Shank's mare

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Shank's mare, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Help, edit disputes

Hi, you left the initial welcome message on my talkpage offering assistance way back when, so I figured I'd ask you. What should be done when an anonymous user repeatedly (but infrequently) reverts edits and is completely silent on talk pages? It's not traditional vandalism, as I think he believes his edits are justified, but I think he's just failing to read my comments. It's also not 3RR as it's over a period of days or weeks. So is failing to participate in discussion a form of vandalism? Is there a user talk template appropriate for this sort of thing? Most of the instructions on conflict resolution assume both sides are communicating; what should be done when the other party is being silent? I see that you are one of the qualified administrators who can copy code from a deleted article back to my userspace. Would you be so kind as to provide me with the data for Cruise West? Unfortunately I don't log in very frequently and completely missed the discussion about deleting this article. Had I been aware I would have offered relevant changes at that time and hopefully could have avoided the deletion. PR experiment

Dear GeeJo, I'm writing in hopes of enlisting your aid in a four-month experiment at Peer Review (PR). The success of the experiment will depend on finding at least 10 editors willing to review at least one article a week through the end of October 2008. The experiment will employ a streamlined review process designed to insure that every nominator who seeks a review gets one and that reviewers do not waste time doing long reviews for nominators who do not respond to an initial short review.

The way it works is this: (1) Choose any article at Peer Review that lacks a review. Wikipedia:Peer reviews by date, especially the backlog list, is still a good place to find such articles. (2) Provide a short partial review based on your initial observations and wait to see if the nominator responds. Examples of short reviews can be found at Wikipedia:Peer review/Foreign relations of India/archive1 and Wikipedia:Peer review/Ed Stelmach/archive1. (3) If the nominator does not respond, the review is done. (4) If the nominator responds, continue the review as you see fit.

The experiment will require no noticeable administration. However, if you plan to participate, it would be helpful if you posted a brief note to Wikipedia talk:Peer review to that effect.

At the end of October, we can see how the experiment turned out and whether this process or some modification of it could sustain Peer Review permanently with minimal backlogs. If you can help, that would be great. If not, that's perfectly OK. We are all tremendously busy with a lot of different projects.

I have chosen to write to you in part because you've done peer reviews from the backlog during the past four months. deleting images

Hi. Last autumn, I'd put up this image: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:ADAM_lymphatic.jpg

thinking that it was US Gov.

but 'Adam' (the source for med images) is not US Gov, so I never actually used it on an encyclopedia page. I'd like to delete it from wiki images. How do I do that? Or do I have to be an admin to delete? Thanks. Kenmcl2 (talk) 03:24, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

What's the deal with Ford on flickr?

I was doing my daily browsing of interesting media licensed exclusively as "cc-by" and "cc-by-sa" on Flickr, when I stumbled upon what I thought was a goldmine. Hundreds of great publicity shots from Ford Motor Company. Well, as it turns out, only the more recent posts to Flickr are cc-by, all the rest are cc-by-nc. Then I noticed that you made arrangements with Ford for the use of one of the cc-by-nc's in our article on the Ford Flex. What's the deal? Does OTRS have on file the permission for us to use their cc-by-nc content as cc-by? Or are there alternative arrangements? If you want to see what I've uploaded from their rent cc-by releases, I've created a new category on Commons: commons:Category:Taken by Ford Motor Company. Let me know your thoughts on this, Lar and I were discussing this earlier (when we thought everything was cc-by) and were pretty excited. Hello. We would like to use the image http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Bilateral_exophthalmos.jpg in one of our upcoming medical publications. I understand that it is in the public domain; however, we still have to have a credit line for the figure, and Wikipedia is not appropriate. Can you let me know where, if anywhere, the figure was originally published, and if you know who the original photographer is? Thank you for your help.

I swung by to say thanks heaps for your work in populating this Category! - You (and all who may have helped) are legends! :-) Thanks! - To answer the implied question above too - I was asking someone about how to create categories etc. (not really being very confident about this one) - and they suggested that I make this one a 'hidden' cat. - which you do just by adding a bit to the category page. I was thinking about starting a sort of 'video / multi-media portal' of some sort in due course, and would plan to showcase / link to various video bits and bobs there, but I'm not sure that having the cat. visible is great for the articles? - thoughts most welcome though, and thanks once again for your awesome work in populating the cat.! cheers, Privatemusings (talk) 06:09, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

Re: Anticipation

It is a good point you are making here. When I created Joe McKinney's page, I included all that infomation i.e. his 'escape' to America to flee the curse of the advert - there is proof of it on the internet. McKinney was not happy about it, and while he was impressed with the page, the pro-Guinness advert part was another matter altogether. At one point, he said it was negative (check the history page).

I believe McKinney is trying to show that there is more to him than dancing around a settling pint of Guinness - and I believe there is - which is why he disagrees with certain extracts which refer to the commercial.Jemmabond (talk) 11:28, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

Moves

Howdy! A quick comment on the recent moves of advertising articles to more generic names - while the more unusual titles (such as Good Doctor) are likely only used for a single advert, some have been used for several different advertising campaigns, each of which could potentially have an article. Off the top of my head, I know that the title Surfer has been used for a Guinness ad, a Cadbury ad, a Pioneer ad, and an ad for the Volkswagen Polo, all within the UK and all of which won several awards. A brief search online also shows that it's been used for a Pepsi advertising campaign in Germany, a Lipitor campaign in the U.S., a Renault campaign in France, etc. The same type of thing is true for Dreamer, and a few of the other names moved. In addition, the character Michael Power appears in dozens of individual adverts, and one feature film - the new title is wholly inaccurate. Still, if you want the moving process to be complete, you may want to shift Pretty (Nike), Gorilla (Cadbury), Evolution (Dove), Grrr (Honda), and Sea (Smirnoff). Thanks. I think there are probably some more adverts out there that I haven't caught yet. I put the Guinness adverts into a new category Category:Guinness advertising which helps with the sorting of the articles. I think you are right in your concerns that if there are other articles created with the same advertising campaign name there will need to be a rethink of the strategy - but the naming convention tends to go for the more obvious name first, and only go for more subtle names when the occasions arises. So we go for Great Expectations and disambiguate later, rather than starting with Great Expectations (novel) or even Great Expectations (novel by Charles Dickens). Reassuringly Expensive

I can see what you are doing, and I think it's a great idea. I have created a quick cut and paste page to hold an overview of the campaign, and where information on the other adverts can be placed until they are ready to be broken out into stand alone articles. Talk:Good Doctor (advertisement)/GA1

I have started a GA review of Talk:Good Doctor (advert). I feel that the article is clearly written with some good references and complies with most aspects of the GA criteria. The image is not cause for a fail but it is poor quality. I picked up some degree of uncertainty about dates in the Background section, and it might be worth looking into that to make it clearer who was involved when and doing what. The section is fairly dense, and time could be spent perhaps opening it up a bit. I have added sub-sections in line with the excellent NoitulovE that you worked on. I'm now looking at what information is available on the advert and if the article is broad in coverage. On the whole I am impressed. SilkTork *^YES! 17:12, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

I really appreciate it. You are probably wondering why I ask. Well, I have spent my weekend on a graph found here: User:Ikip/AfD on average day. I am interested in what type of user gets their page deleted, etc....November 15 is just a day pulled out of a hat by another user.
