German ship categories[edit]

Hi, I noticed you've been splitting the Category:Ships built in Germany down into subcats. We have Category:Ships built in East Germany, to which I added a brief outline of its scope. Shouldn't we also have Category:Ships built in West Germany covering all ships built in West Germany between 1949 and 1990? What do you think? Mjroots (talk) 09:07, 20 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think that's really necessary - there were only that much ships built in East Germany, maybe could just add a note to look in Category:Ships built in Wismar and probably Category:Ships built in Rostock, too. --FJS15 (talk) 09:14, 20 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Edit summaries[edit]

Hi, no {{uw-editsummary}} this time, but would you please get into the habit of leaving an edit summary each time you edit. Many vandals think that by not leaving an edit summary they will be more likely to get away with their vandalism. The opposite is true, as edits without summaries are likely to get greater scrutiny. This also means that good faith editing without an edit summary may be suspected to be vandalism. You can set your preferences to remind you when you attempt to save without leaving an edit summary. Thanks for letting me know! Since I am basically doing minor maintenance stuff, I didn't use that feature. But I will try to think of it in the future! --FJS15 (talk) 12:42, 3 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the response to my request. It soon becomes second nature. Mjroots (talk) 16:37, 3 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I can imagine ;-) --FJS15 (talk) 16:43, 3 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed you moved this; I've moved it back, as articles should have titles in English (per WP:TITLE). Also, moving pages should be discussed, to avoid un-necessary disruption. I've opened a discussion here, if you wish to comment. Xyl 54 (talk) 23:56, 3 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for replying; I've responded over there. Xyl 54 (talk) 23:30, 4 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That looks like a job well done! (now all we have to do is wait for the storm of complaint from whoever we've upset - sorry, I'm being too cynical!). You asked about links; the links should all be redirected now, but if you want to check, try the "Special:WhatLinksHere/ (title)" facility. There's probably hundreds, but most of them (if not all) will be on the U-boat pages (So the other option is to work through the List of U-boats). I'm sure it could be done by a bot, but I don't know how to arrange that; it's an Admin thing. Anyway, good luck in what you are doing! Xyl 54 (talk) 11:47, 6 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! And the same to you. I am a bit confused because the feature shows a lot of redirects but if I check the articles there are none. I assume it has to do with the U-boats template and the database. I will check in the next couple of days and see what happens! --FJS15 (talk) 12:31, 6 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ship templates[edit]

I've noticed you changing various wikilinks to use {{ship}} and its variants. Whilst there is nothing 'wrong with doing this, there is no real need to do so. By all means change the links to use the templates as part of other editing, but just changing them for the sake of it seem to me to be a waste of time, as the result looks exactly the same to the reader. Mjroots (talk) 18:24, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I came across those templates when checking redirects etc. I haven't gone looking for them per se. But once I am at it, why not? --FJS15 (talk) 18:34, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

WP Germany Template[edit]

I noticed you been tagging quite a number of articles for WPGermany. That is a task that has been neglected recently and your efforts are appreciated. Should you use a cut&paste cheatsheet for your templates, I would recommend to use {{WikiProject Germany|class=|importance=}} as that makes it easier for someone else to do the quality and importance rating afterwards. Thanks. BTW please watch out for the construct {{WikiProjectBannerShell project tags will need to be placed within that as parameters when it exists. This is usually done on articles that are in the scope of a large number of projects. Happy editing. Agathoclea (talk) 08:26, 18 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I shall consider this in the future. --FJS15 (talk) 18:07, 18 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sachgebietes listed at Redirects for discussion[edit]

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Sachgebietes. Since you had some involvement with the Sachgebietes redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion (if you have not already done so). FJS15 (talk) 04:53, 19 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
