VG Chartz[edit]

Hi. With regard to your recent edits to Nintendo DS sales and Nintendo DS, VG Chartz is not considered a reliable source for Wikipedia. Consensus has been found that their figures are little better than educated guesses, that their methods are fairly tenuous and that their figures often do not agree with those from reliable sources. Hi. And do you believe Sony is a reliable source for their own products? This numbers (150 millions) has not been updated and is rounded up. It doesn't feel right to me. I believe this number doesn't really mean anything. In addition, it is said that Sony counts units produced, not units sold. If I remember well, Sony announced this in a letter to their investors. This is a good enough reason to not take it as a fact. I will work on that point, but I don't know if we can find reliable sources for this kind of thing. - Sigruhn (talk) 23:54, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I do (or at least, if they are not, then no-one is). First, Sony are the only possible people who can know how many units they have sold unless they have told someone else, since they are the only ones who have the data on how many have been shipped globally etc. Anything anyone says regarding the sales is either a) a quote from Sony, b) an estimate from some professional body (such as the NPD Group) or c) completely made up or a non-professional estimate (which is where VG Chartz falls). Also, if Sony did give out false numbers, they would be in trouble with the law, as it would be seen as artificially inflating their stock prices.

As a side note it was just good luck that I came across your reply. In future please either reply on the user's own talk page (in this case mine) or leave a {{talkback}} on their talk page to let them know that you have replied.
