I noticed that you created the article Bebe Moore Campbell and tagged it with the {{substub}} template. This template recently failed a vote at WP:TFD and is scheduled for deletion. 1911 x 2004[edit]

Hi, thanks for getting involved in the 1911 and 2004 lists. However, I don't think it is necessary to remove the "blue links" manually. I have a script that can run through the "original" lists (e.g., Wikipedia:2004 Encyclopedia topics) and create the list of overlapping topics. I intend to run this from time to time (maybe once a week) and replace the lists on "my" pages.

Thus, it would be more effective if you'd remove the blue links from either (or all) of the "original" lists. But, AFAIK, this is also done by script... Thanks anyway, Magnus Manske 16:46, July 26, 2005 (UTC)

Search functions[edit]

Catholic and EB1911 links[edit]

I've noticed your adding macros for these. This should only be done if the Wikipedia article used them as a source. Many times they are simply just "further reading" or "external links" and not actual article references. It is also better to keep the direct link to the article for Catholic Encyclopedia articles so users can click on it and read it. Stbalbach 15:00, 26 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'm certainly not using a macro for that. As part of the Catholic encyclopedia project, I am checking against the content of the wiki and the article before I add the tag. I have looked over several hundred entries in wikipedia that are also covered by the Catholic encyclopedia and have added less than 10 tags.

I bring it up as I wrote most of Saint Wilgefortis and I didnt use CE as a source. I should probably add my source. Im sure there is overlap. But I do think it's a good idea to keep the direct link to the CE article online rather the remove it, its helpful to have. Stbalbach 16:23, 26 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Columbia pedia[edit]

When the columbia lists were uploaded a while ago it caused a storm of controversy, I know that logically it is no different to doing encarta or britannica, but I think we will get a lot of people saying "why is it ok now and not before?", and potentially could develop a new storm. On these grounds I would not like to see this addition until either 1) we have 100% rock solid proof it is ok, or 2) all the other lists are finished.

By the way, I personally think these lists are 100% ok, but while there are people who doubt this I think it is too risky. If in a few weeks this britannica guy has been around and not caused any trouble, I would consider that 100% proof that there is no legal problem. Re: Catholic encyclopedia[edit]

Hi Reflex, and thanks for the info on my talk page re your CE wikiproject. I think you may have sent it to the wrong person though... I'm sure I haven't added any info from the CE to Wikipedia. I have been disambiguating Vatican, however, and if I came across a CE stub, I may have added the appropriate template / category — I'm not sure, but that's all I can think of as an explanation!

I'm looking through the log, but it looks like Hemanshu may have moved listings from, for example, Wikipedia:WikiProject Missing encyclopedic articles/Hot/D3 to Wikipedia:WikiProject Missing encyclopedic articles/Hot/D3/Dia-Dif. Rajput talkpage[edit]

Hi Reflex, I'd like to draw your attention to this page. We are constantly having problems with a user called Shiv, who is becoming more troublesome by the week with his prejudiced tone and propoganda pushing rather than straight forward debating. I am confident of wikipedia's policies of policing itself and I really dont want this user pushing out anti literature and biased propoganda through this medium as it would appear to 'legitamise' it if done through an established site such as this.

He has finally become quite abusive at a moderator this week and instead of debating the issue of his prejudiced article, he is instead evasive and argumentative. I also see him using sockpuppets and the like recently also which is quite concerning for a man alleging scholarly credibility.

He has now made a new page titled Hindu Rajputs which he has done because of the lock on the Rajput page. I am not in favour of this page as it paints a prejudiced and baised picture of actual history. Can something please be done and the matter settled please? His constant 'anti' material is testing a lot of users patience and causing a lot of frustration with him.

Hey there. I'm pleased to let you know that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator! You've volunteered to do housekeeping duties that normal users sadly cannot participate in. Sysops can't do a lot of stuff: They can't delete pages just like that (except patent nonsense like "aojt9085yu8;3ou"), and they can't protect pages in an edit war they are involved in. But they can delete random junk, ban anonymous vandals, delete pages listed on Votes for deletion (provided there's a consensus) for more than one week, protect pages when asked to, and keep the few protected pages that exist on Wikipedia up to date.

Almost anything you can do can be undone, but please take a look at The Administrators' how-to guide and the Administrators' reading list before you get started (although you should have read that during your candidacy ;). Take a look before experimenting with your powers. Also, please add Administrators' noticeboard to your watchlist, as there are always discussions/requests for admins there. Welcome to Esperanza![edit]

Welcome, Reflex Reaction/Archive1, to Esperanza, the Wikipedia member association! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member, you might be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is the StressUnit, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. A spam list is maintained by Redwolf24 to keep members up to date; you might want to consider adding your name to the list. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Possibles.

I encourage you to take an active voice in the running of Esperanza. We have a small government system, headed by our Administrator general, Essjay, and guided by the Advisory Committee comprised of myself, Flcelloguy. Ryan Norton, and Acetic Acid. The next set of elections will be at the end of the year, and I would be glad to see you vote, or even consider running for a position.

Removal of a link from Atlantis[edit]

Hi, I am writing on behalf of my wife, who cannot access the Internet at this time. The other day she was very happy as she told me that her page on Atlantis (atlantis.haktanir.org) was added to Wikipedia. She felt happy and proud that her hard work on the site had paid off.

I went to check it myself yesterday and I did not see the link. Then I figured out how to check the logs for it and it shows that you removed the link to her site on the basis that the link was not used as a reference but rather to promote a site.

That is quite meaningless as neither me nor my wife ever submitted the link to her page to Wikipedia. I don't see any reason why someone else would bother to do the promotion for us. In fact going into the logs further it can be seen that the site was added by a registered user of Wikipedia. Moreover, if you look at her site you will see that it is full of useful information.

So my question is, in what way does the site in question not fit as a refernce to Atlantis? Also, since we pay for our server and get nothing in return (no banners, no advertisement, no products, etc.), why do you think the sole purpose of the site being added was promotion?

Thank you very much for writing me about wikipedia. I also want to thank you for writing in a clear tone, many of my correspondence is not. I have already restored the link to your wife site (which has excellent content, though suffers from a difficult design, text boxes are often terrible for content, but that is an aside). Because anybody can edit a page, it means that there are often people with an agenda that they want voiced, or they simply want to draw traffic to their site. I have been active in policing external links on this page and many others, see the history at dieting or toontown or my watchlist. In particular I have been following this particular article for over a month and have removed some other inappropriate links. I removed your wife link because it was under the section header was "References" and not "External links". Because I rewrote a majority of the article, and I never used it as a reference when doing so, I removed it. Reflex Reaction, I created an account on wikipedia on your suggestion. I would like to draw your attention to rajput page.

I have created the document from a list of 61 books which are mentioned in the references section. Authors have done extensive research in the field of history and then published these books. Muslims and some users like zora/gothean are accusing me of hindutva POV/anti muslim and I have repeatedly asked these muslims and self proclaimed moderators,on the talk page, to point out historically incorrect statements in the article. No one has come forth. Yet they revert my edits. When I ask them for citations they remain quiet.

Also it seems providing references is meaningless here. What seems to be working is how many people one has on there side. i.e what matters on wikipedia is outshouting the other.

Now they are accusing me of impersonating others.

Can you keep an eye out on the rajput page and help in whatever manner you can?

Again I can understand what you are saying, but let me make some things clear:

This is about information and I thought as the word was Review - product-reviews.net as in the name and the content was related (not traffic)
If your talking Alexa rank then that means you do not take content into count and on the "review" page you have www.newautoseeker.com which has a alexa rank of 551,809 and
ALso I may take this to who controls you as you are having sites on the Review page like www.fetchbook.info which is just a comparison shopping site (this is very bad on your part as product-reviews.net is for the user and 99% information) as the page we are talking about is "Reviews"

I have been working at home and online for over 6 years and I can see when you are letting pure shopping site on this page and that is wrong. In fact please can you answer one last question so I get an idea of what your goals are and your not playing god. What counts to you as a site that is related to Review? (as product-reviews.net to you is not)

To sum up: I believe you are someone who loves wikipedia, and wants to see the best related content for the user, but understand that I have this view too - product-reviews.net is REVIEW content and not a comparison shopping site like www.fetchbook.info www.comparisonhq.co.uk www.dooyoo.co.uk etc. If you really hate spam like me you will see I have the users interest at heart (and how you can have sites like www.fetchbook.info which is all "commercial" I do not know and I am sure others would want to know why too

Thanks For explaining, could I ask one last question, you said "Your site also did not come up within even the first five hundred results for searches "product reviews" or "technology review", implying that there are at least 500 other sites that should be listed prior to your site" This is a very good way to look at things, as they should be before me if they also have good content. This point noted - is it fair to say if product-reviews.net had much more content and was 1st page of most search engines for product reviews and technology review it should then be on that page. as then it would be the same as http://www.tomshardware.com/ - hows about I contact you in a year about that.

List of notable films[edit]

I figured as much, but as it stands now, it's prone to draw someone into creating a duplicate of an existing article with another name. As of now, I haven't gone through the lists that meticulously. Mostly I've looked through the lists and tried to find articles that are likely to be of a decent standard, checked that they had infoboxes and weren't otherwise bad articles and tried to improve them and then pruned the lists accordingly. I am currently compiling another list which I think will just be called Hotlist 2, which will include the Oxford World Encyclopedia, the Encyclopedia Americana, and Yale's yet-to-be-released Milford Encyclopedia, and possibly some others. Perhaps I was a bit hasty in deleting directly unilaterally, but there are 0 hits for Burlicuous. It has been restored, but ~~should probably be~~ has been listed under WP:AFD - check the reasons there why it would be definitely delete if put up for a vote(can't confirm, non notable, neologism). Not a problem, I'm relatively new to being an admin myself. I agree thsi was an nn-bio, but I would have edited the article to put {{nn-bio}} on it and waited for anothe admin to delete. i belive strongly in "tag&bag" so i will not speedy delete anything except obvious non-sense/vandalism unless another editor has already tagged it. There is no wikipedia policy requiring this, but I think it helps things work better and reduces the likelyhood of accusations of being "too quick on the trigger". When i find something like this on AfD, I usually add {{nn-bio}} to the article, and subst User:DESiegel/A7V onto the AfD page. Feel free to copy that page if you wish.
