Not 'First Grade' but...

I believe the term 'First Grade' is used for first team appearances in the southern hemisphere, would you know what reserve team appearances are called, e.g. "Reserve Grade", "Second Grade", "A Grade", etc. Best Regards. DynamoDegsy (talk) 16:18, 1 January 2014 (UTC)

It would depend on the context but Reserve grade would be the most common term IMO. Mattlore (talk) 02:48, 4 January 2014 (UTC)

Question re: NZ Democratic Coalition page

Hi Matt - I'm interested to know if you have a reference in particular for the last paragraph in the History section on this page: New Zealand Democratic Coalition. Thanks for your help! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pooroldluser (talkcontribs) 22:03, 11 March 2014 (UTC) Hey, its from the Michael Laws biography that is referenced at the bottom of the page. Mattlore (talk) 08:42, 13 March 2014 (UTC)

Christopher Bishop (politician)

Hi there Thanks for the message. I was wondering if you would like to help be build and expand the article's notability before proposing it for deletion? I am quite new on Wikipedia so any assistance would be great! Regards, Wipkipkedia (talk) 05:31, 31 May 2014 (UTC)

The article Graeme Lowe has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Does not meet any notability that I can see.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Rugby union notability

Hi! I saw you edited a page for Jamie Burke awhile back, and I was hoping you might be interested in weighing in on the rugby union notability requirements that are quite different between men and women, and I believe no longer reflective of the game. Thank you! Val — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vgriffeth (talkcontribs) 00:23, 8 June 2014 (UTC)

Lebanon vs Fiji

Hey mate, you're the notability expert, would this upcoming test match be considered a notable one, in turn making the players that play in it notable? Josh the newcastle fan (talk) 09:19, 17 October 2014 (UTC)

Ha, thanks for the promotion. Off the top of my head I would say yes - IIRC Lebanon is a full member of the RLIF right? If it is then it should be considered a full test match. Mattlore (talk) 10:39, 17 October 2014 (UTC)

After having a look, yes it is a full member, so it should be right, thanks. Josh the newcastle fan (talk) 11:09, 17 October 2014 (UTC)

Editor of the Week

Editor of the Week
Your ongoing efforts to improve the encyclopedia have not gone unnoticed: You have been selected as Editor of the Week, for strong editing in the fields of rugby and New Zealand politics. Thank you for the great contributions! (courtesy of the Wikipedia Editor Retention Project)

User:Mkativerata submitted the following nomination for Editor of the Week:

I nominate Mattlore as Editor of the Week for over eight years of dedicated, prolific and high-quality editing principally in the fields of rugby league and New Zealand politics. I came across this 'Editor of the Week' page yesterday, and Mattlore immediately sprung to mind as the kind of unsung editor who deserves a formal 'thank you' from the Wikipedia community for his work. In over eight years, Mattlore has created (by my count) over 1,000 articles. 81% of his edits have been in the mainspace. His contribution to Wikipedia's coverage of rugby league has been immense. I can personally vouch for the quality of his contributions there. As you can see from a sample of his recent contributions, Mattlore not only creates a significant amount of content, but maintains a huge portfolio of articles, especially in areas that attract a lot of fanboys (rugby league) or that can be contentious (NZ politics). So far as I can tell, he's only ever received one barnstar for his work. I have no doubt he does not seek any more recognition, but he certainly deserves it.

You can copy the following text to your user page to display a user box proclaiming your selection as Editor of the Week:

{{subst:Wikipedia:WikiProject Editor Retention/Editor of the Week/Recipient user box}}

Thanks again for your efforts! Go Phightins! 13:27, 16 November 2014 (UTC)

And well deserved this is, too. Schwede66 17:43, 16 November 2014 (UTC)
Wow, thank you guys, and especially to User:Mkativerata for the very kind nomination. I will definitely have to display this on my user page alongside my barnstar. Like Mkativerata, I didn't know this award and project existed and it is nice to receive something positive instead of being involved in wearying debates on talk pages. External image

Hello there! First, congratulations for being an editor of the week! Anyway, I've a favor to ask. I just noticed that the Sophie Hunter page has an external image which is outdated. The photo from IMDB was from 2011 but there's a newly uploaded photo that is more suitable, taken just this month. This one http://www.imdb.com/media/rm1259206656/tt2084970. I hope you can help in changing it (or removing it altogether as I don't think it's necessary at all). Thank you very much! 41.203.187.145 (talk) 12:45, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

The subject article was PRODed by yourself - it has been restored as a contested PROD. You may wish to consider WP:AfD in the light of this result. Ronhjones  (Talk) 20:09, 11 December 2014 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for December 12

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Louis Robinson (rugby league), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Colonial Cup. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Response to Martin Kennedy (rugby league) edit

I am currently updating the infoboxes for the current Sydney Roosters squad. I didn't know that removing the reference on Martin's page was incorrect.
KC RoostersTalk 04:27, 22 December 2014 (UTC)

I am removing the footnotes to match the other Infoboxes (e.g. Mitchell Aubusson).
Infoboxes like Aubusson's have RLP (Rugby League Project) in the Source section instead of a reference link (Kennedy, Tuivasa-Sheck).
I don't believe that the pages of Martin Kennedy and Roger Tuivasa-Sheck or any other players should have a link(s) to the Rugby League Project website except in the Source section of infoboxes.
KC RoostersTalk 08:18, 22 December 2014 (UTC)
Ok, you have raised two points there. First, why do you prefer an in text "RLP" link, instead of a footnote? And second, why do you not think that the rugbyleagueproject.org website should be used as a reference, apart from in the infobox? What is wrong with that page? Mattlore (talk) 08:21, 22 December 2014 (UTC)
The majority of the current Roosters squad have a RLP link in the Source section and nowhere else. I think this should be the same for all rugby league players on Wikipedia. I believe that one link (not a reference) to the RLP website in the source section is needed and nowhere else.
KC RoostersTalk 08:35, 22 December 2014 (UTC)
Ok. But why? Why do you prefer a link instead of a footnote and why do you not believe the rugbyleagueproject.org website should be used as a reference, apart from in the infobox? Mattlore (talk) 08:53, 22 December 2014 (UTC)
I believe that having a link to RLP in the Infobox and nowhere else is appropriate and important because it can match the other players pages (all players pages should be this way in my opinion). Is there a way to have a link to RLP in the Infobox and a reference(s) to RLP on the same page?
KC RoostersTalk 02:54, 23 December 2014 (UTC)
I disagree. If the page calls for it, then there is no reason why rugbyleagueproject.org can't be used as a source in the text like any other. Also, I think that a footnote is preferable to a link marked "RLP" in the infobox, as this only means anything to other editors and not to the casual reader. There is no (technical) reason why both can't be present but it is a bit redundant. I still am not clear why you prefer the "RLP" link in the infobox to a footnote? Mattlore (talk) 03:03, 23 December 2014 (UTC)
For what it is worth, information in an infobox is supposed to be a summary of the most important aspects of an article. Hence, there shouldn't be anything in an infobox that isn't also in the text somewhere. Schwede66 03:39, 23 December 2014 (UTC)
To Matt, I prefer the RLP link in the Infobox for two reasons:
1. I think it looks better.
2. I agree 100% with Schwede66 and I believe he is correct.
KC RoostersTalk 03:55, 23 December 2014 (UTC)
I'm not exactly sure how Schwede's comment helps your position? If it is only for aesthetics, then I don't think that is a reason to prefer a link marked "RLP" there over a footnote. Mattlore (talk) 04:19, 23 December 2014 (UTC)
What should I do then?
KC RoostersTalk 04:27, 23 December 2014 (UTC)
Not repeatedly revert footnote links to RLP text links? Mattlore (talk) 19:23, 23 December 2014 (UTC)
