31 hours block[edit]

I think you were expecting me to post here. 31 hours, after dedicated hits like that, and aimed at me? I thought violations of WP:NPA would merit more than that. --LeyteWolfer 04:09, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid I wasn't expecting you. I don't view this vandal as attacking you personally. It seems to me to be just another college kid that vandalized everything as being "gay" indiscriminately. I think they just attacked you because of the warning you left on their talk page. And actually this is the first block for this IP, so the template you've added for being a repeated vandal really doesn't apply, at least not yet. I stand by my block, and I think it's fair. If that IP repeats, or another similar IP repeats in the near future, stronger blocks would be more appropriate. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 04:29, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You may be right. For some reason, I thought it was a second block. Too much patrolling for one night. Maybe I should take 31 hours off. :-S --LeyteWolfer 04:33, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Don't worry about it. Try not to let vandals get to you. Thanks for all your counter-vandalism efforts. They are appreciated. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 04:37, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

USS Benson fate[edit]

I'm no author or expert, but just finished watching the Military Channel on TV and a story about a deep dive to the wreck identified as the USS Benson. Just thought you might be interested and know whom to contact to verify this. Sincerely, Don Nickell —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.182.137.251 (talkcontribs) 14:27, 17 November 2007

I don't know of the program of which you speak, however I don't think this could be the USS Benson (DD-421). It was transferred to Taiwan in 1954, and in 1974 it was sold, and presumably scrapped. It is possible that you're referring to one of the Benson class destroyers instead? And if so which one? -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 18:34, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Where to report spammer?[edit]

Sorry, I don't know where to report this (relative newbie.) There's a newish account that seems to be created solely to push his/her armor. User:Epoque001 Does this go on Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism or somewhere else? Thanks! Jackollie (talk) 04:27, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome Jackollie, yes you had it right to post to WP:AIV. Also I think you did well to revert this user's first edit and give them a warning, however I think the warning under the template Template:spam1 might have been more appropriate. I have already deleted the article they created and placed an advertising warning on this user's talk page. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. If you post these sort of things to WP:AIV, typically they get resolved faster as the first available admin can handle them. Thanks again -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 04:35, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Attack[edit]

May I inform you that this User:Badgersaresexy is posting messages against you on articles.

He is posting this:

Please respond to this immediately.

Examples of pages he has "vadalised" with these statements are the newly featured 7 World Trade Center, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007 film) (I've reverted this already) and Wikipedia:WikiProject Ships.

Perhaps by the time you read this he has already attacked you and vandalised articles more.

Again I advise to you to respond to this immediately.

Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Felipe Aira (talkcontribs) 09:23, 21 November 2007

Strange edits by Smackbot[edit]

I just reverted a couple of edits by Smackbot, where it was messing up subtitles by replacing 'Operations==' with 'operations'. See diffs here and here. Could you please work out what the glitch is here, and try to fix it? Thanks in advance. Terraxos 20:35, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I too have just noticed this error in a bunch of US Navy ship articles such as [1]. I've been trying to cleanup these articles myself, however it seems I might be doing so for a while. Would it be possible to get SmackBot to correct this problem? -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 21:50, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please permanently block this user[edit]

The user with this name: 24.61.178.97 has continued to make inappropriate edits to wikipedia and he has been blocked temporarily around 4 or 5 times since November. I was wondering if it's about time to permanently block him from editing. Thanks. Chrismaster1 20:04, 13 December 2007

We have a policy regarding the blocking of disruptive users, which you can see at Wikipedia:Blocking policy. So permanently blocking this IP address (24.61.178.97 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log) isn't permitted under these circumstances. However, I will keep an eye on this user as continued abuse warrants longer and longer blocks. Thanks for your concern. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 01:41, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks alot! SOrry it took me so long to thank you for that. So far, he hasnt been making any edits according to the edit log but I think he might be using another IP address to get around the admins. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chrismaster1 (talkcontribs) 03:40, 11 July 2008

Notability of Paul Cless[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Paul Cless, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Paul Cless seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Paul Cless, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Monopoly card game.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Monopoly card game.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 22:50, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Request to Help out User 99.251.0.84[edit]

Hi Malo, I tried to explain to ip user 99.251.0.84 (talk page here: [2])that the reason his information about Bohemian Grove, in relation to the Alex Albrecht page, was not important was because of WP:NOT. I do not know if I was particularly good at explaining it though. Since you were involved with the Alex page and seem more experienced than I could you please explain it to him or her better than I have. I would be very grateful if you did. Priestess[edit]

You wisely reinstated the redirect of Priestess to Priest as there already was an article on the hard rock band. However, if there isn't enough material to make an article on female religious figures of this sort, I would like your thoughts on finding a more meaningful redirect. Priest is about Abrahamic religious leaders, and no priestesses that I'm aware of belong to any of those faiths. Wicca would be slightly better in that it's at least in the ballpark, but it's also a bad choice. I might turn to the Neopagan Wikiproject for an opinion, but I wanted to get yours since you redirected the page last.--otherlleft (talk) 00:23, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
