Sri Lankan film and actor articles[edit]

Hi Gihan! I have an interest in Sri Lanka because I was engaged to a Sri Lankan girl and learnt a bit of Sinhala. Kohomada muchan! To respond to your comments in your reply at the Wikipedia Teahouse, Wikipedia is not a place to promote a subject (see the questions and answers on the Teahouse about business and personal articles, in particular the responses about a subject being notable), but a place for those who are already interested in a subject to find reliable, cited information about it. You and I are special, interesting people, but that alone doesn't merit us an article on Wikipedia. The same with Sri Lankan films.

Just because a film has been made or is in production doesn't automatically merit it an article on Wikipedia. What makes it noteworthy to an international audience, i.e. outside of Sri Lanka? If a particular film was critically acclaimed, or was a spectacular failure, that is a good reason for an article. There should be sufficient general interest. I've had a few articles deleted myself, so I know how frustrating it can be when you think a subject is worthy of an article but others disagree.

I notice you also have an account on Sinhala Wikipedia, but you've never made any edits there. I don't know how the guidelines are different across different versions of Wikipedia, but I imagine Sri Lankan films would have more interest there. It's a shame Sinhala Wikipedia is so small. For every article there, there are 400 articles on English Wikipedia.

I commend your passion. Wikipedia needs more people with your passion. However, I see no evidence so far that most of the articles you started warrant inclusion on Wikipedia. I've also seen some of your articles where other people have put a banner on it questioning its notability, so I'm not the only who's noticed. I'd like to work with you to increase the quality of your contributions. --Danielklein (talk) 07:06, 12 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
