  • Got it! Thanks for sending it. I just told BellSouth the last-known IP in question, the date and time along with the time zone and that was about it. The more info they can get, the better. My first response was automated, but the second was not. The ranges are 74.249, 70.146 and 68.220. I think the ranges are from 0 to 16 and not 0 to 255. So, blocking the 74.249 range would be a matter of blocking 74.249.0.0/16. I hope that shuts him down over at Simple. Every edit I've made since this past summer over there have been over him. I apparently didn't press enter 2 nights ago when I wrote this.... but : Thanks for the response, all 3 ranges are blocked, it sadly can't stop him from SUL'ing but we have a bug in to fix that and the stewards are on top of locking his accounts. Hey hulk, that's fine, don't worry about the sockpuppet accusation, if there isn't any clear evidence it was you then there is nothing that you need to worry about. Even if it was you it wasn't a horrible violation and I doubt it would even extend the current block. Exception to abuse criteria for report?

I've just blocked an IP for continued vandalism at Johnson County, Kansas (in the Kansas City area), Talk:Johnson County, Kansas, and my userpage — it keeps making comments about the residents of Johnson County being religious bigots and Nazis. It would have been blocked more times, but I semiprotected the county article for a good while to deter it. It's been blocked after receiving suitable warnings for abusive edits, but it doesn't fit the criteria because my protection only enabled it to vandalise enough times to be blocked once. The IP is registered to the Kansas state government, so I wonder if we might make an exception here and report it? I understand that the state government doesn't want its employees vandalising Wikipedia anyway, but they really might want to know if one of their employees is publicly attacking the people of the most populous county in the state. After reverting the addition of copyrighted content, I expanded the article using secondary reliable sources, so I don't think the filmmaker's website will have other useful information that can be added to the article. I note that you wrote in your edit summary on the talk page, "permission received for http://www.icepeople.com/filmmakers.html (text only)". Since the copyright holder contacted you, would you ask them if they are willing to release any photos of Anne Aghion under the Creative Commons license? I'm thinking about pictures such as this one. Help user cluelessness please!

Hi James

Sorry to bother you out of the blue like this - I chose you pseudo-randomly from the terrifying abuse report page, on the grounds that if you operate in that rarified atmosphere you will know what to do with my far more day-to-day query: I am not sure who among my existing contacts and friends knows this stuff.

Here's the story - an IP address does very minor vandalism, silly joke on a serious page (which gets up my nose particularly badly for reasons with which I will not bore you) and it gets reverted but they're not warned. I feel that they need warning - their edit history of, er, 3 edits has a 100% hit rate of silliness, so maybe it's time someone let them know it's not unnoticed and not welcome. So fine, I warn them, but I have this other theory that adding the whois template helps - I think it can give disruptive users a shock to realize that they're a touch less anonymous than they think. However the whois result off the user page is confusing and I don't really know what to put, so what is currently there is a bit of a dog's breakfast to be honest. I'm also very aware that quite often when I leave a whois on a page, someone more clued up than me (it's not difficult to be!) comes along and tidies it up, but I don't know what algorithm they apply to do this so I can't replicate it. If you wouldn't mind please having the quickest of quick looks here:

- I'd be very grateful for your advice - firstly on how to sort out the current messy thing I have there and secondly on what is a better general approach to getting the correct stuff there to begin with. Sorry for the delay in the response, I was in NYC for some interviews and a meeting. Sometimes the whois info from the toolserver link can be a little confusing because the official databases do not always spill out the most information on their API. I personally like [1] which usually gives a more detailed response. Looking at that you will see the real issue: Windstream Communications is the actual ISP BUT the IP itself has been assigned to their customer (see customer info) Pathology Medical Services. How you have it up at the moment isn't wrong, I would probably want both up their at some level. If you only want one you want to put Windstream Communications since they are the ones who own the actual IP and they could change who they give it to (for example if the medical company goes out of business. Windstream is also the company we would contact with an abuse report (and let them contact the company). James (T|C) 19:22, 23 March 2010 (UTC)

Seem to keep missing you. I've filled out most of what seems important on Wikipedia:Abuse reports/66.4.233.x. Wasn't sure if the report was still valid, since it was accepted back in '09, although there are edits and blocks as recent as this March. I also found 9 more IPs that were not in the original report. I think I am approaching the point of contacting the ISP, but I'm not sure when/how/what to say, if anything. Vandal IP

As one of the members of Abuse Response, I figured I would go to you. I got a message from a user Asking What could be done about This IP. Since they are not currently active, I don't think I can do AIV, but since other IPs in this range have been blocked (1,2,3,4) I think it may be worth reporting to the ISP or just outright blocking. Hi Funnyfarm, thanks for the heads up. I'm not sure it's really there to start a report on (though if you are interested anyone can do it and I'll be happy to help you out) but it is definitely something to watch. Prefixes in Hebrew

With all due respect and thanks for your attempt to clean up the history of these pages, you seem to have (inadvertently?) moved all the content on Hebrew suffixes back into the Prefixes article, so that article now discusses prefixes and then includes a duplicate of the Suffixes in Hebrew article. Obviously there's no reason for the suffix information to be included at Prefixes in Hebrew, but I didn't want to risk messing anything up further by just deleting the suffix info there. You are correct, I knew that the history would transfer over but forgot to re-remove the suffix section (it is now done). Sadly we not copy the history over to the Suffix article but we can leave a link there on the talk page to direct them to the history for copyright reasons.
