can completely wipe out 2008 from the queue. Participation Report - 95 people signed up for the July drive. This is a great result compared to May, when we had 36. However, in May only one person that signed up didn't do any copy edits, and in July only 59 of the 95 have posted any copy edits on the big board. The task may seem insurmountable but please remember that if all 95 participants copy edit just one article a day from now until the end of the month, we will eliminate 1,300 more articles from the backlog. So please consider participating at whatever level you can! All contributions are appreciated. This newsletter was prepared for the GOCE by Diannaa (Talk), S Masters (talk), and The Raptor Let's talk.

Please explain how my addition was copyright

Please recheck my contribution that you deleted. This is Brandon Flowers own words. No specific site owns rights to it. I found this biography on multiple sites. What I added is beneficial to Wikipedia and people trying to learn about this person. Please show me where this was copyrighted. By deleting the first thing someone adds to wiki without full detailed explanation does not engender the Wikipedia spirit and can keep people from adding helpful things in the future. thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Absolutenurse (talk • contribs) 06:38, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

I re-looked at your edit, but I came to the same conclusion that it's a copyright violation. On Wikipedia, article content is released under the CC-BY-SA 3.0 license, and unless you have proof that the work you copied into the article is released under this license (or into the public domain), it's a copyright violation. It doesn't matter that multiple sites have the biography - someone owns the copyright for it, and unless you have permission to release the work or proof that the work is released under a license compatible with Wikipedia, it doesn't belong here. Please read Wikipedia:Copyright violations, which covers this in more depth. In addition, let's take a look again at your edit again. You state that the content is written by Brandon Flowers, but that doesn't seem to be the case - there are several quotes in there from him, but it seems to be a biography entry that is ultimately written by somebody else (unless Brandon Flowers enjoys referring to himself in third person POV). Also, even if Brandon Flowers did write it, it doesn't make a difference - then he owns the copyrights to the work, rather than somebody else. Toontown Online edit reverted

I have reverted your edit to Toontown Online. The IP user was simply removing an error in the article where the entire contents were duplicated twice, as see here, and ClueBot reverted it in error. I would suggest dropping a line at User talk:188.161.198.185 since the user was accused of vandalism in error, that way they don't feel upset towards Wikipedians. Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, at least one of your recent edits, such as the one you made to User talk:TK-CP, did not appear to be constructive and has been reverted or removed. Please use the sandbox for any test edits you would like to make, and read the welcome page to learn more about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. Thank you. You are an administrator, as is "Nuttish" at a site generally thought to be dedicated to the destruction of CP. Your continued posting on topics unrelated to Wikipedia is indeed considered by me to be vandalism...and since my personal talk page is just that, mine, my opinion is all that counts, sir.

If you don't want your edits to my personal talk page branded as vandalism, the solution is quite simple; don't post to my Wikipedia page about other sites, and especially do not post there to promote your vandal site. Please do go ahead and explain how this message, or any other message that I have ever left for you on your talk page on Wikipedia for that matter, is a message that is unrelated to Wikipedia and is essentially me promoting another wiki. I have never, ever posted anything on your talk page that has nothing to do with Wikipedia and is promotional of another website, and I do not appreciate you telling me not to perform such actions when I have never done so. Find one example of me doing so, and I will take this all back.

In addition, while leniency is given to users to control their own talk page, there is a limit to how far that goes, and labeling valid warnings and comments regarding various policies on Wikipedia as threats and vandalism passes that limit. Your opinion is not all that counts, TK, even if it is "your own talk page". The talk page is a place for users to be able to easily approach others regarding issues related to Wikipedia, and when one cannot do so without having their message deleted and being labelled as vandalism or a threat, that is considered disruptive. And it's not just me saying this. Please take a look at WP:UP#OWN. As stated there, "Traditionally Wikipedia offers wide latitude to users to manage their user space as they see fit. However, pages in user space belong to the wider community. They are not a personal homepage, and do not belong to the user. Once again, please do provide even one example of me posting a message to your talk page that is unrelated to Wikipedia. You continue to say that I should stop leaving messages on your talk page that are unrelated to Wikipedia, when you fail to provide even one example of me doing so. All that I was doing was informing you of Wikipedia policy when you labeled a non-vandalism edit as vandalism. I never "carried over" any arguments from anywhere else - I was simply warning you of a Wikipedia policy that you violated (which, by the way, you are breaking two more with your message above). Now you say that I'm harassing you, on top of that (I also ask of you to provide evidence of me doing that on your talk page, since you bring it up). This isn't "gang-rape", regardless if both Nuttish and I are both active contributors to RationalWiki - this is Wikipedia, and I was informing you of Wikipedia policies that you should be aware of. GOCE Backlog Elimination Drive Wrap-up

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. Thanks to all who participated in the drive! Over 100 editors—including Jimbo Wales—signed up this time (nearly triple the participants of the May drive). This benefited the Guild as well as the articles in need of copy editing. You can see from the comparison graphs that we increased the number of completed copyedits substantially. Unfortunately, we were not able to meet our goal of completely wiping out 2008 from the queue. We also were not able to reduce the backlog to less than 6,000 articles. We suspect people were busy with real life summertime things, at least in the northern hemisphere! We were able to remove the months of January, February, March, April, and May from the backlog, and we almost wiped out the month of June. We reduced the backlog by 1,289 articles (17%), so all in all it was a very successful drive, and we will be holding another event soon. We'll come up with some new ideas to try to keep things fresh and interesting. Keep up the good work, everybody! Stats If you copy edited at least 4,000 words, you qualify for a barnstar. If you edited in the May 2010 GOCE Backlog Elimination Drive, your word totals are cumulative for barnstars (not the leaderboard). Over the course of the next week or two, we will be handing out the barnstars. Blanked page

Hi, SuperHamster. Sorry to have disturbed. Silvia3 is my previous username. However, I just decided to start a new username, and I moved the content of that page to the new username. Ah, I see what happened. While I was patrolling the recent changes, I saw that somebody had blanked a user subpage of another user, so I naturally reverted it. You didn't do anything wrong, it was just a misunderstanding on my part. You can go ahead and blank User:Silvia3/Useful tools once again, perhaps leaving an edit summary that states that Dawn08 is your new account, to avoid any further confusion.

Another option, as you state, is to request for it to be deleted. It's not necessary, but if you want to, you can tag the page for speedy deletion under speedy deletion criteria U1. You will have to leave a note, however, that states that you are the same user as Silvia3, so the admin who is reviewing your request knows that you are the same user. For example (you can use it if you want), you can just copy the following below onto your userpage, which will produce both the tag for speedy deletion, and a note that states that you and Silvia3 are the same user:

I'm not sure what you motives are (so perhaps what I'm about to say isn't an option that fits your needs), but in the future, if you ever want to change you username again, you can request to change your username rather than create a new account. In the process of renaming, it conveniently moves all your contributions and userpages from your old username to the new username.

Hi Dwayne. Thanks again for the kind offer. It's a tempting one, but I think that I'm going to hold out a bit longer on it. There are some defined things that I want to get done before running for adminship, for example, cleaning up and updating the first article I've ever created, among other things (such as doing a userspace revamp that'll focus more on my contributions to Wikipedia). I also feel that I could use some more experience in general. On top of that, I've been kinda burned out recently compared to other times, so I don't think right now, at this instance, would be an ideal time for me run for adminship. Project news After several months of collaboration on Macintosh, the article was delisted from featured article status. Last month, WikiProject Apple Inc. quietly launched several new departments (collaboration, outreach and strategy). A new program by the outreach department is preparing to launch a recruiting effort (ORDER). Please take a moment to welcome our new members: Eraserhead1, Leet Sher, and Allmightyduck. Definitely not, as we could always use more participants (so I hope you join!). Sign-ups never really end - I don't see why someone should not be allowed to sign-up even the day before the challenge ends (which is a good 6 months or so away from now). Participation is pretty slow right now, since the event is nearly a year long, but I'm planning on doing a "bacon rush" in January to bring in more participation by sending out notices to participants, and possibly even offering barnstars for effort. Thanks for signing up. I've added your name to the submissions list, in addition to the score table. Since you bring the subject of valued pictures up, I've re-visited the scoring system for images and have revamped it to include valued pictures, and to also include the nomination of bacon-related images. Here's how the scoring for images is now:

• Uploading a self-made bacon-related image scores 3 points
• Uploading an appropriately-licensed bacon-related image authored by someone else scores 2 points
  • Any bacon-related image that achieves featured picture, quality image, and/or valued picture status (on either the Commons or on Wikipedia) scores the creator/uploader 6 points and the nominator 3 points

As a result, if the image you recently nominated to achieve valued picture status passes, you'll receive three points.

Thanks for the reminder - I was made aware of that a long time ago, but thought that it may be best to just leave them on the scoreboard, since I don't see a compelling reason to go either way in keeping or disqualifying them. Since you bring it up, though, what I think I'll do is leave the user on the scoreboard, but remove them from the ranking system (so they will not hold first place anymore). Yea, there are quite a lot - perhaps more than the average person would expect. And sorry, your nomination has to be successful for you to get points - otherwise, everyone could nominate every bacon image in existence, and, well, that's not good. It's not funny, nor is it allowed in the least bit; it does not matter if it is your page or not; it is the comment of another user, and changing its meaning is not only rude, but it can cause conflicts and sets forwards a false interpretation of what the user actually meant. Repeatedly doing so will be considered disruptive, so please - don't do it again. WP:IGNORE is there to provide users with an insight that basically states that if something will clearly and undoubtedly make Wikipedia better, you can go ahead and do it. Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive! GOCE September 2010 backlog elimination drive progress graphs Participation report — We have 71 participants in the September drive. 95 people signed up for the July drive, and in May we had 36. Progress report — We have been making solid progress in eliminating the 2008 articles from the backlog so far. If we continue to focus our firepower we can completely wipe out 2008 from the queue. Overall volumes are lower than expected though, with nearly a thousand articles yet to be done if we are to meet our overall target. If you have not yet participated in the drive, we recommend you do so. If each person who signed up edits one article per day from now till the end of the month we can eliminate another 1,065 articles from the backlog. All contributions are appreciated. Announcement: credit for 10k+ articles — Participants editing a 10k word article may claim credit for two 5k+ articles on the leaderboard. Those that edit a 15k word article may claim credit for three. Regardless, the article is still counted as a single article in the tallies. Reminder — Articles from the Requests page can be included in your tally, even if they do not have a copy edit tag. This is a great place to go if you are interested in finding a higher quality article to work on. September 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive Conclusion

GOCE September 2010 backlog elimination drive progress graphs Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors September 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. Thanks to all who participated! Several of our top editors were called away to real life concerns during the month (be careful out there, people!). This meant that once again, we did not meet all our lofty targets, but we did come close. Stats Out of 76 registered editors, 45 actively participated. We nearly wiped out the 2008 articles from the backlog—there were only 13 remaining when the drive closed. We reduced the backlog by 725 articles (11.5%), so it was another successful drive. A total of 59 barnstars will be awarded to 40 editors—well done, and congratulations to all. Barnstars If you copy edited at least 4,000 words, you qualify for a barnstar. If you edited in the July 2010 GOCE Backlog Elimination Drive, you may have earned rollover words, which counted towards this month's barnstars (except for the leaderboard awards). If you wish to positively contribute in an encyclopedic fashion, then do go ahead and do so; you are not blocked from editing at the moment. The message I left on your talk page is simply warning you that if you continue with your current behavior, it could very well result in a block. If you wish to continue editing, doing so would require taking heed to the messages left on your talk page, advising you of several policies that you should pay attention to and why your articles are being deleted. Hello. First things first, I am not the one who hid the edit from view; I have no such privilege to do so. However, I did report your edit to be deleted to the users who do have the ability. I do not recall exactly what your edit consisted of, but I do remember the reasoning as to why it was deleted. As Silver predicted, It was because your edit revealed possible personal information of another user. You can't tell what your edit was because you, or anybody else for that matter, are not supposed to; it's hidden for a reason, and that reason is to prevent people from seeing a user's undisclosed personal information. In regards for changing the Nintendo 3DS image

...Why? I can understand in the reason for saying that it disregards the rules for adding copyright contact, onto a non-free website, but wasn't it clear that the other picture already shown also featured copyright contact; and same with all the other 10 billion pictures laying around Wikipedia?

In order for that image to be posted on its main Wikipedia page, was for...
1. An update of what was already "shown"
2. To feature an image with better quality

Hi - I'm not sure what you mean when you say "copyright contact". I will try to clear up any confusion, though.

Here's the short answer: The updated image is owned and copyrighted by Nintendo, so we can't use it. The image I added to the article is freely licensed by the author, so we can use it.

Here's the long, detailed answer: By default, when somebody creates a work, that work is fully copyrighted by the author. In other words, the author owns it, and controls what people can and can't do with it. People cannot use fully copyrighted content willy-nilly without the author's permission. However, the author can always release their work under a less-restrictive license that removes some of the control that they have over their work. These less-restrictive licenses are known as "free licenses", and content that has been released under free licenses are known as "free content". On Wikipedia, our goal is to provide a specific type of free content, which is content that has been released under a free license by the author that enables anyone to use the content for almost any reason without having to ask for permission, as long as they attribute the author of the content and release any alteration of the content under the same license. That is why Wikipedia's articles and text are released under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported license, which enables anyone to do just that. In addition to the text, we also want to provide free images that allow people to use them in the same manner as our text. This means that, whenever it is possible, we should use images that are released under free licenses that enable people to use them as described above.

The picture of the updated 3DS that you describe is, alas, copyrighted and owned by Nintendo. It is not freely licensed to fit Wikipedia's needs. The image that I added to the article, however, has been released under a free license that fits Wikipedia's needs by its author, and as a result, we can and do use it. Yes, it may be a bad image, but that's basically the way it has to be until somebody creates a better one. Now, there are cases where finding or creating a free image is not possible. An example is a picture of Mario. Mario is a character copyrighted by Nintendo, so any image of Mario is automatically copyrighted by Nintendo. As a result, due to the fact that a free image of Mario will likely never be available, we use a fully copyrighted picture of Mario on his article under a claim of fair use. You can read more about that here. A picture of a 3DS, however, could always be freely licensed. All we need is somebody to get their hands on a 3DS and take a picture of it, and then release that picture under a free license.

I guess thats a pretty fair statment! All we have to do now is wait until the device has actually been released, for someone to post their photo of it! But still, I really doubt Nintendo will be up the balls in trying to get that picture removed from wikipedia!

Yea, it may be true that the chance that Nintendo (or any other company for that matter) would come after Wikipedia is not the biggest. That especially holds true since Wikipedia has fair use on its side, rendering any legal action rather pointless (but then again, you do get events like this). However, a just-as-big chunk of the reason why we don't allow for such images is because of Wikipedia's desire for free content, to supply readers with images and content that they can re-use to their hearts desire. It would never have occurred to me that Conservapedia should be in Category:Comedy websites or Category:Entertainment websites because it is so horrifyingly unfunny. But (!), the official party line over there seems to be to embrace things like "comedy and satires concerning atheism and evolution" and there is a growing number of pages calling prominent atheists names like "obese" when they're probably not and captioning pictures of pigs with their names and things like "sooie!" Valid point, but in my view, Conservapedia is still far from belonging in Category:Comedy websites or Category:Entertainment websites - sure, Conservapedia may have some content that is meant to entertain, but that's not its primary purpose, as opposed to the articles that are already found in the aforementioned categories. Per your own criteria, our article on Wikipedia should also be in the aforementioned categories - we've got a whole category on Wikipedia humor, which includes essays, project pages, and more that provide humorous and sarcastic content. General Bacon

Hey Hamster, help me out here. I just wrote an article for the Bacon Cup, John M. Bacon but for the life of me, I can't figure out where to list it. I also want to nominate it for DYK--"...that General John M. Bacon and his men were reportedly massacred during the Battle of Sugar Point (1898)?" (or something like that)--but I don't know if I should list it already, or if we're waiting and putting them on hold, or what. Your help is appreciated! (And I know I can never, ever catch up with Cirt and Glane and all them, but at least a new article gets me listed, and I may not lose my membership!). Hi Drmies, it's great to have you back in the Challenge. When you talk about listing the article, do you mean submitting the article for the Bacon WikiCup? If that's the case, you did all right submitting it at User:SuperHamster/Bacon WikiCup 2011/Submissions. I'll try to review and score it in a timely manner. As for the DYK, it is up to you whether or not you want to wait until March 1st for the debut. Right now, only one bacon-related DYK is set for March 1st; all the other bacon DYKs have already been launched on the main page. Either way is perfectly fine. Sankeyclass

Even where it's obvious the user is a VOA, they are owed the courtesy of a warning, because sometimes they do stop (see the warnings in the green box at the top of the AIV page). The idea is to prevent damage to the encyclopedia first and foremost. If a vandal never edits again, it accomplishes that as easily as blocking them does, with the added bonus of letting them come back when they grow up without having to request unblock or open a new account. Thanks for the reply. To be honest, though, I still think immediate blockage without warning would be the best solution in this case. I don't see why obvious VOAs that are actively vandalizing should have the courtesy of a warning. They already know that they are doing something unacceptable, and we ideally want to permanently stop then in their tracks as soon as possible if our first and foremost goal is to prevent damage. Warnings don't always accomplish that, and leave Wikipedia vulnerable when they don't. Even when warnings seem to have worked we can't be sure, because vandals can and do come back at later times. Blocks, however, don't leave you guessing if the user is done or not (unless they start socking it up). Blocking ensures quick security for both the immediate and future timeframes (at least from a particular account), and allows the focus of vandal patrol to be placed on other users, instead of having to babysit to make sure a vandal is done. As for the added bonus, I don't see how a former vandal being forced to make an unblock request or create a new account to positively edit is a particularly bad thing. If a blocked vandal would like to come back at a later date to positively contribute, then great - he or she can make an unblock request for his or herself and take responsibility for his or her previous actions. While we want it to be easy for new contributors to jump right in, we don't want it to be easy for vandalizers to edit, either.

But regardless, I'll try to leave at least one warning from now on (it's not like it's a huge deal for me not to). Besides, you're the one doing the blocking anyway :) ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 06:53, 26 February 2011 (UTC)

Yea, I'm planning on the Bacon Challenge 2012 happening. It's nice to see that, after three years, editors are still participating in the Bacon Challenge. As long as editors remain interested and motivated, I see no reason to stop anytime soon.

Regarding the just-concluded Bacon Challenge, I will try to finish up the scoring and give everyone their awards this weekend. I haven't had much time to sit down and get to it this week, as it's been rather hectic with standardized testing going on. Once all of that's been taken care of, though, I plan to set up next year's Bacon Challenge during the last week of March, which is also my spring break - just in time for you to do your thing in the following month.

Bacon WikiCup 2012

Yep - I know I've said before that the Cup would have started several months ago, but as you can probably tell from my contributions list, I've taken a long break from heavy editing, and I've done this to focus more on school (ironically, I'm typing this at school when I should be studying). I plan on resuming normal editing when school is out, which is this Wednesday - I'll see about getting the Cup up and running a few days after. I've got most of the Cup made, it's just sitting in a document on my desktop.

On a sidenote, I'm thinking about hosting the Cup this year in the subspace of WP:BACON.

Haha, I'm actually not a huge fan of hamsters and probably don't like or know more about hamsters than any other guy, but I'm happy to take a look at the article. I quickly did some basic formatting, unified the language to British English (there was a mix of British and American English in the article), fixed a typo or two, adjusted some wording, and replaced all instances of Siberian hamster with Djungarian hamster. I also merged the two paragraphs in the lead into one paragraph, because I think it flows better, but feel free to adjust it as you see fit. I also slapped a citation tag on the list of possible colorations of the hamster - I think it could use some verification there.

Since I did it kind of quickly, I think the article can still be improved a bit more copy-editing wise, so I'll probably take a look at it again later, and hopefully someone else will too. Good luck with your nomination. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 01:47, 10 August 2011 (UTC)

I don't have any rules that need to be followed, I'm just another Wikipedia editor, like you. But you're doing fine with you're edits =) You're free to make as many edits as you want. While it's nice and encouraged to leave edit summaries, it's not incredibly important for minor changes, since they are generally not controversial or important. If you wish to start leaving edit summaries, you can always leave the edit summary for minor edits as something brief, such as "fixing spelling", "linking", "bolding", etc.

Anyway, I'll get to uploading asap. If you ever want to try and do so on your own, I can help you out if you wish, it's a nice thing to know, especially when you're working with video game articles. Sure, no problem. Because the article is on a video game series (not just a single video game), I replaced the video game infobox with the video game series infobox. System requirements are not listed in the infoboxes for articles about video game series, only for individual video games. XIII Century (series) is an article about the entire series, so no system requirements are listed, as the article covers multiple video games, not just a single one. If separate articles were to be made for XIII Century: Death or Glory and XIII Century: Blood of Europe, then we would list the system requirements for each of the games in their own articles. As you can see here and here, each individual game has its own separate system requirements.

For example, take a look at the Roller Coaster Tycoon series of video games. The article on the entire Roller Coaster Tycoon series, RollerCoaster Tycoon (series), covers the series as a whole, and does not provide system requirements. Each of the articles for the individual games in the series, however, lists the system requirements for each individual game (RollerCoaster Tycoon, RollerCoaster Tycoon 2, and RollerCoaster Tycoon 3). ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 18:23, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

Unfortunatelly, they won't unblock me until the end of next year (6 months till I file a compaint to the Russian Wikipedia arbitrage, after which is minimum of 4 months till they unblock me, and after that they might give me a month in testing (in which I am forbidden to edit articles, due to the edits that they were not happy about, for an unknown to me reason). Thanks again! Yea, I think 2012 will be a bad year for Russian Wikipedia. Whithout me they will fall bellow Polish. Although, they don't care about my work, which is sad, considering how much I care about my work there! I just was changing for example, 2010 in film on {{2010 in film}} in cinematography section, both of which work. But the second one takes less space in the Russian Wikipedia, so in my opinion the edit was justified. Unfortunatelly not in their opinion. They even accused me of destructive behavior, another reason for my blockade! I even came to suspect that maybe their user talkpages are wire tapped by KGB! =(

By the way, while looking through the companies infoboxes I found out that I can put a logo of a company in there, but I don't know how. Can you help:

 Done. Wikipedia policy on copyrighted images is a bit different than the policy on copyrighted text. While one should never copy copyrighted text from another person onto Wikipedia, there are exceptions for images. Things like company logos and game covers, while they are still copyrighted and owned by their respective owner, can be used on Wikipedia through fair use, since logos and game covers will never have a freely-licensed replacement. Essentially, Wikipedia will always use free text, and will always try its best to use free images, but when it comes to things like logos, covers, movie screenshots, and more, exceptions are made and copyrighted images are uploaded, as there is no other option for those types of things. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 02:16, 26 November 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, I was just worried, the reason is because I was blocked for deleting some comments from my talk page in Russian Wikipedia. Luckily, English Wikipedia is allowing it, but other countries are not. It have something to do with "respecting talk page guidelines", but some, and all countries take it to extreme. For example, I violated one day a copyright on Russian Wikipedia, (yes I did change couple of words around), but that didn't cut it. I did it excedently twice in a row. After that I recieved a warning, which I decided to delete as well. Unfortunately, I didn't knew that its against the Wikipedia guidelines of theirs to delete a warning or any comment unless its baseless, or not Wikipedia related, which occurs very rare. Ofcouse, people said that they need comments so that they can edit them. But, who needs from 17-30 comments on ones talk page, or even in an archive, for that matter? I suspect it have something to do with a Wikipedia founder who made such "scary rules", but I don't want to bad talk about him. After that I tried to delete some comments that were not warnings, and got banned for doing that too.--Mishae (talk) 05:03, 27 November 2011 (UTC)

Well, first things first, subpages are separated with slashes, not colons - so your userboxes would be located at User:Mishae/This user is a rabbit and User:Mishae/This user wants to adopt a rabbit.

Anyway, what you essentially want to do is create each page, and paste the following code into each one:

| id = [[Image:FILE.jpg|45px]]

| info = DESCRIPTION

| border-c = #COLOR

| id-c = #COLOR

| info-c = #COLOR

}}

Then simply replace "FILE.jpg" in the id field with the image one you want, and replace "DESCRIPTION" in the info field with the userbox text that you desire. Also fill in the colors you want in the border-c, id-c, and info-c fields. Here is a color chart you can use to find the colors you want and their code values.

Yep. Images on Wikipedia that are described as free are basically images that have been licensed so that they can be used for almost any purpose by anyone, including using them for personal profit. Free images on Wikipedia can still can have some restrictions though, such as requiring people to cite the author of the image when they use it on their own websites, books, etc. Because of these minor restrictions and requirements, such images are described as being "partly owned". The image you just linked to falls under that category. Anyone can use the image, alter it, and share it, but only as long as they attribute the author and share the work under an identical license. Free images on Wikipedia also refer to images that have been completely released for everyone to use, without any restrictions or requirements - these files are known as being in the public domain.

Now, any images hosted on Wikipedia that do not meet the requirements for being considered "free" are labelled as fair use images, and can only be used when absolutely needed (such as portraying a copyrighted video game character). These images are generally fully owned by the creator, who has not given up any rights or control on the image. Fair use can also apply to images that are still partly owned, but do not meet all the requirements for being considered free on Wikipedia, such as the right to use them for profit. Free images on Wikipedia need to be able to be used for monetary gain.

Fair use images will be clearly marked as fair use in their descriptions, so they are easy to spot. For example, take a look at one of the images I uploaded per your request, File:Digitalmindsoft logo.jpg. That is claimed under fair use, as Digitalmindsoft still fully owns the image.

Don't worry about messing up with images, if you pay attention and take a look at the Wikipedia pages on using images, you'll be perfectly fine. Even if you screw up, mistakes happen - it'll just be corrected and the lesson will be learned. No one starts out completely knowing how to use images on Wikipedia, one only learns through practice and time. I don't know what happened with you on the Russian Wikipedia, but I can't see that happening here, you're a careful editor. It'd make life easier in the long run for the both of us if you try it out for yourself.

Here are some pages you may try reading:

• Wikipedia:Image use policy, for how to correctly use images, including copyrighted and free ones.
• Wikipedia:Picture tutorial, for how to add images to articles using wikitext.
• Wikipedia:Image dos and don'ts, for a basic list of things to do and not do.

 Done. What happened to me on the Russian Wikipedia is a beyond belief miss understanding. You see, at the beginning I wrote 4 articles all which were in violation of copyright. So, back then I didn't knew what I was doing was wrong, so I learned how not to it. Unfortunately, a year later I was caught doing same thing, I did however told them that I need help with it. Instead, they warned me by saying that "if I will see do it one more time you will be blocked." The next thing I did, was in their opinion to be unexceptible. I deleted the warning, considering that I read it. It turned that I am NOT ALLOWED to delete any comments from my user talk page, So I got a warning for it as well. Imedeately I asked them for the rules on Russian Wikipedia User Talk Pages, which they gave me. However, noi where it was mentioned that deleting any messages will result in a block, and for an unspecific amount of time, (which I learned after they blocked me). Further more, before being blocked, I recieved a visit from a Wikipedia patrol man, which provocated me into doing next: Angered by it, I sent an administrator a letter saying that (finding out that patrol man is Jewish, by learning that he is a participant in "Project Israel") "that I wish you and this K*** to die" and that "I will celebrate it". After sending it, I realized my grave mistake, and sent an apology imideatly. The response was: that "Wikipedia is not in need of your services, and never come here again" (Jewish guys were upset, boo-hoo-hoo.) What was werse, is that my block generated such unbelievable happiness among those Russian Jews. Comments were sent out on a Discussion Forum such as "thanks for blocking him" and "glad to see the blocking tag", which came from people that didn't even knew me. What was werse, is that upon writing them with explanation, I got critisized for breaking into Wikipedia, by being anonymous, (violating my block that way), and being called a Troll, which in their opinion is not considered to be a personal attack. In mine it was. Not to mention I am not the only one who is get blocked there. I told them that more than a half (60%) of Wikipedians lieve this site. On which they responded with saying "we have plenty of users, that are not an anti-semi, unlike you". Another thing that shocked me, is that its turns out to be perfectly O.K. for an administators and patrols on Russian Wikipedia to take control of new users, and try to get them in trouble, despite the rule "Don't bite the newbies" (surviving of the fittest). So, long story short, they didn't explain the rules to me well, I got blocked for anti-semi comments that I said out of frustration, and they were laughing at me after it. And then they are asking "why English Wkipedia have more articles?" The answer to it would be that its not only because English Wikipedia have more users, but it also because its much frendlier. People don't accuse me here of edits that they consider to be vandal. Yes, those edits that I made to articles like ÜberSoldier and others on English Wikipedia! I tried to do the same thing for the Russian one only by using actors like Eddie Murphy and others. I hope non of the things that mentioned here is considered to be offensive, or not going well with your talk page guidelines? If yes, don't sent me a warning or block me, just simply delete it. Thanks for taking time to understanding me. One more thing, you know a filling when you love your country, but the country you loove doesn't love you back? Regarding the part about ignoring the warnings, I'd advise you to at least take notice of them - don't delete them or anything, but try to follow them the best you can. I'm not sure how the system works at the Russian Wikipedia and how it is compared to the English Wikipedia, but if it's a fair place, then it's best to follow the advice of other users and try to remain calm and constructive when dealing with conflicts and disagreement. Even if users are rude and pushy, chances are they are just trying to help improve the wiki as you are just the same, even if it is a different approach. Above all is to keep a cool head by trying to understand where the other editors are coming from. May not solve all conflicts, but it will hopefully make it easier, and will help avoid incidents like the one you had with the negative comment. Thanks! Another thing I forgot to mention is that the patrol man was a huge fan of Jimmy Wells. Sure, I have no issue with that, but not if a guy saying it like this: "I would also note that the sorts of people who deny the Holocaust are generally the sorts of people who ought to be blocked on sight from editing Wikipedia". Which he said numerous of times on the Russian Wikipedia Arbitrage Hearing. Sure, I did denyed it out of frustration. Later on I did mentioned to them that "if a Holocaust denyer is a good editor, then he needs to allow to edit. Considering the freedom of speech." Now, funny thing is that the Russians believe that he anonymously go to the Russian Wikipedia. That sounded to me like a KGB official spying on me. Now, I check the English Wikipedia, and he doesn't have a Russian log in, which means he doesn't know Russian. I would be shocked if Putin and Jimmy Wells are best friends on Wikipedia, (keep in mind, its a joke:)). Regarding your comment about different systems in different Wikipedias, true. Its very hard for me to understand it. See, Russians explained to me that different Wikipedias have different rules and traditions, but, they are still part of one Wikipedia family. About it being a fair place, I wont say that. You see, when the AK decided to have hearing about my issues, we have me, my clerk, and one defendent (which came later), against 2 users that were complaining about me editing Wikipedia wrong, an administrator who blocked me (luckily he changed his mind about me being anti-semi), the patrol man whom I insulted (because he came to my talk page and started critisizing me, like he is the administrator. And his reaction was not met well by me, considering that I don't like people, who come out of nowhere, and pretend like they are in charge), and 2 other guys that were nutral to the whole thing. Another user mentioned to me something after they blocked me, but as I tried to explain to him (in case if he will come in my defence), the accusation party just silenced him, saying: "don't feed the troll", which to me was a personal attack, and not an honest one. Ofcourse the administators ignored that, and I can't go and complain about it anonymously, because that will be a violation of my "parole" there. Another thing that is very different, and I didn't knew it back then: You see, Ukranian Wikipedia have this very fair rule which states: "if you get blocked, even for unspecived amount of time, you are still welcome to participate in the AK hearing. They will let you know, and its your choice if you want to answer the call or not." Nice, hmm? Now, with the Russian one is completely oposide, and a bit dictatorial, which I don't like: You need to file a compaint with a clerk, after that the AK will vote on it in 3 months (in Ukranian is less then 2 weeks!), following 3 more months of writing a rule, and then voting on that rule (during which, you as a user can't even lieve messages on your talk page, or edit articles anonymously). After it, they might give a month of not doing anything, (a test on how much do you follow directions. If you will edit anything during this time frame, you will not get unblocked). If you don't get unblocked, then you can file another report no later then of 6 months from the last filing, or last violation (edit, etc). Now tell me, is this in your opinion sounds like "dictatorial or a fashistic ruling"? Speaking of constructive, my edits were in my opinion constructive, but in theirs, nope. Again, if I spoke anything that in your rules would consider a rule breaker, like the sentence before the last, please delete it. I just don't want Jimmy to come here and tell me his idea on my "fashistic ruling" comment, and block me after it! O' and about me being a "careful editor", I am afraid I am not just careful, I am a "sheepish and paranoid editor", :( Thanks to the Russian Jews, that scared me to death. Hey Mishae. Your userpage hasn't been vandalized, don't worry. Are you worried about how there is a tab at the top of your userpage telling you that are userpage is up for speedy deletion? Don't worry about that either, it confused me at first too, but I tracked the problem. I took a look at all your userboxes, and removed them until I was able to find the one that was causing the problem. Apparently this userbox on your userpage is up for deletion, and as a result, the speedy deletion tab appears at the top of your page. There's nothing to worry about, that's just an issue/bug with how the template works.

As for miscellany for deletion, that page is basically for discussing the deletion of any pages that are not articles, templates, files, categories, redirects, and stub types. So if I wanted to put, for example, a userpage or Wikiproject up for a deletion discussion, I would go to Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion to discuss it. It's a popular venue simply because there are a ton of pages that fall under miscellaneous pages, and many can be controversial (userpages can often be an area for debate, since users are always adding things that some may consider out of bounds). Regarding userboxes: Why are they nominated for deletion? KFC like KFC nothing to delete here (or nominate) in that case. Plus, it makes the creation of userboxes pointless, if a month or two after its creation, the speedy deletion is proposed. Shouldn't Wikipedia be more concerned about articles, rather then somebodys dumb template?:) Not to mention that, for example, Russian Wikipedia is in demand of more userboxes. If you take a look at the deletion discussion for the userbox, the KFC userbox was put up for deletion for potentially being advertising, which is not allowed in userboxes. The deletion discussion just ended though, and the overwhelming result was to keep the template. Everyone agreed that is wasn't advertising.

Userpages and userboxes, just like articles, have their own rules, and rightfully so. Sure, articles are the most important part of Wikipedia, but userpages still need to be regulated to help keep Wikipedia clean. If, for example, advertising were allowed on userpages, userpages would be a mess, as there would be a ton of users whose userpages would be used just for advertised companies and products. There are some more reasons that userpages could be deleted, too - userpages could also be deleted for being vandalism, giving out personal information about other users (or too much about themselves, especially for children), very offensive material, etc. Sure, the time could perhaps be better spent working on articles, but userpages still need to be held to a certain standard, just like everything else on the site. How much time and effort should be spent regulating userpages and userboxes is debatable, but it needs to happen to some extent in the end :) ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 01:31, 14 January 2012 (UTC)

Agree, but the "children" thing put me in question. How old you should be to edit Wikipedia? Sure, Russian Wikipedia have 13-15 year old users, but the majority is in their 20's, and later. Not to mention that Jimmy Wales wanted to create a "chick site, with encyclopedic reference" first, as far as I read on the history of Wikipedia, and Jimmy Wales himself. Correct me if I am wrong, but that means that children are not allowed here. Don't mean to descriminate people by its age. Plus, I understand that userpages and userboxes have their own rules, but it frightened me at first (and probably am not the only one). Wandering if people every month get bored here? Sure Wikipedia have close to 4,000,000 articles, but it doesn't mean that they should focus now on every userpage or userbox, just out of boredom. There's no age requirement for editing Wikipedia. I started editing when I was 12 I think, and I'm still a minor now (17). When I mentioned how userpages can be deleted for minors giving out personal information, I'm talking about situations such as a 12 year old posting their phone number on Wikipedia, unaware of the potential dangers that could come from that. A minor giving out his or her own phone number isn't abusive, it can lead to the abuse of the minor. With a phone number, online predators can potentially figure out the minor's name, and track down their address, which, while not likely, could still potentially lead to harassment, kidnapping, etc.

As for vandalism, I'm talking about userpages that serve as personal attacks, hoaxes and lies, etc. I can't really show you any examples, since, well, they'd be deleted. Yea, sure, I'll give a quick and basic description. Here in the US, there are two proposed laws: PIPA and SOPA (read the articles for more detail). The goal of these laws is to stop online piracy by getting rid of and blocking the sources of piracy and copyright infringement. While combating piracy can be a good thing, SOPA and PIPA are poorly written and do a bad job of doing what they want to, as they basically limit the free internet we know today. PIPA and SOPA will give the government and court the ability to block websites that are accused of copyright infringements, which is major. It's internet censorship. The bills also gives immunity to any internet services that take action against such websites, giving an even greater motivation for more strict blocking of websites that host copyright infringements. One big problem is that basically any social network or community-driven site such as Facebook, Youtube, or Wikipedia could be in trouble, as those types of sites commonly host copyrighted material, even though they may strive not to. Copyright infringements on these sites are basically inevitable, since the sites are user-driven and there will always be people on those sites uploading illegal content.

Because of this, Wikipedia, along with a handful of other sites, are "blacking out", or shutting themselves off from use. They're doing this in protest of SOPA and PIPA in order to get word out to everyone about why these laws cannot pass, and to send a message to Congress that there is a lot of opposition to the bills. Why can't they just focus on sites that actually "DO PROMOTE" piracy, like piratesbay.com, notoriously famous for their pirated video games? Or the like. Social networking sites like Facebook, Youtube, and Wikipedia, are not a part of pirated sites, we are followed by "free use", which means we are far away from being a pirate site. Another good idea would be: to legalize piracy as they did in some states with marijuana! Not to mention, why not legalize every drug. And you're exactly right, they're approaching the problem the wrong way by trying to pass SOPA/PIPA, which is why Wikipedia blacked out in protest. As for legalizing piracy, you bring up a good point, like drugs, since both are always going to happen if someone wants to pirate and/or do drugs. Now I still don't agree with legalizing piracy like drugs, but I see what you're saying and you raise a valid point. I just feel that legalizing piracy would make it sound right, and would result in a rise, causing loss for the people who make games and content on the internet. I don't want to argue, but here is my another great statement: See, I buy video games which don't carry any type of DRM, except for certain disk check ones. Now, it doesn't mean that I am a pirate, I buy games for myself, (sometimes on sale, sometimes at full price (especially if its a Russian made game)). The thing is, is that I buy games to support a specific art of a specific nation (call me an extleme "Russian patriot", but thats what I do. Same thing goes with music that I buy. Another thing to point out, (call me unmodern if you want) but I NEVER download games or music (pirated or not). O.K, so maybe to be honest, I used to deal with pirated games in Russia, but thats a different story. You see, Russian economy in the 1990's was pretty much abysmal to say the least. So, the prices, instead of going down, would go up. Such example would be books. For example I go to a store in America, and a book for preschool level kids (like Golden books type) sells for 4 bucks. Now, in Russia same book would cost 100 (convert a dollar into a rubble ($1 = 27 rubbles)). It even went a little bit over. Another thing to point out, I am a stamp collector. So I track the cost through this. From 1995-1997 our reginal and international rate was from 1500 to 5000 Rubbles. Thats a HUGE price per mail. Not to mention, back then not a lot of people had computers (let a lone the Internet, which didn't became public until 1996. In my country even later, 1997, I think). Now, lets look at a price tag for US stamps in this 2-year time frame, it was 32 cents.

Guess what? I'm a PC gamer too, as you can tell by the game articles I write! Yeah, another thing to point out. On Amazon.com there is always an arguement going on about which DRM is better? Steam, Electronic Arts's Origin, Ubisoft's Yuplay, Solid Shield, or SecuROM, etc. So, the answer always ends up that ALL DRM IS BAD (condsidering that some games require online activation, or constant Internet connection, which is definite no-no in my book). Especially, some people point out that DRM on games don't stop pirates (it stops legitimate customers). There were some cases when the game wouldn't work simply because. Yes, just because, for no reason. One of my friends, I remember bought a game (Red Alert 3, to be precise), installed it with an activation, went to bed. Woked up next day, turned his computer... Guess what? The game is not loading! And he had proper CD key, a brand new computer (Windows XP, with NVidia GeForce 8800, (twice, whats the minimum system requirements for his game stated), and he payed 50 (yes, 50 US $!), only to find out that his game won't work! Now, am I agreeing with it? Yes, and no. I would like to know your opinion on it? So, long story short: "An honest customer would always buy a game (me included)" Not honest custumer wont even go to a store to buy it, why do it? He can go to piratesbay.com and downloaded it for free (I am not in suport of it). So, your take on it? Speaking of pirates: In my country we used to have 1990's joke (that was focused on a Jewish question), I hope you wont get offended by it: A man comes to work as a movie maker. He tells his boss: "well, I just got hired here, so I am wondering is it O.K. if my grandma is a pirate?" His boss answers: "Sure, pirates used to live in XV century." "Then another question, my grandpa is Jewish, is that O.K. too?" The boss answers "Yeah, come to think of it being that your grandpa Jewish, thats O.K. I agree that the excessive security measures they use to stop pirates does way more harm than good, since it hurts the customers, but never stops the pirates. I'm a huge fan of Steam and and creator, Valve, though. I download all my games online from Steam whenever I can. From what I can tell, they do really care for their players and don't have any ridiculous security measures. The founder of Valve, Gabe Newell, is pretty spot on with his views on piracy:

"We think there is a fundamental misconception about piracy. Piracy is almost always a service problem and not a pricing problem," he said. "If a pirate offers a product anywhere in the world, 24 x 7, purchasable from the convenience of your personal computer, and the legal provider says the product is region-locked, will come to your country 3 months after the US release, and can only be purchased at a brick and mortar store, then the pirate's service is more valuable."

He's basically saying what you're saying: by trying to limit piracy, companies are also hurting their legitimate customers, ending up in more players pirating games. Oh, yea, no doubt that downloading large games takes a long time (doesn't matter what browser he had, just his internet connection). Steam put the entire Grand Theft Auto series on sale a few months ago for 13 dollars and I snatched that, ended up taking an entire weekend to download. I buy all of my games on Amazon.com very cheap there. However, I only buy new games from there cheap, only when they serve a good amount of time on a "shelf" (i.e. reviews). So, first I read reviews, then I wait a year until the price will go down, and then I buy. Not to mention I don't buy games above 30.00 dollars price range, and there is a reason for it: First, I work only once a week (and get my paycheck every 2 weeks). Second, as far as game and price go, the game won't change in itself, (same thing goes for any entertainment thing, (TV, DVDs, etc))(i.e, its not like you are buying food). So, when my friend bought Red Alert 3, and then complained to me why it didn't work, I told him: "Don't spend 40-60 bucks on games, the price range wont change the gameplay or the graphics." On that, he bought Gothic series for 30.00 bucks, but then complained that only 1 game worked! From what I read, is that Gothic 3 was a horrible game overall, and Gothic 1 had control issues. So, lesson learned here: Always reseach a game before you buy (i.e, read reviews on Amazon.com and GameSpot), and buy them below 30 bucks per game. I had an example too: My friend bought me The Sims: Vacation (for my birthday in 2002), but only 6 months later I found out that the game had some bugs. One of which, altough not a game breaker, (but lets say, doesn't look pretty), i.e, holes in the roofs. So, there is no patch awailable... Wanna know my solution to it? I used to play a lot of RTS games, such as Age of Empires 1 and 2 (with the expansion packs), and Empire Earth (1, with an Expansion pack). My favorite RTS would have been: Theatre of War, Cuban Missile Crisis: The Aftermath, and Ancient Wars: Sparta. I also used to play The Sims and The Sims 2 (with 4 expansion packs for each, and 5 stuff packs for The Sims 2). I also have FIFA 2002, and NHL 2004 (which I don't play that much, because I have lots of other games and hobbies). As time went by, I went to college, but couldn't take it (due to my autism), and got diagnosed with OCD, because of my playful atitude toward college (i.e. I play The Sims, my mom do the work for me, costantly arguing with me). Then I started to buy RPGs and Adventure games. Most of my RPGs are either Diablo clones (like Depths of Peril. Infact its the only one I own, that is Diablo like), or turn-base/RPG (like Elven Legacy, Heroes of Might and Magic V and King's Bounty: The Armored Princess]]). From adventure games I have: Barrow Hill, Rhiannon: Curse of the Four Branches, Return to Mysterious Island, Murder in the Abbey, Nibiru: Age of Secrets (never finished it), RHEM 4: The Golden Fragments (wrote an article on it as well, but never finished the game), Syberia (1 and 2, loved both, can't wait for a third one to come out!), Outcry (loved it!). I also own Avencast: Rise of the Mage (never finished it), which is an adventure/RPG hybrid. Then I have some racing games: Rig'n'Roll, Demolition Champions, 18 Wheels of Steel: Extreme Trucker, Midnight Outlaw: 6 Hours to Sun Up, and Championsheep Rally (all 3 didn't even started yet). I also have RTS/RPG hybrid called: Hinterland: Orc Lords, and symulation game Tropico 3 (with an expansion pack). And last but not least, FPS: DOOM, and Hostage Rescue: Close-Quarters Combat. And games that I bought, but due to my low system requirements couldn't played: SAS: Secure Tomorrow (yes, I wrote the article on it as well), and ÜberSoldier 2. Now I play less, and do Wikipedia more. I even bought Chronicles of Mystery games to not only play them, but to write an article or 2 on it as well. Currently I am planning on buying Art of Murder series, and Edna and Harvey series, for the same reason. On Russian Wikipedia, I remember, some users yelled at me for saying that "Wikipedia is work for me". They taught that I was being payed for my articles, in reality I just donate my whole day to Wikipedia, in 4 languages.

I'm not sure what you need exactly. Mishae is already deleted, putting a deletion request on the page would simply be re-creating an already deleted article.

Ah, gotcha. I took a look at what was causing it, it was the second infobox. I'll see what I can find. The reason why we can't use copyrighted images of bugs as opposed to game covers is because it is possible to create a freely licensed image of a bug, but impossible to obtain a freely licensed image of a game cover. In other words, say we needed to find an image of a ladybug to add to the ladybug article. All someone would have to do is go out, find a lady bug, take a photo of it, and upload it online under a free license. Now, say I wanted to illustrate the article on the game World of Goo - the only possible way to accurately show our readers what the game looks like would be to use copyrighted images, since all game covers and screenshots are copyrighted to the game creators. There is no other option, so we apply fair use in order to use these copyrighted images. There are some exceptions to this, but that rarely happens. Basically, it comes down to this: if it is possible to get a freely licensed image of something, then a copyrighted image cannot be used. From what I can see, that includes game box too. The mission of the Wikimedia Commons is to provide free images, and only free images. As a result, game boxes and other copyrighted materials must be uploaded to the separate wikis. Just because I took a picture of a goat doesn't mean it's my hobby ;) I was just at the zoo one day and snapped pictures of whatever animals I could. I don't explicitly go out with my camera though on safaris or anything, the animals I've photographed are from the times I've come across animals in my backyard or at parks while I had my camera on me.

When I say that images on the Wikimedia Commons can be used on "other wikis", I'm referring to all Wikimedia wikis, in all the languages. So yes, that includes all the Wikimedia wikis listed here, in all language editions. Free images should generally be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, as they can then be used by all Wikimedia wikis. I gave it a shot with the references, is this what you were aiming for? Alas, I couldn't find any pictures, sorry - there's actually a pretty low chance of finding free images of specific bugs such as these. The best bet would be to contact someone who has a picture and asking them if they would like to release their image under a free license. As for the images you found, those are not free. The author is selling high-resolution versions of those images on that site. Both those images you linked to cannot be used. The first one, from Flickr, is freely licensed, but still does not permit people from using the image commercially (in other words, make money off of it). That is something that is needed for free images on Wikipedia, so we cannot use that. Remember, there are a variety of free licenses, but only certain ones can be accepted on Wikipedia. Can you show me how to do it? About Mr. Lindsey: Maybe I will send you some images from flickr? Altough, I don't see e-mails or any contact info of any flickrian! Another question, I realized that in some Wiki projects you have Retired users. Is it O.K. for me or somebody else to delete them from a project? The thing is is that in project Video games for example, we have 2 users that are listed as active, but when you click on their user page it says that they are retired (apparently from Wikipedia in general). And it does take some space, which can be used by non retired user, like me. Perhaps, some users usually forget to delete their user page after they decided to retire. As for the inactive users in the WikiProjects, I'd imagine that it would be all right to move any users who have not editing for at least several months to the inactive users list, if available. I wouldn't delete them, just move them. As I said, what I recommend doing is moving any inactive users to the inactive members category of each WikiProject - and that is only my recommendation, I don't necessarily represent the consensus of Wikipedia users.

I unfortunately am having a hard time understanding what exactly is going on, since a lot of the conflict is written in Russian. Thats O.K. I talked with him on talk page. From what he explained to me that both sites were in some kind of "war". The Traditio users were accused of admin vote rigging on the Russian Wikipedia. Also, they created their site as an "attack page" on Russian Wikipedians. Now, all that was in 2007, and both sites are now calm, majority of attacks was removed, and no vote rigging have been reported ever since that year. I looked more into your recent edits to talk pages, and I believe Johann does have some merit in reverting your messages on talk pages. Nothing is wrong with just mentioning the site, and if you happen to be talking to a user who you think would be interested in joining Traditio, then sure, it wouldn't be out of line to refer one or two people to the site this way - but if you start going around to multiple talk pages and "advertise" by trying to recruit a mass number of users to the site, that can be looked down upon and considered WP:SPAM. I recommend you hold off on trying to get multiple users to join Traditio by going to users who edit(ed) RuWikipedia on their talk page. Well, that's the thing - what some might consider spam might be considered all right to others. Just keep this in mind while posting: The main point of Wikipedia talk pages is to discuss and help improve Wikipedia. That's the spirit of talk pages. What you want to do with that phrase is up to you.

There's no set amount - like I said, the general guideline to follow is that discussions should be about improving Wikipedia. So ideally, the number of times you'd want to stray from the mission statement would be...zero. Just keep what you do on Wikipedia related to Wikipedia itself and you'll be fine ;)

Basically, this will happen if a user is problematic and has been blocked on several wikis, specifically after being blocked indefinitely on at least two or more separate projects.
