Returned from the mud

Peridon would like to thank all his New Year good wishers, and would wish almost everyone a great New Year (exceptions being the obvious ones like vandals, spammers, etc). He wasn't involved in the UK flooding as such (having been on a hill), but is still drying clothing, removing the last of the mud from things, and coughing slightly. R.J.Rowell

You had as of yesterday deleted a page that was not even 24hrs old under the reason "and we don't allow 'original research' " but by that comment I can tell that my article and comments on the "contest the nomination" were not really read, but merely skimmed through. What I was writing about IS historical fact ! My information comes from many sources that I was not given enough time to provide Wiki with. These facts have been proven by Bill Warren New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, Thomas Linacre an Oxford professor, Emanuel Tov Dead Seas Scrolls Publication Project, Israel Antiquities Authority, Judith H. Newman Society of Biblical Literature and 6 other university professors and resources that I have gathered together. So with this in mind, why was this deleted SO FAST ? Will I be permitted to write this article in any way ?

To put a heading, use == on either side of it (I've done it for you here), and please sign talk page posts with ~~~~. OK. Speedy deletion can be anything from five seconds (for a quickly spotted attack page) to a couple of days or more. There's no objection to you having another go - but not in article space until it's ready to stand on its own feet. I suggest creating it at User:R.J.Rowell/DRAFT (click that and save it). That is in your user space, and gives time for working on it. It's better than having a part of something in article space, especially if you get interrupted. What you posted wasn't suitable as it stood for an article here - style wise at least. Things like "I'm here to inform people..." and "Before I get into the actual parts changed from the original text, I would like to discuss..." are definitely not encyclopaedic. The word 'I' in articles is right out (except in direct quotes). Coming here 'to inform people' in that way suggests pushing an idea, which is why it was tagged as promotion. Neutrality is very important, and that style is sometimes not easy to achieve. That's part of why I asked you to read those articles I linked to at your talk page. Also so you could see the referencing methods we use here. If you allow me to, I'll call in a couple of experienced regular editors who are concerned with the religious matters side of Wikipedia. If you agree to this, I'll restore your deleted bit to your user space so they can see it (they aren't admins, and they can't read deleted things - admins are equipped with 8-) x-ray glasses). They'll be able to advise you and help you. Wikipedia writing isn't as easy as, say, posting on Facebook. We have rather a lot of rules, guidelines and customs. Have a look at more articles from the style perspective. Oh, and please don't start paragraphs with spaces. It does odd things. It used to put things into typewriter like letters, and lines would go on and on without wrapping down. Now, it just uses the typewriter letters and puts a sort of box in. Normally, we just type without a new paragraph indent (but put two returns between paragraphs), and to indent a paragraph (like I've done here), we type one or more : at the start. Deletion of Anita Erskine

Hi i would wish you elaborate on reasons why the aforementioned subject was deleted? The subject in question here is a very notable presenter and show host in Ghana and Africa. I think a quick search on her online should show so many links that lead to her prominence. I didn't delete for lack of significance (which was the tag). I deleted it instead because of the promotional language used, such as "...a renowned media person. She has proven her versatility...", and "Without doubt, Anita Erskine is one of Ghana's best Female Presenters". Wording like that should not be used articles in an encyclopaedia such as Wikipedia. Some of the wording was taken directly from the Viasat site, and this was a copyright violation. The Viasat site cannot be used to show notability, as it is not independent of the subject (or the other way round, really). I'm not too sure about the newsghana ref as being truly a piece of good coverage. At least it's independent, although I think it's THEIR idea of the Top 5 rather than something reliably established. She may well be notable enough, which is why I removed the original tag. There was enough to pass 'claim to significance' anyway. But the wording had to go. Sorry, but that's how it is. Try again in your user space, and if MelanieN is back from vacation, have a word with her about references. She's very good on references (amongst other things, of course...). That's clear, I have a better understanding of what you were getting at. I don't mind help with it. Was just very confusing about "why" it was deleted. Peridon, do me a favor and just delete my account. I was going to take the time to learn the format and so on; but I have decided to take my information somewhere else. Some people here on Wiki try to help others (like yourself)while others just discourage, and repress people to invest in this site for whatever reasons, those people seem to be very closed minded and quick to judge. I do appreciate your time, but some of these people constantly making the statement that this looks like original work, or saying this isn't the place for your option when I have dates, names and references of where this data came from. I'm sorry that you feel that way, but Yopienso and Drmies were trying to help you too. It's not easy to explain to someone who is acting in good faith that they may very well be mistaken about the function of Wikipedia. Good luck with your venture, anyway. I am also sorry that we can't delete your account. That's not a custom, or a rule - it simply can't be done by anyone because the software is not built to allow it. You can blank your talk page, and put {{db-u1}} at the top of your user page if you want it deleted, or just blank it too. Just blanking is usually a good enough way of getting out, but you could go to WP:CHU and ask for a rename to something like 'Janice the Elephant' which then removes your name (scroll down to 'Simple' and say you are changing for privacy reasons). The account can then just be abandoned. There is another way, if you are sure you're not coming back at all. See WP:VANISH which is applicable as you are a user in good standing. (Vandals and other miscreants can't use it...) This is more for long term editors with lots of contributions (that is, edits not money - money gains no privileges here). Please sign talk page posts with ~~~~ which puts your signature on. Thanks. I can't guarantee anything about the future, but I think the article's safe for now. It would be better if the referencing were 'inline' rather than just being a list, but as I'm not much good at that myself, I'm going to ask @MelanieN: to pop in. She's good at referencing, but you'll need to tell her what bits are referenced by which book (if she takes this task on - she does get busy at times). We can't expect easily accessible online references for an old subject, but anything more that's third party would always help. I'm keeping the article on my watchlist, too. Some people would consider this to be an obscure subject (not a reason for deletion in itself), but I think things like this are of far more value than are articles about a footballer who's played two games at professional level, or about a rapper who's had one minor hit and a slightly more notable jail sentence. Thanks for the ping, Peridon, and hello, User:Youssef simaika. Marcus Simaika certainly sounds like an interesting and important man. (An ancestor of yours, I'm guessing?) The article is well written and fairly neutral (by which I mean, it doesn't exaggerate his accomplishments or praise him too highly). But there is a major problem, as Peridon noted. The references can't just be listed. They have to be used to cite the information in the article - to show where the information came from. Not every little fact has to be cited, but the extraordinary claims should be - things like "He became the only Egyptian to reach such high rank" or some of his honors. To learn how to cite a reference, see WP:Referencing for beginners. I'll do one to show you what I mean. --MelanieN (talk) 15:11, 16 January 2016 (UTC)
 Done I did it by what I consider the easiest way to cite references. When you are editing an article, you will notice a row of boxes above the editing window. One of them is "cite". Click on that and it will let you choose what kind of reference you are citing: web page, news, book, etc. Choose one and it will give you some boxes to fill in. After you have filled in the information, place your computer cursor in the article where you want the reference to go, and click "add citation". That's important! If you preview or save the page without first clicking "add citation", you will lose the information and have to do it over. Eddie Baccus Jr.

Please explain to me how I'm "promoting" someone that is already a link on a page that is up on Wikipedia. Eddie Baccus Jr. is a former member of Pieces of a Dream band. Wikipedia has him listed there. I clicked on his name and it mentioned that he did not have one, but would I like to create one. He was a member of that band for 15 years! I didn't pull his name out of my ass. He co-wrote one of their best songs Knikki Smile. He already has a website so no "shameless promotion" needed. I just thought that since he was already listed in a group where other musicians had pages that he should have one too. That being said, do you have a problem with Mr. BACCUS or the way it was written or both? Dejavu1984 (talk) 11:57, 18 January 2016 (UTC)

Promotion is nothing to do with being linked already. It's in the wording. Things like "stepped out on a lush, soulful and funky Journey To Love", "Baccus is excited about", and "whose title perfectly reflects Baccus’ life and career as he reflects on the last 20 years" - and that's just in the first paragraph. Wording like that doesn't belong in an encyclopaedia - it's just like a directory profile, or someone's own web site or Facebook page. It's PR stuff. It's not shouting to passers-by in a market "Loverly cabbages, caulis an' sprouts, all fresh from the fields, get 'em while the dew's still on 'em!", but it is promoting. And anywhere else, that would be fine. Not on Wikipedia. We insist on neutral wording, grey wording even, with no enthusiasm at all. No 'peacock' words (WP:PEACOCK). Warts and all stuff - remember that anyone can edit an article, and stuff that the subject mightn't like can be put in there, so long as it's correctly referenced. As to Mr Baccus, I have no personal opinion. On the whole, I don't go for jazz stuff later than Bob Crosby (but did like Esbjorn Svensson as well as trad revival people like Kenny Ball and Acker Bilk) and have played in a modern trio with another instrumentalist and a vocalist. If you try again, do a complete rewrite after reading the policies. Being a red link is not an indication that an article is required - it just means that someone thought that one might be an idea. Put it at User:Dejavu1984/DRAFT, where it'll be safe except for spam, attack, hoax or copyright violation tagging. Those are nor allowed anywhere here. If it does get tagged, contest it. You must not remove a speedy tag yourself, or an Articles (or Miscellaneous) for Deletion one. You can remove a Proposed Deletion tag (but not a prod-blp one, which is about unreferenced bio of living person). When you think you're getting somewhere, contact me and I'll get another opinion. I'm quite neutral myself when working here (I once rescued an article about a rapper and I rather dislike (c)rap...) but you'd probably feel better with someone else commenting. Good luck. Aarthi (actress) was deleted per the AfD discussion back in May 2015. It has been recreated but I am not entirely sure if the content is substantially identical to the previously deleted version. We cannot accept the text because it is not licensed for free use as Wikipedia is licensed. If the site owner declares (on the site) that it is licensed under CC-BY-SA 3.0 and the GFDL, that would be OK - but the Copyright notice and All Rights Reserved would have to go. The copyright of the text would remain the owner's, but it would be licensed for reuse by anyone anywhere (as anyone posting here does when they click 'Save'...) and this licence cannot be revoked later - unlike love (mostly, anyway), it IS forever. Read those links I gave you, and seriously consider rewriting in fresh words. as it stood, it wasn't really suitable for an article without quite major rewriting. Look at the articles for other people in a similar line. Read WP:ATHLETE - I'm not so sure about the notability side. Winning Wimbledon is one thing - playing there may not be so notable. Also read WP:RS about the reliable independent sources needed to prove notability. The Wimbledon site is an RS for playing there, and TCAV probably is for simple fact, but it's not really independent if he was a member of it. I'll ask a friend to have a look. She may be better with sport than I am (I do know copyright stuff through being a writer, but I had to learn a lot more here) - @MelanieN: anyone for tennis? Thank you. Thank you for you kind help. I won't ask the owner to remove his footer line, so I will just write a new text. Most likely it will look better in the end anyways. Donald Tregonning played up to the quarter finals, which they obviously forgot in they're text. Also he was in the top 30 players of Australia. You might be right that the TCAV aren't independent, but the site of the TCAV had Donald Tregonning in the founding members. If somebody could help me with this that would be just great.

Hello, Jason. I'm not much help when it comes to tennis, but I would suggest you start out by reading this page: Wikipedia:WikiProject Tennis/Article guidelines. It has lots of suggestions about how to format the article, what references to use, and how to judge notability. Also, have a look at Help:Referencing for beginners. Start your article as a draft - you could do it at User:JasonMarxs/Donald P. Tregonning - and then nobody would hassle you or threaten deletion while you work on it. When you think you have it ready to move to the main encyclopedia, you could post a note at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Tennis and ask for comments and suggestions. --MelanieN (talk) 22:52, 23 January 2016 (UTC)
