St. Stephen's School

I'm pretty sure that St. Stephen's has got over 2000 students over both campuses. I'm in Year 12 (this year :D) at Duncraig...but I think that there is about 150 students in each high school year group, and 30 students in each class in primary school (double-streaming for years 5-7). Therefore there should be about 5*150+6*30+2*3*30=1110 students per campus. Again, I'm not too sure about Carramar.

Also, it's probably better to cite "well-regarded" - for a lot of students, it seems anything but. Although I quite like it :) I heart duff 01:54, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

Re: Australian category scales

Category 5 Severe Tropical Cyclone Larry 4

Yes I'm concerned about it too. The problem is we need a useful global comparative scale (Beaufort scale would be junk for example); and the SSHS is the most suitable candidate for that. It is readily usable with all other scales; except for the Australian one - because of the fact they are both numerical. For example, the SW Indian Anita does this well. This makes me think the best way forward here would be to ignore the fact the Aussie scale is numerical and just use it as if it was text. The top of the infobox in the season for Cyclone Larry could then look like that to the right. The section header would be "Cyclone Larry", which is how it is known locally (and globally). The full local designation is given, and the global equivalence (thru SSHS) is given. Its not perfect, but I think it is a reasonable solution.--Nilfanion (talk) 12:25, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

The Sweet Escape (song)

The convention that I've seen in nearly every article is that only national charts and the very occasional minor Billboard chart (Pop 100, Rhythmic Top 40, etc.) are used. I've responded at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Songs as not to scatter the discussion. You may also want to see if Velten has any input (she added the message about WP:SONG). Question is, when was the BOM report last updated? The news article does not say that it was downgraded *at landfall*, and the BOM report itself says it made landfall as a 4. I believe the news article means the BOM has downgraded it from its peak. I'm willing to email the BOM to ask, if needed. – Chacor 13:10, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Interesting. Well, an initial email reply from the BOM would suggest that it retained Cat5 status at peak, but they said to email back if I had further queries, so I did. JTWC acknowledged in its 21Z warning (18Z operational) on the 26th that a peak of 105 kt had been reached around 06Z (despite their 06Z saying 65 kt).

The reason I changed to platinum is because the ARIA website, the official source for accreditations, says the single only reached platinum status, here. However, the 2005 and 2006 singles pages didn't say anything about the song becoming 2x platinum. I often see a lot of websites that give information that's different from the ARIA website. By the way, the two sources above say that his debut album reached gold, but the ARIA site says it in fact went platinum, here. RaNdOm26 07:17, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

If you're referring to the accreditations at http://www.aria.com.au/pages/aria-charts-accreditations.htm I noticed a while back that they tended to only mention the accreditations received during the year of the first accreditation. A lot of this has since been corrected, but unfortunately not in the case of These Kids. These Kids received its first platinum award in 2004 (as listed) but it did not receive the second until 2005 (which they have overlooked). If you would like to check, I have many other sources besides the two I have listed that confirm the double platinum status. If ARIA disputes this, I'm happy for the platinum status to stand, but I trust the record company would know how many platinum awards they have received. Also, with regard to the sources saying the album only reached gold, the article on Mark Holden's website is old, and the article on the Central Station website does in fact read "The album continued to chart successfully for Joel and MDP, and finally achieved Platinum sales status". I understand that you feel the ARIA website is the best source for information, but unfortunately they have made an oversight. Southeast Indian Ocean/SW Pacific

To be honest, I'm not sure. I have not seen the RA IV Tropical Cyclone Operational Plan; I couldn't possibly tell. I suppose one of the reasons there is ambiguity in the SEIO/SWPac is that there are no real set boundaries as to where the SE Indian Ocean ends and the SW Pacific begins (as officially, there's no "Australian region" basin). I suppose that the article could be edited to make clear that there's no official "Australian region", but for simplicity and clarity's sake we've chosen to split the SEIO/SWP into Australia and Fiji/Wellington. – Chacor 08:20, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

• Thanks for getting in touch. As it stands the Tapping article is a good sample for the amount of information that's relevant on transport. Another is Heathridge, Western Australia which also includes a railway line. Nobody seems to be going further than that, and there does not seem to be a need to at this time. If you want to get utterly extreme, Hamersley, Western Australia recently got featured with quite detailed public transport information. However, that was in the context of quite a large and comprehensive article. Duncraig and Heathridge are good in different ways. Duncraig is a *huge* suburb so the road isn't so much a directional as a locator. For a suburb like Beldon it would hardly be necessary to document roads, for example. The system at Heathridge is very like one used on Brisbane articles. The standard is still a little haphazard at the moment, but it's a matter of just getting it in balance... I think one will develop with time and will be able to incorporate what the majority of people think is reasonable. (Disclaimer: I wrote most of Hamersley and Duncraig.) 2006-07 Southern Hemisphere splits

You forgot one thing when you split off the South-West Indian Ocean - you need to say you're splitting the content somewhere in an edit summary, or else we have problems with the GFDL. You can remove the section from the main article, just say you're splitting it to 2006-07 South-West Indian Ocean cyclone season in your edit summary. --Coredesat 06:30, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

First, please keep your edit summaries purely descriptive and civil. Secondly, the use of tables instead of lists in cases like this is not in accordance with either the MoS or the relevant WikiProjects. Thirdly, your insistence on re-adding interwikis for a different article is baffling. Finally, entries for nominations have been removed from many articles; discussions at other pages has reached consensus that they're no notable. Why do you think that a nomination that doesn't lead to an award should be included (beyond the fact that they make lists longer and give the appearance of greater prestige, which is PoV? --Mel Etitis (Talk) 22:47, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

There's a guide to uploading Flickr pictures here. This image has the message "© All rights reserved" under the Additional Information section on the right, so it would not be suitable. This one, however, says " Some rights reserved." and can be used under the {{cc-by-2.0}} license. Any Creative Commons license that doesn't have or can be used. ShadowHalo 18:08, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

re:Images of people

Hey Random! I personally think that there is no reason why images of a band which is still performing/still well known should be unfree - I try to replace band images where I can, as well as those of individuals. Basically - one could claim fair use for an unfree image of a band, but I think that's only fair if the band has stopped performing, or never performed live, or one of the members has passed away... etc. I'm slightly agressive about nonfree content though ;) Riana ⁂ 17:39, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

Hey, thanks for commenting. I'm not really sure about other websites holding ARIA information besides pandora web achive and australian-charts but I search through some forums and are able to find some albums peaks before 2001, this site for example [3]. I have David Kent's Australian Chart Book 1993 - 2005 but the positions are not official (close though) but the weeks in charts are about the same, i am also planning to get David Kent's Chart Book 1970-1992, wich has official chart peaks until June 1988, so if you want any request feel free to ask me. You could also email ARIA at charts.mail@aria.com.au but it takes ages for them to reply. Sorry I could not have been more help but ARIA has stated on the official website "ARIA is in the process of reviewing and redeveloping its web presence to increase the interactivity of the chart and include some access to archival chart information" [4] so hopefully that will be soon :). About those succession boxes

I see you have now added a UK succession box to Back to Bedlam to go with the ARIA one. Generally speaking, I find succession boxes to be useless information and simply another way to add internal links to articles that are essentially unrelated, thus falsely boosting google rankings. However, in this case, my biggest problem with the ones you have added is that they are poorly formatted. The songs are not on the same line as the dates to which they refer (making them difficult to interpret), the font size is too large, and they take up way too much space. Too much of this article is taken up by charts as it is, and these are the least useful of them, so I will be deleting them. I encourage you to take the time to reconsider the format you are using, bearing in mind my comments in the earlier sentence. NB- I will copy this comment over to the talk page of the article as an explanation there for my edit, but I did want to personally let you know why I have deleted these charts. FL Main page proposal

You nominated a current WP:FLC. As such, you are the type of editor whose opinion I am soliciting. We now have over 400 featured lists and seem to be promoting in excess of 30 per month of late (41 in August and 42 in September). When Today's featured article (TFA) started (2004-02-22), they only had about 200 featured articles and were barely promoting 20 new ones per month. I think the quality of featured lists is at least as good as the quality of featured articles was when they started appearing on the main page. Thus, I am ready to open debate on a proposal to institute a List of the Day on the main page with nominations starting November 1 2007, voting starting December 1 2007 and main page appearances starting January 1 2008. For brevity, the proposal page does not discuss the details of eventual main page content, but since the work has already been done, you should consider this proposal assuming the eventual main page will resemble either an excerpted list format or an abbreviated text format. The proposal page does not debate whether starting with weekly list main page entries would be better than daily entries. However, I suspect persons in favor of weekly lists are really voicing opinions against lists on the main page since neither TFA nor Picture of the day started as weekly endeavors, to the best of my knowledge. Right now debate seems to be among support for the current selective democratic/consensus based proposal, a selective dictatorial approach like that used at WP:TFA or a non-selective first in line/calendar approach like that used at WP:POTD. Thanks for your input. You're right, it is stubborn behaviour, which is getting very irritating now. I have suggested compromise, opened discussion and yet (s)he insists they must be right. At least we are forming a consensus now, which is clearly to keep the Timbaland chronology. However, I doubt that he will adhere to this, as they have already stated that compromise is not the way to go! Not quite sure they understand how wikipedia works! Anyway, thanks again.
