Russell Scott

Severo,

I noticed that you deleted my name from the 7-Eleven Cycling Team Wikipedia page. You deleted the entry almost immediately after I corrected the wikipedia link to my name. The link was previously to a Russell Scott that was not me. I added the word "(Cyclist)" to the Russell Scott entry that was already there and had been there for a while.

I don't know who put my name there in the first place, but I decided that I would put a legitimate Wikipedia page link to my name as a cyclist that rode for 7-Eleven in 1985-1986.

I am planning to add a link that has my biography similar to Frankie Andreau's biography, but I am also planning to add a scanned in copy of the 7-Eleven Cycling Team Media guide that has a picture of me.

To verify my entry, you could contact members of the original 7-Eleven Team that rode in the 1986 Tour de France (which I did not ride). For example, Jim Ochowicz may be the best to verify my story, but Frankie Andreau could also verify.

I wrote a quick cycling autobiography that I was planning to have someone enter for me, but it sounds like you may be the person to do that.

Hi Russell, thanks for your contributions to Wikipedia! Correcting the link was good - usually we would write it like this: [[Russell Scott (cyclist)|Russell Scott]] so that the link just shows as Russell Scott, showing just Russell Scott but going to the correct page. I don't have so much knowledge of 1980s cyclists (bar the obvious ones) so after I saw your edit I Googled to try to find if it was someone real or not - although I'm sure yours was a good edit you can probably guess there are many instances of people just adding their own names when they haven't even touched a bike! This time, I couldn't find any references to you through Google so removed the entry. To warrant an article on Wikipedia, you would have needed to have competed in one fully professional race or have multiple references about you. Do you think you could help find these? They don't have to be online, often a newspaper cutting where we know where it has come from is enough. In 1986 while racing for 7-Eleven that year, I competed in at least the Tour of Texas, the Washington Trust Cycling Classic, a few races in Canada, and some others. I have been unable to get a readable scan of the 1986 Cycling Media Guide where I am pictured alongside Frankie Andreau as one of the amateurs on the team that year. I would claim to be "of note" because I was the first (and only, as far as I know) rider to be selected by Jim Ochowicz to race on the Senior team based on my performance riding for the Junior team the year before.

I would appreciate if you would undo the deletion of my name, and possible put my name a bit lower on the list of "notable" riders. I am not familiar with editing Wiki pages, but I think could add a biography if my name were placed back on the list of riders.

Sortability of results

I see that you have been busy for a long time with "preparing winners list for sortability". I don't know if you have any ideas how to do this, but I made a test example in User:EdgeNavidad/Vuelta test, and asked at Help talk:Sorting if they could help. --EdgeNavidad (talk) 11:35, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

I posted about this a while ago at the the WikiProject. Basically once all the names are put into the {{sortname}} template, it's a couple of quick changes at the central templates and they will magically be sortable. I have about 20 articles left to do. Take at a look at User:Severo/sandbox/templates/Template:Cycling past winner test. I will probably move onto the team rider lists after this, it will just be similar edits to sort on nationality, name and age for that one. SeveroTC 11:40, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
Ah, I found your wikiproject post now, didn't remember it. You propose there to get rid of {{Cycling past winner mid}}. Which is OK, I think. But maybe there is a different option, in which the split tables can still be used. If there is, I'll let you know, and then you can decide which is better. Category:World cycling championships

Hey, Severo... You commented earlier this week at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Speedy, that renaming this category to Category:UCI World Champions might not be a good idea because of clarity. I replied to your comment, but it received no further response. Was this a strong objection or just a comment, beacause the "admins" are unsure of what to do?

If you look at the category, it only contains sub-categories in the UCI xxx World Championships-format, except for the champions category (which also is up for renaming, as you know). The main article is named UCI World Championships, so why shouldn't the category have the same name? As I mentioned in my reply on the speedy-page, there are other sub-categories of Category:World championships that only uses their federation's abbreviation (FIBA, FIBT, FIFA, etc.) I'm willing to drop the nomination for the champions category for now, but will take them both to a full CFD, if you think it is necessary. Hope you will reconsider your POV, or if you still object please say so here, so I can remove the nominations from the speedy page and start a full CFD. =) Cheers, lil2mas (talk) 00:58, 8 May 2010 (UTC)

Basically, I'm just concerned that people will get to Category:World championships or Category:World sports champions and not know what "UCI" is. Once they get to Category:UCI World Championships/Category:World cycling championships they should know what they are, so I'm not worried about the sub-categories in the slightest. When I go to Category:World championships, I see the abbreviations but I don't know what they all mean (and I would say I have a broader sports knowledge than most people - certainly something that editing Wikipedia has given me!). I've been trying to think of some compromise but I'm not sure of one... maybe CfD is the way to go to get some other people's input as well? SeveroTC 13:39, 8 May 2010 (UTC)
I see your point on the clarity thing, but you only need one click into the category to check the main article, if you're uncertain about which sport the category covers.
I've also been thinking about a compromise, and the only one I've come up with is; Category:UCI World Cycling Championships, but is this a name UCI uses?

Thanks for the response! I think that because cycling is recognised as one sport, so I think it should be represented by just one sub-category at Category:World championships. As I've stated, I think it s best named without the UCI initials as it is a big jargonic (hence Category:World cycling championships), but I think Category:UCI World Championships is preferable to Category:UCI World Cycling Championships. The last one there is a bit of a construction which I think we should avoid. SeveroTC 21:56, 8 May 2010 (UTC)

But since you did not find a better compromise, and say you prefer Category:UCI World Championships over Category:UCI World Cycling Championships, could I process the speedy-nomination? There's another option I thought of for the Category:World cycling champions category: Category:Gold medalists at the UCI foo World Championships (plus silver and bronze categories). Either way we need to work on the categorisation there by discipline as I think it was created for road champions and as we both know there are a lot more championships than that! Medal template

When it comes to medal templates, I believe the emphasis should be on the sport, not the country. That is why I believe the sport the individual is competing for should come first. Then country, sports competition individual competed in, and finally medal(s).Philipmj24 (talk) 19:07, 27 May 2010 (UTC)

Tour of Slovenia

Notability - Cycling

I noticed that you contributed to the notability of cyclists in WP:NSPORT. One of the contributions I noticed was "Additional criteria for male road bicycle racing;" however, I had a notability issue with a female cyclist and there are no specifics for the female gender. My initial thought was to change the heading to be gender neutral, but I don't have enough in depth knowledge of the cycling events to know if those listed would include female road racing. It's specifically male road bicycle racing because the events in this discipline for men are quite different from pretty much all the other disciplines of UCI-sanctioned competitive cycling (such as track cycling or cyclo-cross) and female road bicycle racing. Basically in everything except road bicycle racing, the World Cup events are the highest level of regular racing, alongside the annual World Championships and the Olympics. In female road bicycle racing you can add the highest rated stage races (category 2.1 - of which there are nine races this year) to the world cup races and perhaps this should be reflected in NSPORT (at the moment a dominant stage racer who didn't podium at World Cup level wouldn't be assumed notable, which seems a bit odd). In men's racing, the events are much more important than the series. NSPORT could perhaps be improved to cover women's stage races and we should consider whether we can assume notability of women who compete on road world cup races. I guess you are referring to Liz Hatch, who I think has competed at that level (certainly in the Giro Donne, which is in the top level of stage races) but hasn't had any noteworthy results. Wikipedia:WikiProject Buckinghamshire

Hi, I have made a start at reactivating WikiProject Buckinghamshire after a short break. I am in the process of working on the front page at User:Roleplayer/Sandbox to make it more attractive and easier to navigate. My aim is to make the project a reference point for editors creating or working on Buckinghamshire-related articles.

A couple of days ago I moved anyone who hadn't edited the project in a while from the current members list to an inactive members list, and this includes you. If you are still interested in the project, or are still regularly updating Buckinghamshire articles then please move your name back to the current list (remembering to keep entries in alphabetic order). If you are no longer interested in this project, then you needn't do anything further.

Post-Tour Criteriums

Hi, I'm proposing for all of the cycling fans to create articles about Post-Tour Criteriums. That criteriums had great prizes and the cyclists get rich of them. But are they notable as separate races. Taken together they definitely are but I'm not sure as individuals... and the results are fairly meaningless as most of the races are fixed to a greater or lesser degree! SeveroTC 17:18, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Andy/Frank Schleck teams

You said that we don't put teams before 1/1, but Alberto Contador has his 2011 team name set. What I don't understand is, if we have the information (and a legit source for it), why is it bad to put the correct information in the info box, especially after the season is effectively over? The season effectively over? Only one Grand Tour, one Monument and one World Championships to go. The season doesn't start and end with the Tour de France...
Simply, the infobox is too blunt a tool to put in future probable teams. It needs explaining what is the situation i.e. that someone has signed with a squad. Putting a 2011 team in the infobox is WP:CRYSTAL: we don't know it will happen, we only know it is planned to happen. If you were referring to the Schlecks new team, we don't even know if it will happen. Sure, write in their articles what reliable sources already say but not in the infobox. If it's in Contador's article, it shouldn't be, and it's not a reason to copy it into any other article. SeveroTC 05:39, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

no jersey icons in infobox as per concensus

If this is a consensus, why are there jersey icons in the infoboxes of the most important cyclists? Stijn Devolder, Tom Boonen, Fabian Cancellara, Eddy Merckx. Is it because I added them to the infoboxes of lesser known riders? Take a look at WT:CYC#OK. That other riders infoboxes are against concensus as well is besides the point (it is better to have 1 'right' and 299 'wrong' than 300 'wrong'). SeveroTC 13:25, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
