PBSKIDS[edit]

Hello SuperHamster/Archive, thank you for your contributions on articles related to PBS Kids. I'd like to invite you to become a part of Wikipedia:WikiProject PBSKids, a WikiProject aimed at improving the quality of PBS Kids articles on Wikipedia. If you would like to participate, please visit the project page for more information. Thanks!

I'll consider, though I'd rather devote my time to the few projects that I'm already in for the following months. Thanks, ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 23:54, 28 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you![edit]

SuperHampster,

Thank you for your updates on the Flux Family Secrets: The Ripple Effect article. We've had users request these pages and it's taken us a long time to actually address it. We hope people continue to edit it so that it's as unbiased and representative of the game and it's element to provide readers with what they would expect. Again, thank you for your improvements. Btw - a skunk isn't such a bad choice of animal :)

You're welcome; I'll also see if I can edit the rest of the articles to make them appropriate for WP. I do happen to be quite fond of skunks, too. Thanks, ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 05:08, 29 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Backlog Elimination Drive Has Begun[edit]

Hello, I just wanted to take a moment and announce that the July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive has started, and will run for a month. Thanks for signing up. There's a special prize for most edits on the first day, in case you've got high ambitions. Enjoy! ɳorɑfʈ Talk! 04:13, 1 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads up. I've got a question - is the award for the most edits based on the number of articles copyedited, or the number of words in those articles? ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 04:16, 1 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The first-day award is based on number of articles. ɳorɑfʈ Talk! 04:21, 1 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Great, thanks. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 04:22, 1 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have a question that I hoped you could answer. If a user, WikiLubber, has been accused of sockpuppetry in the past, why in the world was he granted reviewer status? That doesn't seem very logical to me. Nicholasm79 (talk) 02:58, 2 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'll admit, I never expected to be granted reviewer status myself, because I never knew about that role. WikiLubber (talk) 03:45, 2 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Nicholas, and hi again WikiLubber. For the best answer to your question, Nicholas, I recommend that you ask the administrator that administered the right; the right is given based on the judgment of a sole administrator, so there's sure to be disagreement every so often. My answer? I really can't give you a good one, since I'm not the one that gave him the right, nor can I give it even if I wanted to; I can, however, give my input on why I believe that the reviewer right may have been given to WikiLubber. Reviewer rights are granted based most heavily on a user's experience with editing articles and the related policy that is used in maintaining articles. WikiLubber is quite experienced in article editing, and has demonstrated knowledge of related policy (e.g. verifying through sources, removal of excessive and unnecessary content, detecting and reverting vandalism, etc.). That is basically all one needs to know to get reviewer rights, per the criteria for becoming a reviewer. The point of reviewer rights is to enable a user to approve an edit if it follows policy; WikiLubber, I believe, can detect that. It is true that he has been blocked in the past for both edit warring and sockpuppetry, but the policy regarding edit warring and sockpuppetry is more indirectly related to article content; in other words, one could write an excellent article and can know what should and should not go into an article without ever knowing the rules regarding edit warring and sockpuppetry. That is the train of though that I believe the admin may have had when WikiLubber was granted those rights; in addition, I think WikiLubber may have learned his lesson from those previous blocks. In another addition, reviewer rights aren't a huge deal; last I checked, close to 5,000 editors have it. That's just my input as to why he may have been granted them, though - again, be sure to ask the admin who gave the right if you disagree with their judgment, and they may be able to give an answer that actually reflects their train of thought, instead of me providing my own. Thanks, ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 19:32, 2 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Spam blacklist[edit]

Even if nobody else had taken care of it, I wouldn't have done it — the blacklist is helpful, but I don't understand the way it works, so I'd be afraid of breaking something. Nyttend (talk) 03:15, 14 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I understand, it probably wasn't the best idea for me to pick a random admin (but I wanted to assure that it was done in a rather timely manner). It does seem a bit confusing, seeing how it rearranges all of the links. Thanks for your time. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 03:20, 14 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Asscake?[edit]

Thanks Hamster! BTW, my oldest daughter was thrilled: I put bacon on her fries tonight. Drmies (talk) 03:33, 14 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. That's the exact same question that shot through my head: who uses the term "asscake", or "asscorn" for that matter? Cake, corn, bacon, and fries...it's all making me hungry for a midnight snack. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 03:36, 14 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I read of a strange snack recently... Drmies (talk) 03:40, 14 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm....wooden veggie drumsticks complete with spicy Indian sauce. I myself haven't had much Indian food, only some soup and pita at a friend's house. I should find myself a nice Indian restaurant...of course, I'm not one to stand the higher-end of the spicy food spectrum. Ah well. McDonald's does one good. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 03:48, 14 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Make Beer At Home[edit]

Sorry about all this, I didn't realize the article was a copy-vio. I thought it would be easiest to delete the AfD rather than formally close it, but do what you think is best. Grondemar 02:24, 16 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No worries. I've already closed the discussion as "nominator withdrawal", so it's all good. I assume the route of simply deleting it could have been an option, but I find this to be a bit more "formal", if you wish to put it that way. GOCE Newsletter[edit]

GOCE July 2010 backlog elimination drive chart

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive! We have now passed the halfway point, so here's an update.

Progress Report - Progress toward the targets has been good. 751 articles out of the approximately 1,600 we would like to get completed by the end of the month were done by July 15, so we will be very close to meeting the target for volume. However, we would like to clear all of the 2008 articles from the backlog, and there are still 892 left to do. Please consider choosing one of these older articles when looking for something to copy edit. If we focus our firepower we can completely wipe out 2008 from the queue.

Participation Report - 95 people signed up for the July drive. This is a great result compared to May, when we had 36. However, in May only one person that signed up didn't do any copy edits, and in July only 59 of the 95 have posted any copy edits on the big board.

The task may seem insurmountable but please remember that if all 95 participants copy edit just one article a day from now until the end of the month, we will eliminate 1,300 more articles from the backlog. So please consider participating at whatever level you can! All contributions are appreciated.

This newsletter was prepared for the GOCE by Diannaa (Talk), S Masters (talk), and The Raptor Let's talk.

Hello SuperHamster, welcome to WikiProject Apple Inc.! We aim to create and improve articles related to Apple Inc. Feel free to post ideas at the general forums and look at our "how to help" list for things to do. Happy editing! mono 02:20, 20 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks - though I must say, that is rather late ;) Better late than never, though, as cliché as that phrase happens to be. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 02:23, 20 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please explain how my addition was copyright[edit]

Please recheck my contribution that you deleted. This is Brandon Flowers own words. No specific site owns rights to it. I found this biography on multiple sites. What I added is beneficial to Wikipedia and people trying to learn about this person. Please show me where this was copyrighted. By deleting the first thing someone adds to wiki without full detailed explanation does not engender the Wikipedia spirit and can keep people from adding helpful things in the future. thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Absolutenurse (talkcontribs) 06:38, 25 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I re-looked at your edit, but I came to the same conclusion that it's a copyright violation. On Wikipedia, article content is released under the CC-BY-SA 3.0 license, and unless you have proof that the work you copied into the article is released under this license (or into the public domain), it's a copyright violation. It doesn't matter that multiple sites have the biography - someone owns the copyright for it, and unless you have permission to release the work or proof that the work is released under a license compatible with Wikipedia, it doesn't belong here. Please read Wikipedia:Copyright violations, which covers this in more depth. In addition, let's take a look again at your edit again. You state that the content is written by Brandon Flowers, but that doesn't seem to be the case - there are several quotes in there from him, but it seems to be a biography entry that is ultimately written by somebody else (unless Brandon Flowers enjoys referring to himself in third person POV). Also, even if Brandon Flowers did write it, it doesn't make a difference - then he owns the copyrights to the work, rather than somebody else. Thanks, ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 15:31, 25 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Toontown Online edit reverted[edit]

I have reverted your edit to Toontown Online. The IP user was simply removing an error in the article where the entire contents were duplicated twice, as see here, and ClueBot reverted it in error. I would suggest dropping a line at User talk:188.161.198.185 since the user was accused of vandalism in error, that way they don't feel upset towards Wikipedians. Thanks --Teancum (talk) 20:47, 28 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oops! You're correct, I should have looked at that more closely. Thank you for pointing that out; I've struck both mine and ClueBot's warnings, and left a message for the anonymous user apologizing to them. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 21:07, 28 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

August 2010[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, at least one of your recent edits, such as the one you made to User talk:TK-CP, did not appear to be constructive and has been reverted or removed. Please use the sandbox for any test edits you would like to make, and read the welcome page to learn more about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. Thank you. You are an administrator, as is "Nuttish" at a site generally thought to be dedicated to the destruction of CP. Your continued posting on topics unrelated to Wikipedia is indeed considered by me to be vandalism...and since my personal talk page is just that, mine, my opinion is all that counts, sir.

If you don't want your edits to my personal talk page branded as vandalism, the solution is quite simple; don't post to my Wikipedia page about other sites, and especially do not post there to promote your vandal site. If you or others continue to post there about non-Wikipedia topics, I will indeed ask for sanctions. TK-CP (talk) 17:56, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please do go ahead and explain how this message, or any other message that I have ever left for you on your talk page on Wikipedia for that matter, is a message that is unrelated to Wikipedia and is essentially me promoting another wiki. I have never, ever posted anything on your talk page that has nothing to do with Wikipedia and is promotional of another website, and I do not appreciate you telling me not to perform such actions when I have never done so. Find one example of me doing so, and I will take this all back.
In addition, while leniency is given to users to control their own talk page, there is a limit to how far that goes, and labeling valid warnings and comments regarding various policies on Wikipedia as threats and vandalism passes that limit. Your opinion is not all that counts, TK, even if it is "your own talk page". The talk page is a place for users to be able to easily approach others regarding issues related to Wikipedia, and when one cannot do so without having their message deleted and being labelled as vandalism or a threat, that is considered disruptive. And it's not just me saying this. Please take a look at WP:UP#OWN. As stated there, "Traditionally Wikipedia offers wide latitude to users to manage their user space as they see fit. However, pages in user space belong to the wider community. They are not a personal homepage, and do not belong to the user. They are part of Wikipedia, and exist to make collaboration among editors easier." ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 18:17, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, just shut up. Wide latitude was NEVER contemplated to mean carrying arguments not related to WP to a users page here. Just no longer post to my page about anything unrelated to Wikipedia, is all. Your continued protestations and attempts at public gang-rape to help out yet another administrator at RW is suspect and highly transparent. I ask you again to no longer plague my talk page or harass me. --TK-CP (talk) 19:35, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Once again, please do provide even one example of me posting a message to your talk page that is unrelated to Wikipedia. You continue to say that I should stop leaving messages on your talk page that are unrelated to Wikipedia, when you fail to provide even one example of me doing so. All that I was doing was informing you of Wikipedia policy when you labeled a non-vandalism edit as vandalism. I never "carried over" any arguments from anywhere else - I was simply warning you of a Wikipedia policy that you violated (which, by the way, you are breaking two more with your message above). Now you say that I'm harassing you, on top of that (I also ask of you to provide evidence of me doing that on your talk page, since you bring it up). This isn't "gang-rape", regardless if both Nuttish and I are both active contributors to RationalWiki - this is Wikipedia, and I was informing you of Wikipedia policies that you should be aware of. I fail to see the point that you are trying to make when you fail to provide any evidence whatsoever of me performing what you ask me to stop doing. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 20:23, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Additionally, TK-CP, don't template the regulars. mono 20:25, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

GOCE Backlog Elimination Drive Wrap-up[edit]

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. Thanks to all who participated in the drive! Over 100 editors—including Jimbo Wales—signed up this time (nearly triple the participants of the May drive). This benefited the Guild as well as the articles in need of copy editing. You can see from the comparison graphs that we increased the number of completed copyedits substantially. Unfortunately, we were not able to meet our goal of completely wiping out 2008 from the queue. We also were not able to reduce the backlog to less than 6,000 articles. We suspect people were busy with real life summertime things, at least in the northern hemisphere! We were able to remove the months of January, February, March, April, and May from the backlog, and we almost wiped out the month of June. We reduced the backlog by 1,289 articles (17%), so all in all it was a very successful drive, and we will be holding another event soon. We'll come up with some new ideas to try to keep things fresh and interesting. Keep up the good work, everybody!

Stats
If you copy edited at least 4,000 words, you qualify for a barnstar. If you edited in the May 2010 GOCE Backlog Elimination Drive, your word totals are cumulative for barnstars (not the leaderboard). Over the course of the next week or two, we will be handing out the barnstars.

Blanked page[edit]

Hi, SuperHamster. Sorry to have disturbed. Silvia3 is my previous username. However, I just decided to start a new username, and I moved the content of that page to the new username. As it was an user page, I didn't think it would disturb, but you are right... Do you think it is better to delete the blanked page? Thanks, --Dawn08 (talk) 13:48, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I just saw that it is not so simple to decide to change the username... Well, maybe you can tell me what it is best to do, I am not so motivated to change if this is going to create problems... Cheers, --Dawn08 (talk) 14:13, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I see what happened. While I was patrolling the recent changes, I saw that somebody had blanked a user subpage of another user, so I naturally reverted it. You didn't do anything wrong, it was just a misunderstanding on my part. You can go ahead and blank User:Silvia3/Useful tools once again, perhaps leaving an edit summary that states that Dawn08 is your new account, to avoid any further confusion.
Another option, as you state, is to request for it to be deleted. It's not necessary, but if you want to, you can tag the page for speedy deletion under speedy deletion criteria U1. You will have to leave a note, however, that states that you are the same user as Silvia3, so the admin who is reviewing your request knows that you are the same user. For example (you can use it if you want), you can just copy the following below onto your userpage, which will produce both the tag for speedy deletion, and a note that states that you and Silvia3 are the same user:
<center><font color="red">Note: The following deletion request is made by Dawn08, who is Silvia3 under a new account name.</font></center> db-userreq
I'm not sure what you motives are (so perhaps what I'm about to say isn't an option that fits your needs), but in the future, if you ever want to change you username again, you can request to change your username rather than create a new account. In the process of renaming, it conveniently moves all your contributions and userpages from your old username to the new username.
Hope this helps. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 15:45, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot for your help, SuperHamster. I followed your advice and marked that page for deletion. I didn't know one could request a change in name, there are many politics and I am more interested in plain edition. Next time, if ever... Cheers, --Dawn08 (talk) 21:22, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. Just a small note, but you seem to have missed copying the entire code. The "db-userreq" part of the code was also supposed to be copied over, as that is the actual part that produces the request for speedy deletion. I have since added it for you. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 21:48, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ready yet?[edit]

Hey SuperHamster, awhile ago i asked you if you wanted me to nominate you for adminship, i'm just checking back with you to see if you're ready yet. Do you accept? - Dwayne was here! 06:15, 4 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dwayne. Thanks again for the kind offer. It's a tempting one, but I think that I'm going to hold out a bit longer on it. There are some defined things that I want to get done before running for adminship, for example, cleaning up and updating the first article I've ever created, among other things (such as doing a userspace revamp that'll focus more on my contributions to Wikipedia). I also feel that I could use some more experience in general. On top of that, I've been kinda burned out recently compared to other times, so I don't think right now, at this instance, would be an ideal time for me run for adminship. Thank you very much, once again, for the offer and consideration. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 17:35, 4 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
 • Okay, i'll be checking back at the end of this year, if that's okay. - Dwayne was here! 04:28, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You don't have to go through the trouble - when I feel like I'm ready to run for adminship, I'll come and fetch you :) Thanks again, ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 04:50, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

GOCE Backlog Elimination Drive invitation[edit]

There are currently
2,745 articles in the backlog.
You can help us! Join the
September 2010 drive today!

The Guild of Copy-Editors – September 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive

The Wikipedia Guild of Copy-Editors invite you to participate in the September 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive, a month-long effort to reduce the backlog of articles that require copy-editing. The drive will begin on 1 September at 00:00 (UTC) and will end on 30 September at 23:59 (UTC). The goals for this drive are to eliminate 2008 from the queue and to reduce the backlog to fewer than 5,000 articles.

Sign-up has already begun at the September drive page, and will be open throughout the drive. If you have any questions or concerns, please leave a message on the drive's talk page.

Before you begin copy-editing, please carefully read the instructions on the main drive page. Please make sure that you know how to copy-edit, and be familiar with the Wikipedia Manual of Style.

Awards and barnstars
A range of barnstars will be awarded to active participants. Some are exclusive to GoCE drives. More information on awards can be found on the main drive page.

Thanks from the GOCE[edit]

Thank you very much for signing up for the Guild of Copy Editors' September Backlog Elimination Drive! The copyedit backlog stretches back two years, to the summer of 2008! We're going to need all the help we can muster to reduce the backlog to a manageable size. We've set a goal of clearing all of 2008 from the backlog, and getting the total under 5000. To do that, we're going to need more participants. Please invite anyone you can to join the drive! Once again, thanks for your support! If you have any questions, contact one of our coordinators—ɳorɑfʈ Talk!, The Raptor You rang?, or SMasters (Talk).

Bacon[edit]

Is it to late to sign up for the 2011 Bacon Challenge? I was thinking of entering. Spongie555 (talk) 18:42, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Definitely not, as we could always use more participants (so I hope you join!). Sign-ups never really end - I don't see why someone should not be allowed to sign-up even the day before the challenge ends (which is a good 6 months or so away from now). Participation is pretty slow right now, since the event is nearly a year long, but I'm planning on doing a "bacon rush" in January to bring in more participation by sending out notices to participants, and possibly even offering barnstars for effort. Thanks for you interest, ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 23:15, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I signed up for the 2011 Bacon Challenge. Also how many points does Valued Pictures give you? Spongie555 (talk) 03:45, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for signing up. I've added your name to the submissions list, in addition to the score table. Since you bring the subject of valued pictures up, I've re-visited the scoring system for images and have revamped it to include valued pictures, and to also include the nomination of bacon-related images. Here's how the scoring for images is now:
 • Uploading a self-made bacon-related image scores 3 points
 • Uploading an appropriately-licensed bacon-related image authored by someone else scores 2 points
As a result, if the image you recently nominated to achieve valued picture status passes, you'll receive three points.
Oh, and one last thing - would you like to signup for a country to represent in the challenge? You can chose any one you want, whether it be one that you live in, used to live in, your blood-line lies, or just because you like it. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 17:52, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes i would like to represent Bhutan for the challange. Spongie555 (talk) 18:43, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
 Done. Thanks, ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 18:48, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hey you should know that the person in first place, Once an IP. Was banned beacause it was a sockpuppet. Spongie555 (talk) 03:30, 30 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reminder - I was made aware of that a long time ago, but thought that it may be best to just leave them on the scoreboard, since I don't see a compelling reason to go either way in keeping or disqualifying them. Since you bring it up, though, what I think I'll do is leave the user on the scoreboard, but remove them from the ranking system (so they will not hold first place anymore). I'll get to updating it as soon as I've got time (I've got a big pile of homework staring at me from my desktop right now). Thanks, ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 22:40, 30 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Im suprised how much Bacon article there are. I am nominating 2 bacon related pictures on valued picture currently. Do you get points for nominating or do i have to wait for it to pass? Im suprised theres no Bacon Task force or WikiProject. Spongie555 (talk) 04:26, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yea, there are quite a lot - perhaps more than the average person would expect. And sorry, your nomination has to be successful for you to get points - otherwise, everyone could nominate every bacon image in existence, and, well, that's not good. As for the task force or WikiProject...there is *something* like that, it's the Bacon Cabal (though I must note that not much is actually going on there). ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 11:08, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wikify Drive[edit]

Since you signed up for the September 2010 GOCE event, I wanted to invite you to participate in a similar event: the September 2010 Wikification Backlog Elimination Drive. In case you didn't know, "Wikification" is the process of formatting articles using Wiki markup (as opposed to plain text or HTML) and adding internal links to material. Barnstars will be awarded to participating editors. Thanks!

Itsa fan-fic, not vandalism. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Moralreflections (talkcontribs) 21:17, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is not a webspace provider for you to publish your own publications, such as a story; it is an encyclopedia, and a fan-fiction does not constitute as an encyclopedia entry. That's in addition to the fact that your entry is defamatory and is, quite purely, vandalism. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 21:25, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Toy Story list[edit]

Your edits (and mine) to List of Toy Story characters were reverted by User:TheRealFennShysa with an edit summary of "rv to last known good version - please take it to talk yourself before such a massive set of deletions" after I implored an IP editor to not reinsert the material without explaining at talk. So, I started a discussion at Talk:List_of_Toy_Story_characters#Major_cleanup. Thought you might be interested. Novaseminary (talk) 13:53, 30 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the notification. It's quite a shame that all the content has been removed, especially since it's going from a long, comprehensive, yet unsourced article to a far shorter one that has the same problems. I don't think that there's much for me to add, but I'll watch the discussion and/or article and see where it goes. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 22:29, 30 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

October drive[edit]

Sorry, guys. The wikification drive has been bumped to October. You might have noticed already, however. I'm amazed how many people came on as soon as I sent out the invite. With a few more, we can easily meet our goal. Just remember. Concentrate your firepower on the 2008 articles, and you should have no problems. Great work! Also, if you have time, please also invite other users to participate. Thanks!

Gotcha, looks good now - thanks for that, and thanks also for correcting the time. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 04:50, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I thought it was funny, and in my opinion true, plus it's my page so w/e —Preceding unsigned comment added by Passionless (talkcontribs) 04:59, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's not funny, nor is it allowed in the least bit; it does not matter if it is your page or not; it is the comment of another user, and changing its meaning is not only rude, but it can cause conflicts and sets forwards a false interpretation of what the user actually meant. Repeatedly doing so will be considered disruptive, so please - don't do it again. It would be a good idea to read, or at least skim through Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines for a good understanding, particularly this section which pertains to editing comments. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 05:05, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I claim protection under WP:IGNORE, maintaining my page —Preceding unsigned comment added by Passionless (talkcontribs) 05:07, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Notice the first ten words of the policy: "If a rule prevents you from improving or maintaining Wikipedia". Changing the meaning of another user's comment is clearly not so, nor does one claim "protection" under WP:IGNORE - that's against the spirit of it. WP:IGNORE is there to provide users with an insight that basically states that if something will clearly and undoubtedly make Wikipedia better, you can go ahead and do it. It is not there as a defense when someone breaks a serious policy; otherwise, vandals would never be blocked. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 05:12, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

GOCE newsletter[edit]

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive!

GOCE September 2010 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

Participation report — We have 71 participants in the September drive. 95 people signed up for the July drive, and in May we had 36.

Progress report — We have been making solid progress in eliminating the 2008 articles from the backlog so far. If we continue to focus our firepower we can completely wipe out 2008 from the queue. Overall volumes are lower than expected though, with nearly a thousand articles yet to be done if we are to meet our overall target. If you have not yet participated in the drive, we recommend you do so. If each person who signed up edits one article per day from now till the end of the month we can eliminate another 1,065 articles from the backlog. All contributions are appreciated.

Announcement: credit for 10k+ articles — Participants editing a 10k word article may claim credit for two 5k+ articles on the leaderboard. Those that edit a 15k word article may claim credit for three. Regardless, the article is still counted as a single article in the tallies.

Reminder — Articles from the Requests page can be included in your tally, even if they do not have a copy edit tag. This is a great place to go if you are interested in finding a higher quality article to work on.

September 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive Conclusion[edit]

GOCE September 2010 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors September 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. Thanks to all who participated! Several of our top editors were called away to real life concerns during the month (be careful out there, people!). This meant that once again, we did not meet all our lofty targets, but we did come close.

Stats

 • Out of 76 registered editors, 45 actively participated.
 • We nearly wiped out the 2008 articles from the backlog—there were only 13 remaining when the drive closed.
 • We reduced the backlog by 725 articles (11.5%), so it was another successful drive.
 • A total of 59 barnstars will be awarded to 40 editors—well done, and congratulations to all.

Barnstars
If you copy edited at least 4,000 words, you qualify for a barnstar. If you edited in the July 2010 GOCE Backlog Elimination Drive, you may have earned rollover words, which counted towards this month's barnstars (except for the leaderboard awards). Any unused word credits will be held over for the next drive, as long as you participated in the September drive. Over the course of the next week or two, we will be handing out the barnstars. Click here to see a list of barnstar winners.

 • We will be holding our next drive in November. You can sign up here.

A huge "thank you" to all editors who helped clear the backlog and to others who helped out behind-the-scenes. See you at the next drive, and until then, please continue to help us work through the backlog. Happy editing!

And another thank you for seeing if there are others interested with the cup. If you would like to have others work on some of your article ideas too, you are free to add any articles that could use attention, expansion, and whatnot here - and I just took the time to make the list at least a little bit presentable. November copy edit drive[edit]

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive!

The Wikipedia Guild of Copy-Editors invites you to participate in the November 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive, a month-long effort to reduce the backlog of articles that require copy-editing. The drive will begin on 1 November at 00:00 (UTC) and will end on 30 November at 23:59 (UTC). The goal for this drive is to reduce the backlog by 10% (approximately 500 articles). We hope to focus our efforts on the oldest three months (January, February, and March 2009) and the newest three months (September, October, and November 2010) of articles in the queue.

Sign-up has already begun at the November drive page, and will be open throughout the drive. If you have any questions or concerns, please leave a message on the drive's talk page.

Before you begin copy-editing, please carefully read the instructions on the main drive page. Please make sure that you know how to copy-edit, and be familiar with the Wikipedia Manual of Style.

Awards and barnstars

A range of barnstars will be awarded to active participants, some of which are exclusive to GOCE drives. More information on awards can be found on the main drive page.

Thank you; we look forward to meeting you on the drive!

Let you know[edit]

Cirt told me to let you know that i've joined the Bacon Wikicup, so I can be added to the grid. This is going to be fun. :3 SilverserenC 22:50, 23 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Bacon WikiCup query[edit]

Hiya SuperHamster, I added some submissions (six, so far), at User:SuperHamster/Bacon WikiCup 2011/Submissions. Could I prevail upon you to update User:SuperHamster/Bacon WikiCup 2011? Thank you for your time, -- Cirt (talk) 07:47, 24 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Done - sorry about the wait. I was planning to get all caught up this weekend, but I was bombarded with things to do (including making a plush mole doll for chemistry class...don't ask me how that's educational, 'cause it's not), so thanks for being patient. I should be all caught up now, with everyone scored. In addition, I revamped the scoring system to place emphasis on content creation and expansion - you'll be pleased to know that you rocketed to first. Great work on all the pages, by the way. They look great. Thanks, ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 00:25, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks very much! ;) Cheers, -- Cirt (talk) 00:27, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

How come the scoring table is not "sortable", like last year's? -- Cirt (talk) 00:28, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The primary reason that I didn't include it was to save space; we can add it in, though, if you want. I'll just have to adjust the formatting real quick to allow it to be sortable. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 00:36, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks. ;) -- Cirt (talk) 00:41, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
 Done ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 00:47, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'd suggest Once-An-IP (talk · contribs) should be removed, for two reasons - both for being a sock, and indef-blocked. -- Cirt (talk) 00:49, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

And another  Done. I had originally left the user there for the sake of record-keeping, but I see that it can be annoying to have their score mingled now that scores can be sorted. By the way, I've gotta go now, so if there's anything else you think should be done, you're free to do so - this is by no means just restricted to me. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 01:23, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks so much. Cheers, -- Cirt (talk) 01:25, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If you wish to positively contribute in an encyclopedic fashion, then do go ahead and do so; you are not blocked from editing at the moment. The message I left on your talk page is simply warning you that if you continue with your current behavior, it could very well result in a block. If you wish to continue editing, doing so would require taking heed to the messages left on your talk page, advising you of several policies that you should pay attention to and why your articles are being deleted. Otherwise, continuing to create non-notable and attack pages will indeed result in a block. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 02:55, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Images[edit]

Hello. I just saw your comment on the Help Desk page about images and I was wandering if you could help me with mine. The image I uploaded to Gossip Girl (season 4) will not display. Yesterday, somebody said it was a server error but it still won't work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Jayy008 (talk) 14:11, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I experimented a bit, and I found the problem. The infobox is apparently case sensitive; for the image to work, the "image" parameter needs to be lowercase, not uppercase. I've gone ahead and fixed it. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 19:48, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your rude attitude[edit]

Hello,

I would be very grateful if you could explain this discourteous conduct of yours. Now I cannot even remember what was all about! And you just used your magic wand and vanished the whole thing. You should not abuse the tools you are trusted with. YvetteY (talk) 17:44, 23 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

While I don't know anything about the situation, I would presume that the use of RevDelete would imply that there was something to do with WP:OUTING in the edit. Was there? SilverserenC 19:12, 23 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That's the point. Who knows what happened there? --YvetteY (talk) 20:05, 23 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hello. First things first, I am not the one who hid the edit from view; I have no such privilege to do so. However, I did report your edit to be deleted to the users who do have the ability. I do not recall exactly what your edit consisted of, but I do remember the reasoning as to why it was deleted. As Silver predicted, It was because your edit revealed possible personal information of another user. You can't tell what your edit was because you, or anybody else for that matter, are not supposed to; it's hidden for a reason, and that reason is to prevent people from seeing a user's undisclosed personal information. It is not an abuse of power by those who deleted the edit. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 23:41, 23 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I apologize then, Hamster. I know the dark nature of Oversight. Jimbo Wales himself has used it in the past. That's why I'm beggining to dislike this site. Thank God I never donated. Farewell. --YvetteY (talk) 12:50, 24 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Why, wouldn't you? Bots are far too under-appreciated and neglected. It's quite a shame. I mean, put yourself in the bot's shoes...or whatever robots wear on their feet. What do they wear? ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 23:29, 26 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Late reply, but thanks for the notification. I won't be participating this time around. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 00:38, 24 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I wanted to ask you about this page. It is showing up under Category:Candidates for speedy deletion by user, apparently because it contained User:SuperHamster/Templates/Layout/Body, which you recently asked to have deleted. Did you want to have this page deleted also? --RL0919 (talk) 14:00, 24 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Huh! Interesting how it does that. I did not want to have User:SuperHamster/Templates/ArchiveNote deleted, but it has been deleted since you left your message. That's fine, though - I just recreated it, so there's no need to restore it. Thanks and happy holidays, ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 18:19, 24 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for File:Santaluces Community High School Chiefs Logo.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Santaluces Community High School Chiefs Logo.png. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 08:05, 26 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Whoops, I seem to have forgotten to select a license.  Done. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 17:27, 26 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

In regards for changing the Nintendo 3DS image[edit]

...Why? I can understand in the reason for saying that it disregards the rules for adding copyright contact, onto a non-free website, but wasn't it clear that the other picture already shown also featured copyright contact; and same with all the other 10 billion pictures laying around Wikipedia?

In order for that image to be posted on its main Wikipedia page, was for...
1. An update of what was already "shown"
2. To feature an image with better quality

Now, I have no idea who posted that image, or where he/she got it from. But what differences did it make, with the one that's showing right now, and the one you removed from before? Please reply. CaptainMario16 (talk) 06:33, 21 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - I'm not sure what you mean when you say "copyright contact". I will try to clear up any confusion, though.
Here's the short answer: The updated image is owned and copyrighted by Nintendo, so we can't use it. The image I added to the article is freely licensed by the author, so we can use it.
Here's the long, detailed answer: By default, when somebody creates a work, that work is fully copyrighted by the author. In other words, the author owns it, and controls what people can and can't do with it. People cannot use fully copyrighted content willy-nilly without the author's permission. However, the author can always release their work under a less-restrictive license that removes some of the control that they have over their work. These less-restrictive licenses are known as "free licenses", and content that has been released under free licenses are known as "free content". On Wikipedia, our goal is to provide a specific type of free content, which is content that has been released under a free license by the author that enables anyone to use the content for almost any reason without having to ask for permission, as long as they attribute the author of the content and release any alteration of the content under the same license. That is why Wikipedia's articles and text are released under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported license, which enables anyone to do just that. In addition to the text, we also want to provide free images that allow people to use them in the same manner as our text. This means that, whenever it is possible, we should use images that are released under free licenses that enable people to use them as described above.
The picture of the updated 3DS that you describe is, alas, copyrighted and owned by Nintendo. It is not freely licensed to fit Wikipedia's needs. The image that I added to the article, however, has been released under a free license that fits Wikipedia's needs by its author, and as a result, we can and do use it. Yes, it may be a bad image, but that's basically the way it has to be until somebody creates a better one. Now, there are cases where finding or creating a free image is not possible. An example is a picture of Mario. Mario is a character copyrighted by Nintendo, so any image of Mario is automatically copyrighted by Nintendo. As a result, due to the fact that a free image of Mario will likely never be available, we use a fully copyrighted picture of Mario on his article under a claim of fair use. You can read more about that here. A picture of a 3DS, however, could always be freely licensed. All we need is somebody to get their hands on a 3DS and take a picture of it, and then release that picture under a free license.
Hope this makes sense. If you need further clarification, feel free to ask. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 21:12, 21 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I guess thats a pretty fair statment! All we have to do now is wait until the device has actually been released, for someone to post their photo of it! But still, I really doubt Nintendo will be up the balls in trying to get that picture removed from wikipedia!
I mean, they let fanboys make custom flash remakes of Super Mario Bros, with cutsom addons, and yet, Nintendo actually love it!
But still, I get what you're trying to say. "Rules are rules". So it was more then fine to take down that image from the Wikipedia page! ...specking of which, you might want to check out that page again! ;) CaptainMario16 (talk) 04:56, 22 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yea, it may be true that the chance that Nintendo (or any other company for that matter) would come after Wikipedia is not the biggest. That especially holds true since Wikipedia has fair use on its side, rendering any legal action rather pointless (but then again, you do get events like this). However, a just-as-big chunk of the reason why we don't allow for such images is because of Wikipedia's desire for free content, to supply readers with images and content that they can re-use to their hearts desire. But I'm glad that you understand that it is what it is. Thanks for the heads up regarding the article, by the way. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 05:31, 22 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Bacon WikiChallenge[edit]

Thanks for the welcome! As you say, yeah, I've read around a bit so had a general idea as to what I was doing. I do feel a bit guilty for shooting into second place in the WikiCup, when the other people have been working so hard for so long. I think I'll go for the  Devon flag if you don't mind. I used to live there and feel the flag needs to be shown off more.Worm 12:43, 27 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Don't feel bad, you did great work and deserve the points. Besides, when I was creating the points system, I tried to place most of the emphasis on increasing the quality of bacon-related articles through DYKs, good and featured articles, reliable sources, and prose expansion. As a result, working on article expansion is very rewarding.
I'll go ahead and add your flag. Thanks, ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 05:08, 28 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Conservapedia categories[edit]

cp is used as a comedic and entertainment source, so why do you remove it from those categories?--Tyronegay (talk) 20:32, 30 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You may find it funny, but its purpose is not to provide comedy - it's an encyclopedia written from a conservative Christian point of view. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 20:35, 30 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

so? third-party sources say it is used for that purpose.--Tyronegay (talk) 20:39, 30 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Such as...? Regardless, if the site is meant to be an non-humorous encyclopedia, then it doesn't belong in Category:Comedy websites or Category:Entertainment websites - those categories contain articles with subjects that have the purpose of providing comedy and/or entertainment. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 20:46, 30 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It would never have occurred to me that Conservapedia should be in Category:Comedy websites or Category:Entertainment websites because it is so horrifyingly unfunny. But (!), the official party line over there seems to be to embrace things like "comedy and satires concerning atheism and evolution" and there is a growing number of pages calling prominent atheists names like "obese" when they're probably not and captioning pictures of pigs with their names and things like "sooie!" Conservapedia seems to regard itself as a comedy and entertainment website in every sense. Nuttish (talk) 18:49, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Valid point, but in my view, Conservapedia is still far from belonging in Category:Comedy websites or Category:Entertainment websites - sure, Conservapedia may have some content that is meant to entertain, but that's not its primary purpose, as opposed to the articles that are already found in the aforementioned categories. Per your own criteria, our article on Wikipedia should also be in the aforementioned categories - we've got a whole category on Wikipedia humor, which includes essays, project pages, and more that provide humorous and sarcastic content. But that's not the primary purpose of Wikipedia, of course, so we don't place Wikipedia in those categories. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 19:44, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You think you've bested me? This isn't the last you'll hear of me, I can assure you! Ahahaha!!1!! (rides off into the distance) Nuttish (talk) 21:38, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Gentleman, do you honestly think the beast that you ride upon can support your weight? ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 22:00, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
In regards to the horse I rode in on the horse I rode in on is certainly a good Christian horse and eats peanut butter and Chuck Norris in regards to proper applied biology. Nuttish (talk) 01:09, 3 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, but what type of peanut butter? Everyone knows that creamy peanut butter is only eaten by those with a lack of machismo. Since you seem to have left this detail out, I can now conclude that you are trying to hide the fact that your horse does, indeed, eat creamy peanut, and not chunky peanut butter, as horses with machismo do. Thus, since your horse clearly lacks machismo, the only way your horse could support your weight is if he were obese as you are, which causes problems with male-to-female horse relationships. Please see Essay:Obese male horses and marriageability. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 02:26, 3 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

General Bacon[edit]

Hey Hamster, help me out here. I just wrote an article for the Bacon Cup, John M. Bacon but for the life of me, I can't figure out where to list it. I also want to nominate it for DYK--"...that General John M. Bacon and his men were reportedly massacred during the Battle of Sugar Point (1898)?" (or something like that)--but I don't know if I should list it already, or if we're waiting and putting them on hold, or what. Your help is appreciated! (And I know I can never, ever catch up with Cirt and Glane and all them, but at least a new article gets me listed, and I may not lose my membership!). Thanks, Drmies (talk) 19:54, 22 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Drmies, it's great to have you back in the Challenge. When you talk about listing the article, do you mean submitting the article for the Bacon WikiCup? If that's the case, you did all right submitting it at User:SuperHamster/Bacon WikiCup 2011/Submissions. I'll try to review and score it in a timely manner. As for the DYK, it is up to you whether or not you want to wait until March 1st for the debut. Right now, only one bacon-related DYK is set for March 1st; all the other bacon DYKs have already been launched on the main page. Either way is perfectly fine. As for membership, it's perfectly fine if you miss a challenge or two. It just means that there will be more bacon for the rest of us. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 21:54, 22 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I see now that there's a holding area. I'll submit, and ask for it to be kept there. It's old bacon anyway; it'll keep. oh, in regards to your chemical friend (in the section above), they're up to no good. I reverted one of their edits, and left them an NPA warning. Toodles! Drmies (talk) 22:21, 22 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sankeyclass[edit]

Even where it's obvious the user is a VOA, they are owed the courtesy of a warning, because sometimes they do stop (see the warnings in the green box at the top of the AIV page). The idea is to prevent damage to the encyclopedia first and foremost. If a vandal never edits again, it accomplishes that as easily as blocking them does, with the added bonus of letting them come back when they grow up without having to request unblock or open a new account. Daniel Case (talk) 22:14, 25 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reply. To be honest, though, I still think immediate blockage without warning would be the best solution in this case. I don't see why obvious VOAs that are actively vandalizing should have the courtesy of a warning. They already know that they are doing something unacceptable, and we ideally want to permanently stop then in their tracks as soon as possible if our first and foremost goal is to prevent damage. Warnings don't always accomplish that, and leave Wikipedia vulnerable when they don't. Even when warnings seem to have worked we can't be sure, because vandals can and do come back at later times. Blocks, however, don't leave you guessing if the user is done or not (unless they start socking it up). Blocking ensures quick security for both the immediate and future timeframes (at least from a particular account), and allows the focus of vandal patrol to be placed on other users, instead of having to babysit to make sure a vandal is done. As for the added bonus, I don't see how a former vandal being forced to make an unblock request or create a new account to positively edit is a particularly bad thing. If a blocked vandal would like to come back at a later date to positively contribute, then great - he or she can make an unblock request for his or herself and take responsibility for his or her previous actions. While we want it to be easy for new contributors to jump right in, we don't want it to be easy for vandalizers to edit, either.
But regardless, I'll try to leave at least one warning from now on (it's not like it's a huge deal for me not to). Besides, you're the one doing the blocking anyway :) ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 06:53, 26 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi SuperHamster. Because you participated in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of YouTube celebrities (4th nomination), your input is sought at Talk:List of YouTube personalities#RfC: The criteria for inclusion on List of YouTube personalities. Bacon Cup 2012[edit]

Morning! Are you planning to do another Bacon cup? I might be fiddling with some Bacon articles in early April, was wondering if you were planning to do another cup. WormTT 09:27, 9 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yea, I'm planning on the Bacon Challenge 2012 happening. It's nice to see that, after three years, editors are still participating in the Bacon Challenge. As long as editors remain interested and motivated, I see no reason to stop anytime soon.
Regarding the just-concluded Bacon Challenge, I will try to finish up the scoring and give everyone their awards this weekend. I haven't had much time to sit down and get to it this week, as it's been rather hectic with standardized testing going on. Once all of that's been taken care of, though, I plan to set up next year's Bacon Challenge during the last week of March, which is also my spring break - just in time for you to do your thing in the following month.
Anyway, thanks for your interest. We'll see if you can hold your rather large lead again this year ;) ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 21:58, 9 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Just glad to know it's carrying on :) As for the large lead - if I can do that in a month or so, imagine what I can do in a year. Bwhahaha! WormTT 22:04, 9 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

GOCE drive newsletter[edit]

The Guild of Copy Editors – May 2011 Backlog Elimination Drive

The Guild of Copy Editors invite you to participate in the May 2011 Backlog Elimination Drive, a month-long effort to reduce the backlog of articles that require copy-editing. The drive began on May 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and will end on May 31 at 23:59 (UTC). The goals of this backlog elimination drive are to eliminate as many articles as possible from the 2009 backlog and to reduce the overall backlog by 15%. ! NEW ! In an effort to encourage the final elimination of all 2009 articles, we will be tracking them on the leaderboard for this drive.

Awards and barnstars
A range of barnstars will be awarded to active participants. Some are exclusive to GOCE drives. More information on awards can be found on the main drive page.

We look forward to meeting you on the drive! Your GOCE coordinators: SMasters, Diannaa, Tea with toast, Chaosdruid, and Torchiest

Bacon WikiCup 2012[edit]

Curious if there will be a User:SuperHamster/Bacon WikiCup 2012 ?? -- Cirt (talk) 07:54, 6 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yep - I know I've said before that the Cup would have started several months ago, but as you can probably tell from my contributions list, I've taken a long break from heavy editing, and I've done this to focus more on school (ironically, I'm typing this at school when I should be studying). I plan on resuming normal editing when school is out, which is this Wednesday - I'll see about getting the Cup up and running a few days after. I've got most of the Cup made, it's just sitting in a document on my desktop.
On a sidenote, I'm thinking about hosting the Cup this year in the subspace of WP:BACON.
Thanks for your patience, and sorry for the delay. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 13:45, 6 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I think it'd be a great idea this year to have it in the subspace of WP:BACON!! ;) Glad you are doing well in other areas of your life, and take your time setting things up. Keep me posted, -- Cirt (talk) 19:20, 6 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Query: Can I nominate something to WP:FAC for the 2012 Bacon WikiCup — or do I have to wait to nom it until it is all set up and running first? -- Cirt (talk) 19:39, 6 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Eh, I think it should be fine if you go ahead and nom it now. It's not like the event is a week long and you'd have a major advantage by nominating something a few days before the event starts. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 20:04, 6 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, sounds good. -- Cirt (talk) 20:05, 6 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

GOCE drive invitation[edit]

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors

The latest GOCE backlog elimination drive is under way! It began on 1 July and so far 18 people have signed up to help us reduce the number of articles in need of copyediting.

This drive will give a 50% bonus for articles edited from the GOCE requests page. Although we have cleared the backlog of 2009 articles there are still 3,935 articles needing copyediting and any help, no matter how small, would be appreciated.

We are appealing to all GOCE members, and any other editors who wish to participate, to come and help us reduce the number of articles needing copyediting, as well as the backlog of requests. If you have not signed up yet, why not take a look at the current signatories and help us by adding your name and copyediting a few articles. Barnstars will be given to anyone who edits more than 4,000 words, with special awards for the top 5 in the categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", and "Number of articles of over 5,000 words".

Could you copyedit this article please? I chose you from the list of members for obvious reasons. I put it on the list of requests, so you can remove it from there if you want. I hope to nominate it for GA. Thank you in advance. Puffin Let's talk! 19:22, 9 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Haha, I'm actually not a huge fan of hamsters and probably don't like or know more about hamsters than any other guy, but I'm happy to take a look at the article. I quickly did some basic formatting, unified the language to British English (there was a mix of British and American English in the article), fixed a typo or two, adjusted some wording, and replaced all instances of Siberian hamster with Djungarian hamster. I also merged the two paragraphs in the lead into one paragraph, because I think it flows better, but feel free to adjust it as you see fit. I also slapped a citation tag on the list of possible colorations of the hamster - I think it could use some verification there.
Since I did it kind of quickly, I think the article can still be improved a bit more copy-editing wise, so I'll probably take a look at it again later, and hopefully someone else will too. Good luck with your nomination. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 01:47, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, and in the second-to-last sentence of the first paragraph in the Biology section, is 11/2 supposed to be 1/2? ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 01:51, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Gracious me, that wasn't my fault! Look at this diff I spent a while fixing the American English and British English mix after the peer review, and that person changed it back and done that 11/2 thing. Thank you for the copy edit. Also, thank you in advance for the one you are going to do next. Puffin Let's talk! 12:16, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, yeah, I knew you weren't the one who caused the errors :) In my message above, I was just stating the things that I fixed. As for the 11/2, I wasn't sure who did that, and I missed it when I originally looked at the edit you linked to. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 14:38, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, do you think it's ready for the nomination now? Puffin Let's talk! 18:22, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Eh...I'm honestly not in the best position to answer that. I've never worked with bringing an article up to GA status or participated in any GA nominations, so I recommend asking someone who has the experience, perhaps from this list of users willing to review articles. They will give you a better answer than I could. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 18:41, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Questionnaire[edit]

Hi there, I'm semi-randomly asking users if they would be interested in helping me with my research on Wikipedia. I am writing a dissertation on Wikipedia as part of my undergraduate course at the University of Cambridge. The results will almost certainly not be published to the public, and participants will be anonymous if requested. What I am asking is for you to complete a questionnaire with a number of general, subjective questions about your experiences working on Wikipedia, for example concerning Wikipedia's culture, your motivation in participating and so on. It should take 10-20 minutes. Much more information is available if you are interested. Please reply here or on my talk page. Thanks! I really appreciate any time you can give! Thedarkfourth (talk) 06:55, 30 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, I'd be interested =) ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 11:05, 30 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Awesome! If you could give me an email address or send me an email at johntdf@gmail.com then I will send you the questionnaire. Thanks! Thedarkfourth (talk) 00:54, 31 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
All right, I sent you an email. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 01:38, 31 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to help assess Wikipedia:WikiProject Gastropods[edit]

Hi. I am inviting members of some WikiProjects to take part in evaluating their projects in order to help the Wikimedia Foundation better understand such projects from the inside, to encourage reflection on best practices, and to compile a list of best practices as recommended by a number of projects. I am contacting you because you are listed as an active member of Wikipedia:WikiProject Gastropods. Having witnessed that project's work in the past in my volunteer capacity, I'd very much like to include it. I hope that you will have time and interest in participating. As much or as little as you would like to supply would be gratefully received. The assessment questions are posted at Wikipedia:WikiProject Gastropods/Self-assessment. I will myself steer clear of the page until after any discussion seems to have become dormant, at which point I will ask questions to make sure that I am developing a good overview of opinions. Thanks. --Maggie Dennis (WMF) (talk) 13:05, 7 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I'm actually inactive in WP Gastropods. I'll remove myself from the active participants list. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 21:51, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks SuperHamster, that was thoughtful of you to take your name off the list, makes my job easier. Best wishes, Invertzoo (talk) 22:55, 28 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Woo, progress! Thanks - I'll get to scoring them today. Just fyi I'm planning on sending a little reminder about the event to participants at the end of the year in order to get the challenge moving again (or maybe sooner...can't hurt). ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 13:40, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Images[edit]

Hi its me, long time no see! In the past year I have written 4 articles on video games, with 3 of which I now need your help. Can you please add a box art image to this game?:

Other then that, the article in my opinion is written well. I'm thanking you in advance.--Mishae (talk) 04:02, 24 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Oh wow, it's been forever, glad to see you again =) I added covers to the article. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 05:19, 24 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Can you also do the same for this one:
P.S. I tried to minimize my minor edits in the "view history" of SAS: Secure Tomorrow article, without providing a reason (the reason was: 1 minor edit + 1 more + ... = a whole list of minor edits). I was wondering if its O.K. to do it, or I violate some of your rules that way? I hope I didn't.--Mishae (talk) 03:51, 25 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have any rules that need to be followed, I'm just another Wikipedia editor, like you. But you're doing fine with you're edits =) You're free to make as many edits as you want. While it's nice and encouraged to leave edit summaries, it's not incredibly important for minor changes, since they are generally not controversial or important. If you wish to start leaving edit summaries, you can always leave the edit summary for minor edits as something brief, such as "fixing spelling", "linking", "bolding", etc.
Anyway, I'll get to uploading asap. If you ever want to try and do so on your own, I can help you out if you wish, it's a nice thing to know, especially when you're working with video game articles. Or you may keep on requesting me, that's fine too. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 04:25, 25 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
 Done,  Done, and  Done. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 05:07, 25 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Tell me how come you deleted system requirements and other important information from VG infobox of this article?: XIII Century (series) Don't worry, I am not accusing you, just wandering.--Mishae (talk) 06:15, 25 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, no problem. Because the article is on a video game series (not just a single video game), I replaced the video game infobox with the video game series infobox. Since the individual games in a series will likely not have the same requirements, there is no field for system requirements in the infobox for video game series. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 06:30, 25 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Strange. I got the system requirements from here: [1], and it also carries the same box art. Now what will you say about that? Now its a bit better, check it out!: XIII Century (series)--Mishae (talk) 07:05, 25 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
System requirements are not listed in the infoboxes for articles about video game series, only for individual video games. XIII Century (series) is an article about the entire series, so no system requirements are listed, as the article covers multiple video games, not just a single one. If separate articles were to be made for XIII Century: Death or Glory and XIII Century: Blood of Europe, then we would list the system requirements for each of the games in their own articles. As you can see here and here, each individual game has its own separate system requirements.
For example, take a look at the Roller Coaster Tycoon series of video games. The article on the entire Roller Coaster Tycoon series, RollerCoaster Tycoon (series), covers the series as a whole, and does not provide system requirements. Each of the articles for the individual games in the series, however, lists the system requirements for each individual game (RollerCoaster Tycoon, RollerCoaster Tycoon 2, and RollerCoaster Tycoon 3). ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 18:23, 25 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Can you check to make sure I wrote this article right, regarding copyright? DigitalMindSoft.

Thanks,

--Mishae (talk) 20:47, 25 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, no problem - regarding copyright, as long as you didn't copy and paste anything into the article, or copied and pasted something and just switched a few words around, you should be fine (which is what it looks like to me). ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 21:13, 25 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Phew! Thanks, you know, I was blocked for such thing on Russian Wikipedia. Unfortunatelly, they won't unblock me until the end of next year (6 months till I file a compaint to the Russian Wikipedia arbitrage, after which is minimum of 4 months till they unblock me, and after that they might give me a month in testing (in which I am forbidden to edit articles, due to the edits that they were not happy about, for an unknown to me reason). Then, if I will obey every single yap from them, in 6 months I will be completely free).--Mishae (talk) 21:33, 25 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Oh wow...that's intense. Well, good luck getting unblocked. As long as whatever you write is 100% your own work, you'll be fine. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 21:42, 25 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again! Yea, I think 2012 will be a bad year for Russian Wikipedia. Whithout me they will fall bellow Polish. Although, they don't care about my work, which is sad, considering how much I care about my work there! I just was changing for example, 2010 in film on in cinematography section, both of which work. But the second one takes less space in the Russian Wikipedia, so in my opinion the edit was justified. Unfortunatelly not in their opinion. They even accused me of destructive behavior, another reason for my blockade! I even came to suspect that maybe their user talkpages are wire tapped by KGB! =(

By the way, while looking through the companies infoboxes I found out that I can put a logo of a company in there, but I don't know how. Can you help:

You can find logos by typing the companies names in Google images, or you can try copying it from their official site (I hope I am not encouraging you to violate the copyright?).--Mishae (talk) 01:06, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Wikipedia policy on copyrighted images is a bit different than the policy on copyrighted text. While one should never copy copyrighted text from another person onto Wikipedia, there are exceptions for images. Things like company logos and game covers, while they are still copyrighted and owned by their respective owner, can be used on Wikipedia through fair use, since logos and game covers will never have a freely-licensed replacement. Essentially, Wikipedia will always use free text, and will always try its best to use free images, but when it comes to things like logos, covers, movie screenshots, and more, exceptions are made and copyrighted images are uploaded, as there is no other option for those types of things. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 02:16, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for explanation. Can you also check my edit here?:
Because I am afraid that people here might just like in Russian Wikipedia, block me for "pointless edits"!--Mishae (talk) 04:23, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Just quickly glancing over them, they look fine to me, just keep on chuggin'. You won't get blocked for anything, don't worry. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 02:33, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I was just worried, the reason is because I was blocked for deleting some comments from my talk page in Russian Wikipedia. Luckily, English Wikipedia is allowing it, but other countries are not. It have something to do with "respecting talk page guidelines", but some, and all countries take it to extreme. For example, I violated one day a copyright on Russian Wikipedia, (yes I did change couple of words around), but that didn't cut it. I did it excedently twice in a row. After that I recieved a warning, which I decided to delete as well. Unfortunately, I didn't knew that its against the Wikipedia guidelines of theirs to delete a warning or any comment unless its baseless, or not Wikipedia related, which occurs very rare. Ofcouse, people said that they need comments so that they can edit them. But, who needs from 17-30 comments on ones talk page, or even in an archive, for that matter? I suspect it have something to do with a Wikipedia founder who made such "scary rules", but I don't want to bad talk about him. After that I tried to delete some comments that were not warnings, and got banned for doing that too.--Mishae (talk) 05:03, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, come to think of it, maybe I should put "Spoiler" button in this article?":

They have it on a Ukranian one: [Call of Juarez]--Mishae (talk) 02:08, 29 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nope - the English Wikipedia doesn't include spoiler tags in articles. Check out WP:SPOILER. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 02:31, 29 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, read it.--Mishae (talk) 04:01, 29 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Question: What do you think about my humorous Wiki Rabbit article? Is it funny, or its a candidate for deletion? Its my first attempt on it, you know. If yes, can you add me an image of a rabbit to it, and maybe a user box of the same name. I believe alot of users would be willing in having a Wiki Rabbit as a pet, considering its diversity.--Mishae (talk) 01:35, 7 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Seems all right to me, creative idea. I'm not too interested right now in putting time into working on humor articles however, sorry :( If you find a picture of a bunny you want to add though (take a look at the Commons), let me know if you need help and I'll add it to the article. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 05:37, 7 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
This one will be great. If you don't have time for creation of user boxes or templates for humour articles, can you give me a link to someone who can? Another question, should I live it as WikiRabbit or should I rename it to WikiBunny? If renaming will be proposed, should I ask it on the Discussion Forum, because there might be users (mostly females), that would probably like Bunny more then Rabbit, since its cuter? I'm thanking you in advance.--Mishae (talk) 22:34, 7 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Done. I don't know anyone in particular who's interested in working on humor articles, sorry. But if you would like, this can be a great time to learn how to make user boxes and templates for yourself, it would be a nice thing to know. Check out this page for info on how to make one. I'd be happy to help you out with additional explaining if you need help. As for the naming, it's your call really, either one works... ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 01:25, 8 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, and thanks. So, I read the page on how to make a user box, here is my idea: User:Mishae:This user is a rabbit and: User:Mishae:This user wants to adopt a rabbit How do I make my boxes to show up? I also expanded on the WikiRabbit joke, and added some info on Wiki rabbits to Wiki Huntrers.--Mishae (talk) 02:37, 8 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well, first things first, subpages are separated with slashes, not colons - so your userboxes would be located at User:Mishae/This user is a rabbit and User:Mishae/This user wants to adopt a rabbit.
Anyway, what you essentially want to do is create each page, and paste the following code into each one:

Then simply replace "FILE.jpg" in the id field with the image one you want, and replace "DESCRIPTION" in the info field with the userbox text that you desire. Also fill in the colors you want in the border-c, id-c, and info-c fields. Here is a color chart you can use to find the colors you want and their code values.
This will produce a fairly simple infobox. Try that out and see how you do :) Let me know if you need more help. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 00:08, 9 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Done. But do check my work, because I read that some images that are copy protected, even if they use through fair use, can still be contriversial. Link is here.--Mishae (talk) 02:17, 9 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Awesome, everything seems fine. You're right about fair use images - because fair use images are still fully owned by their creators, they can only be used in encyclopedia articles, where they are necessary. Putting fair use images on userpages and userboxes is a no-no. But you used freely-licensed images, so it's all good. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 02:28, 9 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Even something like this? Because it says something about being partly owned, and unported.--Mishae (talk) 04:14, 9 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yep. Images on Wikipedia that are described as free are basically images that have been licensed so that they can be used for almost any purpose by anyone, including using them for personal profit. Free images on Wikipedia can still can have some restrictions though, such as requiring people to cite the author of the image when they use it on their own websites, books, etc. Because of these minor restrictions and requirements, such images are described as being "partly owned". The image you just linked to falls under that category. Anyone can use the image, alter it, and share it, but only as long as they attribute the author and share the work under an identical license. Free images on Wikipedia also refer to images that have been completely released for everyone to use, without any restrictions or requirements - these files are known as being in the public domain.
Now, any images hosted on Wikipedia that do not meet the requirements for being considered "free" are labelled as fair use images, and can only be used when absolutely needed (such as portraying a copyrighted video game character). These images are generally fully owned by the creator, who has not given up any rights or control on the image. Fair use can also apply to images that are still partly owned, but do not meet all the requirements for being considered free on Wikipedia, such as the right to use them for profit. Free images on Wikipedia need to be able to be used for monetary gain.
Fair use images will be clearly marked as fair use in their descriptions, so they are easy to spot. For example, take a look at one of the images I uploaded per your request, File:Digitalmindsoft logo.jpg. That is claimed under fair use, as Digitalmindsoft still fully owns the image.
Hope that helps. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 04:50, 9 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, you explained well. However, it would be still nice if you will do the images for me, considering my fear of excidental copyright violations. I never know when or if I will do something wrong, and I don't want to be a part of a scandal, that might arise on this version of Wikipedia as well, considering that it already happened to me on the Russian one, and I got blocked.--Mishae (talk) 06:15, 9 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Can you help me find a picture for this article, please?: Wikipedia:WikiGoat I'm thanking you in advance. Also, I would like to appologize for my goat-patrol, or goat-administrator reference, I hope no offence is taken? It ment to be humourous-educational rather than namecalling. How do you like my provocative anti-vandalism sign?: User:Mishae/WikiGoat--Mishae (talk) 19:37, 9 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry about messing up with images, if you pay attention and take a look at the Wikipedia pages on using images, you'll be perfectly fine. Even if you screw up, mistakes happen - it'll just be corrected and the lesson will be learned. No one starts out completely knowing how to use images on Wikipedia, one only learns through practice and time. I don't know what happened with you on the Russian Wikipedia, but I can't see that happening here, you're a careful editor. It'd make life easier in the long run for the both of us if you try it out for yourself.
Here are some pages you may try reading:
Give it a shot: choose an image from this list of goat images to add to the article. Let me know if you need help. Don't worry about distinguishing between free and fair use images - all the images in that link I gave you are free, as they are hosted on the Wikimedia Commons, which only accepts free images. If you would like, I can take a look at your contributions every so often and look at the images you add to articles, and I'll let you know if you mess something up. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 03:36, 11 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Done. What happened to me on the Russian Wikipedia is a beyond belief miss understanding. You see, at the beginning I wrote 4 articles all which were in violation of copyright. So, back then I didn't knew what I was doing was wrong, so I learned how not to it. Unfortunately, a year later I was caught doing same thing, I did however told them that I need help with it. Instead, they warned me by saying that "if I will see do it one more time you will be blocked." The next thing I did, was in their opinion to be unexceptible. I deleted the warning, considering that I read it. It turned that I am NOT ALLOWED to delete any comments from my user talk page, So I got a warning for it as well. Imedeately I asked them for the rules on Russian Wikipedia User Talk Pages, which they gave me. However, noi where it was mentioned that deleting any messages will result in a block, and for an unspecific amount of time, (which I learned after they blocked me). Further more, before being blocked, I recieved a visit from a Wikipedia patrol man, which provocated me into doing next: Angered by it, I sent an administrator a letter saying that (finding out that patrol man is Jewish, by learning that he is a participant in "Project Israel") "that I wish you and this K*** to die" and that "I will celebrate it". After sending it, I realized my grave mistake, and sent an apology imideatly. The response was: that "Wikipedia is not in need of your services, and never come here again" (Jewish guys were upset, boo-hoo-hoo.) What was werse, is that my block generated such unbelievable happiness among those Russian Jews. Comments were sent out on a Discussion Forum such as "thanks for blocking him" and "glad to see the blocking tag", which came from people that didn't even knew me. What was werse, is that upon writing them with explanation, I got critisized for breaking into Wikipedia, by being anonymous, (violating my block that way), and being called a Troll, which in their opinion is not considered to be a personal attack. In mine it was. Not to mention I am not the only one who is get blocked there. I told them that more than a half (60%) of Wikipedians lieve this site. On which they responded with saying "we have plenty of users, that are not an anti-semi, unlike you". Another thing that shocked me, is that its turns out to be perfectly O.K. for an administators and patrols on Russian Wikipedia to take control of new users, and try to get them in trouble, despite the rule "Don't bite the newbies" (surviving of the fittest). So, long story short, they didn't explain the rules to me well, I got blocked for anti-semi comments that I said out of frustration, and they were laughing at me after it. And then they are asking "why English Wkipedia have more articles?" The answer to it would be that its not only because English Wikipedia have more users, but it also because its much frendlier. People don't accuse me here of edits that they consider to be vandal. Yes, those edits that I made to articles like ÜberSoldier and others on English Wikipedia! I tried to do the same thing for the Russian one only by using actors like Eddie Murphy and others. I hope non of the things that mentioned here is considered to be offensive, or not going well with your talk page guidelines? If yes, don't sent me a warning or block me, just simply delete it. Thanks for taking time to understanding me. One more thing, you know a filling when you love your country, but the country you loove doesn't love you back? Thats exactly the filling I have about Russian Wikipedia. Despite it, I am still planning on returning. This time though, I will try to ignore the warnings, however, even ignoring them can cause me a block.--Mishae (talk) 20:46, 12 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Awesome job with the images. That's a really interesting story, glad you found some success here at the English Wikipedia. Looks like you've learned a lot since the incident on the Russian Wikipedia, so good luck getting back to editing there =) ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 02:38, 13 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding the part about ignoring the warnings, I'd advise you to at least take notice of them - don't delete them or anything, but try to follow them the best you can. I'm not sure how the system works at the Russian Wikipedia and how it is compared to the English Wikipedia, but if it's a fair place, then it's best to follow the advice of other users and try to remain calm and constructive when dealing with conflicts and disagreement. Even if users are rude and pushy, chances are they are just trying to help improve the wiki as you are just the same, even if it is a different approach. Above all is to keep a cool head by trying to understand where the other editors are coming from. May not solve all conflicts, but it will hopefully make it easier, and will help avoid incidents like the one you had with the negative comment. But good luck, I think you'll be fine. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 02:42, 13 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Another thing I forgot to mention is that the patrol man was a huge fan of Jimmy Wells. Sure, I have no issue with that, but not if a guy saying it like this: "I would also note that the sorts of people who deny the Holocaust are generally the sorts of people who ought to be blocked on sight from editing Wikipedia". Which he said numerous of times on the Russian Wikipedia Arbitrage Hearing. Sure, I did denyed it out of frustration. Later on I did mentioned to them that "if a Holocaust denyer is a good editor, then he needs to allow to edit. Considering the freedom of speech." Now, funny thing is that the Russians believe that he anonymously go to the Russian Wikipedia. That sounded to me like a KGB official spying on me. Now, I check the English Wikipedia, and he doesn't have a Russian log in, which means he doesn't know Russian. I would be shocked if Putin and Jimmy Wells are best friends on Wikipedia, (keep in mind, its a joke:)). Regarding your comment about different systems in different Wikipedias, true. Its very hard for me to understand it. See, Russians explained to me that different Wikipedias have different rules and traditions, but, they are still part of one Wikipedia family. About it being a fair place, I wont say that. You see, when the AK decided to have hearing about my issues, we have me, my clerk, and one defendent (which came later), against 2 users that were complaining about me editing Wikipedia wrong, an administrator who blocked me (luckily he changed his mind about me being anti-semi), the patrol man whom I insulted (because he came to my talk page and started critisizing me, like he is the administrator. And his reaction was not met well by me, considering that I don't like people, who come out of nowhere, and pretend like they are in charge), and 2 other guys that were nutral to the whole thing. Another user mentioned to me something after they blocked me, but as I tried to explain to him (in case if he will come in my defence), the accusation party just silenced him, saying: "don't feed the troll", which to me was a personal attack, and not an honest one. Ofcourse the administators ignored that, and I can't go and complain about it anonymously, because that will be a violation of my "parole" there. Another thing that is very different, and I didn't knew it back then: You see, Ukranian Wikipedia have this very fair rule which states: "if you get blocked, even for unspecived amount of time, you are still welcome to participate in the AK hearing. They will let you know, and its your choice if you want to answer the call or not." Nice, hmm? Now, with the Russian one is completely oposide, and a bit dictatorial, which I don't like: You need to file a compaint with a clerk, after that the AK will vote on it in 3 months (in Ukranian is less then 2 weeks!), following 3 more months of writing a rule, and then voting on that rule (during which, you as a user can't even lieve messages on your talk page, or edit articles anonymously). After it, they might give a month of not doing anything, (a test on how much do you follow directions. If you will edit anything during this time frame, you will not get unblocked). If you don't get unblocked, then you can file another report no later then of 6 months from the last filing, or last violation (edit, etc). Now tell me, is this in your opinion sounds like "dictatorial or a fashistic ruling"? Speaking of constructive, my edits were in my opinion constructive, but in theirs, nope. Again, if I spoke anything that in your rules would consider a rule breaker, like the sentence before the last, please delete it. I just don't want Jimmy to come here and tell me his idea on my "fashistic ruling" comment, and block me after it! O' and about me being a "careful editor", I am afraid I am not just careful, I am a "sheepish and paranoid editor", :( Thanks to the Russian Jews, that scared me to death. You know, its kind of like a Red Scare to me. Again, if I said anything bad, please delete it.--Mishae (talk) 03:48, 13 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't want to panic, but did my user page got vandalized?: 2 Plus, what are Miscellany, and why so many are nominated for deletion?: Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Archived debates/December 2011 I would love to hear from you on that, that might calm my nerves a bit.--Mishae (talk) 05:10, 13 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Mishae. Your userpage hasn't been vandalized, don't worry. Are you worried about how there is a tab at the top of your userpage telling you that are userpage is up for speedy deletion? Don't worry about that either, it confused me at first too, but I tracked the problem. I took a look at all your userboxes, and removed them until I was able to find the one that was causing the problem. Apparently this userbox on your userpage is up for deletion, and as a result, the speedy deletion tab appears at the top of your page. There's nothing to worry about, that's just an issue/bug with how the template works.
As for miscellany for deletion, that page is basically for discussing the deletion of any pages that are not articles, templates, files, categories, redirects, and stub types. So if I wanted to put, for example, a userpage or Wikiproject up for a deletion discussion, I would go to Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion to discuss it. It's a popular venue simply because there are a ton of pages that fall under miscellaneous pages, and many can be controversial (userpages can often be an area for debate, since users are always adding things that some may consider out of bounds). Hope that helps and clears things up. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 05:41, 13 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, that helped a lot, actually. If you want to, you can call me Misha (minus the e), I added the e due to the Wikipedia didn't allowed me to create a user name with less then 6 letters, and some people had already had a user name that I wanted. Regarding userboxes: Why are they nominated for deletion? KFC like KFC nothing to delete here (or nominate) in that case. Plus, it makes the creation of userboxes pointless, if a month or two after its creation, the speedy deletion is proposed. Shouldn't Wikipedia be more concerned about articles, rather then somebodys dumb template?:) Not to mention that, for example, Russian Wikipedia is in demand of more userboxes. Maybe it have something to do with "too much, is too much"?--Mishae (talk) 23:10, 13 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If you take a look at the deletion discussion for the userbox, the KFC userbox was put up for deletion for potentially being advertising, which is not allowed in userboxes. The deletion discussion just ended though, and the overwhelming result was to keep the template. Everyone agreed that is wasn't advertising.
Userpages and userboxes, just like articles, have their own rules, and rightfully so. Sure, articles are the most important part of Wikipedia, but userpages still need to be regulated to help keep Wikipedia clean. If, for example, advertising were allowed on userpages, userpages would be a mess, as there would be a ton of users whose userpages would be used just for advertised companies and products. There are some more reasons that userpages could be deleted, too - userpages could also be deleted for being vandalism, giving out personal information about other users (or too much about themselves, especially for children), very offensive material, etc. Sure, the time could perhaps be better spent working on articles, but userpages still need to be held to a certain standard, just like everything else on the site. How much time and effort should be spent regulating userpages and userboxes is debatable, but it needs to happen to some extent in the end :) ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 01:31, 14 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Agree, but the "children" thing put me in question. How old you should be to edit Wikipedia? Sure, Russian Wikipedia have 13-15 year old users, but the majority is in their 20's, and later. Not to mention that Jimmy Wales wanted to create a "chick site, with encyclopedic reference" first, as far as I read on the history of Wikipedia, and Jimmy Wales himself. Correct me if I am wrong, but that means that children are not allowed here. Don't mean to descriminate people by its age. Plus, I understand that userpages and userboxes have their own rules, but it frightened me at first (and probably am not the only one). Wandering if people every month get bored here? Sure Wikipedia have close to 4,000,000 articles, but it doesn't mean that they should focus now on every userpage or userbox, just out of boredom. However, its my opinion, not the call.--Mishae (talk) 00:27, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
There's no age requirement for editing Wikipedia. I started editing when I was 12 I think, and I'm still a minor now (17). When I mentioned how userpages can be deleted for minors giving out personal information, I'm talking about situations such as a 12 year old posting their phone number on Wikipedia, unaware of the potential dangers that could come from that. In those situations, it would be appropriate to delete the userpage to protect the minor from any potential abuse. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 00:36, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Don't want to argue, but how can a phone number be abusive? Its not a hot chick poster. Plus, how can a userpage be "vandalism"? Can you show me an example, please? Otherwise, I am not getting what you mean. By the way, I changed gameplay into plot for those articles, and I added and described the "gameplay":
A minor giving out his or her own phone number isn't abusive, it can lead to the abuse of the minor. With a phone number, online predators can potentially figure out the minor's name, and track down their address, which, while not likely, could still potentially lead to harassment, kidnapping, etc.
As for vandalism, I'm talking about userpages that serve as personal attacks, hoaxes and lies, etc. I can't really show you any examples, since, well, they'd be deleted. Here's an example of a userpage that got deleted a while ago for attacking a person or group. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 03:46, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The articles look great, by the way. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 03:48, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Could you explain me please about this blackout, and PIPA SOPA thing. I'm not getting it completely. For how long it will be?--Mishae (talk) 03:13, 18 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yea, sure, I'll give a quick and basic description. Here in the US, there are two proposed laws: PIPA and SOPA (read the articles for more detail). The goal of these laws is to stop online piracy by getting rid of and blocking the sources of piracy and copyright infringement. While combating piracy can be a good thing, SOPA and PIPA are poorly written and do a bad job of doing what they want to, as they basically limit the free internet we know today. PIPA and SOPA will give the government and court the ability to block websites that are accused of copyright infringements, which is major. It's internet censorship. The bills also gives immunity to any internet services that take action against such websites, giving an even greater motivation for more strict blocking of websites that host copyright infringements. One big problem is that basically any social network or community-driven site such as Facebook, Youtube, or Wikipedia could be in trouble, as those types of sites commonly host copyrighted material, even though they may strive not to. Copyright infringements on these sites are basically inevitable, since the sites are user-driven and there will always be people on those sites uploading illegal content.
Because of this, Wikipedia, along with a handful of other sites, are "blacking out", or shutting themselves off from use. They're doing this in protest of SOPA and PIPA in order to get word out to everyone about why these laws cannot pass, and to send a message to Congress that there is a lot of opposition to the bills. The blackout is only for a day, nothing huge, but huge enough to send a very strong message =) Hope that helps. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 03:45, 18 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia:SOPA_initiative/Take_action has some more nice information on SOPA and PIPA and why Wikipedia is doing what it's doing. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 03:48, 18 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, that helped a lot. The only question is: What are the changes to the bill, and where could I find that? Why can't they just focus on sites that actually "DO PROMOTE" piracy, like piratesbay.com, notoriously famous for their pirated video games? Or the like. Social networking sites like Facebook, Youtube, and Wikipedia, are not a part of pirated sites, we are followed by "free use", which means we are far away from being a pirate site. Another good idea would be: to legalize piracy as they did in some states with marijuana! Not to mention, why not legalize every drug. That way the people will stop making money out of it (it will become useless). Same thing with piracy. What do you think about my ideas?--Mishae (talk) 18:33, 19 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If you want more info, here's a pretty awesome video that also does a nice job explaining the bill in more depth.
And you're exactly right, they're approaching the problem the wrong way by trying to pass SOPA/PIPA, which is why Wikipedia blacked out in protest. As for legalizing piracy, you bring up a good point, like drugs, since both are always going to happen if someone wants to pirate and/or do drugs. Now I still don't agree with legalizing piracy like drugs, but I see what you're saying and you raise a valid point. I just feel that legalizing piracy would make it sound right, and would result in a rise, causing loss for the people who make games and content on the internet. They will need to be supported with money, and I'm afraid that legalizing piracy would potentially prevent that from happening to the degree that it should. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 19:45, 19 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I don't want to argue, but here is my another great statement: See, I buy video games which don't carry any type of DRM, except for certain disk check ones. Now, it doesn't mean that I am a pirate, I buy games for myself, (sometimes on sale, sometimes at full price (especially if its a Russian made game)). The thing is, is that I buy games to support a specific art of a specific nation (call me an extleme "Russian patriot", but thats what I do. Same thing goes with music that I buy. Another thing to point out, (call me unmodern if you want) but I NEVER download games or music (pirated or not). O.K, so maybe to be honest, I used to deal with pirated games in Russia, but thats a different story. You see, Russian economy in the 1990's was pretty much abysmal to say the least. So, the prices, instead of going down, would go up. Such example would be books. For example I go to a store in America, and a book for preschool level kids (like Golden books type) sells for 4 bucks. Now, in Russia same book would cost 100 (convert a dollar into a rubble ($1 = 27 rubbles)). It even went a little bit over. Another thing to point out, I am a stamp collector. So I track the cost through this. From 1995-1997 our reginal and international rate was from 1500 to 5000 Rubbles. Thats a HUGE price per mail. Not to mention, back then not a lot of people had computers (let a lone the Internet, which didn't became public until 1996. In my country even later, 1997, I think). Now, lets look at a price tag for US stamps in this 2-year time frame, it was 32 cents.

Speaking of games, I will sent you a link of Russian game price tags (look for a red tag):

P.S. The prices are in Rubbles (Russian руб.) Wanna know the price tag for the same games on PS3 (same price for XBOX 360 games)? Here:

P.S. I'm sorry if my comments are maybe baseless, if so, you cam delete them.--Mishae (talk) 04:06, 20 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Fascinating, thanks for the info =) Looking at the prices, the PC games are waaaay cheaper than here in the United States, while the console games are more (anywhere from 10-20 dollars more by the looks of it). Actually makes me jealous, since I'm a PC gamer...oh well =P ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 04:24, 20 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Guess what? I'm a PC gamer too, as you can tell by the game articles I write! Yeah, another thing to point out. On Amazon.com there is always an arguement going on about which DRM is better? Steam, Electronic Arts's Origin, Ubisoft's Yuplay, Solid Shield, or SecuROM, etc. So, the answer always ends up that ALL DRM IS BAD (condsidering that some games require online activation, or constant Internet connection, which is definite no-no in my book). Especially, some people point out that DRM on games don't stop pirates (it stops legitimate customers). There were some cases when the game wouldn't work simply because. Yes, just because, for no reason. One of my friends, I remember bought a game (Red Alert 3, to be precise), installed it with an activation, went to bed. Woked up next day, turned his computer... Guess what? The game is not loading! And he had proper CD key, a brand new computer (Windows XP, with NVidia GeForce 8800, (twice, whats the minimum system requirements for his game stated), and he payed 50 (yes, 50 US $!), only to find out that his game won't work! Now, am I agreeing with it? Yes, and no. I would like to know your opinion on it? So, long story short: "An honest customer would always buy a game (me included)" Not honest custumer wont even go to a store to buy it, why do it? He can go to piratesbay.com and downloaded it for free (I am not in suport of it). So, your take on it? Speaking of pirates: In my country we used to have 1990's joke (that was focused on a Jewish question), I hope you wont get offended by it: A man comes to work as a movie maker. He tells his boss: "well, I just got hired here, so I am wondering is it O.K. if my grandma is a pirate?" His boss answers: "Sure, pirates used to live in XV century." "Then another question, my grandpa is Jewish, is that O.K. too?" The boss answers "Yeah, come to think of it being that your grandpa Jewish, thats O.K. But that your grandma is a pirate, thats a different story." In other words he realized the meaning of the word "pirate".--Mishae (talk) 05:13, 20 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that the excessive security measures they use to stop pirates does way more harm than good, since it hurts the customers, but never stops the pirates. I'm a huge fan of Steam and and creator, Valve, though. I download all my games online from Steam whenever I can. From what I can tell, they do really care for their players and don't have any ridiculous security measures. The founder of Valve, Gabe Newell, is pretty spot on with his views on piracy:
"We think there is a fundamental misconception about piracy. Piracy is almost always a service problem and not a pricing problem," he said. "If a pirate offers a product anywhere in the world, 24 x 7, purchasable from the convenience of your personal computer, and the legal provider says the product is region-locked, will come to your country 3 months after the US release, and can only be purchased at a brick and mortar store, then the pirate's service is more valuable."
He's basically saying what you're saying: by trying to limit piracy, companies are also hurting their legitimate customers, ending up in more players pirating games. By trusting their customers, game companies could be doing a whole lot better. And it shows, with Steam being immensely successful right now. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 01:15, 21 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I never tried Steam, and probably never will due to the point that my friend got Half Life 2, and it took him 6 hours to install a gane! However, maybe it have something to do with his Internet Explorer is 6 not 8, or that Half Life 2 is in general 1 huge game (graphics wise).--Mishae (talk) 06:35, 21 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, yea, no doubt that downloading large games takes a long time (doesn't matter what browser he had, just his internet connection). Steam put the entire Grand Theft Auto series on sale a few months ago for 13 dollars and I snatched that, ended up taking an entire weekend to download. Just gotta be patient =) One of the brightsides of Steam and other online game distributors is that they sometimes have some really nice sales, as they're not selling the physical copies of the games. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 06:38, 21 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I buy all of my games on Amazon.com very cheap there. However, I only buy new games from there cheap, only when they serve a good amount of time on a "shelf" (i.e. reviews). So, first I read reviews, then I wait a year until the price will go down, and then I buy. Not to mention I don't buy games above 30.00 dollars price range, and there is a reason for it: First, I work only once a week (and get my paycheck every 2 weeks). Second, as far as game and price go, the game won't change in itself, (same thing goes for any entertainment thing, (TV, DVDs, etc))(i.e, its not like you are buying food). So, when my friend bought Red Alert 3, and then complained to me why it didn't work, I told him: "Don't spend 40-60 bucks on games, the price range wont change the gameplay or the graphics." On that, he bought Gothic series for 30.00 bucks, but then complained that only 1 game worked! From what I read, is that Gothic 3 was a horrible game overall, and Gothic 1 had control issues. So, lesson learned here: Always reseach a game before you buy (i.e, read reviews on Amazon.com and GameSpot), and buy them below 30 bucks per game. I had an example too: My friend bought me The Sims: Vacation (for my birthday in 2002), but only 6 months later I found out that the game had some bugs. One of which, altough not a game breaker, (but lets say, doesn't look pretty), i.e, holes in the roofs. So, there is no patch awailable... Wanna know my solution to it? I bought The Sims: Superstar, which fixed all of the bugs. I didn't really enjoyed the game though, but o' well, 30 bucks for a bug fix, hefty price. But, if you need it, you will buy it. By the way, what games (or genres) do you play?--Mishae (talk) 16:49, 21 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yea, actually, I do the same thing too =P Unless it's a big game that I know is going to be good and I can't wait to buy (such as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim), I'll usually just wait until games go on sale on Steam before getting them. I really like to play action role-playing games, especially open world ones. Right now I've just been playing Skyrim, haven't had much time for anything else due to school :/ Over the last few months I've also been playing Grand Theft Auto IV and Mass Effect. You? ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 17:56, 21 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I used to play a lot of RTS games, such as Age of Empires 1 and 2 (with the expansion packs), and Empire Earth (1, with an Expansion pack). My favorite RTS would have been: Theatre of War, Cuban Missile Crisis: The Aftermath, and Ancient Wars: Sparta. I also used to play The Sims and The Sims 2 (with 4 expansion packs for each, and 5 stuff packs for The Sims 2). I also have FIFA 2002, and NHL 2004 (which I don't play that much, because I have lots of other games and hobbies). As time went by, I went to college, but couldn't take it (due to my autism), and got diagnosed with OCD, because of my playful atitude toward college (i.e. I play The Sims, my mom do the work for me, costantly arguing with me). Then I started to buy RPGs and Adventure games. Most of my RPGs are either Diablo clones (like Depths of Peril. Infact its the only one I own, that is Diablo like), or turn-base/RPG (like Elven Legacy, Heroes of Might and Magic V and King's Bounty: The Armored Princess]]). From adventure games I have: Barrow Hill, Rhiannon: Curse of the Four Branches, Return to Mysterious Island, Murder in the Abbey, Nibiru: Age of Secrets (never finished it), RHEM 4: The Golden Fragments (wrote an article on it as well, but never finished the game), Syberia (1 and 2, loved both, can't wait for a third one to come out!), Outcry (loved it!). I also own Avencast: Rise of the Mage (never finished it), which is an adventure/RPG hybrid. Then I have some racing games: Rig'n'Roll, Demolition Champions, 18 Wheels of Steel: Extreme Trucker, Midnight Outlaw: 6 Hours to Sun Up, and Championsheep Rally (all 3 didn't even started yet). I also have RTS/RPG hybrid called: Hinterland: Orc Lords, and symulation game Tropico 3 (with an expansion pack). And last but not least, FPS: DOOM, and Hostage Rescue: Close-Quarters Combat. And games that I bought, but due to my low system requirements couldn't played: SAS: Secure Tomorrow (yes, I wrote the article on it as well), and ÜberSoldier 2. Now I play less, and do Wikipedia more. I even bought Chronicles of Mystery games to not only play them, but to write an article or 2 on it as well. Currently I am planning on buying Art of Murder series, and Edna and Harvey series, for the same reason. On Russian Wikipedia, I remember, some users yelled at me for saying that "Wikipedia is work for me". They taught that I was being payed for my articles, in reality I just donate my whole day to Wikipedia, in 4 languages.

P.S. Sorry if my list is huge. But, as you can see, I play A LOT of PC games!--Mishae (talk) 22:25, 21 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Haha, wow, that's pretty awesome. I used to play a lot of RTS games, mainly Age of Mythology, and then also Civilization IV. That's kinda died out though. I was thinking of getting Civilization V when it was on sale for the holidays, but I decided not too, already got enough on my plate. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 22:46, 21 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
My budy who owned Red Alert 3 also loated Age of Mythology, not me tough. Me, I like Age of Empires and Empire Arth (never played Age of Empires 3 or Empires: Dawn of the Modern World due to my my love for Empire Earth!) In my opinion, Empire Earh one beated every Age of Empires game, and its own sequels (never like Empire Earth 2 or 3 for that matter). By the way, I saw the PIPA/SOPA video, its the same one I saw! O, well, didn't learned anything new here. I know about the limitations, but what about the changes in the bill? The video wasn't about the bill changes!--Mishae (talk) 22:08, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
There are several versions of the bill, yes, each a bit different from the other, but overall similar in concept, and none worthy of being passed. The opposition to both bills is strong now however, thanks to the blackouts and the awareness generated. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 23:44, 23 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Say, how good are you with the articles on bugs?--Mishae (talk) 02:43, 24 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Eh, bugs would be just another article topic to me, I don't specialize or have ever worked on any bug articles before. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 03:31, 24 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry man, it turned out I can work alone on them, somebody already helped me.--Mishae (talk) 04:43, 27 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, gotcha =) ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 05:01, 27 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Can you please help me with deletion of this page from my user page? You see, when I started to create my user page back in late 2010 I had no idea how to do it, and now I am stuck with this. Plus, when I put {delete} template on the page, I am getting accused of vandalism, which I don't get how? Is putting the template on your own page considered to bve vandalism? Many thanks, if you will help me. Also, what are the new developments with SOPA/PIPA bills? They supposed to have new vote on January 24th, but what happened with it? I never heard anything in the news as of January 20.--Mishae (talk) 15:19, 29 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure what you need exactly. Mishae is already deleted, putting a deletion request on the page would simply be re-creating an already deleted article.
As for SOPA and PIPA, they have been put off until a "better solution" can be found. For now both bills are dead, but can be brought up again at any time. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 17:16, 29 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
What I need is somebody to delete, not only the page but to delete it from my user page. I don't know how it got there in the first place.--Mishae (talk) 22:51, 29 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Delete what exactly from your userpage? I'm not getting what it is you're trying to delete. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 22:58, 29 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Do you see red tag called Mishae, under a category Other Stuff of userboxes on my user page?--Mishae (talk) 03:37, 30 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, gotcha. I took a look at what was causing it, it was the second infobox. I looked at the coding for the infobox, for some reason it defaults to linking your username if a parameter called "hidden" isn't added, so I added that. It should be fine now. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 04:26, 30 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Sorry I couldn't answered earlied was busy with Belorussian, and Ukranian Wikipedias. Curently I am waiting for 4 games to arrive, I will write articles on them soon!--Mishae (talk) 23:57, 1 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, no problem =) Enjoy those games.
Could you verify this article for me? I took some sources from sites, but I don't know if I violated anything (I ment copyright). If so, can you help me to clean up (rewrite) the article? I'm thanking you in advance:
Heyyy, sorry for the delay in reply, I've been really busy with school and life in the last couple of days. I'll try to get to your request ASAP. Thanks. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 05:33, 14 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Can you be so kind, and get me a picture for this moth and beetles? I have provided links to the photos in my articles. Many thanks!:--Mishae (talk) 01:23, 14 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

However, one of the buglovers have checked it, and he can't do it, because the images of bugs, in his opinion are copyrighted. But, then I don't understand, copying a game or DVD box is legal (no copyright is being violated), while to post a picture of a specific type of animal, you need to have a permission? Can you please clean my mind a bit on it, I am confused. Thanks!--Mishae (talk) 19:53, 14 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'll see what I can find. The reason why we can't use copyrighted images of bugs as opposed to game covers is because it is possible to create a freely licensed image of a bug, but impossible to obtain a freely licensed image of a game cover. In other words, say we needed to find an image of a ladybug to add to the ladybug article. All someone would have to do is go out, find a lady bug, take a photo of it, and upload it online under a free license. Now, say I wanted to illustrate the article on the game World of Goo - the only possible way to accurately show our readers what the game looks like would be to use copyrighted images, since all game covers and screenshots are copyrighted to the game creators. There is no other option, so we apply fair use in order to use these copyrighted images. There are some exceptions to this, but that rarely happens. Basically, it comes down to this: if it is possible to get a freely licensed image of something, then a copyrighted image cannot be used. Hope that makes sense, ask me if you need any more clarification. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 20:38, 14 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
O.K, kind of got the point. The guy sent me article, which kind of explains it. But the article also states that you can't use DVD or CD covers, under "We can not except work from others" part. From what I can see, that includes game box too. Which draws me to another point: What do they mean that you can not use someone elses work of a CD or DVD cover, if all of the sites will carry the same cover? Speaking of beetles, come to think of it, maybe you have them in your photo file, since you are an animal lover. However, you are not an entomologist, as far as I know.--Mishae (talk) 00:59, 15 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The mission of the Wikimedia Commons is to provide free images, and only free images. As a result, game boxes and other copyrighted materials must be uploaded to the separate wikis. And no, sorry, I don't like animals to that extent ;P I might like animals, but not enough where I'd make a hobby of photographing them. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 03:19, 15 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry if I mention something about your animal hobby, please, don't take it the wrong way, but what about that photo of a goat that you have? Its sounds a bit misleading what you told me: "but not enough where I'd make a hobby of photographing them." Or the goat got into a camera by an excident? I actually could imagine it: You are taking a picture of a landscape, and then, suddenly a goat ends up at the front of your camera, licking it as it was grass. Then you clicked it by excident, and walla!:P If you wont get a joke, let me know. Maybe, you wanted to say that you don't like photographing beetles? If that so, I understand it, since I mentioned earlier you are not an entomologist, and neither am I. Question: can we upload bugs to that "seperate wiki"? Plus, what you mean by it? I know WikiSpecies, WikiImages, WikiCommons, and WikiMedia. Is there anything that I don't know (that I forgot to add)?--Mishae (talk) 21:18, 15 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Just because I took a picture of a goat doesn't mean it's my hobby ;) I was just at the zoo one day and snapped pictures of whatever animals I could. I don't explicitly go out with my camera though on safaris or anything, the animals I've photographed are from the times I've come across animals in my backyard or at parks while I had my camera on me.
When I say that images on the Wikimedia Commons can be used on "other wikis", I'm referring to all Wikimedia wikis, in all the languages. So yes, that includes all the Wikimedia wikis listed here, in all language editions. Free images should generally be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, as they can then be used by all Wikimedia wikis. Unfree images, however, should not be uploaded to the Commons. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 05:27, 16 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I would like an image for this articles: Aepus robinii. I found all the info on one site, and now I need your help with references. I don't want to have 3 links to one site! On a side note, I think I found a site where the image is not copyrighted. However, I might be wrong. Can you check if they are copyrighted or not? Thanks!--Mishae (talk) 21:15, 16 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I gave it a shot with the references, is this what you were aiming for? Alas, I couldn't find any pictures, sorry - there's actually a pretty low chance of finding free images of specific bugs such as these. The best bet would be to contact someone who has a picture and asking them if they would like to release their image under a free license. As for the images you found, those are not free. The author is selling high-resolution versions of those images on that site. If an image owner does not explicitly state and release his image under one of the acceptable free licenses for the Wikimedia Commons, we can't assume it's free. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 02:19, 17 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly! Thanks.

About images: I realized that there was no copyright mentioning (copyright 2011-2012. for example), or copyright logo for that matter. So, yeah, I assumed its free then. Alas I was wrong. So, what about this one? It says some rights are reserved. I have found another site, that from my knowledge, bears no copyright. Check it out! Alas, I am wrong again. Also, can you please varify the copyright of this article: Poecilocapsus lineatus, and adding refs to it, the same way you did to the previous article? Thanks. Could you also be so kind, and contact this guy for me?: His name is Jim Lindsey. He used to allow us to use some of his images in the past.--Mishae (talk) 16:52, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Both those images you linked to cannot be used. The first one, from Flickr, is freely licensed, but still does not permit people from using the image commercially (in other words, make money off of it). That is something that is needed for free images on Wikipedia, so we cannot use that. Remember, there are a variety of free licenses, but only certain ones can be accepted on Wikipedia. For your latter images, that's copyrighted too - it says so right on the pictures, but even if it didn't, we have to assume it is copyrighted.~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 20:10, 20 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
O.K. So, can you at least contact Jim Lindsey for me?! Because, as you mentioned, you need to ask the authors permission, and he used to give us permission in the past! Or at least give somebody who will be able to contact him.--Mishae (talk) 03:26, 21 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I sent him an email - in the meantime, are there any specific pictures you need from his collection, in case he doesn't want all his beetle photos to be freely license according to the Common's standards? ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 14:05, 22 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the images that I really need from his collection are: Neocrepidodera ferruginea, Chaetocnema hortensis, Crepidodera aurata, and Longitarsus ochroleucus. I hope I didn't asked too much?!--Mishae (talk) 22:07, 22 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Nah, not at all - we'll just have to see what Mr. Lindsey thinks of freely licensing his photos :) ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 01:12, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Another question (but its not article or image related): I got the Barnstar award just like you did, but for biology. I am wondering, I know that on Russian Wikipedia they put awards in the top left corner of the user page. Is it possible to do it here, or its just certain Wikipedias or certain awards that are allowed to be put on a user page, and if it is, how? Let me know if I sound confusing. P.S. I'm confused myself!:)--Mishae (talk) 02:14, 25 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You're free to put any barnstars you get on your userpage :) In the corner, top, bottom, where ever you want.
And just to let you know, Mr. Lindsey still hasn't replied to the email. It looks like he hasn't updated his website for several years, so there's a chance that the email he has on there is outdated. But we'll wait and see. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 03:06, 26 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Can you show me how to do it? About Mr. Lindsey: Maybe I will send you some images from flickr? Altough, I don't see e-mails or any contact info of any flickrian! Another question, I realized that in some Wiki projects you have Retired users. Is it O.K. for me or somebody else to delete them from a project? The thing is is that in project Video games for example, we have 2 users that are listed as active, but when you click on their user page it says that they are retired (apparently from Wikipedia in general). And it does take some space, which can be used by non retired user, like me. Perhaps, some users usually forget to delete their user page after they decided to retire. So, again, am I allowed to delete them if they are retired, or do I need to ask an administrator for it? Your feedback would be highly appreciated. Here is the examples:

Wiki project GameTheory:

To get your barnstar to the top of your userpage, you would have to use the Top icon template. Your code would look something like this:

That code will put your barnstar at the very upper-right of your userpage. Once hovered over with one's mouse, a description will pop up, displaying the barnstar's name, its description, and who it's from. If you need help modifying it, let me know.
As for the inactive users in the WikiProjects, I'd imagine that it would be all right to move any users who have not editing for at least several months to the inactive users list, if available. I wouldn't delete them, just move them. If I were you, I'd probably bring it up on the talk page of the respective WikiProjects, though, to see what users in each WikiProject think. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 00:48, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You know, I wish I could have posted all of them on the talk pages as you mentioned, but here is the thing: One user is in one project, another in another, third is completely somewhere else, etc... I want to sum them up and put then on ONE maine talk page, like administrators forum. However, maybe they would consider it to be junk, and my search went for nothing!

So, what about this guy?: User:WBOSITG He is not retired, but he had changed his user name with the page redirection on his user page, which actualy auto redirects me to this guy: User talk:Foxj Which makes no sense for his previous names to exist in the first place, since he uses only one account, and its the last one. I think I should go to an admin forum with this at least, what do you think, will it work? And about those guys: User:D.M.N. User:I Seek To Help & Repair! User:D.M.N. says he have quit writing articles, but he have not put retired template. Neither did this guy: User:I Seek To Help & Repair! What shoud I do about that. If I am not minding my own bussines here, I am sorry. But next year we might have more retired people, and then more after that, resulting into Retirepedia not Wikipedia!:( Here are the people that I found whos project identity is unknown: Another question: What should I do with people such as this on a Wikipedia project pages?: User:Ecritures--Mishae (talk) 01:21, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

As I said, what I recommend doing is moving any inactive users to the inactive members category of each WikiProject - and that is only my recommendation, I don't necessarily represent the consensus of Wikipedia users.
I did find an excellent venue for you to bring this up in and get ideas from other users, though: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Council. The WikiProject Council is a group of members dedicated to helping and structuring WikiProjects overall, so that would be the best place to go for any advice related to WikiProjects as a whole. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 03:07, 3 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know if you are on vacation or not still, but I would like to ask you a favor: What should I do if a user, not an administrator deletes info from talk pages? Examples are here: 1, 2, 3, and 4. Also, the user named Saint Johann insults my site that I want to show to other user calling it a Homo site, and even put it on blacklist as spam, altogh I don't see anything that is not O.K. there. So, I can't give you a link aside by saying that the site is called Traditio-ru.org, which a Russian site, identical to our Wikipedia. Can you also help me secure the talk pages of users Psychiatrick and Mistery Spectre from this user, please. As of recently, he have deleted the site from other users as well such as User:Wormantson, User:Messir, User:Ramir, and User:Goga312, without indication why it is spam.--Mishae (talk) 15:27, 7 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I unfortunately am having a hard time understanding what exactly is going on, since a lot of the conflict is written in Russian. All I can say is that the site is on the Wikimedia spam blacklist, and apparently for valid reasons, as stated here in Saint Johann's reply to your question. I really can't get involved since I don't know exactly what's going on, the history, etc. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 16:46, 7 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Can you at least tell him to stop deleting the messages on the users's talkpages? Or can I put a block on him? I don't want to be blocked for an edit warring, you know.--Mishae (talk) 19:05, 7 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you - like I said, I really can't intervene, as I don't know exactly what's going on. If your link is rightfully blacklisted and you are spamming to an external site, then there is at least a bit of a valid reason for Saint Johann's removal of your message. Likewise, there may not be, but I really don't know. If you haven't yet, I suggest kindly asking him on his talk page for an explanation. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 02:34, 12 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thats O.K. I talked with him on talk page. From what he explained to me that both sites were in some kind of "war". The Traditio users were accused of admin vote rigging on the Russian Wikipedia. Also, they created their site as an "attack page" on Russian Wikipedians. Now, all that was in 2007, and both sites are now calm, majority of attacks was removed, and no vote rigging have been reported ever since that year. The question is: If I now allowed to link the site here, why am I not allowed to mention its name even?--Mishae (talk) 18:09, 12 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Per what you say, I don't see anything wrong with mentioning the site to other users. It seems like there's a conflict of interest going on here. Have you managed to sort it out yet? If your comments are still being reverted, and they're that important, you may try to get some outside opinions. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 04:12, 15 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
What you mean by outside opinions? For example: I mention the site in this way: "I realized you have lots of blocks on RuWikipedia, in order to save your nerves, and the nerves of admins, would you like to join this site?" or just simply say, "do you want to join this project". I don't see anything wrong here, you? Here is the link to the comment that I wrote now in English. Now, watch how Saint Johann will revert it either today, or tomorrow. Like, am I really not allowed to live any messages on the talkpages? I thought we are not living in China?! The thing is, is that I afraid I might get blocked for three-reverts violation. Or the talkpages don't fall under that rule?--Mishae (talk) 15:25, 15 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
By outside opinion, I mean bringing it up for more Wikipedians to provide their input in a place such as Wikipedia:Requests for comment.
I looked more into your recent edits to talk pages, and I believe Johann does have some merit in reverting your messages on talk pages. Nothing is wrong with just mentioning the site, and if you happen to be talking to a user who you think would be interested in joining Traditio, then sure, it wouldn't be out of line to refer one or two people to the site this way - but if you start going around to multiple talk pages and "advertise" by trying to recruit a mass number of users to the site, that can be looked down upon and considered WP:SPAM. I recommend you hold off on trying to get multiple users to join Traditio by going to users who edit(ed) RuWikipedia on their talk page. Meanwhile, if you still have a conflict, then I recommend you get some more outside views, as I described above =) ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 03:07, 16 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I went to 5 people, doesn't make me a spammer does it? One of them declined, and I stopped bothering him. The other guy was a mistake (he already registered on that site. The other 3 didn't even have a chance to reply, because Johann will revert every edit I made. Plus, he accused me of agitating! I did ask him nicely numerous of times to show me the non invasive way of living a comment about a site, but he declined to comment on it. Now, I left a comment for user Messir (1 person), and I am waiting for his reply. Maybe I don't understand what considered to be spam, and whats not? And what is agitating and just a random comment?--Mishae (talk) 15:05, 16 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that's the thing - what some might consider spam might be considered all right to others. Just keep this in mind while posting: The main point of Wikipedia talk pages is to discuss and help improve Wikipedia. That's the spirit of talk pages. What you want to do with that phrase is up to you.
And just another tip: if it's an option, you can try emailing users you wish to discuss non-Wikipedia-related things with. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 23:23, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Another question: How often am I allowed to sent messages that are not Wikipedia related in order for it not be considered as spam? Another question, related to this: New Terms of use What do they mean by the "global ban"? What if I make a mistake, I don't want to be blocked for something I did without thinking in advance! I hope it wont end up as with the Russian Wikipedia, 2 strikes and you are out.--Mishae (talk) 20:27, 25 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

There's no set amount - like I said, the general guideline to follow is that discussions should be about improving Wikipedia. So ideally, the number of times you'd want to stray from the mission statement would be...zero. Just keep what you do on Wikipedia related to Wikipedia itself and you'll be fine ;)
As for the global ban, you can read more about those here. Basically, this will happen if a user is problematic and has been blocked on several wikis, specifically after being blocked indefinitely on at least two or more separate projects. Don't worry about it though, you've got nothing to worry about =) ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 01:37, 27 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe not, but I was blocked indefinitely on a Russian one. So, yeah, I have something to worry about. Another question: Why my userpages userboxes went on top while the flag and the articles moved down? They used to be on the same side.--Mishae (talk) 23:49, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Can youn add me a box art for this game?:--Mishae (talk) 14:52, 13 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wasn't planning on doing it again this year, but we can if you want. I'll send a message around to everyone asking them for their flags. Thanks for the suggestion, ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 01:24, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Oh jeez, that came up quickly. Unfortunately slipped my mind with all the stuff I've been distracted with recently, thanks for pointing it out. I meant to send out a notice a few weeks ago to promote last minute contributions, but I guess that's too late now....I'll get to closing it and sending out awards soon. Thanks again. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 03:10, 3 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
So this was all wrapped up? :( Oh well. Sorry I wasn't able to get to more bacon related contributions this time round. :) Is there a sign up for 2013 yet? I don't suppose there's an award for coming in 5th? :P ... Cheers, — Cirt (talk) 20:34, 31 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Heh, I wish I got to contribute more too....ah well. I suppose there's no reason to not do another round of the Bacon Challenge, as long as people stay interested =) I'll get going on passing out awards (you'll get another shiny medal), and setting up the next Challenge.
