Angela Beesley

Thanks for making me look it up :) - Angela Beesley isn't a co-founder of Wikipedia, as I understand it- I do know she's an important woman on the board. Her article says she co-founded Wikia, an umbrella company that includes Wookiepedia. That said, I do believe there's some controversy over Wikipedia's beginnings. It's been a common belief that it was co-founded by Mr. Wales and Larry Sanger, but he quit Wikipedia and since then there have been accusations in the media that Mr. Wales has edited his article to play down Mr. Sanger's role. CanadianCaesar Et tu, Brute? 04:43, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

  • Well, Sanger used to have perhaps assisted Jimmy Wales- again, Mr. Sanger quit, and since then the extent of his role has been disputed. Angela Beesley, on the board, would have helped run Wikipedia. CanadianCaesar Et tu, Brute? 05:19, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

Imposter.

Ahh, I forgot to say something. Yesterday, somebody impersonated User:Naconkantari. This ID was User:Naconkantari/. Could you block the user that I mentioned indefinite? Thanks for explaining about Angela Beesley. *~Daniel~* 05:36, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

  • If you're talking to me, that user doesn't exist. I went to his userpage, but I didn't have the option of blocking him, or checking his contributions. CanadianCaesar Et tu, Brute? 05:37, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
I mean USer:Naconkantari/ is very similar to User:Naconkantari. May be you misunderstood. Also, He didn't contribute yet. *~Daniel~* 05:41, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
It shouldn't matter if he hasn't contributed yet. If you look to your left, you'll see a "User contributions" link. A user with no edits will have such a link- it just leads to an empty list. Administrators see a "Block user" link right under "User contributions" and above "E-mail this user". This userpage, however, has none of these features. More importantly, special:listusers doesn't have him. CanadianCaesar Et tu, Brute? 05:45, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
Ahh, Ok. *~Daniel~* 05:46, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

Good evening, Daniel5127. Thank you for your support at my Request for Adminship, which succeeded with a final tally of (67/0/0)! Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have suggestions or requests - either of an admin nature or otherwise! :)

My RfA thanks

Hello Daniel5127/Archive III, and thank you for your strong support at my Request for Adminship, which succeeded with an overwhelming final count of (105/2/0). I was very pleased with the outpouring of kind words from the community that has now entrusted me with these tools, from the classroom, the lesson in human psychology and the international resource known as Wikipedia. The Free Encyclopedia. Please feel free to leave me plenty of requests, monitor my actions (through the admin desk on my userpage) and, if you find yourself in the mood, listen to some of what I do in real life. In any case, keep up the great work and have a fabulous day. Grandmasterka 05:41, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

TB2

Well, it's a peice of software, it's not a computer typing away on another comuter. It connects to the "tubes of the internets" to Wikipedia and gets clogged up with vandalism so it sends a round lottery ball thru to revert the vandalism. Tawkerbot4, Tawkerbot2, same thing, same code same everything (except TB2 runs in Toronto and TB4 runs in Vancouver as of this moment). (AntiVandalBot runs somewhere in Cydeville wherever the heck that is). Do you have any experience w/ programming, TB2 is a pretty complex program, it's not quite an overnight job :o -- Tawker 02:17, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

Just wanted to say thanks for the revert. Gee, two in 5 minutes, although the second one was probably just an honest mistake. Anyway, thanks again! tmopkisn tlka 07:39, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

I saw you used my replace list, just wanted to make sure you had the latest one

Note that the replace list is actually updated daily - sometimes many times a day - to fix problems and add new words. These problems can be important.

Please check for a new version each and every time you use AWB. Add a bookmark to the top of your favorites. That will ensure you always have the best, most complete, bug-free version. Or you can get the same exact version I'm using at that second by using Subversion. You get to see how I work, change, and develop the list, edit by edit, since it shows you the differences between versions. All old versions of the list can be shown so you can see the progress the list has made. If you need any help setting this up, it's actually really easy, I'd be glad to help you out.

Download the latest releases all the time from the project page. Please update right now. Several problems have been found and fixed, and many many words have now been added.
Current version as of this message: 0.0.4.9 --mboverload@

What does this say

I know this maybe a bit uncivil BUT I need you to read this template at least 5 times and maybe even more. This is the template: {{talkarchive}} So, instead I don't have to watch your contributions and revert your edits every time you decide to comment on an archive page and not on a real dicussion page. Is there a reason for this? I just spent some of my evening reverting last night of all pages you added to a archive page, not an actul dicussion page. Again why? It clearly says on the template do not edit the content of this page. Kindly respond on my talkpage. Treebark (talk) 13:54, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

Nonsense

On the BI talk page - I think I was involved in an edit conflict. I did not intend to delete all of that. Instead, I was trying to add a

to separate comments, and add a comment. I have never seen this happen, and do not know how it did, except that I believe Diana (Zuckerman) was trying to add the same time I was. Thanks for reverting it!67.35.126.14 01:29, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

ahh, Sorry for misunderstanding. I didn't necessarily consider your edit is vandalism, but I thought you just deleted everything. But Thanks for message on article, you were going to separate the comments in article's discussion page. Anyways, I'm so sorry for misunderstanding your edit as vandalism. *~Daniel~* 01:31, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

No that is quite alright. I tried to add a comment again, and the same thing happened! It showed up as an 'edit comment' then deleted the whole section. I think I reverted it back to yours but I am not sure. I don't know what is going on. Would you check it please?
The last thing I want to do is to blank this page (as I have also been hard at work on it). I have never had this happen!67.35.126.14 01:36, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
Sure, I'll check on talk page. *~Daniel~* 01:38, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

Please do revert to your last page (and explain). I see somehow I screwed it up, and I don't know what happened. I am going to have to check into this. Thank you very much!!!67.35.126.14 01:40, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
because article's talk page is too long. That's the reason it doesn't work when you put your comment on article's discussion page. Therefore, article's size is limited like 81kilobites. So, I'll archive the talk page. So it will be new one. *~Daniel~* 01:42, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
I created archive to put all comments on Archived 3, so you can put your comment on article's talk page right now. No problem. If you need me for help, I'll help you. *~Daniel~* 01:45, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

THANK YOU!! For a 17 year old 'kid' you know your way around Wikipedia pretty well! I explained to Dr. Zuckerman, by email, what had happened, as well. She also was wondering what was going on. 67.35.126.14 02:07, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi (aeropagitica), As I read your messages, It's good to put messages together because It's one of the good etiquette in conversation with others. Thanks for giving me informations that mention the Etiquettes on user's Talk page. Ahh, I decided to make my e-mail in Wikipedia. So, Could you explain to me how can I make my mail in Wikipedia? Thanks. *~Daniel~* 00:29, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

Hello! If you go to 'my preferences', the first tab has a section for you to enter your e-mail address, if you want to. Enter it there, save and you should receive an e-mail asking you to confirm that the address is valid. When you do this, you will then be able to receive e-mails from other Wikipedians. See Help:Email_confirmation for details. Regards,  (aeropagitica)  (talk)  06:55, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

Re:Linux

Umm... I think you're a it confused here. Firefox is an internet browser like "Internet Explorer" (Made by Microsoft) or Opera (here). However, Linux (which is a combination of the name of the creator, Linus, with the UNIX operating system) is a full fledged operating system like Microsoft Windows or Mac OS X. The Linux Penguin is indeed the mascot and is widespread and associated with Linux based products. The nice thing about Linux is that it supports a wide range of processors, and best of all, it is completely free. It also procides better stability than Windows and is much more suited for developers. However, if you're not too technical of a user, there really isn't too much of a reason to switch to Linux as most Windows programs don't run on it very well and a lot of hardware may also not be supported (such as certain wireless card, webcams and all creative sound cards). Read Linux for more information. Cheers. Sasquatch t|c 05:05, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

Edit reversion

I didn't add anything that wasn't important to the talk page and that erasing shouldn't have been made either. People discuss thing about the show on talk pages all the time. just look at the talk page about Judge Judy, WWE, and the undertaker. Me voicing my opinion about someone on the show when it's relevant to the topic is not nonsense. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.31.100.211 (talkcontribs)

Vandal Report

A page entitled "Toraka" has become subject of rampant vandalism. Could you please lock that page? Thanks in advance. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sub Zero 4774 (talkcontribs)

Thanks for report. But Sorry I can not lock the page because I'm not admin. If I'm admin I would check, then lock the page that you've mentioned. In this case, you could report on Page-Protection. If you post request on Request for page protection, then admin will either protect or semi-protect it. Anyways, I would suggest you to report this on Request for protection. *~Daniel~* 07:01, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

How do I do that? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tundra X (talkcontribs)

Sorry but where am I supposed to mention it on that page? I listed it under Alerts and User Reported, but I'm not sure if that's where I'm supposed to put it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tundra X (talkcontribs)

Yes, you are. WP:AIV#Alerts is where you should put it. The protection page Daniel is talking about is WP:RPP. Regards, 72.134.40.173 14:20, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

"Mention which article he has vandalized"

I noticed in your edit summaries, you put "Mention which article he has vandalized" Instead (It will save you some time; so you make less edits) put {{Template:Test2-n|article the user/IP vandalized}}. Same goes for Test-n, Test1-n, Test3-n, and Test4-n. Let me know if this is still not clear. Kind regards, Carmelapple 14:23, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

How to Make Dotted Underlines

On the article on Cayenne pepper you wrote something that appeared as a dotted underline:

{{H:title|Source of information ⇒ personal experience| sensation of '''severe burning'''.}}

A few questions.

  • Where did you learn this? Is there a page on Wikipedia that would explain this and other formatting tricks? I already know the obvious (link, italics, bold, strikethrough, table, nowiki) but have never seen this before.
  • What is crucial in making this formatting? The brackets {{}}? the H:title? And what does the ⇒ do?

And just FYI, if you found the cayenne pepper dangerous, be very careful with the habanero or Scotts bonent! Interlingua talk email 14:25, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

Forgive me for late response. No, I didn't edit '''{{H:title|Source of information ⇒ personal experience|sensation of '''severe burning'''.}}. I was reverting vandalism on Cayenne pepper, and actually it was blank vandal. So, I reverted it. I didn't make article like this. No, You're misunderstanding. I didn't format the article. I didn't do anything like those. *~Daniel~* 04:07, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

August Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: To-Do List
The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
  2. The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
  3. Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
  4. Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
  5. Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
  6. There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.

Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

I'm having trouble understanding exactly what you mean by your question. Are you asking about when it is appropriate to use wikilinks for dates such as 22 August 1985, or when it is appropriate to add links to the articles on those given dates, or something else?

OrphanBot

You asked: "Hi, Yamla, I really need to ask you about OrphanBot. I noticed that there are many messages that were sent by OrphanBot. Sometimes, User complains about OrphanBot that OrphanBot keeps sending messages. Does OrphanBot's message represents for tagging of image? Or Perhaps Images are unsourced? Just Curious. Please, reply in my talk page."

I believe what the orphanbot complains about is when a copyrighted image is uploaded and then is not used in an article. This can happen by one of three methods. First, the uploader never added the image to an article in the first place. Second, another editor removed the image. Third, the image was never provided with a detailed fair-use rationale. We aren't permitted to use copyrighted images without a detailed hand-written fair-use rationale. Eventually, the image will be removed from the page by another bot (fairusebot?) and then the orphanbot will notify the user. Anyway, the end result is that most of the time, the reason the image is orphaned is because the uploader failed in some way. But that's not always the case. Sometimes, it's a fine image but someone replaced the image with a better one. I hope this answers your questions. --Yamla 04:22, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
