Regarding vandalism by 216.144.187.5

Yeah, I, being the responsible person, will have to apologize all the vandalism coming from here. Please understand that this is all coming from school, and thus, is shared throughout my entire district. I understand your concerns for all the vandalism coming from this page, but it's not coming from all one person. Thus, I beg that you do not ban this IP from editing, since there are students who have made productive edits.

With Kind Regards, Socks

I don't know if blanking is the correct word for it, but why did you revert my (i am an anon.) valid edit to The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe? RfA thanks from Deathphoenix

Hi NK,

I just wanted to thank you for supporting me in my RfA. To tell you the truth, I was surprised by all the support I've gotten. I never saw myself as more than an occasional Wiki-hobbyist.

My wife sends her curses, as Wikipedia will likely suck up more of my time. She jokingly (I think) said she was tempted to log on to Wikipedia just to vote Oppose and let everyone know that she didn't want her husband to be an admin.

tagging articles for speedy

G'day Naconkantari,

I recently deleted an article you'd tagged as speedy. While the article was a clear candidate for speedying, the edit where you added the tag was marked as minor. The "minor edit" feature was intended for when you do really minor stuff, like correcting a typo or adding a space. It's not intended for when you tag articles for deletion which, let's face it, is about as major an edit as you can get. Cheers, fuddlemark (fuddle me!) 04:49, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I didn't notice that as I have my preferences set for always select minor edit. Thanks for the heads-up! --NaconKantari 04:50, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

apologies, and a question

I have apparently misunderstood the external-link policy. I did not see in it any outright ban on linking to my own site, only a note that "external links should support the content of the article, not replace it." I very carefully sought out some Wiki articles about some of the people I've interviewed for my author-interview website, and then placed links to my site in the appropriate "External links" section. If this is a violation of protocol, I certainly apologize, and won't do it again. But now my question: why are links to other sites that are similar to mine permitted? (e.g. The Diane Rehm show, Leonard Lopate show, Don Swaim of CBS, etc) Is it ONLY because I submitted the links myself? Bill 05:14, 29 December 2005 (UTC)

Could you please provide a direct link to an example? Thanks --NaconKantari 05:17, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Each of these pages has an external link to an interview or media site like mine: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diana_Gabaldon http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_McCourt http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Art_Buchwald http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Alda My site, by the way, is http://www.eyeonbooks.com. It's all author interviews. Am I too "commercial" in that I am an Amazon Associate? I do not sell anything myself. Bill 05:22, 29 December 2005 (UTC)

According to [4], Links that are added to promote a site, by the site operator or its affiliates are generally not allowed. --NaconKantari 05:26, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Fair enough. I assume, therefore, that no person connected in any way to the above-mentioned shows was responsible for any of those links. And I assume that the fact that most of those sites are Amazon affiliates, too, and could theoretically benefit from a Wiki link is irrelevant. I will refrain from further linking. Bill 05:35, 29 December 2005 (UTC)

Hey, I may be wrong but I thought I'd mention it to you, because I noticed that on the England page when you were reverting that vandalism that your rollback button changed the these < > on the page and made some of the text appear funny in my browser. I'll second that. I've looked at some of your reverts and they seem to change the "&" (amperstand) char to the html-code for that char. Vandalism?

Vandalism is any addition, deletion, or change to content made in a deliberate attempt to compromise the integrity of the encyclopedia. The most common type of vandalism is the replacement of existing text with obscenities, page blanking, or the insertion of other wholly irrelevant content.

Any good-faith effort to improve the encyclopedia, even if misguided or ill-considered, is not vandalism. Apparent bad-faith edits that do not make their bad-faith nature inarguably explicit are not considered vandalism at Wikipedia.

What Vandalism am I accused of?--

Advice

Please stop targeting one or more users' talk pages for abuse or insults, unwarranted doctoring or blanking. It can be seen as vandalism and may get you blocked from editing Wikipedia. --NaconKantari 01:16, 10 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism? What vandalism? I was talking with an adnministrator about an image I had used for one of my userboxes. He said it did not belong on Wikipedia in an article. A picture used in an article would be more appropriate. I had a pic of George W. Bush, which suited what I needed. The pic was perfect for the article on George W. Bush, as it was lacking in objectivity and seem to whitewash the subject a bit. If there is any offense to George W. Bush giving the finger to the American people, take it up with him. But, I make no apologies for contributing to the historical record.--

That picture is inappropriate and taken out of context. I stand by my decision to remove it. Also, please consider removing the userbox from your signature, as it is very large. --NaconKantari 01:39, 10 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Context of Bush photo

What was out of context about a glimpse behind-the-scenes of a public figure? I made a mistake putting it next to a paragraph about his alleged religious beliefs. But, I feel that more information available on a given subject is usually better than less, for an informed public. Below is the further conversation I've been having with WAvegetarian about the context of the photo and the relevance to American history, such as it is.

Upon further research, your insinuation that this was to the American people is utterly baseless. He was goofing off before the taping of something else. He never bragged about it. He said in response to the laughs it garnered from the camera crew, "It's just my one fingered victory salute." It never went to air. It doesn't add anything to the article. It certainly doesn't belong in his religious beliefs section. You are in violation of WP:POINT and WP:NPOV. Should you continue in such a manner I will refer you to an admin to carry out the warning above. WAvegetarian (talk) (email) (contribs) 01:43, 10 January 2006 (UTC) Advice
Wait a minute. How have I violated WP:POINT and WP:NPOV? Having just skimmed through it, I may not be as well versed in Wikipedia rules as some. But, I did not "try to make a point", other than contribute to an article that seemed a little more than biased in favor of the subject (My use of the image in a userbox is another issue altogether). If there is any POV violation it would be the author of the page and defenders of it. Regardless if Bush knew the camera was on, his true beliefs on the subject of his election are clear (despite whatever whitewashed babble his handlers ensure the public see) He said in response to the laughs he got as his "one fingered victory salute" isn't bragging? Excuse me? The only reason these things aren't commonly known (which would be useful to the public) is because they are censored and sent down the memory hole. How else is something going to be the "official" public record? Must the man publicly abuse an audience of thousands for history to record what he really was? By that reasoning, Nixon's tapes should never have been disclosed, the Pentagon Papers should never have become publicly known, and human history would look a lot like the old Soviet Union's version of things, down the memory hole.--Mike Nobody ¿ =/\= 02:06, 10 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I'm searching for more details about the specifics of what happened when this picture was taken. It may take me some time. On a sidenote, I was hoping I could still use it in a userbox. Maybe it's too soon after this friction over the pic, it seems to piss people off very easily. I guess I have a talent for that.--

Ditto! Darth Panda 23:14, 19 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Very quick

How can you always be so quick to revert without being a sysop (provided Special:Listadmins be up to date)?  Pabix  22:03, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have a modified monobook.js file that puts a rollback link on every article. --NaconKantari 22:04, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I too, thanks to Sam Hocevar. But maybe you're closer to Florida than me (near Paris in fact)  Pabix

Reverts

Good work on all the reverts, but I suggest you take some time to inform individuals what you have done by using the test templates. Thanks, JHMM13 (T | C) 22:26, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, thanks for the reverts to the continual vandalism to the Abmamoff page. How do we get the vandal to stop? Sholom 21:26, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks -- I just gave it a try -- Sholom 21:44, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Krashlandon

The blanking you reverted on my userpage was a test by my un-logged-in self, a self-vandalism if you will, to test how long it takes for vandalisms to be reverted. It was 30 seconds. Please do not take action on my ip. :) Krashlandon 23:05, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You're an admin, could you remove that log from my ip's user contributions? I don't want it to cause any confusion in the future. Thanks. Krashlandon 17:32, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I would, but I am not an administrator. --NaconKantari 20:44, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, sorry. I'm thinking about someone else. You should apply though. You more than qualify. Krashlandon 21:13, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think that my account is too new for any good to come out of a RfA. Mabye in a few months. --NaconKantari 21:14, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

But how do you have a rollback button if you are not an admin? Is it your .js file that you keep saying that you have? How can I get one? Krashlandon 21:16, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Information about modifying your monobook.js file can be found at Monobook. You can just copy the text from mine at User:Naconkantari/monobook.js and paste it into yours. --NaconKantari 21:19, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I'll try it. Krashlandon
It's not working. It keeps formatting it weirdly. Krashlandon 22:08, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh well, I don't need it. After seeing how rollbacks can go wrong (and on this page even) and having to fix the page myself, I'm not sure I want it. I'll just stick with regular reverts until I'm an admin. Krashlandon 02:40, 14 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, lets try this again

I have a few questions regarding a comment that I think you made about me. 1. Was that an automated respose because I was on wikipedia for the first time? 2. How did that guy delete my comment? That seemed very rude. \ WisePitfighter 02:04, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It says at the top of the page that unsigned comments will be considered vandalism. Krashlandon 02:35, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh great, I think I overwrote someone else's comment. I'm having some difficulties here >.< WisePitfighter

Im just going to go away now and read some more FAQ's

Could you please point me to the automated comment in question? I checked your contributions and all you had were edits to my usertalk page. --NaconKantari 02:21, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Matt Furey article

Many thanks for countering those, I never can monitor a watchlist enough to catch idiots like that. Any chance we could ban that IP from ever posting? I'm actually confused as to how he did, I thought since everyone needed to register to make changes that there would be no more IPs. Anyway, I commented on his user page. Tyciol 10:07, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The livesinmom'sbasement vandal

Interesting problem there with AIV. Because all the nonsense articles were speedied, there wasn't any evidence anymore of the vandalism...unless we know what the articles were named to go look at the deleted histories. I'll bring that up on talk. :) --Syrthiss 22:07, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I noticed you voted to on the abovementioned article. Initialy I wanted to keep it, but when I compared it to Nigritude ultramarine and Seraphim proudleduck it seems obvious that all theese articles are repating the same info:

  • It's a search contest
  • It has begin/end dates
  • It has a prize
  • It uses a unique phrase that is not used before

I'd like to urge you to change your vote to Redirect to SEO Contest where I have created already made a copy of the article. This way they dont have "their own article" but they are mentioned in the encyclopedia. Seems like a compromise to me. Right now w/ all the Delete, Keep, And Redirect votes it will be hard to reach a compromise. This user has left wikipedia 22:15, 21 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dieter Dierks page/ copyright violation

Hi Naconkantari, it was my first time writing on wikipedia and I did not read the instructions well enough. I am sorry. I copied the article from another website to wikipedia. It was tagged right away, which led me to actually read the instructions... So I took advantage of the subpage and wrote my own original article from scratch, as suggested. The article can be replaced now and I am sorry, but I didn't know what I was doing. That's not going to happen again!Conciacalis 00:17, 24 January 2006 (UTC)Conciacalis[reply]

Welcome to Esperanza!

Welcome, Nakon/archive1, to Esperanza, the Wikipedia member association! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is the StressUnit, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. Redwolf24 runs the spam to keep members up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Possibles.

I encourage you to take an active voice in the running of Esperanza. We have a small government system, headed by our Administrator general, Celestianpower, and guided by the Advisory Committee comprised of FireFox, Flcelloguy, Titoxd, and Karmafist. The next set of elections will be in February, and I would be glad to see you vote, or even consider running for a position.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Celestianpower by email or talk page or the Esperanza talk page. Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

An Esperanzial note

As I remember, the last spam that was handed out was on the 20th of December last year, so I think it's time for another update. First and foremost, the new Advisory Council and Administrator General have been elected. They consist of myself as Admin General and FireFox, Titoxd, Flcelloguy and Karmafist as the Advisory Council. We as a group met formally for the first time on the 31st of Decembe. The minutes of this meeting can be found at WP:ESP/ACM. The next one is planned for tonight (Sunday 29 January) at 20:30 UTC and the agenda can be found at WP:ESP/ACM2.

In other news, Karmafist has set up a discussion about a new personal attack policy, which it can be found here. Other new pages include an introductory page on what to do when you sign up, So you've joined Esperanza... and a welcome template: {{EA-welcome}} (courtesy of Bratsche). Some of our old hands may like to make sure they do everything on the list as well ;) Additionally, the userpage award program proposal has become official is operational: see Wikipedia:Esperanza/User Page Award to nominate a userpage or volunteer as a judge. Also see the proposed programs page for many new proposals and old ones that need more discussion ;)

Other than that, I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and wish you an Esperanzially good new WikiYear :D Thank you! --Celestianpower háblame 16:57, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
