Image copyright problem with Image:Stanley River.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Stanley River.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by STBotI. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 02:53, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

If it isn't too much to ask, could you possibly consider uploading you free/self made images to commons:, so people on other projects can use them? It makes things a lot easier for everyone. Cheers, dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 08:25, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
No, it makes perfect sense, that's fine. I think that was me who moved one of your other images...the best thing to do if you don't want the En copy deleted is to add {{NoCommons}} to it. The image is still available in your deleted contributions (for admins) and in your upload logs, and when I transfer to Commons I watchlist the images there, in case the are nominated for deletion or anything.
Sorry for the bother, and thanks for replying. Cheers, dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 10:35, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Algorhythmcdcover.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Algorhythmcdcover.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Callide Power Station, Queensland

  • Thanks for your reply. The AccessMyLibrary articles that I cited come with a free preview, and you only have to log in if you need to see the full text. I prefer to use references that are available for free over the Internet, but sometimes no such references are available and in those cases I list references that require payment or those that are available only in print (particularly in the case of historical subjects). This applies only to references; I do not include pay sites in external links.
  • Even if your city's library does not participate in AccessMyLibrary, it may make certain news indexes and databases available free of charge through its web site to anyone with a card from that library. Even if you are reluctant to use the information obtained that way as a reference, it can be useful as background. So please talk to your library about databases of newspaper and magazine articles that can be accessed either at the library or from your home free of charge.
  • Does the university from which you graduated provide free access to its library and the library's databases to its alumni? If so, then you have access to even more sources of information that can serve as references. --Eastmain (talk) 15:04, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

Toora Wind Farm

Hi, just letting you know about the 'move' option on the top of every page. It is best to use this is it keeps the history of who contributed to an article there, rather than just copy and pasting things across. It is a mistake you just do once - I did it once upon a time as well. ;-)

The page is sitting at Toora Wind Farm, Victoria (Australia) at the moment, it won't let me move it to Toora Wind Farm as it the page already existed. The others are all just redirects. Wongm (talk) 03:44, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Questions

My useful stuff page? I have no idea. Haven't used in years.

I keep my drafts in my user page because many of them would be completely useless until they're actually finished; my lists would be incomplete, and thus unreliable, and most of the articles would have tons of information about their early years and very little about their later years, and thus would look pretty damn strange to most people. I also don't tend to reference my longer articles until I've actually finished them, which poses a problem for putting them in articlespace first. For instance, I've actually finished my latest article, but without references it would be a bit of a BLP liability to put it in mainspace. Rebecca (talk) 03:01, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

Far North Sa

I have a real problem with considering the trans australian railway and eyre highway as having anything to do with the far north - and im not even a croweater - most local sa's call that the west and west coast area - so just to let you know im about to remove - it does not make sense - also the arbitrary usage of ceduna etc as a line determiner is not the same as the gotvt publications that i have come acrss - thanks for your version - however as i say im removing bits SatuSuro 01:26, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

Also - surely http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leeuwin_Current serves the purpose re the OCTF - and do you really believe wp oceans is sufficiently active? cheers SatuSuro 01:43, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

Oceans for me is a nightmare - I tried to battle some very weird definitions (akin to the almost defunct ruler of the world's great comment about canada and mexico and their border relations) regarding oceans (ie the pacific ocean somehow seeping through the indonesian archipelago almost to the inner rivers of sumatra (sic) ) and so I am fairly pessimistic (or the weirdest edit war about the southern oceans non existence) -and so on. will agree with you re the tirari - that was a great move . The gyre - if you have refs - great - but my personal problem of finding accessible and easily usable - good robust rs for the diamintina deep and trench - leave me hesitant to support at this stage - but hey the tirari went well _ so you never know SatuSuro 05:28, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

OK - have checked out the indian ocean gyre and hey yeah its a bloody great idea! its intriguing SatuSuro 13:56, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

100+ Waterfalls???

Hello, I saw your name on the list of participants for the wikiproject waterfalls. Currently I am working on an article here at wikipedia.org titled, "List of waterfalls in Hamilton, Ontario" and we have at least 100 here in town where I'm from. I would like to know if there are any other cities or towns from around the world that you know of that have more than 100 waterfalls like we have here in Hamilton? Thanks!  Nhl4hamilton | Chit-Chat  19:25, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

  • Hello, Thanks for the quick response back. 300 waterfalls at Milford Track is plenty. The thing I am trying to find out though is which city from around the globe, if there are any, has 100+ waterfalls like we do here in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. So far I've e-mailed a dozen waterfall enthusiasts and experts from around the world and no one has been able to give me an official answer to this. Thanks again for the quick response back.  Nhl4hamilton | Chit-Chat  18:56, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

I did think about whether "on" or "in" was the correct terminology. I guess my basic thinking when deciding on a name was that "on" referred to the geological feature of the Darling Downs and that "in" referred to the region based around the geological feature, although that is probably over-analysing it a bit. Some more consulation before creation may have been in order. My basic thought now is the common English phrasing should be used which going by the town articles appears to be "on"; "in" is only current used when followed by the word "region".

To change the name you will (unfortunately) need to list it at WP:CfD. It doesn't fit the speedy renaming criteria so it will need to be listed there for a full discussion. If you read my talk page you will see I don't have a high opinion of that process but that is all we have at present. I am not keen to list another change myself while I am still fighting in a lost cause about Victorian cricketers, but I would support any change that you list there.

Note that the regulars at CfD have an agenda of standardising category names across the board so you will need to address the argument as to why Darling Downs is an "on" and Riverina, for example is an "in". Establishing "on" as the predominant local use in the local press may help (or may not). If you decide to go ahead and list, I wish you all the best of luck. Cavill Avenue

I wouldn't oppose a new article being written under the topic, but the original article has nothing of use to Wikipedia, and was in fact flagged for multiple concerns by a fellow OTRS volunteer. Upon reading it I decided per IAR that no process was necessary to get rid of it. There is an entirely unsourced history section which may be useful, I've included it below.

Extended content

It was named after Jim Cavill, a hotelier who gave birth to tourism there, acquired twenty-five acres of land in an area known as Elston - the place we know now as Surfers Paradise. The location of Cavill Avenue used to be a farm owned by James Beattie. Beattie built a shingle-roomed cottage, a barn for his produce and a jetty on the river bank. Around him, farmers were just barely surviving on their farms or selections, growing crops such as maize and sugar cane. A German immigrant called Johann Meyer purchased Beattie's land in 1877. He developed a short-lived sugar plantation and mill on the property. Meyer quickly found as many would in the future - there was money to be made in providing accommodation and services to visitors and travelers. He built a private ferry service over the Nerang River as well as the Main Beach Hotel near the river bank in 1887. He financed his new ventures by selling at auction in Brisbane, The Main Beach Estate.

By 1888, a horse and coach service was operating from Southport three times a week. Johann Meyer faced financial ruin and after he died in 1901, the Main Beach Hotel licence lapsed. The town was without a hotel until Jim Cavill built the Surfers Paradise Hotel in 1925. As early as 1917, a Brisbane real estate company, Arthur Blackwood Ltd, offered for sale the 'Surfers Paradise Estate'. The auction was unsuccessful, partly because access to the area was still difficult. In 1925, at a relatively isolated spot near a long white surf beach, Jim Cavill opened his 16-bedroom hotel at the intersection of the South Coast Road and the old coach track which ran from Meyers Ferry to the beach. Around the hotel, the township came to life. Villagers provided refreshments and facilities for campers and holiday-makers. Cavill Avenue became a tourist destination.

Re: Cleanup?

The expand template was removed because it isn't clear what needs to be expanded. I suggest using the expand template in an empty section to make it clear that there is a request for that section to be written. If we were to place an expand template in a section that already has text, then nearly every article's sections would have expand templates. Same with the refimprove; the article already is already more well referenced than the grand majority of articles. Gary King (talk) 22:19, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Anyways, ultimately it is a matter of personal preference of when and where to use maintenance templates. If you feel that some or all of them should be re-added, please feel free to do so. When I edited that article, I was going through other articles and re-organizing them, which was my primary focus. Gary King (talk) 22:31, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Wrong Wollumbin

Hello Shiftchange,

Thank you for your reply.

Officially, the Australian Geoscience Placenames Registry shows Mt Warning is Mt Warning, and our Mountain is Wollumbin.

The Wikipedia site is false. When we try to correct the false information, messages state that the alterations are vandalism.

This is my families identity and the Ngarakwal peoples culture that has been turned into lies by a false Wiki page.

On wednesday, we addressed the board of the Australian Human Rights Commission and are lodging many complaints.

We hope that wikipedia is prepared to include our facts, and wish to alter this false site. (Wollumbinmountain (talk) 06:28, 10 May 2009 (UTC))

Hi Shiftchange, sorry about the confusion - yes, perhaps I could have explained it better. Just assumed everyone would have seen the inline citations. The article Geography of Queensland has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

It seems like everything in this article is covered in the Queensland article, I see no point in having a completely separate article for the geography

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. HaiyaTheWin (talk) 01:18, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
