Your recent editing history shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you get reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. Merinsan, articles at Wikipedia must comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy - and in particular, avoid undue weight and unencyclopedic content, cite reliable sources in compliance with Wikipedia's reliable sources policy, and must not synthesise what is actually stated in the sources. Your recent edits at Spoorthi have failed to comply with these requirements. Please discuss your proposed edits at the talk page until a consensus is reached in relation to them there. If you continue to edit war on the article prior to a consensus being reached, your editing privileges may be revoked. Ncmvocalist (talk) 12:36, 1 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop adding unreferenced or poorly referenced biographical content, especially if controversial, to articles or any other Wikipedia page. Content of this nature could be regarded as defamatory and is in violation of Wikipedia policy. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Ncmvocalist (talk) 13:28, 1 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You may provide specifics on what are unreferenced and what are poorly sourced. But removing the whole thing and bulk of the article, without giving specifics is excessive. Merinsan (talk) 13:41, 1 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The way you are removing bulk content from the article without giving specific justification amounts to vandalism. You are removing properly given references without justification. The same references have already been reviewed by many users and accepted as 'properly sourced'. The same references have also been accepted as 'properly sourced' on other related articles such as Airtel Super Singer Junior and Diwakar. How come you find the same references and same type of references as 'poorly sourced' in this particular article?. It looks like you are the one engaging in continued edit-warring or personal attacks. Merinsan (talk) 13:53, 1 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The subject in this article won the reality show last month after being in the competition for almost a year. The show started one year ago and broadcast on a daily basis at prime time for a full one hour on a popular Tamil TV channel STAR Vijay. Star Vijay channel is part of 21st Century Fox's STAR India network. This TV channel is available all over the world. This show is very popular among Indians and Srilankans living around the world, in India, Srilanka, USA, Canada, Europe, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia and many other parts of the world. The subject of this article came through the show unscathed of all eliminations week after week and topped hundreds of participants from around the world starting from the auditions one year ago. It also must be noted that the final winner of the competition is chosen based scores given by eminent personalities (close to 30 in numbers) who personally sat through the 'grand finale' at the judges panel. Also 50% weightage of the scores was taken from public voting. Public from around the world enthusiastically participated in public voting which was done through a dedicated online website as well as local SMS votes from within India. This show during the course of its run over a year also featured personalities from Indian music and film industry, such as A.R.Rahman, S.P.Balasubramanyam, Dhanush among others as special guests and special judges. Winning the title of this show is a dream for many aspiring singers as many previous winners such as Diwakar, Alka Ajith as well as many other participants have went on to make a foothold in the field of Indian playback singing for Indian film industry. Therefore, winning the title of this contest by the subject of the article cannot be considered as a minor feat. The grand finale and the title winner was substantially covered in mainline newspapers in India, references of which are given in the article. Previous winners of this show also have articles created and published in Wikipedia, eg. Diwakar, Alka Ajith. Therefore the request for the deletion of this article should not be granted. Mentorship offer[edit]

Merinsan, I see you have gotten off to a rough start here and would like to help. Often times Wikipedia can be an intimidating place for newcomers for a variety of reasons. For example, we have a problem with people creating accounts to promote themselves and/or their businesses and have to act decisively. Unfortunately, good faith users such as yourself are often viewed as suspect as a result.

When you then made mistakes because of inexperience, things got out of hand quickly. If you are interested, I would be willing to mentor you going forward. I would only ask that you agree not to make any further reverts on Spoorthi (which you can't edit at the moment anyway) or related articles without my input. Let me know if you agree, ThaddeusB (talk) 18:47, 6 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

ThaddeusB, it is very kind of you to have understood my problems I have been facing and I am really grateful to your offer to mentor me going forward. I appreciate your suggestion and I agree I will not make any further reverts without your input. Thank you once again. Merinsan (talk) 18:58, 6 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Great. Let me start my offering my philosophy on content... When I find some content to be important, the important thing for me is that it is retained in some fashion. Whether that is as a stand-alone article or part of another article rarely matters to me. Let's say there article is about a sports player I want to keep, but its not very long and someone else thinks the player isn't very important and wants to delete it. I would probably offer as a compromise to merge the article into a wider article about the team he plays for. As long as the same information is retained, it does not matter very much very it is located. In your case, if the Spoorthi material were merged to the Airtel Super Singer Junior page, most everything could be kept in principle. That may not be your preferred way to treat the subject, but surely is better than having it deleted outright. (I am not arguing you should change your opinion here, just explaining my philosophy.) Incidentally, there is probably good reason to split season 4 off from the main article, in which case it would be even easier to have a significant amount of material about Spoorthi in it.
If you like, I can explain why we are usually hesitant to have articles about people (and especially children) known primarily for one event. Let me know. --ThaddeusB (talk) 20:02, 6 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. In my honest opinion, this wouldn't be appropriate to merge this article with the Airtel Super Singer Junior page. That page discusses in detail mainly the format of the contest. Also there isn't any section in the page for the previous winners of the show but many of them have their own stand-alone article. So, why not the current winner of the show also have her own article? This show is only getting more and more popular and the prize money increasing every other season. My preference is to keep this article as a standalone one, with your suggestions to curtail it as appropriate. Merinsan (talk) 20:17, 6 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The Civility Barnstar
For your attempt to talk matters through during recent events. Ceannlann gorm (talk) 20:47, 6 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • I won't presume to know how the deletion discussion will end - keeping is possible. Instead, I will explain why we don't often keep articles of living people known primary for one event "WP:BLP1E"... Typically when all the press coverage of a person related to a single event, it will not be possible to write a full biography. That is, since the press coverage will be derived from a single event, almost all the press coverage will be about the event. There will be little or nothing written about the rest of the subject's life before the event and especially not any about whatever else they do in life. Thus, it gives "undue" emphasis to only one aspect of the subject's life. (There are exceptions when an event is itself super notable, because these events tend to generate followup "where are they now coverage" years later, for example.)
In Spoorthi's case, if she goes on to have a professional singing career, she will no doubt easily pass notability (and the article could be restored from a redirect at a later time). If she doesn't, it wouldn't be fair to her to have her biography always "stuck" at age 10. If Wikipedia's coverage is only within the context of the show, then this is not a problem because it is not pretending to be a full biography. Hopefully that explains why people would be inclined to support a merge instead of a stand-alone article. --ThaddeusB (talk) 23:51, 11 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you User:ThaddeusB for your detailed explanations and suggestions. My appreciations. Talking about Spoorthi starting a professional music career I would like you to consider the following. In India, a professional singing career mainly means to get oneself into Playback singing for Indian film industry. Playback singers record songs for movie soundtracks, and film actors or actresses lip-sync the songs for cameras. Film songs mainly involves the leading stars of a movie and it is most always adult oriented. Only adult playback singers would suit for this purpose. Therefore it is not commonplace that we see child playback singers having professional singing career. Furthermore, there are also legal hurdles to be overcome by film's producers/music directors when it comes to signing up child playback singers. Film producers and music directors are not usually very keen to sign-up children for playback singing. Except when a song is required in a movie that need to be lip-synced by a child artist for a particular scene, which is very rare. Spoorthi being only 10 years old, will not start a professional singing career immediately. She also has her academics to pursue. That explains why Spoorthi hasn't entered into a music career as soon as winning the title of the reality show. You may also note that in the past many other senior participants, not necessarily the title winners, but even those who came within the top-10 rankings of the program have gone on to become film playback singers. Spoorthi being a child at present will not become a playback singer at once, but rather will be occasionally participating in Katcheris, (Carnatic Music concerts), some of which I preseume will be given due coverage in media.
Spoorthi after winning the title of the reality show has been included in a list of notable personalities to receive 'Kempe Gowda Award' by the State Government of Karnataka, India. The award was presented by the Chief Minister of Karnataka (equivalent to the Governor in USA). I would request you to suggest ways on how to include this in the article, possibly in "other achievements" section. Press references of this can be found in these links 1 & 2. The English press coverage doesn't include the names of all the recipients of the award as there are 91 recipients. But Spoorthi's name is mentioned in local language (Kannada) news article here. Local language news papers are usually more widely read than English newspapers in India.
Having got such an extraordinary singing talent and having garnered widespread acclaim from leading music directors such as A.R.Rahman, M. S. Viswanathan, D. Imman, etc., and present day popular singers such as S. P. Balasubrahmanyam, K. S. Chithra, Mano (singer), P. Unni Krishnan, Sujatha Mohan as well as Indian Classical music stalwarts such as T. H. Vinayakram, T. N. Seshagopalan, Sudha Ragunathan, etc., who all appeared in the reality show as judges or special guests, I am quite sure this biography will not be 'stuck' at age 10.
It is intriguing to me that while there are hundreds of articles on many less notable people which are lacking in sources or references are in Wikipedia as standalone articles, why not a very popular person and budding star like Spoorthi who has been a household name for the past one year throughout South India and also among the Tamil Diaspora living around the world, have an article of her own in Wikipedia.Merinsan (talk) 13:25, 12 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
