Image copyright problem with Image:Gado_Samkon.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Gado_Samkon.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me or ask for help at Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags. Thank you. -- Carnildo 13:24, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair enough; I was actually looking to delete the image just after uploading it because I felt the image would more likely violate copyright than not. In the future I will take more care before uploading anything. Thanks. Kybard 17:41, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Don't worry about it at all. Legally acceptable pictures of football players are pretty hard to come by, and I've come to think that they're not such a big deal anyway. When you really want one, magazine covers can be a good source, as there's a strong claim for their fair use. ×Meegs 18:38, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome[edit]

Hello Kybard. I just discovered tremendous expansion you did on Nick Collins (a really nice job, by the way), and realized that no one has welcomed you to Wikipedia. You've made quite a few edits already, but here are a few good links that are useful to newcomers and veterans alike:

One important thing is be sure to sign your name on talk and vote pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump, or ask me on my talk page. ×Meegs 17:01, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks a lot... but who's Tromboneguy0186? :) Kybard 18:39, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Obviously, that's my nickname for you ;) ×Meegs 18:41, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ohhh... it all makes sense now. Thanks for the welcome. I can see I'll make it here okay. Kybard 18:44, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Castle Bravo[edit]

I'm not sure I can be of much help - this was just a prediction, and I didn't do much to monitor it. I have the vague sense that there is an ever-nastier battle for power going on, by some elements deeply hostile to Wikipedia's mission - see the present conversation on User talk:Jimbo Wales for a taste of that - but who they are or what their perspective really is, I couldn't guess.

You should of course be following the progress of CISPA, which apparently is being used for similar backdoor censorship tactics. Whether Wikipedia will be on board for that at all, not at all clear - I'd been hoping one of the insiders would have started organizing opposition by now, but I haven't heard of that. SOPA suggestions[edit]

Hi, I saw your inquiry about SOPA and the "blackout", over on Wnt's talk page. Just a suggestion for people to talk to: Have you contacted User:Wehwalt? As a bona-fide lawyer, he had an interesting legal perspective. The opposition to politicization statement of User:Scott_MacDonald is extremely good reading. And while I don't agree with the ideological framework which User:Bdell555 used, his "agenda" blog post raised some important concerns. -- Seth Finkelstein (talk) 11:10, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
