Hyam Plutzik Wiki Page[edit]

Hello,

I work for the Plutzik Goldwasser Family Foundation and we control the copyrights to Hyam Plutzik's works. We would like for his wikipedia page to contain his full biography but are frustrated that our edits keep getting overwritten.

Could you please let me know what specifically the issue is with the biography here?

It was written by our literary Advisor, Ed Moran.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Best,

Review of page Jason van Wyk[edit]

Hello! I see you’ve contributed to a lot of EDM artists over the years. The page for Jason van Wyk, a Black Hole Recording artist, which I contribute to is under consideration for deletion, which I feel strongly is incorrect. He is a notable artist and I have added multiple notable sources to the article, yet I’m not receiving much support on keeping it. I was wondering if you could review it and leave your vote? Thanking you. Socrates 2 (talk) 13:09, 7 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Barrel racers[edit]

You were mentioned in Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Categories#Category:American barrel racers ("If you have issues, we can ask him to take a look, he would be a neutral party.") but not using a standard "ping" so you may not have been alerted. Do come and join the discussion. Thanks. PamD 08:30, 9 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Looking around rodeos (about which I know nothing), it looks as if Category:Female rodeo performers might be a useful addition, as there are people like Bonnie McCarroll who is in no category leading to a "Women" or "Female" category (Category:Cowgirl Hall of Fame inductees doesn't), and although some, but not all, of them are in Category:American female equestrians, they will be lost in there among the show jumpers etc. But I don't know anything about rodeo culture, and apparently you've done a lot of work on rodeo categories ("Ser Amantio di Nicolao has been over them many times"), so I'll now keep my head down! PamD 08:47, 9 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
And Tillie Baldwin is in Category:Women stunt performers but no other female category. PamD 08:58, 9 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Villages[edit]

Can't you remember how long it took to gradually overhaul the category system with settlements and use populated places by area rather than villages given how many tiny hamlets were called villages and how many towns were called villages? † Encyclopædius 19:53, 13 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Encyclopædius: It really doesn't bother me - the categories are receiving ample population, for one thing. Besides, something similar exists with Category:Unincorporated communities in Caroline County, Virginia and the like. It's not the worst thing in the world to sort them out by size. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 20:08, 13 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Category:People from X[edit]

Hi, I noticed your edit here. I thought these categories were meant for people born in X; is it also valid for people who lived in X? —capmo (talk) 00:34, 24 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Capmo: I don't see why not - provided someone lived somewhere for a substantial amount of time. "Ch'ella mi creda", excellent voice!! Who are your favourite male and female opera singers? † Encyclopædius 16:52, 25 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Encyclopædius: That's always such a difficult question - I have different favorites for different things. Generally speaking, Plácido Domingo (when he sings as a tenor) and Jonas Kaufmann are two that I can listen to in just about anything. Franco Corelli for Italian stuff, and Nicolai Gedda for French - I know of few singers as elegant as Gedda, except perhaps Alfredo Kraus. For women singers: I know of no one quite as extraordinary as Montserrat Caballé, in anything she did. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 18:08, 25 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent taste, I was just listening to a few of her performances from Bizet's Carmen and Gedda's "Je crois entendre encore". † Encyclopædius 09:52, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Gedda is definitely the best I've heard, outstanding!! 3:19 nails that high D with ease! † Encyclopædius 10:06, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Pseudonymous writers[edit]

Hi and how are you? IMO, at almost 1,500 names, Category:Pseudonymous writers is bloated. How difficult would it be to create and populate Category:18th-century pseudonymous writers, Category:19th-century pseudonymous writers, Category:20th-century pseudonymous writers, and Category:21st-century pseudonymous writers and if the answer is "not so difficult", would you have time/inclination to work on it at some point? Mind you, NO RUSH! P.S. Being honest, century subcating of Category:Pseudonymous women writers is what I'm really after as I'm fascinated by 19th-c pseudonymous women writers. --Rosiestep (talk) 21:49, 30 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Rosiestep: I'm doing well, thanks. Bit slow on the uptake, as you can see. :-) Back from vacation.
It wouldn't be difficult at all to create the categories you seek - simply a question of how many articles there would be in each of them. I can go ahead and start doing it now. For what it's worth, I have a suspicion that Category:Pseudonymous writers is vastly underutilized, so I have a feeling there may be many more lurking out here than any of us realize. :-)
I'll begin some recategorization shortly. Rudimentary recategorization shouldn't take too long.

Ser Amantio di Nicolao, so so so fast! Thank you. This is exactly what was needed. And I agree that it's a vastly underutilized main category. I've been working on that but still... Rosiestep (talk) 12:16, 31 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Rosiestep: I agree - mine wasn't as restful as I would have liked, but it was vastly necessary. And fun. :-) As for the category: happy to be of assistance. I, too, have been working on populating it, but it's going to take a lot of time and effort. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 15:40, 31 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Could you help me with getting a Wikipedia page set up for the Museum of Graffiti[edit]

Dear Steven,

My name is Cece and I work with the Museum of Graffiti.

I am writing to find out if you would be able to help me with getting a Wikipedia page set up for the Museum of Graffiti. I have included my press release on the Museum below to give you some background info. Also, the museum has been covered in multiple media outlets so there are plenty of citation resources. I tried to create the page myself, but was unable to do so, therefore, I really hope that you can help me or connect me with someone who can. Thank you in advance!

The Museum of Graffiti, is a contemporary art museum and the first institution of its kind to present the history of the global graffiti art movement. Located in the heart of Miami’s vibrant Wynwood neighborhood at 299 NW 25th Street, the Museum has become one of the most popular spots to visits by both locals and tourists since it opened its doors to the public on Dec 5, 2019, during Art Basel Miami Beach.

For some it is the largest and most democratic art movement the world has ever seen, for others it is unwanted visual pollution. But graffiti and street art now have a permanent claim on the art world: an entire museum dedicated to the genre.

The Museum is the brainchild of lead curator Alan Ket, a well-known graffiti artist, art collector, and historian and his business partner, Miami native and prominent attorney, Allison Freidin.

Centrally located in the epicenter of color and creativity, amongst the instagrammer’s paradise of Wynwood, the space is covered with vivid murals and is a major cultural hub. The museum encompasses a permanent exhibition, two feature exhibition galleries, a rotating site-specific immersive installation, over a dozen outdoor murals, and a gift shop all of which will invite collaboration and conversation.

Once ephemeral - scrawled on walls and subway trains, only to be dissolved away by the cleaning crews - graffiti has gone mainstream with a vengeance. To fully appreciate the current position of the movement it is essential to know and understand the work of the original graffiti artists, who started tagging in the New York subways in the early 1970s and early '80s.

The museum’s permanent exhibition features paintings, mixed media sculptures, and interactive installations by some of New York City’s earliest graffiti writers including Rammellzee, Riff170, Phase2, Tracy168, Blade, Noc167, 80’s legends including Sonic, Dondi White, Zephyr, Mare139, Lady Pink, Doze Green, Delta2 and Miami artists such as Abstrk, Crome, Raven, Verse, Rasterms, Jona Cerwinske. A comprehensive timeline illustrated with artwork, photos, video, and ephemera will provide a historical context for the work.

Education is a central component of the museum’s programming. The Museum of Graffiti is dedicated to being the go-to source for students, educators, and tourists on the evolving graffiti and street art movement.

“We hope visitors will learn how graffiti has transformed sleepy, industrial neighborhoods into world class destinations. It is time to celebrate the artists and their contributions to the art world and our communities,” said Allison Freidin.

“This is the most culturally significant art movement of the second half of the 20th century," Ket added. "This art is about raw energy, rebelliousness and authenticity, and we are excited to share its past, present, and future with the world. ”

The Museum of Graffiti gift shop features several limited-edition artist collaborations and a curated collection of toys, apparel, books, prints, accessories, and specialty items developed exclusively for the museum. Guests can stop by the museum shop’s denim bar and customize their new jean jacket with selection of artist made pins and patches before they leave. Other items on hand include exclusive limited edition resin spray cans by Stash 2, exclusive limited edition umbrellas by Ahol Sniffs Glue, Janky Series 2 Blind Boxes and limited edition Phase 2 and Blade skate decks.

Thank you in advance for any help you might be able to give. I hope to hear from you soon.

Warmest Regards, Cece

21st-century American women photographers[edit]

Howdy, long time no talk! I hope all is well with you. I wanted to leave a note to ask if you could create Category:20th-century American women photographers and Category:21st-century American women photographers? I'm terribly confused by categories, and I know that if you do it it will get populated in one of your automated runs. There are certainly many candidates who are now only listed as Category:20th-century American artists or Category:20th-century American photographers. --- Possibly 05:34, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Possibly: I can do it in a day or two, yes. Question, though: any particular reason not to use Category:20th-century women photographers, rather than break it down further by nationality? We don't break women painters and sculptors down by century and nationality. I'm not inherently opposed to such, but I'd want to make it a bit more consistent.
As to your question - I'm right as a Ribstone Pippin, as the poet said - you as well, I hope? :-) --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 06:06, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I am well, thanks! Regarding the above, I defer to your conclusion, whatever it might be. The difference perhaps between the 20thC-American-women-sculptor and the 20thC-American-women photographer is that the photographer is sometimes not an artist, for example when they are photojournalists. That said, 100% of the articles I would apply it to involve artists. I agree I would not want to categorize 20thC-American-women-performance artists/printmakers/media artists, but for some reason "20thC-American-women-photographers" makes sense to me. This is why I stay away from cats. --- Possibly 06:15, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Also, by way of examples, I just noticed that while "21st-century German photographers" exists, "21st-century Polish photographers" does not. --- Possibly 06:29, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Possibly: In my experience, that's usually because there aren't enough 21st-century Polish photographers with articles for anyone to have considered starting the category. (That said...something for me to poke around in in a day or so.)
I suppose my concern is, at some point do we balkanize our category tree too much? For instance: we have {{cl|20th-century American women writers)) but not Category:20th-century American women poets or Category:20th-century American women novelists...do we want those? Or do they start to become too specific?
Let me give this a chew-over over the next few days. What I will do in the meanwhile is make some categorization runs to pick up more articles in Category:20th-century women photographers and the like. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 07:45, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Possibly: You know what? We have Category:20th-century American women lawyers and Category:20th-century American women physicians, among others. I'm going to go ahead and create the categories. Won't be for a couple of days, though - maybe tomorrow, but more likely Thursday. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 04:59, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Ser Amantio di Nicolao: thanks very much. It is always very pleasant to collaborate with you! --- Possibly 05:08, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Possibly: I believe the technical term is "back atcha". :-) Thanks very much for the kind words. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 06:27, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Umauma[edit]

Hi If I am not wrong you created Umauma in 2008. sorry to tell you that there is no settlement or village with this name on Nonouti. many of the settlements you put on Nonouti atoll seem to be fictitious or inexistent. you do not even indicate on which island the place is. sorry to disturb you years after, but I have initiated AfD for most of your fictitious creation (with no Source at all). yours --Arorae (talk) 22:20, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • The places seem to be listed on GeoNames, so I don't understand the reason for the nominations. Eastmain (talkcontribs) 22:40, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Geonames lists place that are not settlements. @Eastmain: you seem to have the intent to oppose to the deletion of those names: but they do not exist on Nonouti, do not exist as a census places (small villages of only 15-20 people are listed, there are not villages of Nonouti and even the inhabitants of Nonouti have no idea about these places. And the creator did not even indicated that these places were on Nonouti atoll (not even a mention!). when you create a stub without any source and whithout any indication of the island, you must give an explanation: dozen of places have been created like that: it is a nonsense.--Arorae (talk) 18:56, 28 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Categorisation[edit]

Request if you can explain the intention and logic behind the removal of category category:Languages of India of many Indian languages. Ashwin Baindur (User:AshLin) (talk) 02:09, 27 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@AshLin: They are in subcategories of Category:Languages of India by state or union territory, so do not need to be in the parent. See here for more information. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 04:28, 27 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
While I understand the administrative need for sizes of categories, this particular scheme is problematic and in my opinion, definitely not a suitable course of action, because languages are not strictly state-related entities. For example, Marathi is spoken by native communities in Maharashtra, Goa, and Karnataka, with smaller populations in Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, amongst others. I am not referring here to domiciled or temporary migrant peoples, but with people with roots in those states. In addition, Konkani is spoken in Goa (majority and state official language), Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Kerala; by native communities of three religions; and in five scripts - Roman, Devanagari, Nastaliq, Tulu, and Kannada scripts.
Do you have any other alternatives than to deploy them in state-wise categories? The present situation is not tenable. Ashwin Baindur (User:AshLin) (talk) 04:49, 27 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@AshLin: Well...there are two options I see. One, given the current state of the categories: there's nothing precluding one article from being in multiple similar categories. So Marathi could be added to Category:Languages of Maharashtra, Category:Languages of Karnataka, etc. until all states are covered. The second would be to take the set of categories to WP:CFD for deletion and see what results. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 04:54, 27 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Let me ponder on this awhile. In the meantime, rather than leaving a task incomplete, you could complete this in the manner you see fit. Alternatively, you could pause categorisation with respect to the languages of India. if you wish. Ashwin Baindur (User:AshLin) (talk) 04:57, 27 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Can you explain why you put templates in my userspace. See User talk:FlightTime/Archive navigation and User talk:FlightTime/Archive top (page) (just to name a few. Just wanted to know your reason why you posted them. Cheers, - FlightTime (open channel) 17:47, 10 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@FlightTime: I did a run of userbox talkpage creation a few months ago, and there are a lot of userboxes hosted in userspace, so I hit those as well. These seem to have been caught up in the undertow. Sorry about that - I can delete them, no problem, if you wish. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 18:01, 11 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
No, it's fine. Sorry if I came off as "What you doing", I was curious as to the reason. I didn't know if that was something that's needed to be done or a user preference. I'll just remove them as needed . Cheers, - FlightTime (open channel) 18:34, 11 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@FlightTime: No need to apologize. Etiquette usually dictates not creating talkpages for user-space, for what it's worth, but I have found that to be slightly different in the case of user boxes. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 21:19, 11 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Josiah Gilbert Holland[edit]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josiah_Gilbert_Holland

External links: https://earlywithdrawal.net/tolton/1858/07/27/titcombs-letters-to-young-people-single-and-married

Reason:

I could not find a version of this book on gutenberg.org https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/author/2046

I found a scanned version on google with a horrible OCR sister file. Not a problem: there are many for-pay versions on amazon and other outlets.

Using opensource OCR, I re-read the book and corrected the remaining errors by hand. Naturally, I want to see some public benefit from my work, and the work of the OCR authors.

PS: I should be quite delighted to learn the exact publication date, if you know it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sittenkammer (talkcontribs) 01:12, 19 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

State government categories[edit]

Hi Ser Amantio di Nicolao, Are you able to answer this question? I'm just trying to get a response from somebody who knows the correct procedure on categories. —Lights and freedom (talk ~ contribs) 17:38, 19 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Lights and freedom: My practice in such circumstances is to look for similar categories and see how they're set up. For instance: Category:Government of Virginia and its subcategories. That help at all? --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 00:14, 20 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That mostly sounds good. But in the United States categories, the "Government" and "Politics" categories are two separate trees without overlap. Is that right? —Lights and freedom (talk ~ contribs) 01:34, 20 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Lights and freedom: Seems so. Any reason that such wouldn't be the case for Nigeria? Best answer there would be to disentangle the two, it seems to me. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 03:37, 20 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Why have you twice added Category:20th-century African-American people to the Trevor Engelson article? I'm fairly certain that he's not African American. (The article says that he's Jewish [for whatever that's worth] and gives no indication that he has any black ancestry.) Deor (talk) 20:00, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Deor: Apologies for that. He's in the category Category:Markle family, which is a subcat of Category:African-American people, which I had been using as a basis for my categorization run. I've since refined the list, but will check this evening to make sure the article hasn't snuck back in. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 20:04, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Category edits[edit]

Ser Amantio di Nicolao, a year ago, BrownHairedGirl and several others raised significant concerns about your category work using what they alleged to be an unauthorized bot. In response, you promised (among other things) that you would make an effort to stop using generic edit summaries like "Added category". Looking at your recent contribution history, it is clear that you have not fulfilled that promise. Could you comment on why? {{u|Sdkb}}talk 04:14, 5 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Sdkb: Because I've honestly never seen that it makes much difference - anyone who is interested in seeing the category edit in question can check the history of the article - and because I almost never receive any complaint about it. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 04:18, 5 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • I still view the generic edit summaries as disruptive, because they require other editors to examine the diff to find out what the edit actually did. It takes only a few seconds to create an AWB edit summary of the form populating [[:Category:Foo]]. An informative edit summary like that saves more than that time for every single occasion where an editor wants to view one of the edits by this unauthorised bot.
SADiN's failure to do this is a matter of course is sheer laziness, because it takes only a few seconds; and it is a clear breach of WP:EDITSUM. This has been raised with SADiN several times over the years, and his failure to keep the promise he made last year is contemptuous of other editors.
I thank @Sdkb for raising this again, but since SADiN's response has not changed from the passive aggression which he has displayed in the past when asked to change his ways, this probably won't be sorted without a long-overdue trip to WP:ANI to put a stop to the unauthorised bot and the sneakily vague edit summaries. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 19:34, 5 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@BrownHairedGirl: As I have said before, if you have concerns with my editing you may take them to WP:ANI. Furthermore: I am requesting that as of now you no longer post to my talk page. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 04:32, 6 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

An incident occured a few months ago when you copied pages from the Category:American male singer-songwriters and Category:American women singer-songwriters to the Category:American singer-songwriters, when Category:American singer-songwriters should have as few pages as possible. I appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, but please take time to make sure your edits are constructive and helpful. Otherwise, you may be blocked from editing. Thank you. 2001:569:55E1:8900:D2B:288B:F523:8CF5 (talk) 19:01, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

While your contributions are greatly appreciated, please take time to ensure that your edits are constructive, helpful, and useful, and this includes not overcategorizing pages by adding unnecessary categories. That being said, before putting a page into a specific category, try to find an appropriate and applicable subcategory for the page first. Thanks. 2001:569:55E1:8900:A00F:1F69:9B55:77EC (talk) 17:33, 31 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

There have been instances where you have copied certain pages from their non-diffusing subcategories into their parent categories when this isn't necessary. While this isn't a big issue, it does raise a few concerns, such as overcrowding. 2001:569:55E1:8900:8100:4C5F:C22C:DECC (talk) 05:09, 6 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Category question from WmArbaugh[edit]

Hello - thank you for all you do. You recently added "20th Century American Jews" to the George Fenneman page. I haven't seen any definite reference to his being Jewish. His grandfather was, his father was not. His mother was the minister of "The Art of Living Studio" which was non-sectarian. Do you have any reference for his religion? Thanks again - William WmArbaugh (talk) 13:49, 5 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@WmArbaugh: He is in the category Category:Jewish American male actors, which is how he got added into my list. I'm happy to take a deeper look this evening; I'm about to head out for a trip, but when I get to the hotel tonight I'll take a look. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 15:36, 5 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks - please let me know your thoughts after you look into the matter. I feel folks often make an assumption about surnames that end in "man". If that's all it takes, perhaps we need to list Richard Penniman as a Jewish entertainer. - William WmArbaugh (talk) 17:58, 5 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@WmArbaugh: Apologies - I've been on the road all day, and arrived here later than I anticipated. I've looked into the history of the article, and it appears that the original category in question - Category:American Jews - was added with this edit in 2014. At some point (I didn't bother to check when, as I don't think that's as germane) the article was moved to Category:Jewish American actors, from which it found its way into my list. As to why...well, I have my thoughts, but I don't like to speculate on the motives of other editors. And it seems like the editor who introduced the point hasn't been active here for over a year. Anyhow, I hope it's all sorted out now. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 04:40, 6 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Women in Business[edit]

I hope you are having a great vacation! I just came across something new, Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Business, founded in June of this year. Thanks! --Rosiestep (talk) 11:50, 8 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Rosiestep: Sure. I'll be on my way home Sunday, so sometime early in the week I'll have a look and see what I can do. Vacation's nice - I've found a couple of Women in Red, and a number of Women in Blue, in a variety of graveyards along the way. Perhaps more to come in a day or two. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 14:10, 8 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Rosiestep: OK, I'm back. Got one task ahead of this, but this will be my next, later this week sometime. I have another question for you[edit]

Good day! I have another question for you. For example: This is an article, then I linked a word that redirects here. Is that ok, or no need because it redirects here? I just want to read an admin personal answer for this, thank you! Ctrlwiki (talk) 02:32, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Ctrlwiki: I'm not sure what your question is, exactly - are you asking if you can use a link to a redirect in an article, rather than linking the target article? I don't see why you wouldn't. Either way, you don't really need to ask administrators questions like this; we have no more specialized knowledge than anyone else. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 19:44, 13 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, forget that question. My last question for you is, how to edit the whole article at once? Because I'm editing on a smartphone and what I'm doing is, I click the recent revision in the page history and click the (edit) button (the button looks like this) to edit the whole page at once. Is that ok? Because WP:EFAQ#HOWTOEDIT says click the "Edit this page", but there is no "Edit this page" on my device. Thank you! Ctrlwiki (talk) 06:11, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Ctrlwiki: The "edit" button in the mobile interface looks like a pencil for me - you should see one next to each section of the article. Click on that and you should be good to go. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 06:50, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it's look like a pencil, but that edit button is can only edit the top of the page, not the whole page. There is a separate button to edit the section parts of the articles, but what if I need to edit the whole page at once. How about the edit button with parentheses looks like -> (edit), can I use that to edit a whole article? Ctrlwiki (talk) 07:37, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Ctrlwiki: You can, yes. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 17:13, 16 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Ctrlwiki (talk) 23:54, 16 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Unverified/Uncited information about Ray Eberle's grandchildren on his Wikipedia page: Requesting assistance and/or corrections?[edit]

Hello! I notice which a recently-deleted Wikipedia user (Rayeberlefamily) has made some inaccurate edits to the article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ray_Eberle ...The date of this edit is displayed as https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Ray_Eberle&oldid=1035848025 or July 28th, 2021. Namely, he, she, or they made the following changes, which I shall quote here: Added grandchildren, fixed cause of death. The name of at least one of these grandchildren, Michael Eberle is not accurate, because ...1: There don't seem to be any sources or citations claiming him to be part of the Eberle family. 2: If by 'Michael Eberle', they refer to my Mom, Laurie's firstborn son, then his last name was never Eberle when he was born or at any time during or after his childhood. My Mom was married to her first husband, Mike DePilla during this time. Please pardon me if the spelling of his last name is incorrect. Thus, Michael's last name should not be listed as Eberle.

Furthermore, I am the second biological son of my aforementioned Mom, Ross Eberle. I would prefer if Michael's name be removed from the article, since he didn't consider himself to be related to the Eberle family. He ultimately chose to live with his father, while still a minor. This happened after my Mom divorced her husband, Mike. However, if Michael is going to be listed as one of Ray's grandchildren in this article, then I have the right to be listed as well, since my Mom's last name was Eberle at the time of my birth; she was not currently married. If anyone has any questions or comments in regards to this, feel free to contact me here on Wikipedia.

P.S. I have shown this article to my Mom, Laurie with its most recent edits, before sending this message. The purpose of this was to gain her opinion and permission to contact you, the editors on my grandfather's (Ray Eberle's) talk page. Any citations in regards to my requests for these changes can be requested from me at any time. SnarkyEberle (talk) 18:50, 19 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Resolved by removing all mention of children and grandchildren by name, as that is in accord with Wikipedia guidelines. David notMD (talk) 15:05, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Loved it. --Rosiestep (talk) 19:22, 19 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Rosiestep: The things you can do with a little editing. :-) No - it went well, I thought (apart from the singing - but as it was after two hours' talking I marvel that I had any voice left at all, as I told my choir director tonight.) Looking forward to hearing your contribution in the near term. :-) --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 06:35, 20 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Automating file talk creation/tagging?[edit]

Hi, it looks like you've been doing some rapid/high-volume creation of File talk pages with wikiproject banners based on category heuristics. e.g. file is in Category:Non-free biographical images -> create talk page with {{WikiProject Biography}}, file is in Category:Album covers -> create talk page with {{WikiProject Albums}}, etc. Is that accurate? Have you considered just filing a bot request for this task? I'm sure one of the Wikiproject tagging bots could handle it, and thus save you a lot of clicks. Colin M (talk) 05:00, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Colin M: I'll give it some thought for next time, but as for now the point's moot - I've finished the lot for the foreseeable future. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 07:53, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, but even if you don't have any interest in fully automating the process, I would like to request that, per WP:MEATBOT, before you do any more mass creation of file talk pages, you start a discussion to establish consensus for the task. There are two downsides that make me uncertain whether it's a net benefit: 1) Per Template:Talk header#Usage, it "changes the "discussion" tab at the top of the page from a "redlink" into a "bluelink", which may mislead people into thinking there is discussion." 2) It at least marginally complicates the process of exporting files to commons or doing WP:F8 deletions. Colin M (talk) 17:34, 5 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Colin M: You've given me a couple of things to think about here. Now, the trick is trying to remember before I decide to do something like this again...(which I realize sounds like a dodge, but I assure you it's not; my short- and medium-term memories are only getting worse the older I get.) --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 18:26, 7 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If you think you're likely to want to do more runs in the future, why not just start a discussion now? I'd even do it myself, but I wasn't entirely sure what the best venue would be, and was hoping you might know. Colin M (talk) 18:42, 7 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Colin M: Well...I'm not sure that I am that likely to want to do more in the future, honestly. We'll see; I'm personally of the opinion that I'd rather cross that bridge when I come to it. As for venue - I think I might know where to begin, but I'm not sure, and would want to do a bit of investigation first. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 18:49, 7 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, dearest Ser Amantio di Nicolao, how are you? Here the situation about Covid is uncertain: a day well, another day so and so...

Me and my family are well.

Please, do you know the way to put the song in the infobox of this page, as in Parole parole? I'm not able to do it; perhaps the song must be in Wikidata? Are you able to put it in the infobox?

Thanks a lot for your precious help and have a nice evening!

20th-century LGBT people[edit]

Hi. Why did you add Billy Dainty to Category:20th-century LGBT people? There is nothing in the article to support that category. DuncanHill (talk) 01:44, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@DuncanHill: It appears that Category:Pantomime dames is a subcategory of Category:Drag queens, which is how he was added to the list. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 01:45, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Well that seems bizarre. A drag queen could be a pantomime dame, but not all pantomime dames are drag queens. You certainly shouldn't be taking membership of the Panto dames category to be a signifier of sexuality. DuncanHill (talk) 01:51, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@DuncanHill: I'm rerunning the category list with Category:Pantomime dames excluded. I agree that it strikes me as an odd inclusion in the category to begin with, but as an American I have very little experience with pantomime in the first place, so I can only go with what I see before me. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 01:53, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've removed Pantomime dames from the Drag queen category, and put it into Category:Cross-dressing in theatre, which seems far more appropriate. DuncanHill (talk) 02:00, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@DuncanHill: I agree - I think it makes more sense there, too. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 02:02, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think you should add LGBT cats to articles unless the article mentions the sexual orientation and has a WP:RS. -- Ssilvers (talk) 06:33, 29 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Ssilvers: Is there one in particular you're looking at? I'm only adding the category to places where other LGBT cats already exist. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 07:54, 29 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've seen and removed several so far. You should check the actual article, not just whether someone already slipped in a bad cat. In a couple of cases, the cats seemed to be outing the subjects. -- Ssilvers (talk) 18:34, 29 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Ssilvers: In my experience, it's more, I think, that some of the cats were added in good faith to articles that supported them once; the relevant information was later removed, but the categories never were. Regardless: I'm going to set this aside for now, as I think it's become more complicated than a simple AWB run can handle. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 21:25, 29 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of the page Mila (moth)[edit]

Notice

The article Mila (moth) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Mila is a synonym for Mazuca. Searching up Mila will redirect to disambiguation, where you can find a link to the article for Mazuca. Turning this page into a redirect shouldn't be necessary as if you search up Mila (moth) using the search box, the first two results, other than this page, are the disambiguation for Mila and the page for the genus Mazuca.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

Also, sorry if I did something incorrectly in the deletion process or shouldn't have contacted you, I tend to stick to the article writing and don't really interact with other users often

Request for a new category for "The Lambs members", please?[edit]

Dear Ser Amantio di Nicolao,
Please would you consider helping me by creating the subject category? The article on The Lambs shows there already is a category for The Lambs presidents but there currently isn't one for its members. Since many of them have articles here at the Wiki, it seems to me that such a category would be beneficial to our readers. Thank you for your consideration.
With kind regards;
Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk)(become old-fashioned!) 17:25, 17 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Pdebee: Looks to me like it should be viable, sure. Give me a little while and I'll create something. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 17:31, 17 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to intrude when you are so busy, but please may I suggest a category title such as Category:Members of The Lambs Club? Thank you for pinging me when you’ve been able to create it, so that I can then propagate it through all the relevant articles myself. Many thanks once again for your help and cooperation.

Is there a reason you're categorising Jimmy Scott as Category:20th-century American women? He doesn't appear to be. Doctorhawkes (talk) 04:57, 20 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

21st-century American women[edit]

Hi. Just to note that you are adding this category to articles where the subject isn't American, such as this. There was an earlier one where the person was clearly British with no links to the US (sorry, I can't find the diff right now). Probably need to check how accurate your additions are, esp. as you are using AWB to add them by the truckload. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 18:52, 20 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Lugnuts: I spotted what happened with the first one (it had to do with Category:California Golden Bears women's swimmers) and re-ran PetScan to clean up the links. As for the other...I take your point (especially in sports, where Puerto Rico competes on an independent level), but I've always waffled a bit about whether or not to include Puerto Ricans under "American" categories. Still, I can certainly re-run PetScan again, as requested. Will have to be later today, as I have some chores to attend to shortly, but I'll get to it this evening. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 18:56, 20 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Rex Gallion[edit]

I was one of Rex Gallion’s students back in the 1970s. And know the fellow student that aquired strat 00001 from him. Rex was a great teacher. He worked in Vegas for some time and could really play. From Vegas, he moved with his brother Von to Santa Maria California where they invested in a trailer park development. He died while playing a wedding with his brother. I had a lesson scheduled that day and was informed of his death by his son. I remember crying at the dinner table that night. I loved the man. I’d been with him for about 4 years. I’m retired now and still play semi professional using the technics and theory he taught me. Von died just recently. 2600:1700:1934:3A60:401:E78B:9D8A:CF6C (talk) 15:59, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Category:60 Minutes correspondents[edit]

I'm asking for your assistance, you are obviously well versed with Categories on Wikipedia.

There are two distinct TV shows: 60 Minutes (a US production) and its sister 60 Minutes (Australian TV program).

However, Australian journalists are being placed in Category:60 Minutes correspondents. Eg Liam Bartlett and Paul Barry.

Your edit to Jennifer Byrne is an error.

What are the necessary steps to fix this problem? --Commander Keane (talk) 08:00, 22 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Commander Keane: I would suggest creating a parallel category, Category:60 Minutes (Australian TV program) correspondents, with title mirroring the title of the article on the Australian program. That should mitigate the lion's share of the problem. I can take care of it tomorrow (or later today, as the case may be), if you like. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 08:56, 22 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Categorize[edit]

@Ser Amantio di Nicolao Hi, I have seen you listing people in categories, and by your contributions, I can see that you have categorized people in alphabetical order. What is the secret?? From where do you get this list from? I mean from where do you get the names of all the people or rather women whom you have sorted in 21st American Women. Itcouldbepossible (talk) 03:13, 27 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Itcouldbepossible: I develop the list using Wikipedia:PetScan. Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser automatically alphabetizes any list I feed into it. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:01, 27 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Ser Amantio di Nicolao Ok thanks, but does this categorizing edits count. I mean are they given any relevance??? Then can I also create a new category and start adding people to it?? Waiting for your suggestion. Itcouldbepossible (talk) 06:23, 27 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Itcouldbepossible: I'm sorry, but "count" for what? Yes, you can make category edits yourself if you want to. Just ensure that you follow the proper rules and guidelines. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 17:34, 27 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Ser Amantio di Nicolao Thanks, but I created a category, but now it has been nominated itself for deletion. Don't know why??? Itcouldbepossible (talk) 13:36, 28 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Itcouldbepossible: You're receiving some good advice on your talkpage as to why this category is problematic. If you really want to create categories, I would spend a fair amount of time poking around looking at what categories exist rather than trying to create something out of whole cloth. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 18:13, 28 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Ser Amantio di Nicolao Ok but they are saying that we categorize people according to there nationality. But the category "indian births" is also according to nationality. So what is the problem in that? Itcouldbepossible (talk) 02:51, 29 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Itcouldbepossible: It doesn't match the categories we usually use. Look at the category tree under Category:Indian people, for instance. Also look at other category trees for other nationalities. That would be helpful before you try to create another category. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 02:56, 29 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Ser Amantio di Nicolao Ok thanks, I understand you, but could you possibly explain me the difference between indian people and indian births? Itcouldbepossible (talk) 03:00, 29 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Itcouldbepossible: You need to look deeper. Look at some of the articles in the categories under Category:People from Kerala by district, for instance, or Category:People from Assam by district, just as examples. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:32, 29 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Ser Amantio di Nicolao. I noticed that you've added the Category:21st-century American women to some Argentinian women. Claudia Albertario, Gimena Accardi and Sofia Achaval de Montaigu were first three names that I ran across alphabetically. I've reverted those but expect there are more. Not sure why this has occurred. Perhaps something if you're using a script? Would you mind reviewing your recent additions for that category and correcting any errors? Thanks CactusWriter (talk) 21:12, 28 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@CactusWriter: It's because they were also in the category Category:Hispanic and Latino American female models, which is not correct; that should only be used for people from the United States. Northern Virginia article[edit]

Thanks, Steven, for promoting Women in Red in the interesting article on Northern Virginia. We always appreciate your mentioning our wikiproject in your press coverage. It helps to promote our cause and encourage new participants. While I'm here, I would also like to thank you for tagging thousands of additions to WikiProject Women in Business in preparation for our January focus. Most of them seem useful and relevant but I've de-tagged those on fictitious characters. As several had reached GA status, it might have been misleading to reveal that business achievement for women was essentially a result of fame in soap operas. Your additions a few months ago to Women writers were also useful but those on Women in music brought in a mass of pop artists which are not too easy to accommodate. It might have been more productive to look for those associated with classical music (also a wikiproject). If you have any further plans along these lines, you could perhaps drop us a line on the WiR talk page where we might be able to provide some assistance. In any case, thanks for all your efforts in so many different directions.--Ipigott (talk) 20:27, 1 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Ipigott: I'm always happy to do talkpage tagging if asked - I do very little of it on my own accord, so just feel free to say what you need/want and I can look into it.
The article is quite nice, but I'd forgotten to check if it showed up online - it's actually been in print for a while. (I knew it was going to go up eventually, but the past few weeks have been...tiring, let's say.) Glad you enjoyed - I'll speak about WiR any chance I get. Whether it ends up in the article or not, of course, is a matter for others to decide, but I'll do what I can to ensure that the word gets out. :-) --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 03:11, 2 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nice picture of you in your apartment, too. On the wikiprojects, I realize that you worked on Women writers and Women in Business as a result of Rosiestep's suggestions. Both contribute to raising awareness of women's involvement and have now been largely checked and assessed. But if I am not mistaken, Women in music was your own idea. Not surprisingly, it incorporated over 17,000 additional articles, almost all of which remain to be checked. In particular, there are some 1,800 GA or higher which really deserve special attention but it looks to me as if about 95% of them are articles about pop songs rather than about the singers or songwriters behind them. They are no doubt included as they could be considered women's "works" but I don't think they contribute much to increased awareness. I just thought that if you had discussed your plans with WiR, we might have been able to make some recommendations. For example, I think many of us would have welcomed the inclusion of classical musicians, composers and conductors, and maybe also their works, but these are now swamped by all the pop.--Ipigott (talk) 07:18, 2 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Ipigott: Looking back over my records, I know I discussed Women in Music with a couple of editors at the time I was doing the tagging, but I don't remember what prompted it in the first place. Regardless: I'm happy to discuss tagging on the WiR project page, assuming it's not something I'm being asked specifically to do (which it usually is - I do very little on my own accord any more.) --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:56, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I would imagine that all articles within Category:Women in music should have such a talkpage template. If you have time/inclination to check -no rush!- that would be great... and if you could add the talkpage template to the articles which are within scope but missing the template, well, that would be awesome! P.S. Yes, nice article in Northern Virginia Magazine. --Rosiestep (talk) 18:25, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Rosiestep: Yes, I believe it was most categories in the tree under Category:Women in music, with a couple of rare outliers (Category:Soprano arias turned up in the tree, for instance, and I had to remove it.) I did tag quite a few songs, too, on the grounds that anything identified with a female performer counts under our rubric of "works by women". I also went for Category:Women librettists and Category:Female opera directors - not directly related, but I felt they are close enough that they belong as well. I can certainly look in the next few days and see what else turns up, but it will be a while. Glad you enjoyed the article; I thought it turned out nicely. Do you see the book on women silversmiths lurking at the top of the pile on the printer in the picture? --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 20:25, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

21st-century women[edit]

I thought that Category:21st-century Thai women (and those like it) were supposed to be container categories, and not contain individual people? It's marked as a non-diffusing subcategory of Category:21st-century Thai people, which itself is a container category for certain occupations, and by extension the same should also be the case for the women category. --Paul_012 (talk) 04:49, 9 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Paul 012: Interesting. I go by hatnotes, and very few of those categories have a hatnote indicating that they're meant to be container categories. And if you look at Category:Container categories, very few of them are listed there - most of the ones there are by nationality and occupation (i.e. Category:21st-century Thai people by occupation), rather than Category:21st-century Thai people. I need to do a bit more digging to disentangle it further - I do see there was a discussion on the issue about eleven years ago, but it looks like for one reason or another its results have not been put into practice for some time. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:41, 9 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Have you found further info? I assume Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2010 March 28#20th and 21st-century people by nationality is the old discussion you referred to, and my guess is that most categories were created (and populated) long after that with the editors being unaware of the prior discussion. This will probably need some centralised discussion to determine whether the old CfD result still holds consensus. Would a post at WT:Categorization of people suffice? (It'd be a nightmare to tag all applicable categories for CfD.) --Paul_012 (talk) 12:31, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Paul 012: Yes, that's the discussion to which I was referring. Your guess matches with what the evidence suggests to me. Look, for instance, at the history of Category:21st-century Afghan people, which is one of the categories listed in the discussion. It was created three years after the discussion and without the container-category hatnote, but that was added one minute later, only to be removed a little over a year later by another editor. Category:21st-century Afghan women was created in 2018, and does not appear to have ever been tagged as a container category.
I've been mulling over where to address this, and I'd like to find a way to get Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red involved, as my chief concern/interest has been the categories about women. Where else to bring it up I'd have to give a bit more thought. I want to consult with a couple of other editors before making any suggestions, and can't promise I'll be able to do so within the next couple of weeks ('tis the season, and all, and me with half my shopping left to do). I will hold off on any similar edits for now, until we can come to some consensus. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 23:47, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the explanation. There's no hurry, of course, and I'm sure you better equipped to sort this out, so I'll leave it for until you have time. --Paul_012 (talk) 07:03, 14 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Gerda Arendt: Nice. Funny: I've seen Schicchi twice live, but never either of the other two Trittico operas. (Paired once with Pagliacci, as I recall, and once with Francesca da Rimini of Rachmaninoff.)
Do I see that you had Die tote Stadt with Klaus Florian Vogt earlier this month? I just saw him in Die Meistersinger at the Met last month. Fascinating voice - I'd love to see what he can do with the Korngold. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 16:54, 14 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Same for me, I never saw one of the other two, for me it was paired with Die Kluge, a clever match: a clever man and a clever woman. Teresa Zylis-Gara was die Kluge, - not in her article (yet) because I seem the only witness. I added a review of the Korngold to Elena Guseva, nutshell: his voice too pure for the perverse character. I still liked it. There's another review of the same production (in English, on bachtrack) but when it premiered in 2016, so with Jonas Kaufmann and Marlis Petersen. I'd imagine that Petersen's voice was too pure for the character ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:04, 14 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Gerda Arendt: Interesting...we don't get much of Orff's opera on this side of the Atlantic. As for Kaufmann...I finally got the chance to hear him live, in recital, a couple of months ago. I would claw through a crowd to see his Paul on stage. Pity nobody in the US is inviting him to do it. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 17:12, 14 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It was his first thing as the new GMD in Zürich, and a review of praise (by FAZ?) ended simply: "So muss Verdi klingen". (Verdi has to sound like that.) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:03, 16 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Gerda Arendt: One of the last concerts I heard before everything shut down was Noseda pacing the NSO in the Mahler 5th. I'm very picky about my Mahler, and I can honestly say that it was among the most stunning performances I've ever heard. We're very privileged to have him, and I hope the relationship continues for a long time to come. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 17:11, 16 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I can imagine, and hope for you! - My most memorable Mahler V was with Andris Nelsons, his last concert with the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie. - Tomorrow we'll have a DYK about a young tenor who sang in the best concert I ever performed in, Monteverdi Vespers here, and he performed again in the last concert I sang so far (the next was planned for last Sunday, but cancelled). During dress rehearsal, when we finished the fugue of the Gloria, he turned around and clapped for the choir! -- forgot to sign but who else?
@Gerda Arendt: Ah, Nelsons. When WikiConference North America 2019 was held in Boston I tweaked my schedule expressly so I could go hear him and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. It was an odd program - some Betsy Jolas, Mitsuko Uchida playing the Ravel concerto, and the Shostakovich Tenth (I think? Maybe Twelfth.) But excellent played, of course. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 21:17, 16 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ours crossed when Kathleen Ferrier was made TFA with less than an hour notice, which he found awful. Precious with a low number, and a wonderful response. He let me not feel once that he was superior on many levels. In the end he left me his accumulatd sources for the Monteverdi Vespers, and I thought he wanted to focus on Antarctic expeditions. No. he died. I did what I could with the article - of my best concert ever. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:37, 17 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Template question[edit]

For the Template:Fire lookout towers in New York, for example Owls Head Mountain: Is there a way to make it bold in the template when its on the page Owls Head Mountain and Owls Head Mountain Forest Fire Observation Station, or can only one be represented in the template? Thanks -420Traveler (talk) 16:52, 20 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@420Traveler: So far as I know, the only way an article title can be bolded in the template is if the article itself is linked in the template. To wit: Owls Head Mountain Forest Fire Observation Station will show in bold because that's the title of the article as shown in the link.
Personally, I'm not sure I'd use the template on Owls Head Mountain at all given that it's not listed as a link in the first place, and given that there's already a separate article on the tower. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 17:01, 20 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I still don't get it. We should have her listed both as a singer and a woman singer? Makes no sense. Are we not quite sure she was a women? Was she a drag queen? The link you provided tells me nothing about this case. Are you doing a lot of that, categorizing a lot of singers both as a singer and as a man or a woman? --SergeWoodzing (talk) 22:43, 20 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@SergeWoodzing: The relevant line: Subcategories defined by gender, ethnicity, religion, and sexuality should almost always be non-diffusing subcategories. The Wikipedia:Categorization/Ethnicity, gender, religion and sexuality categorization guideline outlines the rules on these categories in more detail. Traditionally, yes, we have categorized people both as [X profession], or a subcategory thereof, and as [X gender][X profession]. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 22:46, 20 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A somewhat premature New Year's greeting[edit]

John Vanderlyn, Ariadne Asleep on the Island of Naxos (c.1812),
Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts
Best wishes for a safe, healthy and prosperous 2022.
Thank you for your contributions toward making Wikipedia a better and more accurate place.
BoringHistoryGuy (talk) 19:59, 26 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Moral lesson: John Vanderlyn was an American painter who studied in Paris, and his life-sized
Ariadne Asleep on the Island of Naxos was one of the first large nudes exhibited in the United States.
Peddling the poison as well as the cure, this overtly sensuous work was presented to the public as a
moral lesson on the consequences of lascivious behavior. Visible in the distance is the ship of
Princess Ariadne's secret lover, Theseus, for whom she has betrayed her people by helping him to
escape the Labyrinth and slay the Minotaur. Ariadne's bliss will come to an end when she awakens
from her post-coital reverie, only to discover that the faithless Theseus has sailed away without her.
@BoringHistoryGuy: Thanks very much. Ever visit the Senate House State Historic Site in New York? They have an excellent collection of Vanderlyn works and other memorabilia. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 01:30, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@BoringHistoryGuy: Vanderlyn fascinates me, as much about that period in American history fascinates me. Ever see the Versailles panorama at the Met Museum? I did finally find it once, after numerous attempts at searching deep within the bowels of the American wing. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 04:35, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I know the panorama, but only thru photos. I was way too much of a goody-two-shoes, but as a child remember being shocked by Ariadne. == BoringHistoryGuy (talk) 11:36, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@BoringHistoryGuy: But that's part of its charm, isn't it? It's so far beyond what one would expect from the place and the era. The panorama is worth checking out - the Met has it displayed very nicely.
Incidentally, if you ever go up that way, I highly recommend a visit to Weir Farm National Historic Site. Weir may not be to everyone's taste (though I'm partial to his work), but the site is beautifully arranged and very nicely presented. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 18:29, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You added the Category Military Personnel from Pennsylvania. I'm wondering how the state was determined in this case. He lived in Boston (and was attending BU Law School) at the time that he Joined the Navy. (Yes, he was born in Pennsylvania and ultimately went to college and taught in Pennsylvania). I probably need to copy more information about that time in his life from http://www.apoarchive.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/WINTER_2000.pdf page 9.

Frank R. Horton enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserve Force at New London, Connecticut. He reported for training on July 22, 1918, in Newport, Rhode Island, as a Radio Electrician. He transferred October 5, 1918, to the naval unit at Boston University for additional studies. While there he achieved Chief Boatswain's Mate rating on December l9, 1918. It should be noted that Germany signed the Armistice effectively ending the war on November 11, 1918, yet many tasks for the military, especially for the Navy, needed to be completed. With a commitment to the Navy for almost two more years Frank continued to improve himself taking and passing competitive exams to become an officer. In 1919 he entered Naval Officers-Material Training School, at Harvard University, in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

@Naraht: Pennsylvania is the only state I could find listed in the article, as place of birth. And he is categorized under "Category:People from [three different towns] in Pennsylvania", but under no other states. Besides, in my understanding it's always proper to categorize a person as being "from" the state of their birth, whatever other locales may come to mind. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 14:10, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I'll add the information about his time at BU Law School, though I agree it currently isn't mentioned. (You have to choose something, but it would be wierd if I became notable and they used "People from Florida" when I've lived there for 5 years of my Life and Maryland for almost 25 years).Naraht (talk) 16:39, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Naraht: My thinking is, I would mention where a person was born and any place they have made substantial contributions during their life. I've lived in the Virginia suburbs for thirty-plus years at this point, so I definitely describe myself as being from Virginia. But I was born in San Antonio, and I do often say, when asked, that I'm from there originally. Now...we lived in California for three years when I was a kid, but that was little more than a blip in the long run. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 18:01, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
And he certainly did the thing (being the primary founder of Alpha Phi Omega) that I personally think counts most as notable in Pennsylvania, at Lafayette College. BTW, I'm in Aspen Hill, MD about half way between Wheaton Plaza and downtown Rockville.Naraht (talk) 20:24, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Naraht: I'm almost directly opposite you on the other side of the Beltway - just south of Alexandria, near the GW Parkway. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 20:36, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
{{===Daingerfield Island===
Cool. BTW, since you are near Alexandria, I think there is probably enough out there on Daingerfield Island for it to have an article. While https://jay.typepad.com/william_jay/2016/02/daingerfield-island-much-more-than-meets-the-eye.html is a blog, if *half* of what is there can be verified, the article would be workable.Naraht (talk) 20:48, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Naraht: I'm surprised there isn't one already. I'm sure there must be plenty of sources; I seem to recall, back when I was a kid, going to the restaurant there and reading some of the history on the menu. John Smith was involved, as I recall...but then isn't he always, around here? --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 21:00, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Me too. Haven't been down there, but had actually been looking at the Wikipedia page for Potomac Yards Metro Station and surprised it wasn't linked. Yes, he is. I just have to keep reminding myself that Disney's Pocahontas is still more accurate than Disney's Hercules (which isn't saying much)Naraht (talk) 20:43, 30 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Naraht: As someone who went to college in the Historic Triangle, Pocahontas is...yeesh. Sorry.
As for Dangierfield Island, I pass it nearly every day to and from work. Haven't been out there in years, though - maybe I should rectify that when the weather turns. Cursory glance online indicates that there aren't any informational signs about it anywhere around the island, but I'd like to see that for myself. I could swear there were, years and years ago. Or maybe I learned the story from a restaurant menu? --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 20:58, 30 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Historic Triangle? (I presume that William & Mary is in the Triangle)... And by still more accurate, I'm giving Pocahontas a .2 on a scale from 1-10 and Hercules a .1.

@Naraht: Yep - Williamsburg, Yorktown, and Jamestown form the Triangle, and William and Mary is smack in the middle of Williamsburg.
I think I've seen similar signs to that one before - it's faint, but I think I recognize the color scheme and the picture of the child. I think it's something to do with nature in the vicinity - maybe wetlands, or wildflowers. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 21:43, 30 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Instagram[edit]

Is this Instagram account yours? Rlink2 (talk) 23:41, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Rlink2: Nope. Never had one, never wanted one. Thanks for the alert. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 23:42, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Comment: annnnd ... that fake Instagram page is pushing what it claims to be an app. The bitly link decodes to warn: "This link has been flagged as redirecting to malicious or spam content." So, um, yes, nice. Sorry! Cheers DBaK (talk) 01:11, 29 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@DisillusionedBitterAndKnackered: I'd noticed the link, but didn't have the heart to click on it earlier - since it was the end of the workday I was going to leave it until after dinner. Thanks for taking one for the team. :-) I'll go about seeing what I need to do to contact Instagram and have this taken down. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 02:31, 29 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Rlink2: and @DisillusionedBitterAndKnackered: Reported it. Let's hope it gets taken down quickly. Thanks to you both for the heads-up. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:41, 29 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You're very very welcome. For the record, I didn't place myself in too much danger (flutters eyelashes heroically) as Bitly has this quite nice feature that if you add a "+" at the end of the URL it shows you where it would take you but without actually going there. For example https://bit.ly/1sNZMwL is a direct link to our Bitly article but https://bit.ly/1sNZMwL+ shows you the Bitly preview page only. Cheers! DBaK (talk) 10:52, 29 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@DisillusionedBitterAndKnackered: Thanks for the tip - I'll bear it in mind for future. Anyhow, just waiting to hear from Instagram now. I'm sure I don't need to be holding my breath, but we'll see where it goes from here. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 17:19, 29 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

African-American categories for Linda Sarsour[edit]

Hello there Ser. You've added, at least a couple of times, categories like Category:20th-century African-American women to Linda Sarsour, whose family is Palestinian. I'm bringing this up in case you weren't aware it was an error; if you have sources that indicate she identifies as, or is commonly labeled as, African-American, please add them to the article. Thanks! Firefangledfeathers 22:06, 31 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Firefangledfeathers: Stupid oversight on my part, sorry. She's in Category:Black Lives Matter people, which is a subset of Category:21st-century African-American people. I keep forgetting to exclude the category when I run my category runs. It should be taken care of - I don't think I have any more work to do in the space in the near term. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 04:15, 1 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
