Do you use IRC?

Hello Siva1979, do you use IRC? We would like to have a meeting on 7 April, Friday. Do come and the Singapore community will discuss topics relating to Singapore. I would like you to come and join us in the meeting. If you don't use IRC, feel free to ask me questions. :) --Terence Ong 09:18, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

My (HereToHelp’s) RfA

Thank you for supporting my RfA. I’m proud to inform you that it passed with 75 support to 1 oppose to 2 neutral. I promise to make some great edits in the future (with edit summaries!) and use these powers to do all that I can to help. After all, that’s what I’m here for! (You didn’t think I could send a thank you note without a bad joke, could I?) --HereToHelp 12:46, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

You recently voted to keep this article, however I discovered that a refined search (necessitated by the number of false positives otherwise) yields only 47 results, 46 of which are unique. — Apr. 2, '06 [17:36] <freakofnurxture|talk>

Thank you

Hello Siva1979, how are you? Thanks for your support in my RFA. The final vote count was (88/3/1), so I am now an administrator. I am very humbled by your vote and your kind comments and very grateful. Please let me know if at any stage you require assistance, or if you have comments on how I am doing as an administrator. Once again thank you and with kind regards Gryffindor 17:38, 2 April 2006 (UTC)

Thank you

Thank you for your vote of confidence in my recent request for bureaucratship. Even though it didn't pass, I greatly appreciate your support and hope I will continue to have your respect. Thank you! Flcelloguy (A note?) 22:53, 2 April 2006 (UTC)

AFD

Remeber the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Charlie Sheen and Alex Jones interviews? It reached nothing even remotly resembling consensus, but it was deleted anyway? Please join the debate regarding undeleting it. I view this as nothing more as the majority imposing their will on the minority, in a blatant violation of the spirit of wikipedia --Striver 22:03, 3 April 2006 (UTC)

Admin coaching

Hi! Thanks for signing up for Esperanza admin coaching, and thank you even more for being so patient. If you're still interested in the program, I've assigned two coaches for you: Jossi and Gflores. Please contact them so you can work out what exactly you want to do. Thanks for your time, and let me know if you have any questions! EWS23 | (Leave me a message!) 05:21, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Hey, so I guess I'll be your coach. To start off, maybe you can tell me and Jossi if there's anything in specific you're interested in learning or maybe you would just like a general overview of the duties of an administrator? Well, let us know. :) P.S. Manchester United rocks! GfloresTalk 21:07, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Meetup, issues related to SGpedians' notice board

Hi again, SGpedians' are scheduled to have a meetup on either June 22 or 23 with Angela who is a board member of Wikimedia Foundation in case you do not know as well as another one with Jimbo Wales around July 21 or 22. Its great if you can make it but its also alright if you can't make it. Also, do watch the notice board for updates on articles, AFDs etc. Do try to help with the Singapore Collaboration of the Fortnight if you wish. (Note: I will post the meeting chat log on the board for every "meeting" on IRC.) --Terence Ong 09:50, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #2

The Barnstar Brigade is a new program aimed at giving more very deserving yet unappreciated users barnstars. It will officially start on 2006-04-09, but signing up is encouraged before this date:
"Here in Wikipedia, there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go un-appreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go un-noticed. Sadly, these editors often leave the project. As Esperanzians, we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. A project the size of Wikipedia has thousands of editors, so there are plenty of people out there who deserve recognition, one just has to find them. The object of this program is not to flood editors with Barnstars, but to seek out people who deserve them, and make them feel appreciated."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Information
Welcome to the second issue of the new format Esperanza Newsletter - we hope you still like it! This week, it was delivered diligently by our new dogsbody. MiszaBot (run by Misza13): any execution complaints should go to him. Content comments should be directed at the Esperanza talkpage. Thanks!
  1. The next elections: Approval voting as before and, also as before, an previous leadership member can run. Please submit your name for voting in the relevant section of this page. Voting starts on 2006-04-23 and ends on 2006-04-30. There will be three places up for grabs as KnowledgeOfSelf is leaving Wikipedia. Please see the previously linked page for full details.
  2. The Code of Conduct is now ready for extensive discussion! Specific comments should go to the Code of Conduct talk page, discussion of having one at all should be directed to the main Esperanza talk page.
  3. The current process for accepting proposals for new programs has been deemed fine. All Advisory Council members and the Admin Gen are to endevour to be bold when viewing discussion. If they feel that consensus has been reached, they will act accordingly.
A plea from the editor...
The propsed programs page is terribly underused! Please leave any comments, good or bad, on the page, to help us determine the membership's thoughts on the ideas there.
Signed...

admin questions

Hey, sorry I haven't been around lately, I've been a bit busy (and it hasn't been too pleasant around here :().

Can you tell me more about the images you uploaded that were deleted? If they weren't used in any articles, then yes, they may be deleted after some time. You can only upload to Commons under an acceptable license, not if it's copyrighted (e.g. fair use images). If they're copyrighted and there's no fair use rationale (we can't use any picture that we want), then they may also be deleted. "Most images on the internet are copyrighted and are not appropriate for uploading to Wikipedia." But you should be bold and upload it even if you're not sure if it's ok or you can ask someone first. Let me know if you're still unclear. See also Wikipedia:Fair_use

Regarding your adminship, it's difficult to say. What contributions are you most proud of? What would you do as an admin? Do you feel you're knowledgeable in the policies and guidelines of WP? I see you have good use of edit summary, that's positive. 5,000+ edits is quite a lot, but they seem to be relatively minor edits. (Correct me if I'm wrong). It's good to see that you were involved in the 1911 encyclopedia project and have created many football related articles and that you're active in AFD. Some things that stick out from your edit tree.

  • Low number of mainspace talk edits
  • Low number of Wikipedia talk edits
  • Lack of diversity in mainspace edits
  • Difficult to tell your interaction with other members, since have a high number of welcomes! :)

A few things you can improve on:

  • some vandal fighting. there are various tools that can help (see WP:VANDAL or ask me)
  • more involvement in Wikipedia policies and discussion

Sorry to answer your question with even more questions. I think I'm being nitpicky, though since you asked me specifically. You're a good user and unlikely to abuse admin tools, and I'd probably vote for you. :) GfloresTalk 19:12, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

My RFA

Thanks for your vote.

Hi, this is Matt Yeager. I wanted to thank you for your vote on my request for adminship. The count was something like was 14/20/5 when I decided to withdraw the request. My decision was based on the fact that there are enough things wasting people's time on the Internet that doomed RFA's shouldn't be kept up for voters to have to think about. Regardless of the rationale behind your vote, I hope you will read this note for an extended note and discussion on what will happen before I make another try at adminship (I didn't want to clog up your userpage with drivel that you might not be interested in reading). Thank you very, very much for your vote and your time and consideration of my credentials--regardless of whether you voted support, nuetral, or oppose. Happy editing! Thanks, mate

Thanks for supporting me in my RfA. I really didn't think people appreciate my work here that much, but it's nice to see you do: my Request was closed with 66 supports and 4 opposes. I'll do my best not to turn your confidence down. If in any point in the future you get the feeling I'm doing something wrong, do not hesitate to drop me a line.

And, apart from this generic "thanks for the support" message, I'd like to say thank you for the congrations note :-) I'm really delighted to see strangers appreciate my work enough to congratulate me on my succesful RfA. Thanks, again! --Dijxtra 12:00, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

This is in regards to this edit. Please read WP:DATE and WP:CONTEXT. Thank you. Solitary year links don't add anything to the article and serve only to create more distracting blue link text. --Cyde Weys 20:48, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

Regarding People's Park, Berkeley

Hi Silva,

Noticed your comment regarding neutral point of view. Fixed a few of the more obvious things. This is a controversial topic, especially for Berkeley residents and those who created People's Park. Especially controversial for those whose friends were killed, blinded or injured in "Bloody Thursday."

Delete Definitely not-notable.

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Floriberta Jiménez Torres -> "Delete Definitely not-notable. --Siva1979Talk to me 19:43, 28 April 2006 (UTC)"

"I strongly believe that an online encyclopedia such as Wikipedia should include ALL the soccer clubs in the world. Smaller clubs such as Wembley F.C. should also be given attention in this mammoth work of information. No club should be excluded. I always had a vision that an encyclopedia would contain, however insignificant, all human knowlege and accomplishments. This WILL then be a true work of encyclopedic knowledge. Wikipedia comes close to this fascinating possibility.

I also hope that Wikipedia will one day contain ALL possible human knowledge and achievements. It is also hoped that this encyclopedia will have ALL the articles about every star and galaxy in the universe. This will make it POSSIBLE to reach 110 billion articles in the next few decades!

I will do my best to contribute articles which do not mention any soccer clubs. I have already contributed more than 400 new articles on football clubs. In the near future, I hope to contibute new articles on astronomy. It is also my desire to see Wikipedia being the MOST complete encyclopedia in this world. I plan to do my part to achieve this goal."

Sorry, but self-contradiction, fella'. --GTubio 12:48, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
