Reliable sources

Hello Mccapra, you have suggested me to replace the reference of trekshitiz.com by those cited by Govt. agencies. I would like to bring to your notice that trekshitiz is a responsible and renowned govt. registered association in Mahrashtra. The members are dedicated historians and trekkers.About the website www.trekshitiz.com, in 2005 it received the best website award from Marathi Vikas Parishad for its contribution. Trekshitiz provides the information to trekkers, ways to reach the forts, fascinating places of interest in forts on the personal experiences of the members accomppanied by photographs Read more at: https://www.deccanherald.com/content/599557/his-mission-document-protect-forts.html. Most of the forts in India are in ruined condition for the lsat 100 years. The rulers which followed the King Shivaji and Peshwa rule have destroyed the forts and the acess to the forts. Very few people knew about them, so also very few literature is available in the govt records as well as in public domain. I mostly give the references to the history from the Govt. Gazetteer. Now there is a growing enthusuasm in the youth to discover the ruined forts and reconstruct the ruins. I will try to give references from Govt. records and publishings as far as possibe. User talk:Ccmarathe 1st May 2020

Hi @Ccmarathe: thanks for your message. My concern isn’t that the forts aren’t notable. I don’t know about each individual one, but I suppose that most or all of them are notable, whether they are in ruins or not. My concern is that you have put a lot of work into these articles, and that without better sourcing, you are going to face one deletion proposal after another when other editors look at the articles, see the lack of solid sourcing, and think the article shouldn’t be in the encyclopedia. That is frustrating and demoralising for you and it’s what I want to try and avoid. The best way of avoiding this is for you to create fewer articles, more slowly, with better sources. I can tell you that for the purposes of Wikipedia, www.trekshitiz.com absolutely is not a reliable source. If you use it as a starting point for article creation that’s fine, but you will need to find other references to back up what you say. For example I just took a look at ‘Kanhera Fort’, which you created an article about. I did a google book search and found this. All of these books are reliable sources. Some are only available in snippet view but take what you can from sources like those and include them as your references. Sources can be in Marathi rather than English, but they have to be reliable independent sources. If you keep creating articles sourced mainly or only to trekhitiz, I’m afraid you’re going to have an unpleasant time ahead. Let me know if you need my help. All the best Mccapra (talk) 04:50, 1 May 2020 (UTC)

Hi, Mccapra. there are two forts with the same name Kanheragad or Kanhera fort. One of them is in Nashik district which I have mentioned and given the reference from Nashik district gazetteer, the location on google map is https://goo.gl/maps/J81GxAnD1s3YSznZ7 . The other fort which you have searched and mentioned is in Jalgaon district with locationon google map https://goo.gl/maps/fSzJ2Po7cV5by7xN6. I know that there are confusions about names and my obective is to give reliable information. Hence forth I will try to provide references from Govt records. User talk:Ccmarathe 1st May 2020

Thank you. My main concern was possible copyvio but that seems to be well under control. I’m not going to review them all because I think it’s good practice to have different reviewers look at a run of articles like these, but if they’re still languishing in the queue in a few weeks’ time feel free to ping me and I’ll come back to them. Thanks to you and your students for so many good quality new articles. Mccapra (talk) 16:50, 1 May 2020 (UTC)

Moshe Jakobovits

Hello Mccapra, you have suggested me to add more (reliable) references and notes to this article Moshe Jakobovits. It's done. Thank you. Gklein2018 (talk) 09:40, 3 May 2020 (UTC)

Great thank you. There’s still a tag on the article pointing out that the article needs inline citations, so that readers can see how each substantive statement in the article is supported by sources. That takes time, but it is necessary. Do you know how to do this? Mccapra (talk) 09:51, 3 May 2020 (UTC)

Polesskoe Offensive

Hello Mccapra, I've noticed that you left a message on the recently created article by me- "Polesskoe Offensive". Regarding the so-called "description" of this offensive in a subsection of the Dnieper–Carpathian Offensive. As a matter of fact, the Polesskoe Offensive of the 2nd Belorussian Front in Eastern Poland is not described there at all- only the name of the offensive is mentioned but the text below actually describes the combat operations of the 3rd Ukrainian Front in southern Ukraine during the "Bereznegovatoye–Snigirevka Offensive", while text below there actually describes the events taking place during the "Proskurov–Chernovtsy Offensive". In this aspect the Dnieper-Carpathian Offensive article is messy and needs to be fixed. Thus, my article "Polesskoe Offensive" is correct and that's why you think that it "presents an account that is significantly different to them in in the other article." In this regard can the templates be removed, cause it ain't my fault that the editors of the Dnieper-Carpathian Offensive made factual mistakes in those areas. As I wrote during the creation of the article, I will provide details later on why this offensive is significant. In addition, I don't see why one source used multiple times is a problem, as long as it has references to archival material that can be backed up. Does a book mentioning the date when the battle began or how many troops fought are wrong? I also don't understand why you added at the top of my article in the template that "The examples and perspective in this article or section might have an extensive bias or disproportional coverage towards one or more specific regions." What "extensive bias" and "disproportional coverage towards one or more specific regions" in particular are you talking about? As you see, there are factual mistakes done by the editors of the Dnieper-Carpathian Offensive in the past, which is not my fault, while I, as mentioned before, will constantly update the article. Therefore, can these templates be removed? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tai3chinirv7ana (talkcontribs) 18:18, 4 May 2020 (UTC)

Hi thanks for your note. Would you please leave a note on the talk page of the other article to explain what you’ve said here? Don’t worry about the templates, they’re intended to direct editors with specialist knowledge of the subject to look at it and evaluate it. If the view of members of WikiProject Military History is that your article is correct then they’ll take the templates off. My role as reviewer isn’t to make a final judgement on the content but to point specialist editors to issues I see (on which I may well be wrong). Removing the templates and amending the other article are tasks for the editors on that WikiProject. Talk to them and I’m sure you’ll find them helpful. A. Kulandaivel Mudaliar is a famous person in South India. He is role model for many young businessmans.

A Hachette UK published book also describes Kulandaivel Mudaliyar as famous businessman Tirukodimadachengunrur (talk) 08:55, 5 May 2020 (UTC)

Hi thanks for your note. A biography of a businessman is required to meet the standards in WP:BASIC and WP:ANYBIO. I looked at the sources you provided and I’m afraid they don’t meet that standard. For example the fact that a person’s name is mentioned in passing once in a book by Hachette does not support notability. A profile on an online shopping site doesn’t help either. If this gets deleted don’t be discouraged, but try writing new articles that aren’t biographies of living or recently-living people, and aren’t about companies. Also it’s a good idea not to create new articles directly in mainspace. Instead, use |Articles for Creation where more experienced editors will help you work on a draft until it meets requirements and can be published. Mccapra (talk) 09:09, 5 May 2020 (UTC)

@Mccapra: Whether these reference is suitable for wikipedia standard https://www.forbesindia.com/article/bootstrapped-bosses/how-tk-chandiran-of-scm-group-companies-created-a-textile-empire/47793/1 OK this is a good source, yes, but as you can see it is a profile of the son, not the father. It definitely helps support the notability of the son, but it doesn't really support an article about the father.

Hi Mccapra, my page Colive has been considered for deletion, could you kindly let me now the reason for the deletion, I have created this article only based on the news details which I have collected online, I do not know the procedure to participate in the deletion discussion could you please advise if this page could stay if necessary changes are made. Thank you.Glittershield (talk) 03:15, 5 May 2020 (UTC)

Yes. The article you wrote is about a company, and articles about companies are required to meet the standards in WP:NCORP. The article contains nothing that would make the topic notable - lots of property developers build fully equipped living spaces, and the sources all appear to be based on company PR. That’s my opinion, and of course you are free to add your own views to the deletion debate explaining how the article meets the WP:NCORP standard.
To take part in the deletion discussion, click on ‘edit’, add *Keep on a new line and say how you think the article meets the standard. I am watching the deletion discussion page now so don’t worry about making a formatting mistake. If you do that I’ll fix it for you, or another editor will. The main point you have to argue is that your sources are reliable and independent (not PR) and demonstrate the notability of the topic.
If the article is deleted don’t be discouraged. If you’re a new editor it is a good idea not to create articles directly in mainspace. Instead use the article creation wizard to write a draft. The more experienced editors can help you get something ready for mainspace and advise you when it’s ready.
I see from your talk page that you’re having some difficulties in the articles you’re starting. As you’re new to Wikipedia there are three areas to definitely avoid when creating articles: 1. companies, 2. biographies of living people and 3. anything based on IMDb. These are the areas where Wikipedia gets filled with the most junk and where other editors are most likely to try and delete your work. Is there another area of interest you could work in? Mccapra (talk) 03:40, 5 May 2020 (UTC)

Thank you for taking the time to reply Mccapra, as you rightly said as a new Wikipedian I do face some difficulty with the article that I start, when creating Colive I went through all the news article and I have confusion as to how to identify a PR article so based on the source I got online, as the term coliving was very new to me I started to research and as this company was in most of the news coverage found it to be notable, I am really stuck as to how I could put forth my argument in the deletion discussion.thank youGlittershield (talk) 03:56, 5 May 2020 (UTC)

Hi Mccapra, I tried to put forth my opinion regarding notability of the page but looks like the team were not convinced with the links that I provided, maybe the formatting style of the page was not correct. I felt this subject was notable but may be wrong. As I always get confused with Pr articles before I created this page I also went through other Wikipedia pages of similar category to get little Ideas as to how pages for this category are created and saw that the news provided was similar to the one which I gave so reliable source is very confusing for me. So could you please give me suggestions as to what should be done, I just want to do genuine contribution for Wikipedia so should I just leave the page to get deleted. Please advice thanksGlittershield (talk) 08:15, 9 May 2020 (UTC)

Hi yes it seems that the view so far from other editors is that those sources are not good, because they are paid for by the company itself. I don’t think you can add anything else to the discussion. The format of the article isn’t the problem, the problem is that we don’t accept those sources as reliable. Deletion discussions run for seven days and at the end of that time if the consensus is to delete, that’s what will happen. Don’t take it too hard, everyone has had articles deleted before. For your next article try to find a subject that has good reliable sources eg. other Encyclopedias, dictionary of national biography, extensive news coverage in reliable magazines and newspapers. If you think of a few topics you would like to try I’m happy to do a search and tell you what I think of the sources I can find before you start writing. All the best Mccapra (talk) 08:42, 9 May 2020 (UTC)

Thanks, Mccapra you have been a great help for me, I had created an article on 4th May on Bigbasket and was speedy deleted as promotional but I got it restored now it is in my draft Draft: Bigbasket, will you be able to check my page and let me know if the page and resources provide are according to Wikipedia policy. I have Interest in reading about the company and giving information about them, now I think I should back up from creating articles on company and think about creating articles on a different subject. Thanks for the help Glittershield (talk) 06:08, 10 May 2020 (UTC)

Yes you have the same problem here. Lots of references but not to sources that are regarded as reliable and independent. Most companies aren’t notable enough to have Wikipedia articles. Fundraising from investors almost never supports notability, though it always generates some PR pieces. Seriously rather than spending more time working on these company articles I suggest you choose a different topic to edit. Mccapra (talk) 12:11, 10 May 2020 (UTC)

Quick Question about Page TerminusDB

I notice that you put a notability guidelines for products and services on the TerminusDB page. I'd be interested to learn your concerns. I have made some changes to the page today and wonder if they address any points you might have? I will continue to add external sources as I find them.

Everythingisnail (talk) 18:10, 6 May 2020 (UTC)

Hi yes when I looked at the page I saw that another had already tagged it for needing third party sources because too many of the citations are to PR pieces by the company itself. Looking through the sources provided, it seemed a bit thin to me, and anyway all the PR is very distracting. The best thing I can suggest is that you remove all the sources that are written by the firm and its spokespeople and we can see what's left. It's actually fewer sources, rather than more, which will make notability clearer. Thanks Mccapra (talk) 18:22, 6 May 2020 (UTC)

Hi! Ok - that is useful. Will look back in and see.

OtakuKart Draft

Hello, Thank you for the input, I have added all the valid references I could, could you please help me with what more references I should add? There are few website Wikipedia pages I have referred, they have way less citations than me, and remains published.

Which is why I want to know if i'm doing anything wrong, could you please guide me with what kind of citations I need to add more? it would help! Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sohelmoldhariya (talkcontribs) 18:38, 15 May 2020 (UTC)

Hi thanks for your message. Wikipedia only accepts certain kinds of source. Please see this note. Things like YouTube, social media and the article subject’s own site aren’t acceptable as sources I’m afraid. If there are no better sources than those you’ve found them I’m afraid the topic isn’t sufficiently notable to have an article on Wikipedia. Mccapra (talk) 18:42, 15 May 2020 (UTC)
Hello, I can add more sources, then it will be fine right? I have only added 1 source as my own. The others are independent sites. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sohelmoldhariya (talkcontribs) 19:02, 15 May 2020 (UTC)
Hi the draft as it is now is sourced to 1. Alexa (this does not show notability) 2. The subject’s own website 3. LinkedIn all of which are definitely unacceptable. The other three don’t look reliable to me. You need national newspapers or other similar sources. Just adding more poor sources won’t help I’m afraid. Mccapra (talk) 19:09, 15 May 2020 (UTC)
Thank you so much for clearing out the doubts! I'll improve the draft and add more sources. The anime motivation is quite reliable, as well as feedspot. I'll resubmit as I have more reliable references.

I added Linkedin and alexa because two of the site who I reviewed before making the wiki page had done that, and they were live. One of which didn't have any external reference, other than one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sohelmoldhariya (talkcontribs) 19:32, 15 May 2020 (UTC)

Just wanted to mention since I saw you tagged this for PROD, I agree that the article is pretty far from meeting notability guidelines, but there's almost certainly more coverage available given the amount of short mentions in major English newspapers available online. signed, Rosguill talk 02:59, 18 May 2020 (UTC)

Yes you’re right. I was looking only at English language sources. I’ve found Google is a bit one way. If you search in another script it often shows English results, but if you search in Latin script it pretty much never throws up results other scripts. Mccapra (talk) 03:48, 18 May 2020 (UTC)

Episode log for North American radio series "Loveline"--?

Pardon me for asking; but I really do not know-- Why would the episode log for the North American radio series "Loveline" have been deleted? Has the information been placed elsewhere or updated? I found the listing a useful reference guide for dating episodes I had recorded in the late 1990's & very early 2000's. Trying to date a lost show missing from the archive ----that I have. The series was broadcast & recorded by Westwood One. The show still circulates in some platforms & in collector's circles. It's not known if the parent company retained all the recordings

With all of Lovline's guests (musical & celebrity) & it's long run; the show will be remembered as a touchstone of the 90's & early 00's. Apart from the era's top bands & comics, the show was instrumental in solving a murder & the Heidi Fleiss episode was quite historic as I recall.

All else aside, I have no idea how this all works; I'm such a Luddite who has tape recordings of some of those shows & I am just mystified how/why anyone would take it upon themselves to remove any useful reference materials--? Thanks for your time!

Thank you~! Patsprings (talk) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Patsprings (talkcontribs) 05:10, 23 May 2020 (UTC)

Hi I’ve found the record of the deletion discussion here. As you can see I voted for deletion but I can’t now recall the articles as I look at so many each day. What I can suggest is the likely reason for deletion was that the lists were enormously detailed and about a series which may not itself have been notable. The consensus among editors is to have the minimum necessary number of articles per topic - so a single article for the whole show in most cases; if a show is very notable, then an article about each season. Long and detailed lists tend not to survive, especially if they contain few blue links and rely on a very small number of sources. Someone in the discussion has cited this as a rationale for deletion. As part of the deletion process you will have been contacted in your talk page to take part and explain why the article should be kept, but perhaps you were not around at the time. I imagine you put a great deal of work into these articles and it’s a shame to lose that, but we need to make sure that the content of the encyclopedia all maintains consistency in standards and apparently these articles didn’t. Ajf773 nominated the articles for deletion so may remember more about them. All the best Mccapra (talk) 06:43, 23 May 2020 (UTC)
Patsprings A further thought. You mention using the articles as a ‘log’ for your own reference. Wikipedia doesn’t hold articles for that sort of purpose but it may be possible (I don’t know) if you contact the closing administrator Jo-Jo Eumerus they may be able to let you have a copy that you can retain for your private use S long as it doesn’t go back onto Wikipedia. If what you’re saying is that the articles constitute a reference set that doesn’t exist anywhere else, then that is exactly why they can’t be on Wikipedia. Mccapra (talk) 06:49, 23 May 2020 (UTC)
FWIW, there is an archived copy over here. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 08:38, 23 May 2020 (UTC)

Rock Da Most

The prod you added to Rock Da Most was removed by a sockpuppet. Another user edited it afterward, and it wasn't immediately clear to me that it should be restored. So I'm telling you, rather than restoring it myself. Russ Woodroofe (talk) 23:06, 24 May 2020 (UTC)

Ok thanks very much. Is it allowed to restore a PROD in these circumstances? Mccapra (talk) 03:48, 25 May 2020 (UTC)
Per WP:DEPROD, "a tag may be restored if removed by a banned user or blocked user evading a block". The latter certainly holds. I would say something to this effect in the prod text. I'll also here ping @Mbdfar:, who made a few edits after the deprod by the sock — perhaps he would've also deprodded. Russ Woodroofe (talk) 10:14, 25 May 2020 (UTC)

Opinion needed

Hi there! I like to seek your opinion on the behaviour of superwifi over at this AFD. Does this warrant a trip to ANI? Thanks. --Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 09:26, 28 May 2020 (UTC)

Hi I've just looked at superwifi's edit history and while they're not exactly a single-purpose account, they're not far off. They have spent most of their time on Wikipedia since 2016 carefully curating this article and doing very little else, which is rather odd. Admins might well think that was worthy of looking into. On the other hand I've never brought a case to ANI or been involved in one so I may not be the best person to give you a view on this. You may want to ask an individual admin for an opinion first - I can suggest Rosguill as a good one to approach, or possibly Amakuru or WereSpielChequers whom I've met and seem pretty helpful. All the best Mccapra (talk) 11:12, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
Hi, thank you~! Will ask one the suggested admins for advice then. --Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 01:31, 29 May 2020 (UTC)

Willie Boy article

@Mccapra:Hello; Just want to touch bases with you regarding the article I started on Willie Boy. I fully understand, based on the status of the article as it appeared, why you felt it appropriate to revert the article back to a Redirect. I was only starting to develop the article. There is significant content to be covered that I do not believe would be suitable to bury in the article about the film Tell Them Willie Boy Is Here. The film is a semi-ficitional account of the Willie Boy story, whereas the article I am working on is actual account of a real person whose story had real historical and cultural implications.

I will leave the Willie Boy page as a redirect for now, and I will continue to develop the article off-line until it is complete. At that time I intend to remove the redirect, and again make a separate article specific to Willie Boy, and the impact his story had on local and Chemehuevi history. If you have any concerns about the matter, I would appreciate you let me know at this time so I can address them sooner rather than later.

Also, so that my intentions are not miscontrued, I am fine with you changing the page to a Redirect. I should have been developing the article in a sandbox or offline, rather than in a live environmnent. I would however like to make sure we are on the same page when it comes time to posting the final article. Thank you.OvertAnalyzer (talk) 23:31, 30 May 2020 (UTC)

Hi thanks for letting me know. No worries at all. If there are sources to support a bio article that’s great. All the best. Mccapra (talk) 02:00, 31 May 2020 (UTC)

Realtek Remote Control Protocol

@Mccapra: Hey, just wanted to let you know that I am restoring the RRCP protocol page. Don't let the Realtek name fool you... this remote management protocol is implemented in millions of home routers from Linksys, D-Link, Rosewill, Zyxel, TP-Link and even the large companies like Cisco implement RRCP on some of their devices. I will be expanding the article this week. DavidDelaune (talk) 15:30, 1 June 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for encouraging a newbie again!

@Mccapra: Thanks for dropping by to thank me for 50 articles, I didn't expect to do so many, and bravely edit more... Other users encouragement means so much when still learning the ropes. Kaybeesquared (talk) 21:04, 2 June 2020 (UTC)
