February 2018[edit]

Information icon Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. We welcome and appreciate your contributions, but it appears you have written or added to an article about yourself. Creating an autobiography is strongly discouraged – see our guideline on writing autobiographies. If you create such an article, it may be deleted. If what you have done in life is genuinely notable and can be verified according to our policy for articles about living people, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later (see Wikipedians with articles). If you wish to add to an existing article about yourself, please propose the changes on its talk page. Please understand that this is an encyclopedia and not a personal web space or social networking site. If your article has already been deleted, please see: Why was my page deleted?, and if you feel the deletion was an error, please discuss it with the deleting administrator. Thank you. Disclose any connection[edit]

Information icon

Hello Dean.Connor. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, such as the edit you made to Draft:Dean A. Connor, and that you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially egregious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to Black hat SEO.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists, and if it does not, from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Dean.Connor. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Dean.Connor|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, please do not edit further until you answer this message. --Worldbruce (talk) 02:26, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there,

Thank you for the quick response- I understand your concerns and appreciate your expertise. I fully agree with your requirements for “transparency and disclosure.” I would really appreciate your guidance on the best way to get this page published, so that it is compliant with Wikipedia terms. I am an intern who works for Sun Life and I am simply trying to add general information about the CEO- Dean Connor that links to Sun Life’s already existing Wikipedia page. Therefore, my goal is to create updated material that connects to our corporate media page.

To clarify, this Wikipedia account was set up by the communications team and I am the only Employee authorized to use it I am more than happy to change my username so that it reflects me, the intern, rather than the user name set up by the communications department “Dean.Connor”

Furthermore, my goal is to create a page similar to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_I._McKay, the CEO of RBC. His profile is connected to the RBC Wikipedia page and is easily accessible to the public. Sun Life Financial is also a Canadian Financial institution and as stated above, I am just trying to expand on the current Wikipedia page for Sun Life and provide more information to the public.

Thank you for all the help and I appreciate your time. Looking forward to your guidance/expertise on how to get this Wikipedia page published.

Hi there,

I was just checking in to see if you have everything you need for this article. Thank you!

Your username[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I saw that you edited or created Draft:Dean A. Connor, and I noticed that your username, "Dean.Connor", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Foobar Museum of Art". However, you are permitted to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people, and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, or website, regardless of your username. Please also read our paid editing policy and our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please request a change of username, by completing this form, choosing a username that complies with our username policy. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 13:43, 19 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Lee,

Thank you for the quick response, I appreciate your expertise. If I change my username, how will this impact the publishing of this Wikipedia page? Looking forward to hearing back from you. Thank you!

Dean.Connor - It won't. Not changing it could cause a block or ban however; just to be careful. Wikipedia is quite strict with it's username policy. Also, always remember to type ~~~~ after every talk page message. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 14:31, 20 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Draft:Dean A. Connor, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Username Change?[edit]

Hi, can i verify that this is the same intern who created the drafts and article? If so, it is still wise to change your username. Nosebagbear (talk) 12:23, 5 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, this is the same intern who created the drafts and article! I would like to go ahead and change my username to reflect me - chantel.martins.
